Honestly, one of the only places I've been post-start of this pandemic where service and food has actually improved, let alone survived. Renovations have finished and Selah Tea looks awesome again. They've built a huge community table that greets people when they walk in the door. You can tell by the advertising specifically for the table that they're really proud of it. The menu has been revamped with more a la carte options for those so inclined. The tea hasn't changed, they've still got the same wide variety. The serving sizes are small for the prices. For example: home fries cost two dollars. For that price, you get maybe a measuring cup's worth of food. The eggs taste like something I'd get at Mcdonalds. The lentil curry is by far the best thing Selah Tea offers. I just wish they made it more often and were more careful about cross-contamination. They leave the lids open on their soups in the back and it's not uncommon for chunks of meat from one soup to splash into what's supposed to be a vegetarian soup. Staff is friendly but still very slow, which seems to be the standard here. If you're in a hurry, you're gonna be waiting five to ten minutes to get a to-go drink during off-hours, so be aware of that. Wifi is gated behind a password. If you have issues talking to people, you might have to settle with a sporadic Colby signal. I wish they would just post the password on the wall. They've stopped offering sweet n' low (pink sweetener) for their drinks, now they only carry two of the standard three artificial sweeteners (splenda and whatever the green sweetener is). Guess which one I use? That's right, the one they stopped supplying. There's also only three sets of salt and pepper shakers for the whole restaurant to use. This is really weird thing to decide to be frugal about. It's not uncommon for me to have to hunt around the entire restaurant for a few minutes, just to get some pepper for my food. I grumble a lot, but I've been a regular at this place since it opened. There's lots of little problems but they nail enough of the big things, like customer service, the tea and the cozy hipster environment, that I'm willing to overlook the negatives. read more

Definitely not a place you'd expect to find in Waterville. They have a wide selection of teas, from maté to boba, a cup of which is about $3.50 and is served in an infuser with a cute three-part hourglass- counting down the brewing time for light, medium, or darkly brewed tea. Their coffee (especially the cappuccino) is the best in town, and their mini desserts are perfect- they often run deals and coupons for free desserts. They have great lunch options (think turkey-brie-cranberry panini and salad) but the portions are too large to eat in one sitting. Definitely a great place to spend a day studying, as their free internet is faster than any you could find on the Colby College Campus. Although the food and drinks can be slightly pricey, the quality is supreme and they have great gifts- from matcha whisks to super cute mugs- and you could not find a better place to spend a rainy afternoon with work to do. read more

As someone who depends on the wifi of local businesses, Selah's internet is the fastest that I've been able to find in the Waterville area. They have nice herbal teas and smoothies delivered by friendly staff. (I would suggest the Lavender Tea and the Energy Smoothie.) However, their food is either hit or miss. They have a small number of vegan/vegetarian options. I've gotten their veggie burger and 2 occasions within two weeks of each other; one was great and the other was cold. They serve their sandwiches with a bland, old tasting pasta salad (which doesn't add anything to the dish and shouldn't even be plated in the first place). Their food is overpriced for the quality that you receive. I'm often wary of ordering food and usually stick with the smoothies instead of eating an actual meal. The service can be slow. If you're eating with a group of more than 3, be prepared to wait a while on your food. This is more of a brunch space where you would grab tea with a couple of friends or drink a smoothie while working on your laptop. If somewhere else made better food with comparable wifi speeds, I would make the switch to them. Selah is a place you really want to like, but doesn't have anything that puts it over the top. read more

I am the middle aged parent of a college student, so there's probably no point in this review. The cafe is a pleasant place to pass some time with a beverage. I'm not a tea drinker and the expresso machine was broken on the day of our visit. The coffee was lukewarm and unimpressive. The cafe is open and the atmosphere is relaxing. I stopped into the café on Tuesday afternoon to have lunch. I really wanted a salad from Whole Foods; however the nearest one was back in Portland and I was headed north to Bangor. This is located in the town of Waterville which made it a nice little afternoon stop. I was easily able to find parking less than a block from the café. It is a rather large restaurant that they tried to make feel more like a café by adding a few couches and comfortable seats with tables to the rear of the restaurant. The atmosphere was quite relaxing, as I did not feel rushed to eat and run. It is similar to a Panera Bread; you walk up to the counter, order, and they will bring the food to your table once it is ready. There are a large number of teas on the menu, categorized by how caffeinated they are. I thought this was neat. The menu had a variety of interesting salads, sandwiches, and flat breads. The soup of the day was squash bisque or curried chicken noodle. Many of the many items were "curried." I was hoping to have a bowl of soup with my salad; however, both soup options had a good amount of cream in them. I would have enjoyed a lower calorie, lower fat soup option on the menu. I ordered a curried chicken salad and was very pleased with my choice. It had a healthy serving of chicken salad on top of greens that included raisins, apples, and just the right amount of walnuts. I was quite full when I finished my salad and pleased with my lunch. For $11, I had a nice salad and a large iced Americano. If business ever brings me back to Waterville, I would definitely stop back into the Selah Tea Café. I would probably opt for a cup of tea over a coffee. Poor service. I hate writing this review but it's time. I've been coming here for a few years and I've issues every once in a while with my order but nothing too bad. Usually because a specific worker would just forget sides, etc. They last four orders have been terrible. The first order, the girl just completely forgot to tell the cooks. Which meant that I had to wait 30 minutes extra. She never said sorry or offered a water or anything...just like oh well. The two orders after that were to go and both times side items were left off or creamer was left out of coffee. This last order, I was told that it would be ready 15-20 mins. I actually arrived 25 mins after ordering, after waiting for 20 mins finally someone asked if I needed something. They then told me it was going to be a while for an item. So basically I was there almost an hour waiting on food. And it wasn't that busy! And when I got my food it wasn't all together, I had to ask for specific items and go through every part to make sure it was there. On another note, about a year ago someone called from the restaurant to tell me that someone had used my phone number to order giftcards but the bank card (not mine) declined. It was all really odd. When I asked if the manager could call me as she said she didn't have much details, she said he would but I never received a call.
