My diagnosis was chronic plantar fasciitis with scar tissue. As a marathon runner and an active…read moreperson throughout my life, I was told that physical therapy would help break up the scar tissue during my initial interview. However, I found it strange that the questions asked were so Vague. I was informed that this was due to insurance restrictions, and there was no questioning about my previous activity or exercise history after eight weeks of seated exercises with a band. I was horrified to be at the facility for only 15 minutes, 25 if you include the 10 min bike ride to "warmup" . When I spoke up and said that I wasn't feeling any progress, it almost seemed like they were offended. From there, I went from seated exercises to single-leg plyo jumps on a Bosu ball, explosive ploys and single leg work. It seemed like I went from 0 to 100 overnight. Going from seated work instantly to single leg work seemed like I was missing a major progression step of being on 2 feet 1st. It's in a semi private setting, eyes are not on you at all times ensuring good from. I felt some achiness, but I thought, "Well, I haven't done anything in a while. Perhaps this is why the achiness continued to get worse until I finally stopped going." I ended up back at the orthopedic clinic with a diagnosis of bursitis in four different places. After being sedentary with plantar fasciitis for six months, the protocol should not have been single-leg work that promoted a lack of stability and explosive movements. Many things were skipped before this step. Now, I not only continue to have chronic plantar fasciitis but also bursitis. The insurance company was charged over $7000. I missed many days of work, and I'm still at square one. I would not suggest this facility to athletes or anyone with an exercise history. Their knowledge of stepping out of the box as far as protocols is significantly lacking.
