the birthday celebrations continue - this time with my ride or die girls! thankful for the moms in the group that made time to come - i hope i was entertaining(?) enough to be a nice little breather out of your hectic schedules?! i felt like i was transported to little homey greek oikos when i stepped into the restaurant - it was bubbling with conversations tho i have to admit, it does get a little loud as our evening went on. anywho, i was early - as i sometimes am - and i was seated right away. ofc, obligatory bday wishes were exchanged. our server was very intuitive as she knew i wanted to wait for the rest of my girls to arrive - she did bring water as i was dying of thirst by the time i got to the restaurant. my girls slowly piled in, and our server (javiera) came by to explain the menu and made a few recommendations on food/drinks. both of my drinks were features and not on reg menu - thank you for recommendations, javiera - i loved both of them. there was a little miscommunication at the bar with my 2nd drink - things got busy and my drink was quite delayed but other than that, smooth sailings with the drinks. there is a tasting menu (aka we'll cook for you) but we decided against it and went a la carte. we started with tirokafteri and lakerda. the tirokafteri, with the house made pita, was the perfect way to start our greek adventure. i DEVOURED the pita along with the dip - there is a little bit of a kick with the dish but nothing too crazy. the lakerda was bit fishier than we all expected - i am a seafood/fish person so it didn't bother me but a warning to those that are sensitive! i had to get another order of pita in before the mains came - this is how much i LOVED the pita here. we had the kalamari, mussels and the pasta feature. we all loved the latter two - not that the kalamari was bad in anyway. i have a thing for sour/pickled relish so the fennel cucumber salad that came with the kalamari was perfect for me. the mussels were fresh (even tho it's not rly mussel season), and the green olive focaccia (despite the fact that i dislike olives) was soft and doughy, the best vessel to soak up the spicy loukaniko butter! the pasta feature was a mint pesto rigatoni - the mint added a freshness that cuts thru the richness of the cheese sauce that the past came in. that and i just love pesto lol finally, the desserts - i ordered the mahalepi and javiera recommended the carob cheesecake, which we also got. thank you for the cute little candle on the cheesecake - it is not your usual cheesecake as you don't really taste too much of the cheese. while it tastes sorta like chocolate, it's actually carob - a very interesting dish. the mahalepi was light and delicate so both the dishes complimented each other well. a little loud for girls' night as we were shouting half the time but loved the vibe anyway! read more

Finally getting a chance to post my review of this place. Tucked in on Penticton Street with Hastings within view. Transit accessable near an elementary school which we parked along. The non alcoholic Aegean Kipos was refreshing, slightly too sweet for me but it keeps you cool on a warm day. Service was attentive & extremely casual in a good way. Felt like friends cooking for you and talking to you. I enjoyed their non meat options from their menu. Very easy to eat light here. Albeit the scallop Crudo was quite minimal. Sliced so thin, I wondered if there was more than 2 full scallops. All in all we quite enjoyed this place. A nice option if you're in the area. read more

(3.5/5) Swung by Selene this time for brunch - I had been seeing their brunch items all over Instagram and was deeply curious as everything looked delicious! The interior is still as gorgeous as ever and luckily it was a nice day so sitting by the window felt really nice. Our server came by and briefly took our order. My boyfriend and I settled on sharing 3 dishes. The server recommended the pain perdu (french toast) and mentioned there were limited orders left. I immediately had to hop on it and was glad I did not pass on it. The toast is soft, warm, and lightly sweet. Paired with the honey cream and berries was a heavenly treat. I did however, find it a bit soft for my liking. Next, the cilbir was a fun dipping dish with standout flavours and textures. I personally found this dish looked much better than it tasted. I wish there was a bit more flavour apart from the overwhelming amount of tzatziki, maybe in the chilli crunch? Finally, the BLT sandwich featured bread from a local bakery (the name has escaped me...) and pork belly with wild honey glazed on top. This sandwich was good and satisfying, but definitely required some deconstruction for easy consumption. Came for a late dinner for my birthday as we were in the area and have been wanting to try after someone told us it is her favourite Greek restaurant in town. The decor was very nice and hip. We started with the banaganoush and the server recommended the mussels as it is their signature dish and we also ordered the Arctic char. The off the shell mussels indeed had complex flavours as it is cooked with pork broth. It was very tasty and we wiped up all the sauce with the focaccia bread that it came with. The artic char with dill sauce and pea tip was refreshing with the tangy dill sauce. The skin was crispy too. We finished with the Tahini ice cream sandwich which was a hint of salt. We came on a Saturday for a birthday dinner. I got the ottoman-opoeia which was delicious. I liked the lemon and the spiced plum sharbat. Very well balanced Scallop crudo ($25) - the strawberry vinaigrette was an interesting addition. I actually enjoyed the scallops and they tasted quite fresh Dungeness crab pide ($22) - there was actually quite a bit of Dungeness crab on this dish. There was really no point in the cheese as it didn't add any flavour to the dish. I liked the crispy bread. It did feel like it was missing and extra texture component to tie it together Calamari (24) don't get this dish. Calamari wasn't crunchy at all. Was almost a bit chewy. Mussels and octopus ($34) - flavourful dish. I liked the addition of the fennel for the crunch. The focaccia was TOO BURNT. they placed the burnt side on the bottom so you can't see it in the picture but it was so burnt I couldn't finish it. The mussels and octopus were well cooked. Decent dish except for the over charred focaccia (literally black on the bottom) Lamb chops ($45) - the lamb chops were well cooked. The main issue was that the sauce tasted a bit like sweet charsiu (BBQ sauce) sauce. I also felt like the lamb flavour was over masked by the sauce Bavette steak ($52) - forgettable dish. Nothing stood out about it at all. Wouldn't get it again Halibut ($45) - loved the brown butter sauce in this. Spinach added a nice freshness to it. Very basic but very well done dish. Halibut was well cooked Fried donut balls topped with ice cream - these donuts were made with rice and very interesting. Nothing I've had anywhere else before. It tasted like a rice pudding that's been fried which was exactly what it was. Decent cinnamon clove flavour. Not bad at all Service was decent. They came and checked up on us often and made sure everything was fine. They gave us free ice cream for the birthday girl. The ambiance is perfect for date night as it's really dark. At times it can get a bit loud. The food came at a steady pace. Overall I thought the food was okay but nothing to really write home about. Went here for a birthday meal with friends and got their tasting menu. The place is beautiful and the energy/vibe inside was fun and energetic yet also romantic. I had to call in advance to book the table for a larger group and it seemed like the place was booked the whole night. Food wise, it was very good. The only thing was that it seemed rather bread heavy. 3 of the starting dishes had bread or naan and it was rather filling. There also wasn't any other variety of carbs. By the time the meat came out at the end, many of us were already rather full. The rack of lamb was a stand out for me personally and I would return for it. Overall it was a good dining experience and the service was attentive and friendly. I would likely return but would not do the tasting menu again. read more

What an experience! Finally tried this much hyped place and they did live up to the hype. We tried several things, like the famous their famous humus and bread, calamari, lamb popsicles, pork chops, steak tenderloin, and of course..dessert. Everything was superior. The pork chop was so succulent and tender, the sauce that came with it took it to another level. The steak tenderloin was so tender and juicy. Lamb popsicles were on point and marinated well. Calamari was ordinary, but still Good. Desert also amazing. Service quick and attentive. My only Issue for the 4 stars is quantity. For the prices they are charging, I'm sure they can increase the qty a bit more and make the bread free. Lots of free parking around. Place is clean and well organized. A few days ago, I visited this place and it turned out to be a really satisfying dining experience from start to finish. The food felt thoughtfully prepared and full of character, with flavors that were balanced rather than overpowering. The grilled fish was beautifully cooked, tender on the inside with a nice char on the outside, and paired perfectly with the herb and garlic topping.
