Wagyu beef carpaccio and crab salad
    Mae H.

Came in Saturday night at 8pm with no reservation and were seated right away. We started out with the wagyu carpaccio and crab salad. I felt the crab salad needed a bit of salt or extra flavor and was just ok. The wagyu carpaccio was nothing special as well. My highlights were the entrees. The bone marrow bowl was perfect and the slow braised meat fell off the bone and was soo succulent. The rice crisped up on the hot bowl also. The prawns in the linguine were cooked perfectly and the sauce didn't overpower the flavor of the crab. 2 appetizers and 2 entrees were the perfect amount of food for 3 people to share. I would definitely come back for the entrees!

Food * beef carpaccio had good flavors but over dressed and slightly too sweet for me. * roasted cauliflower was good, recommend- wish the pickled onions and pomegranate seeds were a bit brighter/acidic. *wagyu bolognese - straight forward and good. * Manila clams with white wine, cream, and linguini. Good but nothing out of the ordinary. * bone marrow bowl with braised short rib in stone bowl- I can do without the bone marrow- too fatty. Bowl alone had generous amount of fats. The short rib was super tender and yummy. Love the crispy rice, sweet potatoes and mushrooms in it. Overall good, but food nothing stood out. Service- the manager Connie was amazing! She connected with my children, and was attentive. The rest of the staff were on top of filling water and removing plates. They give you option of getting food to come as kitchen makes or wait for everything to come out at once. Ambiance- cool, simple dark (choice of paint color) but enough light for talking and eating. We went on Friday night and 9:15pm and live band was setting up. Great place for a date, friends or group or family. Parking- there is lot. Location- first floor of a strip mall, next to a salon. Recommend- yes, if you're looking for some change of pace foods- Asian fusion Italian :)

This is our second time here . Came in to Celebrated my son's advance bday by having a TOMAHAWK for dinner . We were. Family of 5 , we ordered few more items from the menu, like the lobster and prawn pasta, arugula salad , broccolini , crème garlic prawns and carpaccio and a couple of drinks from the bar. Cozy and nice and moderate music . The price ... as always very modest . Servings were decent in portions . The staff from host to servers were so friendly and attentive . Shoutout to Ethan, Emily , Jenny and Kebrca (spelled not sure) , great evening guys . Thank you

Came back again after 8 months and the menu has been upgraded to an iPad experience. Some dishes have changed name but remains to be the same dishes. Below are some dishes we ordered: Roast Cauliflower BFT Fried Chicken "Bei Fung Tong Tomahawk: shaved foie gras pâté + grilled shishito Crab + Prawn Linguini The Tomahawk could use some coarse salt. Other dishes tasted just as they were 8 months ago

Fantastic ambiance, the decor and vibe was like an upscale Yaletown spot but in downtown Richmond. We had the truffle fries, crispy and flavorful. The bone marrow was seasoned nicely and served with focaccia. The prawn and scallop risotto was done well, the scallops were perfectly cooked and a healthy portion. Their cocktails and drinks were excellent, the toast old fashioned was served with an excellent whiskey ice cube and very well done. Service was attentive and friendly. We will be back again.

The food was okay. Only giving it a 4 star because our waiter was amazing. Went above and beyond to serve our table. Disappointed that they only had 1 dessert which was a cheesecake. Most restaurants would have 2-3 choices. The atmosphere was very lively.

Love the Chinese fusion Italian flavor! Everything was beyond my expectations including the service by a young server named Ethan! Came here on Friday night and we had reservations. Though the rule was 1.5 hr seating time, we got to stay for 2.5 hrs. The virgin ceasar was spicy but really good! My fave dish was the linguini with clams. Must try!! The only thing I didn't care for was there were no windows and kind of dark. They had a live band ready to perform just when we were about leave. Will be back for sure!!

Lamb shank, Manila clams + linguine, risotto with scallops

Food is alright, reasonable price for quality and quantity but for a place that talks about leading with ingredients, their ingredients did not stand out to me. We ordered two drinks: fluffy white and peach flamingo. Drinks were fine, but the lychee for the fluffy white was too strong for the more delicate elderflower to come through. We ordered the Manila clams + linguine, lamb shank, and mushroom risotto with scallops and a prawn. Risotto was delicious, truffle and mushroom flavours were good and texture of the risotto was solid without being mushy. Lamb shank wasn't bad, though the broccolini on the side was fibrous. Clams were alright, again the quality of ingredients wasn't what carried the dish, but the flavours were good and there was a good amount of pasta. Finished off with the cheesecake which was crumbly, not my favourite. Overall food was alright, decent value for a place like this. Vibes are kind of funny, it feels like it should be quite intimate and then the Property Brothers are playing on a huge flatscreen next to your table... waitstaff are all very kind and attentive!

The atmostphere does not match the food. It looks like a warehouse but with higher end food. In the middle on the tables sits a giant metal egg holding culterly. It's quite tacky and doesn't match the vibe. I got the risotto with crab and scallops. The scallops were done perfectly, but the risotto lacked any flavor. Scallops normally don't have much flavor itself, so it should be paired with something with more flavor - citrusy, buttery, garlicky, salty, etc. Server rarely came around to fill up the water. Big free parking lot around this mall.

Whenever I'm in the mood for a cute little date night out, I always head to Vancouver because Richmond doesn't have cute little date night restaurants like Vancouver but this one definitely makes the list~ It's a very sexy, moody, intimate vibe but they have space for large groups too What we ordered: butter garlic prawns bone marrow duck crown manila clam linguine foie gras + steak beach under lavender haze toast old fashioned The flavours are quite sophisticated and definitely a western/Chinese fusion. The garlic butter prawns really blew me away and cannot be missed. It comes with their house bread which is also amazing. I'm also a big fan of the foie groi + steak. As for the drinks, they were okay. I heard from a friend that the old fashioned comes with a chicken bite on the side and I confirmed this on the menu but they often run out. The service was amazing, everyone was super nice. They also hold live music nights on Fridays so I'll definitely have to check that out. There's not a lot of places in Richmond that do what Hestia does as well as they do.

With an intel from IG and upon reading the review of a trusted person, i told myself i had to partake of the soft opening of Hestia in Richmond Bc. This is another example of looks can be deceiving. Very unassuming from the outside, but once you step inside, it's like being transferred to a dining place in yaletown with high ceilings. Nice dim lighting with soft table lights. Big bar with seating area. For the highlights, we ordered the Bone Marrow, crab and prawn linguine, and the steak and foie gras with mashed and brocollini. The bone marrow was amazing. Perfectly seasoned and torched. The gelatinous texture of the marrow paired perfectly with the garlic focaccia. 4 big generous portions sprinkled with carmelized onions. Next up is the prawn and seafood linguine. Generous portions of real crab and big prawns adorned this dish and decorated with flakes of grano Padano cheese. Portions were more than enough for one. Pasta was al dente. It's so fresh that you can taste the sea right off the dish. Lastly was the steak with foie gras. Perfectly seared and cooked to order. 2 portions of Foie gras complimented the dish well. Veggies were cooked well and meat was succulent and juicy. Melt in your mouth goodness. They had no dessert menu being a soft opening only....but they had an extensive drinks and cocktail selections. Overall, we had a very good experience. Service was omni present. Everyone wanted to please and serve and took the time to explain things. Got a 20% discount too coz if the soft opening. You can genuinely feel that they take customer feedback and experience seriously. Cheers! Happy eating!

This place was so delicious! The Hestia lager was so tasty--highly recommend! The starters--prawns were so big and juicy and the gochujang wings were sooo good! The bone marrow bowl was to die for! The rice with the steak and marrow so delicious! You can't go wrong with anything here. Service and ambiance was great!

We decided to try something new in Richmond for a casual fine dining experience and came to Hestia Kitchen Bar. Overall the space was nice and the service was good. We had the truffle burger which was very delicious and juicy. The cooked it to medium which was a nice touch. Also had the fried chicken which was amazing. Super crunchy in the outside and tender in the middle. I would be coming back just for this dish. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of their menu which is a bit more 'inspired' than the standard fare you'll find at similar places.

First off, the bread isn't as good as usual. It was fine but nothing great and barely Luke warm. We always get asked if we want more bread but not on our visit here - a first. Our server was so busy and there was no supporting staff except to deliver the food from the kitchen. We didn't get asked if we wanted more bread, took 20 minutes to get our order in, our calamari appetizer never arrived and just our mains but by the time we could find our server we were halfway through our mains despite that I am a slow eater. The server did apologize and said he would bring the calamari and take it off the bill, which was nice. Calamari came in 10 minutes but portion looked small. When the server came by next he mentioned that it came quickly because he stole the order from another table - what?!? Am glad the calamari was free because it didn't taste great and portion was small. My boyfriend wasn't asked if he wanted another beer until we were at the end of the meal and when I asked for a water refill it took another 10 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to eat and not because I was slow eater but due to the slow service. We were looking forward to our Billy Miner pie but the server never mentioned it and as it took so long to find him we gave up on dessert and opted to go for dessert somewhere else. This must be a franchise location and not sure why it's so busy as service and food easily the worst Keg location I've ever been to and I have to most locations in the Lower Mainland plus Kelowna. Will definitely stick to the Vancouver and Burnaby locations from here on out. The bigger disappointment was that I wrote to the Keg to provide feedback and never heard back. Sad to see one of the best chain restaurants to go downhill.

We emailed the restaurant after to discuss the experience and had no response. We ordered appies and drinks to start. The Caesar salad is amazing and highly recommend. The crab cakes and calamari were also delicious. 2 people got prime rib, one steak, and one filet mignon. Plus a bunch of sides, like the brussels, Mac and cheese, and broccoli gratin. The broccoli gratin was dried burnt broccoli with a sprinkle of parm. The Mac and cheese was bland. The food came out except for 1 prime rib. After 10 minutes, the server came to apologize and inform us that they were out of prime rib. He offered the prime rib sandwich on rush, which we appreciated. It came out quickly enough but was not good. There was too much fat to meat ration. We would have sent back a few things but the table beside us sent back their food multiple times and we were ready to go. Not sure what happened but it was an off day. I would not recommend this location!

However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. You'll find some classic dishes but less heavy on the salt and grease, perfect for myself and the party I was dining with. I ordered the 5 course meal which was a fantastic deal for $65. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. If I do not wish to drive out for fancy food, I know I can rely on the food at Shoestring café. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser! I would love to return soon.

Steamed mussels and soufflé were so addictive and heavenly. The mussels were savoury and buttery and the soufflé was airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. They were very good! Hits and misses for the mains. While the pasta and sauce were great, we wish the seafood were panfried or something to give it a bit more texture. The duck was well done but not tough (we generally like medium rare) though we were confused by why the skin was served down as crispy skin is always a plus for duck breasts. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes but theirs was not overly heavy and buttery, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. This reminds me of Asian western food but they were tasty and the ambience was cozy - a local neighbourhood spot.

We arrived in time for our reservation but there was no one at the front. We waited for a few minutes for someone to notice we were there, and were immediately seated. It's a nice looking place - very classic whites, and feels like a fine dining restaurant. We decided to try the following: - Beef Carpaccio: Good. Maybe a bit light on the meat, as it was buried by the arugula and pickled shallots, so seemed unbalanced, but overall tasted great - Seafood Linguini: Mixed. Linguini was good. Scallops were really good and tender. Mussels were tiny. Red snapper was tough and dry. As a dish, it was OK, but could be better. Seafood is seasonal, so I'd think they would be better off rotating what seafood is used. - LuLu Island: OK. Same issue as the linguine. Prawns were fine. Mussels tiny. Red snapper wasn't enjoyable. Broth had flavour, but didn't come out very hot. Service was pleasant but slow. I only saw one server and one busser, so not enough staff to handle 6 or 7 tables they had.
