Now the store is actually the OG store for the WatchGuys in DTLA, so if you live in the South Bay or if you think DTLA is a bit scary to carry your precious items, then this location in Lawndale is perfect with free street parking. Just a great experience with Altieri! I came in tonight with three heirloom rings...one of which I was trying to sell complete, while the other two I was only willing to sell the gold and wanted to keep the diamonds for sentimental value. The staff was super friendly and made sure I was comfortable while I waited to be assisted...although I literally waited 3 minutes until the owner Sonny offered to help me himself to make the process faster. Sonny sat me down in a private room, was very knowledgeable and explained everything and all the steps in clear detail. He weighed my rings for the gold, made me a very reasonable offer and I was given cash out the door with a receipt for the sale. As for the heirloom ring, he didn't push me into a direction I was uncomfortable with, and considering the age and quality of the ring, he was honest about the value and even showed me where the inclusions were and why the price would be set the way it was. Then best of all he let me know my options. Although he could have pushed me to sell the diamonds to him straight out, he was straight with me and told me I should try other avenues first. I appreciated how honest he was in the process and he let me know that my best option before trying to sell to him would be to atleast try and list it on ebay. AND he even advised me on the right way to describe the ring when selling it! You would think my visit would have just ended there since he wasn't going to be making money off my ebay sale, but he was kind enough to go out of his way and write down the size of the diamonds and how to best word the cut and clarity on ebay. I NEVER would I have thought a jewelry buyer would truly have the seller's best interest at heart but Altieri's definitely does. The issue lies within the ownership of this establishment. Below I'll describe the specifics of my visit to this store. I was trying to make a deal for 2 Rolex Submariners. Since the sales person didn't have authority to make a deal, he called for his boss. This is where things took a turn. The boss who didn't identify himself as much more than just the boss, was very eager to let me know I wasn't welcome. He turned down by gesture to shake his hand and greet him; according to him he didn't want to touch someone like me. Then he followed by telling me the price is what the (insert curse word) the price is, and that I should leave. Not surprisingly I was left in shock along with my friend and the sales person. At this point understandably I let my mind be known and left the establishment. For your information I will let you know that I am a dark toned and dark haired man. This was exactly the type of place I was looking for when a family member asked me to help them sell an expensive/fine watch- an F.P. Journe. I did some research and found an identical watch on eBay but I knew in order to sell it there, it would take some time and the right buyer since the used watch no longer had a box or papers. I called a few local pawn shops in the I.E. and I quickly figured out I needed to go to L.A. Before making the hour and a half drive, I did a search online and on Yelp and found Altieri. I'm really glad I did! It was an easy process- I sent an email describing the watch and got a request to send pictures. I did, and they emailed back saying they were interested in buying. We made arrangements for the next day. Showed up and they examined the watch, made an offer (close to what we wanted), then they got it authenticated at a place nearby, and gave us the money. I decided to stop in here from the other favorable Yelp reviews. I had a nice and welcoming experience with Ryan who offered me a price of $300 for a 24K gold ring. I was offered $330 from another business up Beverly Drive, which I didn't mention, and when I asked Ryan if he could increase the value, he said $325 was the best he could do. I decided to accept the offer (since I didn't like the attitude at the other business) figuring it was the best I could get at the time. Yes he gave me a lower offer at first, but I was able to get him up to the price of the other place, so it wasn't too bad. Actually Ryan's calming presence must've hypnotized me into selling. Just kidding! But he put me at ease. As a matter of fact I returned the following week to sell bits and pieces of gold jewelry lying around, mostly 10K crap and one 14K piece, which I was able to sell for $90. Good enough. As I mentioned the best part of the interaction was the welcoming attitude and not dealing with any dismissive attitudes like I found at the previous store.
