What an amazing contractor. I'm blown away. Brian came over to the house several times to assist us in the design since we were, admittedly, all over the map. His experience and know-how contributed to the success. He's a really good designer so if you hire him, don't be afraid to tap this skill. On the installation day, his guys arrived on time and ready to work. I was expecting a full week and they got it all done in about 2.5 days. They cleaned up at the end of each day and we never lost the use of the staircase which was a total bonus given: kids, dogs etc... Just a great experience and well within our budget. We are in need of a full redo of our stairs. Previous stairs the steps had carpet while the rails and handles were previously sanded and painted from original. We got bids from at least 3 licensed companies. Let me list out all of the reasons why we ended up choosing Brian and Semper. First and foremost, you actually deal directly with the owner of the company which is Brian himself. He does not just oversee your project, but he's the one working alongside the trenches with his crew. His professionalism and friendliness throughout the process made our project experience equally as important aside from the final masterpiece. You have to experience for yourself that he puts every attention, detail and true care to his work as if it were his own house! For instance, he proactively ran by us that he would like to add extra balusters and raise up our hallway handrails for safety. His crew are super clean after each hard day's work and always willing to communicate and accommodate during the project. Semper came in right at the middle with regard to pricing. It sounds cliche' that there's a saying "you get what you pay for." I'll also add to that quote, "if you're lucky." You will definitely get both and more with Brian! Just have patience when it comes to the initial pricing quotes or having Brian actually take a look at your project. Do not let his lack in initial communication in getting a quote as a sign that he's not interested in your project. As a reminder he's actually the one working alongside his crew so his time is limited during the day and is typically busy working during the day. He doesn't send someone else to do his bids. He's the one from initial quotes to the construction of your project. I would say that if you're in need of a full redo or gutting of your stairs go with Semper. You will get what you paid for if not more. We cannot stop marveling at our stairs since it's one of the main features as you open your front door for guest or just overrall an everyday high traffic area that my family often notice daily. When we purchased our home, it had the original 1960s stair railing. I didn't mind the stair railing but with an active 2 year old, the wide balusters scared me! We needed to switch it out ASAP before moving in. I reached out to Brian at Semper Fine Stairs, after finding him on Yelp, and he was quick to respond. I was able to text him photos of the style I wanted to replace it with, and he gave me his honest feedback and worked with our budget. He was not the cheapest, nor the highest bid we received, but we decided to move forward with him because of his communication and honesty, which went a long way. Brian met us at our home to take some measurements and confirm the style, even leaving me some iron balusters over the weekend to decide on. He never pushed us one way or another, and offered good advice in terms of being up to code. We were on a very tight schedule and he was able to complete the project within our timeframe, showing up everyday, on time and ready to complete the next task. The lines of communication were always open between us, even responding to my text after hours (sorry Brian!) His crew - from the demo team, to painters, etc. were very courteous and respected Covid practices, which we appreciated. Note: I did NOT use this company for installation on my staircase. However, I was so impressed with Brian and talking with him about the staircase in my house that I needed to write a review. I was talking to several companies regarding a re-do on my staircase. The only reason I did not go with Brian at Semper Fine Stairs, is because of timing. The estimate was right on par with the other estimates I received and his knowledge is very evident with talking to him. I was extremely impressed with how honest and patient he was when talking with me, a novice with terms regarding stairs e.g. Treads, ballusters, etc. He helped me understand what would work for my small staircase and was very up front with the costs and the reasoning behind the costs. I was even surprised how much he was willing to work with budgeting. Very sorry I could not work with him and his company, but still greatly appreciate his time.
