We want to reduce our use of energy as much as we can. We had solar panels already so getting the Tesla backup battery was the next step. From sales to installation we had a great experience. PG&E has approved it and now we are waiting to get contacted about how to use the app for the battery. We look forward to having reliable backup in the event of a power loss now with this installed. read more

Semper Solaris installed Solar Panels on my roof and since installment the Lifetime roof has been leaking called several times to Semper Solaris and they send technicians who are ill equipped and do not bring enough materials to fix the issue. They have been out 4 times and every time their excuses are (either they do not have enough material or the person needs additional help. Every time I have to take days off from work so I could accommodate them. Upon calling the company the owners do not respond and the employees do not answer phones and even if they answer the phone call, they start making excuses. I have spoken to Rachel, Alexandra, Kristin and many others to no fix in site. Due to their negligence, I will now have to replace my entire roof which is a cost of over $25,000. I will be also taking legal actions to recover my cost of replacing my roof and legal fees along with other damages . I am also going to contact local news channels to come and see the work Semper Solaris has done and air their findings so no other persons are duped by this company and its owners John Almond and Kelly Shawhan. I believe that they are in a business of giving bad name and reputation to our service men & women in armed forces by using their reputation as veteran owned. My advise to future customers of this company not to do any business as some of the reviews posted are either paid or by their employees so please beware of this company. read more

Initially, they installed a top flight solar system. I did spec the equipment to be installed but they delivered a great price on the package and then did a great job installing the system. I had them back a few years later to install a battery storage system and it was, again, great equipment at a good price well installed. To their credit, they stayed with me for another year to process the PGIP Rebate through PG&E for the battery storage system they installed. Believe me, that PG&E rebate process is so complicated and obtuse it would have never gotten done without their help - all a year after they completed the battery storage project for which I wanted the PG&E rebate. All in, I got 30% Tax Credits on the solar system and then again on the battery system. And another $1,500 from PG&E. Nice to have a veteran owned business servicing a veteran like me. read more

OVER TWO YEARS we have been working on this solar project with Semper Solaris. They are STILL not finished and everything was installed months ago. The worst part is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of anyone at their company. You will wait on hold for hours to speak with a representative. We're lost in the machine with these guys and it has been nothing short of a nightmare to deal with them. DO NOT HIRE THEM FOR YOUR SOLAR PROJECT, they will leave you hanging out to dry. read more

I choose this company only based on reviews found on yelp. There is about 15 holes on my living room ceiling and another 6 in a bed room. Needless to say the wife is pissed at me. Well, you be the judge! To be continued... 12/7/19 - work still hasn't been completed. Employees showed up, I freed my Saturday morning from 9am-11 to get the issues resolved. Issue #1 fill and match holes found in my ceiling Issue #2 move panels to original location we discussed when I signed the agreement. "I'll provide the paperwork" On top of my garage. Where no obstructions or trees are. Anyways, roofer didn't show up so panels didn't get moved. The holes did get filled in but not color/stain matched. "Filling needs to dry up before stain can be applied." 12/14/2018- The holes have been filled, the stain on the ceiling still needs to get done. I've been assured it will happen next Tuesday 12/18. (See pics)... The inspector came in today 12/14 and approved the work. Just waiting on PGE. So, I went to the roof to check the panels and wiring. Since 2 of the panels were placed on top of the house near a tree. (Originally the plan I signed specified the panels would be on top of my garage roof but since all 6 panels would not fit I found the panels on top of my home and that led to the holes on my ceiling.) I will add pictures, original plan documents, etc... So you realize I'm not just making stuff up. I will also make this review more coherent... (soon as I get to laptop) Team agreed to move 3 panels and they did move 2 today. Fine no big deal. Some dude not associated with Semper Solaris will color match/stain our ceiling on Tuesday, not a problem I met the team, really nice and friendly guys that came to my home but maybe more training as support is needed from their company. I go up to my roof, check connections and work and find connections unplugged in panels. Maybe they were moving fast, just seems like a careless mistake. The original zip ties are there. See pictures, video.. I can't make this stuff up if I tried. I won't call or bother with this until my ceiling stain is done. 01/09/2019- I Received permission to operate from Utility company. I turned on the inverter and no watts are being produced. 01/22/19- technician came out anSolar panels are not working to this day. Waiting on call from Semper Solaris. Also, holes in ceiling have not been stained/color matched I'm still waiting on that. 04/12/2019- it took a while for this update but no issues with equipment and panels work great and over produce! Like what most reviews here, overall installers were friendly, quick and efficient. Is the project done and completed to specs? Yes. Was it priced as quoted? Yes. Did we get the rebates as calculated? To be determined. It was a bumpy ride with a light at the end of the tunnel. We had to navigate for the most part of the early months of the project and had to escalate up in order to get a dedicated "project manager". Rachel, was great and is always good with follow ups after we've been assigned to her. Expect an average of 6-8 month process. Rebates are basically at the hands of both you filing it in with your taxes, and SGIP through PGE. Although they file on your behalf, we'll wait and see if it lands in my mailbox some time in the future. Negatives and why it's a 4 star - the company is functioning in pods that seem to never talk to each other and uncoordinated. They'll have a general sense of direction but it's the little details that gets lost in the process. ie sometimes your coordinator will think that you need your panels still need to be provisioned while the installers already did that etc. Definitely always follow up. One team will say one thing but when you get a hold of another they'll be on a different page. Regarding estimated wattage production of my project, it is currently 900-1100kw off, and may be due to weather or other factors. But just keep that in mind when you're estimating the size of your project because you might want to over compensate or overestimate by that much to achieve actual desired numbers. read more

The installation process was an absolute shit show. The County Inspector told the workers what needed to be done, and the Inspector failed the work three separate times. The project was two months behind schedule. The Contract is all online. If you are not computer savvy, you will hate this part of the process. Calls to corporate office are not returned. Well they made some progress as there were out the other day to exchange old circuit breaker panel for a new one however the schematic they installed on the old box was not transferred to the new box and not sure if the install has been signed off by the county or whether system is actually tied to meter or if panels are helping to reduce monthly electric bill. No one has given us info on using the app to track input from panels so still in the dark on usefulness of the system. read more

The sales rep and customer service folks were very helpful, kind and patient. The installation crew was responsive and communicated well. I really enjoyed all of my interactions with Semper Solaris personnel. However, the system was installed 6 months after the promised date, which was a big consideration in choosing this company over better-rated ones. The timeline was laid out after the onset of the pandemic. They did give us a discount for late installation. The panels were installed a bit crooked, and the installers got some glue on the surface of a couple panels, which I can't get off. Overall, Semper is a solid option, but I would have chosen Cobalt or someone else if I were to do it over again. No insult intended. read more

Beware the Tesla Powerwall scam! Moving from an original 5 Star review down to 2 Stars. We had a wonderful experience having our entire roof redone, solar panels added and Tesla Powerwalls installed by SS a couple of years ago. I just had them over to quote adding a single additional Powerwall to the existing system. They quoted $27k!! Given that you can buy a single Powerwall from Tesla directly for around $8k, they proposed charging $19k to simply add it to an existing system. Clearly a scam and really poor business ethic for a previously happy returning customer. read more

This company under engineered the amount of panels needed to cover our electrical needs so really never got money back from what we paid for their panels. We had $3,000 bills this fall!!! They then found out that there was a problem with equipment and after months they contacted us to fix it. Good, but long and mixed experience. Short version -Would recommend Semper Solaris, but expect to be your own project manager so your project doesn't get lost in the Semper vortex. Expect an 8-9 month process. Lots of delays and confusion, but it was COVID. Happy with the final result so far. Installation crews were professional and did a good job. Semper handled all the paperwork with the county and electric company. Longer version. OCT 2020 - Semper was recommended by a friend. Semper Solaris was the only company that came out to look at my tile roof, BEFORE asking me to sign a contract. Robert was the most knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive sales rep I ever talked to. ( I had spoken with several) I signed with Semper because of this rep. Robert told us they could not install on our type of cement shingles but could replace a section of the roof with asphalt shingles. Later, there was an unexpected $1,700 change order after the initial bid for a new 'transfer switch', blamed on new county/pge requirements. Ok?? Dec 2020 - With holidays and sample shipping. We had a 3 weeks delay on our side as we picked new shingles for the section where the solar panels would go. Jan 2021 - All county permits were approved, but no start date. Uncharacteristically, no response from Robert started. But, I would get weekly calls from Semper corporate people I never met, asking me if I had any questions, and trying to reschedule site inspections I already had. Confusing. No one could tell me when my project might start. Feb 26, 2021 - I figured Robert had moved on, or had some personal issues, he ghosted me. I escalated my project to sempercares@semper.com. I quickly got a call from Lainey informing me she would be handling my project and not Robert. I didn't want to lose access to Robert, he was an incredible resource, but he was largely absent and non-responsive now. March 2021 - Weekly calls with Lainey, but she was unable to give me a start date...any start future date. I didn't know if Semper had too much business or was dying during COVID and about to go under. Confusing. April 2021 - I finally told Lainey if she could not plan a start date ANY TIME in the future, it made me feel like Semper didn't want to or can't handle my project. Semper apparently had a cancelation and Lainey was able to start my project within a few days. April 15 2021 - The roofing crew came out ( from far away) and took off a section of the roof and re-roofed it with asphalt shingles in 1 day. Very professional crew. . April 30th - The solar project started. The crew came out with tile brackets and said they didn't know the roof was re-done with asphalt, and they normally install on the cement tiles I just replaced. This left me very confused wondering while I just paid $3-4k to do anything to the roof. I did get a hold of Robert, who suggested the roof work. Robert was adamant the work was necessary and better for leaks. The Semper Solaris roof crew was adamant it wasn't necessary. Again confusing. May 19, 2021 - PG&E approved my system. There was some billing confusion along the way. Lainey kept me informed and was responsive during this process. July 2021 - I inquired with the Semper SGIP rebate team. The battery rebate I was awarded was 1/2 of what I was told by Semper in October I could get. Robert mentioned in October, that sometimes the PG&E rebate fund is reloaded and we could re-apply. And so I did it through Alyssa from Sepmers SGIP team. THANK YOU! September Thanks to Alyssa ( and Robert who initially told me last year that I could re-apply for my SGIP rebate). We had two solar panels not working, I contacted Cherise and she notified the appropriate department within a day. David called us two days ahead of schedule and informed us they were defective and had to be replaced. We encountered many issues with the installation and then roof leaks, but to their credit, Semper did the repairs. We are happy with the prompt responses we received from Cherise and David. As with the further follow-up on the repair, Cherise was helpful and prompt. read more

Semper Solaris is the WORST run solar company that I have ever dealt with, and I have dealt with quite a few. My roof is stone-coated metal tile, which apparently presents some problems to some solar companies. I have signed contracts with 7 or 8 different companies to get solar panels, only to have them renege because of my roof material. I did have one company install some panels about 2 and a half years ago, but I didn't get enough. When I went to them to add some more, they wanted too much money, so I made the mistake of calling Semper Solaris. I signed a contract with a salesman named Clint, who ASSURED ME that installing on my roof would be fine. This was AFTER I showed him my roof, described the material and told him that I had problems getting panels installed by other companies. Well, a few days later guess what. They told me that they couldn't install and refunded my deposit, but the problems didn't end there. Now I keep getting emails from both PG & E and Semper Solaris urging me to sign the Net Metering 2 agreement, so that Semper Solaris can install panels for me. I have written to explain, today I called Semper Solaris. After being on hold for almost 10 minutes, I angrily left a voice mail demanding that they end this. So, what happened next? Then I got 2 emails. One from Semper Solaris and one from PG &E asking me to e-sign their NM2 agreement. What does it take to get through to these morons? This company has been a nightmare. We specifically asked, what happens if the solar panels are not installed by the loan start date. They assured us that our solar panels would be installed before we would have to begin payments because it was months away. This is not what happened! The loan company said Semper just had to ask for a later start date if the panels aren't installed yet, but Semper said they couldn't push the date back because the loan company didn't let them change the date. So they are basically pointing fingers at each other, while we're about to get stuck making our usual SDGE bill, and additional payments for the solar panels we do not even have! Buyer beware! Don't go with this company, because they will make promises they will not keep, then you will be stuck making payments to SDGE and a loan company for the solar panels we do not have. read more

Install of Tesla Powerwall was done in a professional manner. The solar rebate hasn't been issued yet after 8-9 months since install. I was told by Siemper, I had to call their main office, that PG&E wasn't offering the rebate at this time. So, still waiting! I was told that the battery representative would come out to explain how the system operates using the solar app they install on your iPhone. I guess they don't do that service anymore. I had to call their main office to speak to the representative. He told me if I had any questions to please call him. It would have been nice to be instructed on the app, it would have saved me a lot of time. read more

I will say that the customer service at Semper Solaris has been incredible. Immediately after posting a review, someone from CS reached out to see what they could do to help out with the situation. After 6 months of problem solving, two inverter changes, some faulty parts replacement, management assured me that they would make the necessary repairs, and make sure that I was fully satisfied with the service. Communication has been great, and my system is up and running. My electric bills are now only the base service fees, and we've had 3 blackouts with zero interruptions in our service. I'm seriously hoping that I can update this review again and even give them more stars in future. read more

12/25/2018 8:00AM Xmas morning woke up to leaking water into our living room, serious water damage as a result of once again poor workmanship! Now the Drywall, Xmas presents, Xmas tree have all been compromised! I have internal water damage! So I sent texts/videos to JP and Humberto at Semper to show my current situation as a result of the temporary patch work done about a month ago. More to come with this review 2/18/19 Changed from 1 star to 4 stars because company took accountability by performing some much needed remodifications to the torch down flat area of my roof! Work looks like good workmanship and the guys were working tirelessly to make things right. I really appreciated that big applause to JP for making things right!!! I am hopeful and optimistic once the rain comes back it will hold up. My advice: choose a different service provider. Semper Solaris was all smiles and responsiveness when they quoted solar at our house, but disappeared once we paid them. Our system has not worked properly since day one, and I have literally been calling for over a year to try to get it fixed. They have sent out service techs 3x, but each visit they either don't have the right equipment, or are not authorized to fix my problem by their supervisor because they only have a certain amount of time allotted to the visit - - it's just been very frustrating. It's unfortunate, because all the techs I've dealt with on the service/install side have been very friendly and seemingly competent. My hunch is the company is so busy doing installations, making money on that side, that they have little appetite to deal with less profitable service calls. I would go elsewhere. read more

I contacted Semper Solaris and despite the pandemic causing multiple delays, we had it smoothly installed and the highest quality installation we could have asked for. WASTE OF TIME! Do not do business with this company. We wasted 6 months for nothing. We signed our contract with our sales rep back in December. The consultation was amazing and my husband and I thought we found our solar company. BUT, after the contracts were signed, we did not hear from them at all. I had to call and ask for updates. 6 months, nothing was happening until I told them I wanted to cancel. All of a sudden, things were finally rolling. Got an installation date! I even took time off work so I can be home during the process. I waited and waited...NOTHING! Apparently, the project manager gave out the wrong dates and there was no one coming to install! After talking to multiple people, I knew...no one was on the same page. No one knew what the f**k was going on. I quickly decided to cancel because I refuse to work with a company so unorganized and clueless about their work! If you are thinking about getting solar with this company, I highly suggest to look elsewhere. Don't waste your time...I will not recommend this company at all! As a response for the company...No, Covid was NOT the reason for the delay. I contacted the company in April asking if Covid was the reason for the delay, and I was assured it was not. They are not responsive to your questions, it takes forever to talk to anyone except for sales team who is pushing 1-star service while claiming it's the best in the industry. I am a new customer. While I think the system is roughly looking right, there are a TON OF ISSUES (many discussed openly right here on Yelp!) with Semper and the company positions its' communications in such a way that it is impossible to contact anyone to discuss!!! I signed up with Semper because a) I want to support the "Semper cause", which I consider very worthwhile; b) the owners have responded to customer issues in the past publicly, and I felt this represents a very high customer-centricity; c) they easily outbid others who gave me quotes; and, d) they use good quality components (Silfab panels, Enphase inverter). What Semper is not getting right (and all of this affects me): 1) As mentioned in these reviews over and over again, there is fundamentally no customer escalation path. No one here in the reviews got any traction, and now you can add me to the list after months of trying. 2) Semper fails miserably on pre- and post-installation. On this item alone, I give them a -5 stars (since +5 is the best, -5 is the worst!). On the pre-installation side, after panels installed in April I am told they have to re-submit blueprint to PG&E because of a change they had to make - problem? - 3 months of production NOT credited because PG&E did not make official until resubmission. IMHO, Semper owes me $'s for this delay. On the post-installation, even worse!!! I was assigned a special contact because of all the delays and problems, but the person assigned to me was over-worked, became sick without having a backup that was more than just a name, as described in these reviews - never answered my questions satisfactorily, and the list goes on and on. The person now ignores anything I send and this has already resulted in a loss of sales for Semper as I plan to buy new central A/C and electric heat pump but NOT from Semper. Finally, on this item, Semper has a very NON-customer-centric practice, reinforced by the person assigned to me when she said "...we install...we then cut you loose...". SAY WHAT? Kidding, right? NOT! I've had solar before and this is a first for me --- any company worth their salt will "be with the customer" for at least 1 billing cycle and then have a wrap-up call with the customer. In this regard, SEMPER NEEDS TO ADOPT A CUSTOMER END-TO-END CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. Every Solar Rights group (and there are many) supports this concept!!! 3) Semper has a serious problem estimating your electric needs. They want a 1 year history of bills. That's fine, but if you recently purchased the home then the electric use likely does not match your own. Result is either under- or over- what is really needed. In my case, the additional factors I raised (i.e. A/C frequently) does not seem to have been incorporated in the final estimate as I believe we were under-sold panels (and the original estimate was 8 panels for which I demanded they install 12 panels - now I think I really need 16 panels - two times more than their estimate!!! In conclusion, I believe Semper, overall, has "good bones" meaning a good business model that can be made better by incorporating customer comments like I have written above. The problem is that they have to WANT TO BE A GREAT COMPANY, and that means to be open to feedback and LISTEN, not just hear, before responding --- this new culture then needs to flow down in to the entire company. Finally, on this review, the other thing Semper needs to do to become a great company is to call me to address my issues and your first "turn the customer around" customer. After waiting with little to no word for over 6 months with another company, we found the solution. Where some Other Companies get it wrong, poorly communicate and never update, and just flat out do not deliver, Semper Solaris gets It Done. Super happy with the whole experience of adding 9 additional panels to my existing 5 panel system. Reasonably priced too, i was quoted 7k for one additional panel from another company. From when I first called to panels on the roof, it felt like a month which i thought was super fast. This company is very responsive, communicative, professional and knowledgeable. Everyone that came to the house was friendly and professional. They know the steps, they have the right ppl and they get it done. Stuff i learned thru this process: --Panels connected to enphase app that integrated old and new systems. Love that app. --Alameda county permitting for this is easy and inspection was relatively timely --After inspection passes, the panels go live. --Payment was very easy, once u give them ur info once, they take care of the timing and amt of payments as they stated in quote and give u helpful reminders. read more

They worked non-stop to get the Powerwalls installed and were done earlier than expected. In October, we contracted Semper Solaris to install a Tesla Powerwall 2 at our home. We provided them with all the requested information, access to the property for the design team, and timely sign-off. On February 28, we had an appointment for the installation of the Tesla Powerwall unit. The crew showed up, and after about 30 min of measuring informed us, it was not possible to install the Powerwall where they had recommended it. The team then left again with no further information. Since then, we had no communication from Semper Solaris. We contacted the Sales Rep, Roy Shiroma, and our Customer Support Rep, Stephanie Mattern, by email on March 12 but heard nothing. No information, no calls, nothing. We then informed them we were going to cancel the order with immediate effect, and finally heard from another person from Customer Support, Lei‑lua Watanabe. However, at this point, we had lost complete confidence in Semper Solaris and their ability to do the work. To say we were disappointed with the service received from Semper Solaris is an understatement. If their values are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage, I think they have not lived up to these values on this job. Response times are poor to non-existent which includes the 2 founders when I tried to escalate. I will be seeking cancellation and damages via legal support. Broken Hole in the bathroom (below the roof where they were working). I complained of the broken hole. My request was ignored. They "Debited" the cost. The left a mess in my bathroom. They left a mess in the yard and on my driveway. They did not verify or acknowledge their SCREW UP. I complained to the company and they still have not come to see their SCREW UP. The job was started on Monday morning. It is now Tuesday evening. I have pictured of the bathroom ceiling and the hole. A Very Irate customer!!! read more

After 6 months and full payment my system failed to produce a single watt. They outsourced the installation to a 3rd party and the crews were sloppy and not professional. They drilled holes all over my roof for the wrong panel layout and simply filled the old holes with white caulk after correcting the layout. My gutters are also bent from ladder placement on them. My system failed final inspection 3 times before passing, yet still didn't function when activated due to unknown errors. If using Semper I would insist on them not outsourcing the work so they can take direct responsibility for their work. Update: After posting this review my system was immediately fixed without delay. Fortunately all panels and inverters were great quality. 2 of my neighbors using Semper had excellent installs, but their installation was not outsourced. read more

I will update this as time goes on. I don't judge companies by their problems. I judge them by how they respond to the problems. Please read my entire review. I am the president of a small company that grew very quickly. I am very empathetic to growing pains but when you spend $60k+ cash on something you expect some level of competence in communication and project management. Semper Solaris - fancy commercials, catchy beat and veteran owned. These are the reasons I went with the company that came in the 4th highest of my 5 quotes. Yes. I awarded the job based on principle and values and I had high expectations. My system is one of the first Enphase Ensemble Systems installed in the area. It's a large-ish system and had 30 panels and 23kw of batteries installed on a clay tile roof. I can't say enough about how good the system is performing and it has had minimal issues after install. My review is in two parts. Pre Rachel K and post Rachel K. Rachel K is a senior fixer at Semper and was assigned to me after a scathing letter I sent to the organization. Pre Rachel - my install schedule was random. People would show up to my house unannounced and tell me things that were in direct contradiction to communication I had with my sales person. It was pretty bad. They ripped out my old system and clay tiles and reroofed the areas for the new solar before they were even close to being ready for the install of the new system. I was without my old 5kw solar generation for 5 months. Not because of anything but poor communication within SS. It was wild. I was pissed. My electric bill went from $100 to $600 for 5 months with no compensation. There were numerous 'other' issues all related to people coming to do jobs that were already completed, items that were never part of my spec, or unnecessary items I didn't need. Some of this is normal "stuff that goes wrong" but with my roof ripped off and no communication about when solar would be installed, I was not happy. Mind you - my issue is not with the workers. In fact, their work team is real good. The guys that ran my conduit went overboard to do an exceptional job. It is the cleanest conduit run I have ever seen. He matched the pitch of my roof, had precise bends and generally did a bang up job. The roofers seemed to do a good job. They even went the extra mile to do attic runs (vs external conduit) on my EV charger. All my issues where with project coordination. I came to find out they were deploying a new CRM - sales force - I have done big tech deployments, they are hard and it explains a lot. I didn't know this before is sent a scathing email to my sales guy and an owner via LinkedIn. After the email, thing got better BECAUSE they assigned Rachel K to my case. She got a shit sandwich b/c I was already upset. My sales guy resigned so she was my only lifeline to the company. Mind you, I was on the brink of escalating the issue to arbitration or a lawyer. But I didn't, and in hindsight, I am glad I didn't. After Rachel K, I had consistent communication, good coordination and even when there was glitches in communication Rachel was there to figure it out. She called when I was pissed (which takes guts) and she was focused on solutions and moved passed the emotions. She brute forced communication within SS to get to the right answer. Simply put, she was excellent and saved a legal escalation and quite frankly took a a deeply negative experience and turned it to a positive experience step by painful step. She must be a witch because I don't know what magic she used but thing got better - I actually do know. She was empathetic, persistent and kept moving the ball forward. I have a few people like Rachel K on my staff and they are gold. Better than gold. They are the lifeblood of my organization and I suspect she is likewise crucial to SS. She is one of a kind and took a 1 star review and made it 4 stars and I suspect it will even go to 4.5 stars if I could. I will be expanding my battery system shortly and if Semper adds in whole house generator installation, I will be integrating that with my system (the ensemble system allows for generators to backup your batteries).
