TL;DR (long version in the photos)--I never write reviews of businesses, let alone small businesses but I am hoping that doing this will save someone else what I went through. I visited Semra's studio twice and she gave me a severe allergic reaction (Google PPD allergic reaction and HD Brows and BrowSculpt) that left me with severe hives on my face and extreme swelling of the eyes/ face for which I had to see three doctors and had to use six separate medications. It took me over a month to fully recover (I visited her salon Sept. 17, and am only now fully recovered as of late Oct.). After I told her about it, the only apology she gave me was "sorry to hear about it :(" I asked her for a refund and she refused, not even refunding me the tip or the cost of the service that caused the allergic reaction. On top of that, when I sent her the pictures, her reaction most generously could be understood as ignorance about a very common allergy that occurs due to the chemicals she uses in the line of work she's been in for ~30 years and at worst as accusing me of lying. She refused to take any accountability even when her actions seriously harmed a customer. I'll let you draw whatever conclusions you believe appropriate from my experience. read more

I love love love this place. I've been going to this place to get my lashes done for almost three years. I get the yumi keratin lash lift done every 10-12 weeks. I use to get them done every 8 weeks, but now that my lashes are longer I noticed they can last up to 10-12 weeks. I also noticed my lashes got so much longer after I was doing these lifts for a year. Semra is amazing. She's always gentle with my lashes and takes amazing care to make sure they look good. I always leave satisfied with my lashes. My eyes are usually very sensitive as well. When I use to get regular lash lifts, my eyes would get irritated. But with the yumi lash lifts, my eyes aren't irritated. I think the chemicals are more gentle than regular lash lifts. Also I love the natural look of these lashes. They're so curly and long and just naturally pretty. I also got my brows done twice here. I usually don't get my brows done because I don't really care about my brows as much as I do my lashes lol, but Semra made my brows look really nice as well. I was impressed by how different I look with them shaped better. I will think about doing my brows more often here read more

My brows came out fine it was just very overpriced for what you get. I didn't receive a consultation or brow mapping. It was waxed and some cool toned powder and pomade was applied. The brow products seemed to be private labeled. There wasn't a hard push to buy the products they were mentioned. Im not upset about the price. But I do think your prices should reflect your service, tools/materials etc. The pricing structure makes no sense for the basic wax. Semra should send you home with a small after care bag of tools or show you how to maintain them. Clients are more sophisticated now and want bang for their buck. And I am positive Semra could part with those cheap private label pomades and brushes. Semra wasnt rude, her place was very clean (minus the dog) but I fell for the hype as the best place in DC. I will not go back but will seek other waxing alternatives. This review is only for the basic wax for new customers. I do not know how any of the other services are. I dont think I would go back because the service was so expensive for something so basic. read more

Semra isn't inexpensive as several other reviewers note, but the results from my first wax/tweeze eyebrow appointment were nothing short of outstanding. Very cute private salon tucked off a quiet street in Georgetown. I don't like skinny eyebrows and she understood that and created a gorgeous arch that's not too "90s skinny." I understand if some others below don't want to pay these prices as they're really high but, for me, for this particular eyebrow arch service, it was worth it. I will most likely return to Semra when I am next in Washington DC. read more

Yes, it was "meh", which is disappointing because I REALLY wanted to have a go-to eyebrow person in DC for when I cannot see my long-time eyebrow whiz in Boston. After looking around, I found Semra, made an appointment online and noted that initial appointments have an "initial brow consultation" for $10 more. That's fine, but I expected a consultation. Instead, barely a hello (it was a "have I met you before?") as I was directed to lie down while another client was behind me having something done that required time to set (a tint, maybe?). No consultation, only asked if I had waxing in the past and then Semra just kept on chatting with the other client. $65 ("consult", wax and tip... just because I feel badly not tipping, for whatever reason) and about 12 mins later I was done, and never to return. read more

I was introduced to Semra at 16 when she was working out of a salon in Georgetown. She then left and ever since then I have followed her everywhere she has been. Her place now is wonderful great location and parking isn't bad during the week. I have always been complimented on my eyebrows. I have gone off to school in other places and always retuned home to have my brows done by her. I tried someone in Colorado who was recommended and they were awful!! I am now much older ;) and she is still my brow guru. I have recommended friends who's now entire families go to see her. She is truly a master. read more

Eyebrows are the first thing people look at, or maybe its just me.... I got the recommendation to go see Semra, from a coworker, because her brows are always on fleek. Yes, I used fleek! It the heart of Georgetown, in a hidden little office space, I went, and got these brows perfected. Semra took her time, and told me that she wanted to keep the natural shape of my brows, and just wanted to clean them up, and make a few adjustments for them to grow out more naturally. So, I let her do her thing, And 15 minutes later, I felt like a new woman She slayed my whole entire eyebrow game. The first visit is a little pricey, but it was worth every penny. I am very particular about my brows (as many of you are!). Before today, I was driving from Capitol Hill to Rockville, Maryland (35 miles!) to get my brows done. I got fed up with the drive. I can't believe I waited so long to get my brows done. Semra is an eyebrow Goddess! My mother and I both went, had an initial shaping and tinting. I visited Semra for an eyebrow shaping and lash tint appointment. My eyebrows haven't been waxed in years and I was getting tired of tweezing so decided to grow them out and start over. Semra's salon is beautiful and in such a great location. She was so gentle and approachable. But the best part of the experience is that she created the perfect eyebrow shape for my face and they look so cleaned up. The lash tint turned out great as well. I definitely recommend it...darkens up the lashes so you can go without mascara on casual days and then bump up the drama with mascara for the evening. Can't wait to go back for my maintenance. Semra does a fantastic job with eyebrows. My eyebrows are a sensitive spot for me because I have always had really thick/big eyebrows. It was difficult to find someone who knew how to properly shape them, but Semra does them perfectly every time. I get compliments on them all the time, which is a great confidence boost. Yvette also does fantastic facials. She takes her time, asks about your facial care routine, and provides no pressure suggestions on how to better care for your skin. She is also very thorough with extractions. They may be the least fun part of getting a facial, but they are important. She gets them done efficiently, with care, and doesn't miss anything that she can clean out of your skin. You are in excellent hands if you get a facial with Yvette. Finally, I just want to mention the booking website. It makes booking your appointments very easy and makes it easy to combine services. You can book your eyebrow and facial appointments together, and then the website sends you a reminder of your appointments about 2 days beforehand. It has made everything very convenient, and it makes it easy to book appointments for the whole semester at once or on the go when you don't have time to make a phone call. Semra is great! I started getting eyelash extensions and having her do my brows in January and I can't say enough good things about her work. I've never been so happy with my eyebrows... She has perfected their shape! Also, if you are thinking about getting eyelash extensions.. my advice is to do it and to go to Semra! She is so detail oriented and really takes her time with them. I have been going to Semra to do my eye brows for nearly 20 years. She is the best in DC, hands down.

First time getting my eyebrows waxed as a lovely gift from a friend. Eyebrows looked lovely. What was not very lovely was that the wax went too low on my eyelids and ripped my skin. It has been red and dark for a few days now and I am worried about it not healing, particularly in such a highly visible and sensitive location. I realize it has to do with usage of retinoids or acne cream but as a customer (especially first time one as I had explained to her) I should not be expected to know this. The professional should always ask, it takes one second to do so. I have to say that Semra was nice about it after and applied some neosporin and plucked rather than waxed my other eyebrow. But the experience turned me off from waxing and I probably won't do it again. I am so grateful to my wonderful friend for pampering me, but at 50 bucks a pop I expected more attention to detail and not to have painful and red ripped-skin eyelids for 3 days after. read more
