Wow, wow, wow! That's all I have to say about this place. Sen Thai just opened about less than a year ago, but you're going to want to bookmark this spot for sure! We were told that this place has the best pad thai on the peninsula, so of course we had to try it. It lived up to the hype and I personally thought it was better than the best pad thai we had in Bangkok. It had soooo much flavor and very light sweetness, which I preferred. Another wow factor was that garlic sauce that came with the seabass. It was so good, we wanted to lick the plate clean lol. I only tried one cocktail, but it was very well made and easy to drink.  They also have Happy Hour every day from 4:30-6:30pm with deals on beer, cocktails, wine, and food. Came to Sen on a Sunday night and more or less had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Unexpectedly intimate I guess. Looking over the menu, there were a few dishes that I've never seen at a Thai restaurant before which piqued my curiosity but for the first time at any place, I generally like to get my footing with the classics first. Hence, we started with the roti. Personally, I really liked their chicken curry on the side. It was rich and unctuous, perfect for clinging onto the roti. The roti, however, was unexpectedly deep fried and I personally thought this took away from the buttery flaky texture. For mains, we ordered several plates but few actually stood out. The chicken in the green curry was super overcooked and the curry itself was pretty thin. The main ingredient was also canned bamboo shoots so in my opinion, it was not good value. The larb was also a fairly small serving size and it wasn't quite as punchy as I would like. I typically associate larb with a lot of fresh herbs and lettuce leaves for eating and unfortunately neither were present. Moreover the green beans we ordered were also sautéed just a bit under leading it to be a little grassy and a bit tougher to chew. There also wasn't much flavoring on this. The tiger crying and the pad see ew though were as expected in my opinion which was good. We also added a few of their dressed oysters after learning that it was $1.50 each. Now this was punchy. It had some chili jam, lime juice, and fried shallots. I would have more of these for sure. All in all, Sen Thai is middle of the road for me. It'll scratch that itch for Thai food if you really want it but there's also better options in nearby cities in my opinion. read more

The soft shell crab noodles were delicious, creamy, coconut flavor with crunchy fried cream and delicious noodles. The tofu appetizer was more bland with not enough dipping sauce. The server was friendly, and we were not rushed and were able to chat freely at the table. The restaurant interior is nice, feeling more fancy. Sen Thai Noodle in San Carlos is a very nice place to get some good Thai food! My party went around happy hour time (6pm) and ordered a few things off of their happy hour menu and the regular menu. Here's what I had: - Happy hour oysters - Fried tofu Regular menu: - Papaya salad - Tom Yum noodle soup - Coconut rice - Yellow curry From the happy hour menu, I particularly liked the oysters which come at $1.50 per oyster. They were very fresh in our serve served with some condiments that give it a little bit of heat making a nice and refreshing appetizer. Standout dishes from regular menu: The Tom Yum noodle soup was packed with bold, balanced flavors (spicy, sour, and savory) and really comforting. The noodles, fish balls, and meat all tasted very delicious delicious and the soup was nice and light as well. The yellow curry was another highlight, rich and creamy with great depth of flavor, especially paired with the coconut rice. Highly recommend both of these places if you're in the mood for something soupy/has broth. The papaya salad was fresh and had a nice kick, definitely a little bit on the spicier side, but if you can handle heat is a nice appetizer like dish. Overall, a really solid spot with a couple of standout dishes I'd definitely come back for--especially the Tom Yum noodle soup and yellow curry. The prices are quite reasonable and around three dishes feeds a party of 3 to 4 people. Parking can be a bit challenging on Laurel Street, I recommend parking one of the garages and walking over or trying to find a spot on one of the side streets. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. There's a small outdoor dining section and a nice classy indoor section with a bar and booth seating. Sen Thai Noodle in San Carlos downtown is relatively new and serves authentic dishes with a polished vibe. + Check out their $20.95 lunch combo, which has an entree (rice plates, curry, stir fried noodles etc.) and a drink (Thai iced tea/ coffee etc.). We started with appetizers, the Hat Yai chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy. For mains, the Thai boat noodles are the standout, so flavorful and comforting, tastes exactly like you're transported to Thailand. I also loved the soft shell crab with yellow curry sauce, the woonsen pad Thai with its light yet savory profile. I usually don't see these dishes at a Thai restaurant in the Bay, so it was really fun to try something different! Newish Thai restaurant that opened in the last year. It's a big space and seems like it could hold large parties quite well. There is also a bar and an outdoor seating area. I tried the Khao Soi noodle soup and really liked it. I got mild spicy and thought that was good enough for me for a bit of a kick but not too spicy. I liked the flavor and the egg (?) noodles were good. I liked the chopped onions in the soup too. There was one chicken leg (not a ton of meat) but it was tasty. The Pad Thai here was delicious, with the perfect flavor. Our food took a little while to come out for our table, but it was worth the wait. The restaurant itself is really nice, modern, pretty big, and I love the open concept at the entrance. The servers were extremely kind and accommodating, which made the dining experience even better. I ordered oysters during happy hour ($1.50 ea) and I thought it was cool that there was no minimum; you could order as little as one. I got three, and they came without lemon, which is usually my favorite part. The oysters had their own sauce already added, so it was a new taste and experience I enjoyed. I also tried the mango sticky rice, and it was really good. The mangoes weren't super ripe when I visited in February, but the rice was sweet and a little stickier than usual, which balanced the slightly tart mango perfectly. I also loved that the tofu in the pad Thai was soft, not thick or firm, so if you like softer tofu, you'll enjoy it. Overall, really tasty food, great service, and a nice space. read more

I came for lunch and the lunch special is great. $20 with a drink and plenty of choices of noodle, rice dishes etc. Service was fast and very friendly. Didn't get quite get the complex spicy, sour, and herbaceous notes. - Proteins: Super tender pork shoulder (?), rich pork cracklings, and pork (?) meat balls. No traditional offal available. - Noodles: The rice noodles were clumped into one mass so it took some effort to unravel. While traditional that it was served in a small bowl, the price was very steep for the portion. Def need to order an app to leave somewhat full. S E R V I C E Super friendly and welcoming staff. Very nice location in downtown San Carlos. The restaurant was super spacious and the decor was well thought out. Service was nice, but it was a bit odd that my appetizer and entree came out a few minutes apart. Tom yum margarita was just ok. Didn't really taste the sweet and sour I was expecting. The food is expensive for what you get. Beef tartare was small, especially since you are paying $30. Both noodle bowls were tiny. They were good though! We came here on a lark - decided to try it as we walked by it. The service was so good. Very, very sweet server. The avocado and corn salad was delicious. I am going to try to make a version at home. The chicken Basil was also delicious- very flavorful. I know most places don't do this anymore but I wish that Thai, Chinese, and Indian food restaurants would just give you some rice with the food. Went to this new spot last night with a group of friends. Honestly, the best part of the evening was the company. We were all excited to try this place, especially since "noodle" is in the name, but the food didn't really live up to expectations. We started with a few appetizers, which came out on very small plates. They felt more like single servings than something you'd share with the table. Not ideal when you're with a group. For our mains, we all ordered noodle dishes, assuming that would be the restaurant's strong suit. When the first bowl hit the table, we all let out a surprised "wow"--not because it looked amazing, but because it was honestly tiny. It felt more like a child's portion than a $22 entree. I know dining out in the Bay Area can get pricey, but this felt a bit over the top. Flavor-wise, it was... fine. Nothing terrible, just not memorable. It reminded me of something I might make at home when I'm tired and working with whatever's in the fridge. One of my friends is an incredible cook and makes unbelievable pho, and she barely touched her bowl. That kind of said it all. I did have a cocktail, and to be fair, it was pretty good. But at $17, it was still a bit above the already-high local average. In the end, I left full (barely) but mostly disappointed, especially with how much we paid--about $110 per couple. Sen Thai Noodle opened recently and is a breath of fresh air with its unique style of food, pleasant, clean, relaxing atmosphere, and street side open bar. Sen is a plateau of originality well beyond your typical pad thai and peanut sauce, which does not appear on their "soft opening" menu. This is fare for the educated palate. I am told this is what Thai people consider their food as opposed to what has become a more Americanized norm. Leave your expecations outside. Our meal started with "Tiger Crying" shirt steak and "Pork Belly" tapas. The former looked grilled and the latter is fried. Both come with sauces which are really the secret of each dish. We did not leave a scrap of meat or a drop of sauce. The beef soaks it up better than the pork so the technique I used was to pour the sauce onto the meat on my plate and then nibble the pork pieces to allow for redipping at small intervals to maximize sauce retention. Both come with orchid flowers which are edible and should be consume, of course. Next came the Salmon Zapp. Again the sauce was the star. Anyone can serve cold dead fish but what turns CDF into a differentiated delectable dish is how it's autmented. If you like "sake" you will love this. No rice, all fish, and that sauce. And again, plate cleaned. Both of us had the Thai Boat, a noodle bowl, one with beef and the other with pork. Make no mistake about it this is not pho or ramen or any other kind of noodle soup you have had even in a market as sophisticated as the SF bay area. Having eaten almost every kind of soup I can get at a restaurant, this was a bowl I've never seen before. The broth is the unique bit. No surprise since the sauces were what made the other dishes. The description does not do the soup justice. It has much more than five-spice, soy, meat and meatballs. There are little crispy bits of what come off like the crispy, soft, juicy bits of thick bacon, flavorful veggies of varying kinds, and the numbers of peppers seems more than a handful. But it would be naive to think any chef would willingly tell you what's in the sauce. The dish was spicy hot (you can get it milder) which enhanced the flavor and added a depth to it. We ate as slowly as we could not wanthing to get to the bottom. I was so involved with the soup I forgot to take a picture of it until I had been chowing down already so I'm sorry but all I have to show is a half a bowl. There was a cocoanut and rice dessert we were treated to. It was three tiny dishes of this unique creme brulee-like custard which seemed both sweet and savory. The tiny size kept the thing non-intimidating, which is good for chaps like me which are usually too close to capacity by the time dessert shows up. Both of us in our dining duo rarely take alcohol with our meals but we were there for a good run up at a new place so we decided to make an exception to our norm and order mixed drinks which we were told were a high point of the place. Full disclosure, I am normally a scotch drinker, so I've got a rather narrow palate when it comes to the mixed set. We were pleasantly surprised. I'd say even for the normally staid drinkers like myself, just let loose and give it a go. If I had a few more bellies, I would have tried the rest of the menu right then. But given my limitations, it looks like I'll just have to return again, touching down at San Carlos from 165nm away. read more

I discovered Senthai recently, and I was so impressed that I dined there three times in one week... actually, weekend: Friday, Saturday and Sunday... don't judge. The food is fantastic, with authentic flavors with so much depth. As a guy who lived in Chiang Mai and Bangkok for six years, I was deleted to AT LAST have a great, great Thai spot arrive on San Carlos' Laurel Street in the spacious former Patxi's, which has a proper bar with the game on, outdoor seating for nice days and a roomy dining room great for parties big and small. If you were a fan of Belmont ECR joint Spoon & Fork (before the management change late in 2026), you're in luck. Chef has combined her terrific Spoon & Fork menu (which featured Thai staples such as Tom Yum, Sweet Basil, fried rice and Green Curry) with her Sen menu, which features hard to find Thai classics such as the Northern Thai "Khao Soi" noodle dish, Khanom Jeen Nam Ya and savory "Boat Noodles." The menu includes numerous Northern Thai/Northeastern Thai ("Isarn") dishes, larp, papaya salad & more. They do a great job at hitting the precise spice level you are seeking. I'm always on the lookout for a good Tom Yum Noodle soup. I ordered the Traditional Tom Yum Noodles and oyster appetizers. The oysters were fresh and tasty, with a savory and crunchy sauce on top. The Tom Yum noodles were a slight disappointment though. The broth was good to solid, not the best I've had but decent flavor overall. Ingredients were OK. They didn't ask what spice level. But the portion size left a lot to be desired. It was probably enough to not get overstuffed, but at $19 a bowl, it just didn't feel like a good value. I think they could easily remedy this by using a larger bowl and adding some soup and additional garnish. As is, the value just isn't there. read more
