    Khao Soi

Newish Thai restaurant that opened in the last year. It's a big space and seems like it could hold large parties quite well. There is also a bar and an outdoor seating area. I tried the Khao Soi noodle soup and really liked it. I got mild spicy and thought that was good enough for me for a bit of a kick but not too spicy. I liked the flavor and the egg (?) noodles were good. I liked the chopped onions in the soup too. There was one chicken leg (not a ton of meat) but it was tasty. I love this dish and would get it again! Service was nice and friendly.

The Pad Thai here was delicious, with the perfect flavor. Our food took a little while to come out for our table, but it was worth the wait. The restaurant itself is really nice, modern, pretty big, and I love the open concept at the entrance. The servers were extremely kind and accommodating, which made the dining experience even better. I ordered oysters during happy hour ($1.50 ea) and I thought it was cool that there was no minimum; you could order as little as one. I got three, and they came without lemon, which is usually my favorite part. The oysters had their own sauce already added, so it was a new taste and experience I enjoyed. I also tried the mango sticky rice, and it was really good. The mangoes weren't super ripe when I visited in February, but the rice was sweet and a little stickier than usual, which balanced the slightly tart mango perfectly. I also loved that the tofu in the pad Thai was soft, not thick or firm, so if you like softer tofu, you'll enjoy it. Overall, really tasty food, great service, and a nice space.

3.5 Stars rounded up. Overall, we were glad we tried this place; though, I don't see us actively returning. The food was beautifully presented & service was great; however, the food was underwhelming (taste & portion-wise), considering the price we paid. -------- FOOD: APPETIZERS: We really liked the meatballs. The fried tofu was just okay. My husband and friend enjoyed the oysters. MAIN: I got the Traditional Tom Yum Noodle. The soup had great flavor; however, there was so little soup. The portion was just so small for close to $20. My noodles were also on the softer side. My husband got the Khao Soi and he said it was just okay bc it didn't have a rich flavor and the noodles were also too soft. SERVICE: Service was great. We had our waters filled and we got our food in a quick, timely manner after ordering. Everyone was friendly. AMBIANCE: Very modern and beautiful inside. Gives more upscale vibes.

First off, food and flavor was amazing! Portion sizes are small for the price but delicious nonetheless. Pork belly was juicy and crispy and that sauce is the cherry on top. Honestly food tasted incredible and we'd definitely come back. Service was fast and very kind. Very fancy Thai restaurant vibes.

Glad to have finally checked this place out! Nice ambiance/decor, lots of nice seating, cute decor for halloween. Nice bar area. Interesting menu with cool drinks! Price is also very reasonable. They also have great happy hour deals! Drinks we tried: - Tom yum marg - Tiger punch - Chiang Mai Tai They were interesting and def have a kick. The one my bf ordered (tom yum marg) that I was skeptical about ended up being the one I liked the most. Would love to try Mango Guy next time (for the can/pic too) Food: - 8 oysters : They were presented nicely and super tasty, spicy, sweet, and crispy. - Pad thai with crispy pork belly : Good portion and def satisfied my pad thai cravings. I love when places have crispy pork belly as an option. - Thai boat noodle sop with beef: Reminds me of pho, but more concentrated and sweeter? I only had it at one other place before, so I'm not an expert. But my bf enjoyed it. - Mango sticky rice: Nice way to end off the meal! Overall, great environment, friendly staff, and food was great. Def recommend checking them out!

A cool and relatively new Thai place in San Carlos downtown! We stopped here for lunch after farmers market one day and were really impressed with the tasty food and modern ambiance. Will be returning!

Great ambiance and modern Thai decor. Food was great, but could use just a bit more flavor. Service was great and the server guided me through the menu. The Tom Yum Marg is the drink to get!

Chic ambiance with great staff, food, and drinks! We enjoyed the happy hour pricing on the oysters (tasty garnish) and beef jerky (of the warm variety). We also got the Chicken Thighs (delicious dipping sauce) and Brothless Egg Noodle with pork and bok choy (smaller portion but it works out with all the appetizers! Comes with a small bowl of broth; wish there was also a sauce to drizzle). The Tom Yum Marg and Mango Guy were also delicious cocktails. I would totally come back for happy hour to meet friends, a small group, or with a date.

Very nice location in downtown San Carlos. The restaurant was super spacious and the decor was well thought out. Service was nice, but it was a bit odd that my appetizer and entree came out a few minutes apart. Tom yum margarita was just ok. Didn't really taste the sweet and sour I was expecting. The food is expensive for what you get. Beef tartare was small, especially since you are paying $30. Both noodle bowls were tiny. They were good though! Would recommend the Thai boat noodle over the khoi soi. Both had a nice kick to it. There was just not enough food, it's almost a sample size.

3.5 STARS Thai Boat Noodles on Laurel Street?! Now that's a BOLD move so I'm here for it. The broth is made from beef or pork blood which creates that deep rich brown hue and is packed with strong complex flavors. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it's hard to find a solid bowl of boat noodles once you leave the TL in the city until you hit Man Jose (I haven't tried any in the East Bay). Soft opening last Monday, Sen Thai Noodle took over Patxi's. Open for takeout, indoor dining, and outdoor dining. On the way back to the city, we stopped by for an early dinner (no wait). M E N U Small, concise menu with less than 20 items: Crudo, apps, grilled meats, rice bowls, and noodles. Full bar. F O O D It's the soft opening so this is just feedback. * Salmon Zapp w/ Thai chili, fish sauce, palm sugar, mint, lime juice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/jdbvuh55 Smooth, buttery raw salmon dressed in a tangy, citrusy sauce. Not spicy. * Kor Moo Yang: Pork Jowl ($21): https://tinyurl.com/4tx6dkrk Lean, on the drier side for this usually richly marbled cut. The accompanying nam jim jeaw was savory and tangy but didn't pack the punch I was hoping for. * Tiger Crying [Beef] Rice Bowl w/ garlic fried rice ($22): https://tinyurl.com/5n7ymcfs Small portion of tender, marinated skirt steak but I wouldn't have guessed it was crying tiger (suea rong hai). I think they forgot to drizzle the nam jim jaew to give the distinctive spicy, tangy, and umami flavors it usually has. Served over a large portion of garlic rice with little garlic flavor. * Boat Noodle Soup w/ braised meat, sliced pork, meatballs ($19): https://tinyurl.com/42m64puf Boat noodles originated from Chinese workers constructing the canals in Thailand. Vendors would sell them from floating markets (boats) and has since become a Thai street food staple. Typically served in small bowls to avoid spills and so you can order multiple from various vendors. - Broth: Lighter consistency than the traditional (light on the blood) and runs too sweet. Didn't get quite get the complex spicy, sour, and herbaceous notes. - Proteins: Super tender pork shoulder (?), rich pork cracklings, and pork (?) meat balls. No traditional offal available. - Noodles: The rice noodles were clumped into one mass so it took some effort to unravel. While traditional that it was served in a small bowl, the price was very steep for the portion. Def need to order an app to leave somewhat full. S E R V I C E Super friendly and welcoming staff. We dined around 5 pm over the weekend and food quickly came out. A M B I A N C E Trendy, sleek, and spacious dining room with black marble tables and pendant globe lights. Covered patio with an indoor/outdoor bar with TVs for watching the game. Overall, decent Thai food with premium pricing for small entree portions. I like bold in your face Thai flavors and found the flavors quite muted here (kinda expected for the area tho). Sen Thai seems like a good option for those who prefer milder flavors. 3.5 stars rounded up for the soft opening.

Went to this new spot last night with a group of friends. Honestly, the best part of the evening was the company. We were all excited to try this place, especially since "noodle" is in the name, but the food didn't really live up to expectations. We started with a few appetizers, which came out on very small plates. They felt more like single servings than something you'd share with the table. Not ideal when you're with a group. For our mains, we all ordered noodle dishes, assuming that would be the restaurant's strong suit. When the first bowl hit the table, we all let out a surprised "wow"--not because it looked amazing, but because it was honestly tiny. It felt more like a child's portion than a $22 entree. I know dining out in the Bay Area can get pricey, but this felt a bit over the top. Flavor-wise, it was... fine. Nothing terrible, just not memorable. It reminded me of something I might make at home when I'm tired and working with whatever's in the fridge. One of my friends is an incredible cook and makes unbelievable pho, and she barely touched her bowl. That kind of said it all. I did have a cocktail, and to be fair, it was pretty good. But at $17, it was still a bit above the already-high local average. In the end, I left full (barely) but mostly disappointed, especially with how much we paid--about $110 per couple. Not somewhere I'd return to, and I wouldn't recommend it unless they make some serious changes! Add one star for all of the nice and friendly servers!

Food was amazing and very authentic! The service was absolutely amazing, everyone was very attentive and polite!! The restaurant was very upscale and was a very comfortable environment to be in!!

The honey mint mojito came in a cute bear glass and was just the right amount of rum, a little tarty but once watered down was good. So, I asked what my options were and it ended up being salad or surf and turf. My husband and I decided to share the $60 surf and turf and it was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. The one thing that was the most disappointing was the $12 Italian soda. It was just not good...
