I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Burma Spice. We order takeout/delivery from here all the time, and it's always impressively quick and tasty. We decided to dine in this time, and they weren't busy at all on a Friday (early) evening. We were seated at a comfortable booth across from the colorful wall mural. I've tried a good portion of the menu at this point and enjoy the Sesame Chicken, Palata with Chicken, and Mango Shrimp. My partner is obsessed with the Burmese Chow Mein and Black Pepper Chicken. This time, I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice with shrimp, which was pretty basic but expectedly tasty and filling. Service was quick and friendly! We love Burmese food. For years, if we wanted Burmese food, we would have to drive at least 30-40 min to SF or South Bay, so having Burma Spice in our neighborhood is a dream come true! Burma Spice hosted our daughter's high school graduation luncheon on May 23rd and we couldn't have been happier! We had about 30 guests in a separate area in the back of the restaurant. Kham and Raymond were so nice and helpful in planning the menu for our gathering. Everything was served family style. We ordered - Tea Leaf Salad- the perfect ratio of fermented tea leaves and ingrediants. - Samosas- light, crispy, and so flavorful - Nan Gyi Thoke- the noodles were perfectly cooked, not mushy, and the curry was creamy and delightful. - Basil Lemongrass Chicken- fresh basil, and lemongrass really made this dish a popular topic. - Pumpkin Veggie- Nice ratio of pumpkin and other veggies, very hearty. - Kebat Lamb- savory, packed full of rich spices, the onions add so much texture and flavor as well. - Jasmine Rice Plus plenty of yummy tropical cocktails for the adults. They set up a little table for the cake, and some graduation items that we brought. They really went out of their way to make our celebration comfortable. Everything was in generous portions, fresh and expertly prepared. My guests raved about the food and service. Some of my guests had never tried Burmese food before and now in their meal rotation. We didn't realize that we had stretched into their rest period between lunch and dinner because they were so gracious about not rushing us. We came here with a large party of 12, and they were able to accommodate our reservation with no issues. I hadn't been here before, but the menu looked suspiciously similar to Burma Taste in Sunnyvale, which I've dined at a few years ago. We ordered everything family-style. Stopped by on a Saturday evening and found it surprisingly slow for such a well-rated restaurant. We were seated quickly by the attentive and friendly staff. The mango chicken was very, very good. A nice balance of sweet and spicy. The coconut rice was a perfect accompaniment. We were disappointed though by the tea leaf salad. It was a little bitter and didn't have much flavor. The experience dining here began with the refreshing cool cucumber water! It was made excellent by the great customer service. Our water was always full, and with how quickly our meals came out. My husband's kebat lamb was fork tender and flavorful, and my chicken was no less than a punch of flavor. Both dishes were extremely flavorful and delicious. The food was so fresh and we were left in such a happy food coma place without the sleepiness. This meal was fairly healthy and filling! Each entree is enough for two having a light dinner. Amazing service. They were on the refills like a Michelin star restaurant. Food came out blazing fast. We literally ordered and next thing you know the dishes were out! It was the right amount of saltiness and it wasn't super super strong. My spouse said this is one of the better tea leaf salads that we have tried in the area. I tried a coconut curry chicken dish and thought it was fine. Flavor was good, but the dish was only chicken curry (sauce) but no vegetables or any other thing inside the dish. If you were expecting only 3 shrimp and all eggplant then maybe you will like more. The Burma house noodles were too sweet and funky for my family and my taste, not savory enough or nutty enough (it did reheat better the next day and somehow tasted a bit better). Tea leaf salad was decent, nothing wow about it, probably from a decent quality salad kit if I had to guess. Especially considering how quickly the two we ordered came out. This was a 3.5 for me. Went there for a group lunch on a Sunday. Had some hits and some "eh, alright" moments. Tea leaf salad and the basil swai were the clear wins--fresh, bright, and easy to like. Nan gyi dok was just okay, and the chicken leaned dry and shredded instead of tender. Mo hing ga and coconut curry noodle were just ok as well. Service had a couple odd beats: someone in our group asked for more warm water and only their glass got refilled, even though the rest of us were sitting there with empty cups. Super solid, flavorful Burmese food! With the amount of dishes we ordered, here are my descriptions of each. The tea leaf salad was very tasty, similar recipe to other tea leaf salads in the bay area. Tangy, zesty, salty, refreshing, crunchy, nutty, and light. Great amount of toppings on each one, you can also sub the lettuce out for cabbage, and just as tasty on the next day. Apparently, my bay area natives said this tea leaf salad tastes exactly like the rest of them. Samosas were my favorite. Thin wrapping, flavorful and soft pillowy filling. Sweet and sour sauce made it burst with flavor and I really enjoyed this. I would go again for their samosas because a lot of places have a wrapping thats too thick, the edges are rock hard, but this place..... so good. Even after 30 Fiery lamb was mild, but what it lacked in spiciness, TENDERNESS REALLY HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK. Onions paired well with it but I was expecting more of a portion for over $20... The kebat swai was yummy but honestly way too salty for me... it was the main flavor I got from it. It was everyone else's favorite but they agreed it was salty. I enjoyed the beef curry as well, the flavor was on point but we collectively agreed that the beef was on the dry side... sadly The warm welcome of the FOH was awesome, super cheerful and helpful. He greeted me with such friendliness that I would totally dine in here. The shop itself is adorable on the outside and very spotless on the inside. Walking in, I made sure to get a whiff of their food, and it was very fragrant. Bay area prices are so high and this one is no exception. Unfortunately that raises the expectation of the food drastically, especially if a place is yummy but misses a few marks for being so expensive. I went to Burma spice on a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy and we got a table easily. It's in a quiet neighborhood of RWC and parking was easy. It's on the pricier side. This place is a sister restaurant to Burma taste and choice (South Bay). We love going to those places. The quality was the same, tea leaf salad was fresh and well done. The minty jalapeño chicken is my fav dish on the menu and lived up to the expectations. The Khao soi was decent, the boiled egg that it came with was grey, that weirded us out. We've ordered takeout from here a few times before and ate at the restaurant for the first time tonight. Service was impeccable and food came out quickly, piping hot, and delicious! One of my toddlers gobbled up half an order of garlic noodles on his own. Dining in is family friendly with high chairs, paper plates, disposable utensils, and plastic water cups with plastic straws for littles. (Don't @ me about the straws unless you also have small kids because paper just doesn't cut it for my chewmonsters.) Can't go wrong with the Nan Gyi Thoke here! Creamy and tasty. Though most of the chicken has the flavor, the noodles are dense and a good texture. I also recommend the Sesame Chicken! After he told us he only had hot water and tap water, we asked him to mix the two. We asked him to put half hot water and half tap water into the same glass so as it make warm, sippable water (to soothe a sore throat.) Started with the Tea Leaf salad which they mixed at our table. Then the samosas which were served piping hot and crispy. The salt and pepper chicken were also hot and crispy. We also ordered the Ohn Noe Kout Swel and a bowl of coconut rice. Everything had good flavor and service was good in that they ensured our water glasses were full and checked on us often. Good food. Came here Monday night after looking at Christmas lights in San Carlos! My sister & her husband recommended this Burmese spot and it did not disappoint! They are similar to Burma Superstar in SF I'd say. Parking is easy to find since it's a small plaza. We got seated right away for a table of 6. (4 adults, 2 babies) What we ordered: Samosas: Yummy appetizer! It's filled with some potatoes and veggies! Lots of flavor and the special sauce was delicious! I've never had a bad dish here. The tea leaf salad is so good and chock full of flavorful, crunchy, delightful things. The eggplant we got was also insanely flavorful and well-seasoned, and I would get this again in a heartbeat. The minty jalapeno chicken made me want to try to recreate this dish at home. I love anything with mint in it, and I love anything with jalapenos in it. Put them together, and it's a combo made in heaven. The spring rolls were also very good, but pretty standard, so it's not a must-try, but they're great if you're craving something deep fried and crispy. Omg, the coconut rice. I'd never really had coconut rice like this before despite growing up around Asian food, and I've had dreams about eating this again. We doordashed everything for our most recent meal and even though quality can sometimes suffer when you're having something delivered (or even when you're getting takeout), every dish was so incredible. Our first time here! The samosas were amazing had amazing flavor and would definitely order again. The string beings had delicious garlic flavor and were nice and crunchy. The noodles were a little too sweet and we ordered it with shrimp per the servers recommendation and they tasted mid; not sure if I would order again. The salt and pepper fried chicken was actually pretty good and had an amazing garlic flavor as well. The restaurant was clean. Had a lot of open seating inside. I would skip personally. There were plenty of seats but no one seated is for a while -- they didn't want to give us a 4 seat booth and made us wait to see if a two seat table would open up. We ordered the Tea Leaf Salad, Pork Pumpkin Stew, Nan Gyi Thoke, and a side of Biryani rice. Our food came out in a timely manner. The waiter mixed the Tea Leaf Salad and Nan Gyi Thoke for us. The fried yellow beans and fried garlic chips added an extra crunch to the Tea Leaf Salad. The pork chunks in the Pork Pumpkin Stew were tender. The pumpkin chucks weren't overcooked. The coconut chicken curry sauce for the Nan Gyi Thoke was pretty flavorful. During our meal, the waiter checked up on us. We enjoyed all the food that we ordered and the prices are fairly reasonable. Burma Spice has been on rotation lately because everything is flavorful and cooked well. I've had the Tea Leaf Salad, Eggplant Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, Fiery Tofu with Beef, Garlic Noodles, and Fiery Chicken. The atmosphere is comfortable for a casual drop in or a nicer dinner and conversation doesn't compete with a noise level. There are TVs, so maybe that changes if there's a big game on but hasn't been the case the e multiple times I've been. My only nit is that the service is a tad slow. Friendly, but not on an expected cadence. It's getting better, so maybe as a newer restaurant they're fine-tuning the training or they're finding their rhythm.
