It feels much more spacious and creative than other DIY spots we've visited. We've since gone back for camps and casual weekend visits, and she always finds something new she wants to make. The custom comic book and stuffie stations are especially fun and unique. The staff has also been consistently kind, patient, and helpful every time we've been there. Such a fun place for creative kids.

On a Friday I called ahead to check and see if there were any openings and was pleasantly surprised that they did! Color Me Mine Sunnyvale has a vast selection of different pieces that you can make! I chose to paint my dog and my girlfriend chose to do a vase! My recommendation would be if you're new to painting, choose something with a shape i.e. a dog, lucky cat, or garden gnome. This makes it easier and takes the stress away of creating something completely original. If you're looking to be more creative and have more time and experience, try creating something original on a simple solid piece such as a plate, mug, jewelry box, etc. Paint options here are awesome! There is a stone tablet that shows how all the colors will appear after glazing as well! The turnaround time is quite short only 1 week. (We're still waiting for ours lol) My one gripe is that the brushes here are incredibly worn out. It's hard to get good details when the brushes aren't good quality. Overall an incredibly fun experience and we look forward to seeing our pieces finished!

Not only did I leave the studio a glowing review (see below for first picture I took there, 5 star review since deleted), I gave her insight into the local LADS community because I believed that her space could be used for events. At the time, my team and I were planning our first LADS event and I DM'd the studio a few days after my visit to set up a business connection. Whoever responded said they're not involved in the company's marketing decisions. Understandable, but they did not pass me along to someone who was nor did they respond to my final message. I suspect it was Kawa behind the screen because she was actively making content and monitoring the studio's social media page the entirety of my visit. Moving along to Summer 2026. Kawaii DIY is pumping out LADS events that include cosplayers. For the one themed after the game's "Spring & Flowers" banner, I commented under the "featured cosplayer" post of the cosplayer friend I was planning to support the day of, suggesting that the studio choose a photo where their face/hair and makeup were clearly visible considering they work so hard on their cosplay for next time. The post was published late at night, around 11pm, which leads me to believe the studio was rushing, so I wasn't harsh in my critique at all. I received no response. The following morning after that featured post was published, my best friend and I came to the studio to support our cosplay friend. We did not plan on participating in the deco so we did not make an RSVP for it. At the time, my friend (cosplayer) was not busy so we stayed to take pictures with them at the backdrop, part of the draw for the event. Kawa was helping the other guests, but another person, who I can only assume is her mother, kept circling the three of us looking unhappy. At one point, she asked my best friend if she had made an RSVP for deco. She said no, just the mini art market. Instead of welcoming us anyway, having us leave, or explaining the rules, the mother simply walked away. Immediately, there was an air of hostility. We browsed the mini art market as potential customers, so we had every right to be there. I encourage you to look through your camera recordings to verify our presence, as you often do anyway for customers who leave a negative review (which is also within their right). It'll be the last time you'll see us there. At this point in time, my team's social media page is doing well. We enjoy promoting local LADS events and cosplayers. On behalf of my team, I posted a story group picture with the volunteer cosplayers that included the studio's name. I did not actually tag them because it was not required to tag them at the time, and I felt that the mother was rude. On my own page, I posted a reel promoting my cosplayer friend as they are still new to the space. Once again, I did not tag the studio for the aforementioned reasons. A few days later, Kawaii DIY Studio published a post about their policies. This included making RSVPs in advance and crediting them for their work through tags that needed to be pre-approved. It is their business, their rules. But the guidelines felt strict and the wording was very passionate in comparison to their older posts. Multiple LADS community members reached out to me deducing that the new guidelines were written because of my actions. I have stayed silent for a long time because I do want a woman-owned business to succeed and think that Kawaii DIY does bring charm to the Bay Area. However, it's recently come to my attention that they've taken down all of their featured cosplayer posts and speak ill of them behind their backs despite them volunteering their time to cultivate an immersive experience. They've also blocked me and my team on social media when our prior suggestions have been constructive, not harmful. LADS players, please continue to do whatever makes you happy especially during such a tumultuous time for us. I just urge you to do your research before giving your money and time. Note the expedited rate at which the studio's events are created, the value of the goods sold, and their responses to any kind of constructive criticism. Do not attack the studio and reach out to me directly if you have follow up questions. Kawa, if you're reading this, I really hoped that we could be friends because it seemed that we hit it off the first time we met. I'm sad it's come to this, but I do not appreciate the unprofessionalism. Please learn from this. As a LADS player yourself, you should know that the community deserves better.

Me and my friend had an absolute blast at this little studio. We attended the ice cube pop bean workshop, where we created little platforms made of ice cubes with cute little figurines on top. The workshop was very affordable given the amount of time we were there for and the variety of decorations we could choose from. The workshop instructor (also one of the owners) walked us through a concise tutorial on how to create our little creations. Picking out the colors of cubes and the figurines was the funnest part. The staff walked me through the tufting process and showed me examples of how to tuft properly and efficiently. I even carried a can of Diet Coke to the session as inspiration for my mini rug. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and they helped trim and flatten the rug at the end. I also got to make a picture frame using decoden art - picking out my favorite charms and decorating the frame one by one. As you can tell, I chose food- and toy-themed charms to reflect my hobbies. It's such a great idea for date nights, birthday parties, team-building events, or family activities. Especially if you've never tried it before, it's easy to pick up and a lot of fun!

After we finished tufting, it took them about an hour to finish them off and we were able to take them home the same day. We also did decoden, which was fun! I was impressed by the charm collection, but it was very hard to find letter charms since they were all mixed up and scarce. Overall, the crafts turned out great, just disappointed by the service. I understand that it was a weekend evening and it wasn't the staff's fault, they were all very kind and understanding. Just understaffed! With tufting especially, having more staff available to help throughout the process if needed would make this experience much more enjoyable.

As you walk up to the storefront, you'll see through the clear glass windows a plethora of colors and patterns with some sample quilts hanging out for display. Step foot through the doors and you'll be sent into a world of fabrics infused with aisles of colors, textures, accessories, and resources to help level up your quilting skills. And within a few minutes, we were greeted by their staff to provide any guidance or assistance navigating their wares. We were only browsing on this occasion but for those in search of quilting accessories, this is a haven with a variety of fabrics for you to choose from in order to piece together the next masterpiece. We spent a good 15 minutes just perusing the store and all the knickknacks that were available. The samples hanging on the walls were inspiring! The prices seemed reasonable and with the raw materials being affordable and accessible for making such beautiful pieces of art is probably a good reason this hobby still exists. I think what stands out is the quality of the fabrics as the texture and feel of them definitely seem more durable and sustainable than what you'd get through an online store. Overall, The Granary Quilt Shop keeps the quilting community thriving with their shelves full of fabrics and quilting accessories. The team members here are seasoned vets in the hobby and are extremely friendly to support your quilt making needs. A specialty shop with a brick and mortar presence is a fading trend but this shop has clearly made its mark, has a good following among its local community members, and continues to bring in new customers with sales and family activities.
