What a education! I narrowed down my list to three, in my researching I learned a lot of companies don't hire their own staff, there is not training and there is no state oversight. Once I learned this I choose 3 and met with each company, interviewed caregivers and we made our decision. They have been in business for over 25 years, they are licensed with the State and we have a nurse supervisor to count on if and when we need additional help or support. We chose LifeStyle Options because, they were professional on the phone, they sent out a nurse to assess my father, (free of charge) and developed a plan that both my parents could agree to. That isn't always easy. We have had care for over 3 months now and Dad and Mom are both happy, Dad is recovering nicely and it takes the anxiety off my parents and family to know that someone is showing up each day to assist my parents. It has been a very good experience and I would recommend LifeStyle Options, Inc. to anyone who is seeking help and companionship for their family, themselves or friends. My mom lives in the Northwest Suburbs and we finally decided that she could no longer "do it…read morealone". We had gone through a lot with my dad before he passed away and so we knew what we wanted and what we didn't. Unfortunately, the informal network we used for my dad didn't have women caregivers so we were back to to square one. After doing a lot of research with the local senior center and online we called For Papa's Sake, which is based out of the town next to where my mom lives. From the very first phone call I suspected we had gotten lucky. After a couple of calls and some group discussion between me, my mom and a For Papa's Sake senior person we decided we'd try them out. And am I glad we did. They listened to my mom's and my requests, likes, dislikes, deal-breakers etc. and they never batted an eye. They did say it might take a bit longer than usual (given our needs) to find the right care giver, but they called back in less than 5 days and we had a care giver within 10 days to 2 weeks of that 1st main discussion. That care giver has worked out so well. It has really improved our lives and I can go days without worrying about my mom...what a relief. That's what For Papa's Sake provides: relief! If you are looking for an alternative to a nursing home or aged care facility or whatever you want to call it, For Papa's Sake really cares and I would encourage you to give them a call. They have worked out great for us and I would not recommend them for something so important if they weren't doing a great job.

If you state you know "all about xyz", then you should understand all that comes with it, right? There should be no shock, right? Their staff is unfamiliar with the disease, cannot handle their residents, and then you're left trying to find somewhere else that IS fit. And we sure did. So perhaps I should count my blessings? I think so!

My mother is at Lee Manor now receiving care. My family's experience has been a mix of good but…read moremostly bad. The first month my mother was at Lee Manor, she was on the 1st floor. This floor is clean and welcoming it is staff appropriate number of residents to staff for the most part. She was later moved to the 4th floor due to her medical coverage would no longer cover 1st floor care. My mom was sent to Medicaid floor. Our family understood as we didn't have the money to cover the co-pay $$$$for 1st floor. The 4th floor is dirty, and smells of urine and poop once you step out of the elevator. Residents are left in dinning hall for hours at a time. Some are slouched over in tables asleep or falling out of chairs. When my mom presses the call button it can take up to 2 and a half hours for a response from staff. Staff can be rude and incentive. We have to be present to get my mom the attention she needs and physical go get a CNA or nurse to assist with care after an hour of having pressed call button. I do not recommend this facility for your loved one's unless.... They are getting care or residency on the 1st floor.

My husband was transferred from Lutheran General to Lee Manor for rehab. for 2 weeks…read more He stayed on the 1st floor and he was alone in his room. We liked the fact that the place was clean, it didn't smell of urine at all, his room was clean ,the cleaning crew came daily to pick up the garbage ,change the sheets and cleaned his room several times a week as well as his bathroom. We also liked the fact that he was picked up 5 days a week to the exercise room to work on his major problems. They also gave him a bath twice a week. The entire staff was very nice and helpful, both medical and office. I don't know what's going on the other floors or the long term care situations? I can only emphasis on our experience. Yes, the food could be a little better and the response when one press the call button could improve!

I spent many hours keeping Mom company in her room, and every single interaction I overheard between staff and residents was kind, gentle and respectful. Every staff member is helpful, regardless of whether the current need is in their job description. All laundry is done daily, and the facility is always sparkly clean. The compassion we experienced was infinitely superior to nearly every setting we've encountered in life; I felt so cared for even in our initial admission meeting. So very thankful God brought my mom to Highland Oaks.
