I did a phone order. I arrived and my food wasn't ready. I had to wait 15 minutes give or take. While waiting I asked for extra hot sauce red and green. Once I finally got my food I left right away it was a little late. I just worked 10 plus hour shift. I live less than 5 minutes away. They gave me one green one red sauce. I ordered two burritos and a plate of food. The chicken in the burrito was dry and hard. The plate of food was cold. Very disappointing. I spent $46 for three people to eat. Been here at least 50 times over the last 12-13 years. Have always had a good experience until tonight. We ended up with the one server who would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. The food took longer to come out than we've ever experienced, and once we finished, we waited a solid 10 minutes before he appeared and we asked for a box. Another 10 minutes went by without him reappearing, so I walked to the back and asked a member of the kitchen staff for a box. We still hadn't received our check so we walked to the front register and stood there for another 3-4 minutes before our guy appeared from the back and came up to check us out. Keep in mind this was a Monday night, we were a party of two, and the other servers/food runners were hustling their tails off, as usual. The servers are typically absent and when one finally stops by your table they are rude and act as if you are disrupting them. We constantly have to flag someone walking by down to ask for refills, boxes, the check, you name it. The food is decent but you can get better food and service if you go up to Franklin. So I'm not sure how I missed reviewing this place before as it was the first restaurant I ate at when I began spending much time on this side of the county and I've eaten here several times. It has been awhile and the last few times of eaten Mexican food in Portland it's been at their competior's place. Anyway--I'm glad I remembered to check in and review this place after our recent meal because it was excellent and exceeded expectations. The main reason it exceeded expectations? I had no idea they had REAL tacos on their menu as part of their "Mexican specialties" mini-menu. I've eaten at most Mexican restaurants in Sumner County and Nashville and I can count on one hand the number of them that do real tacos. What I mean by real (for me) is you at least get the option of al pastor as your meat--serve it on a flat soft corn tortilla with some fresh toppings and you're eating a real taco. So yeah, the pastor tacos were delicious. Coupled with beans, rice and cheese, fresh avocado, some top-notch house made hot sauce that actually brought the heat, a giant burrito for my dining companion and some fairly decent margaritas and a good time was had by all. Friendly service helped as well. Only thing that could've knocked this up to 5 stars would have been if the starter tortilla chips had been hot and fresh and the salsa had had a little more flavor. read more

Started off with some guacamole with our chips & salsa and was pretty underwhelmed... then the food showed up and banished our doubts. Had Combo #12 and the tamale & chilireeno where terrific. My daughter accidentally knocked her drink over into her food. We asked for a replacement and they did replace the plate. What they did not do was tell us we would be charged for another meal. Instead we were told that it's not their fault she had a accident (By the manager) and there is nothing they will do. Definitely will go elsewhere for now on. read more

I have been to many Mexican restaurants in my lifetime, but this one means a lot to me. Not only is it a great restaurant, It is one of the friendliest places that I have ever been in on this Earth. And guess what? The food is out of this world. Me and my wife have eaten tacos all throughout the Southeastern United States, but none of them can even compare to the Calle Tacos at Senor Fajitas. This review is for the Orlinda location. The food has been hit or miss on quality and taste for several months. Yesterday our food was drowned in cheese sauce (two entrees) and another entree was missing cheese altogether. We decided to just eat it anyway, since we had gotten take out. Then some of the shrimp in one entree still had the tails on it -I discovered after biting into it, since you couldn't tell for all the cheese sauce! When I called, the manager said basically there was nothing she would do about it since we had ate some of it. Sorry, but I am not going to open every dish and inspect it before leaving a restaurant to be sure they got it correct. This is not the first time the food quality was subpar there either, but it will be the last time for me. read more

I've been going here since I discovered the place a few years ago. Every time it's great. Admittedly the only thing I ever get is the Chori Pollo. Sometimes I feel they don't put enough of the queso sauce on it, and other times I feel like there's not enough chorizo, but in spite of that it's always great. My brother always gets their burrito, which if memory serves is quite sizable. He raves about it every time, so I'm assuming it must be good! I love their chips and salsa. I could make a meal out of those. The salsa has a great flavor, and has just enough bite on it to let you know it's there, but it's not overpowering at all. Piss poor customer service. I've been here several times, and the food has always been delicious, however, on three occasions, my wife and I have been completely forgotten. Tonight, there were only three tables occupied when we arrived. We were seated, given chips and salsa, and then waited for twenty-five minutes to be addressed. My wife and I each had to use the restroom, and I noticed all the waiters were sitting on the other side of the barrier watching the presidential debate. It was only after another host went to clean a nearby table that we were noticed. I don't plan to return here again. From what I have heard from several Portland residents, El Azteca just down the street has better service and atmosphere, and a few have said better food. read more

This is, by far, the best Mexican restaurant in the area, if not the actual best I've been to anywhere in the US. It all begins with the bright and colorfully decorated interior. Once you step into the restaurant you instantly feel happy and ready for a fiesta! The service is very friendly. The hosts and servers always greet the guests with a smile and the delivery of the food is timely and prompt. The thing that best sets this place apart, however, is the quality of the food. Many Mexican restaurants in the area obviously use cheap, low-grade and not fresh ingredients. Here, the food tastes so fresh and absolutely delicious. I always order the vegetarian fajitas. They are to die for. Most Mexican restaurants will just serve soggy and oily peppers, onions, and tomatoes on a cast-iron fajita plate. Here, however, the variety of veggies is incredible -- mushrooms, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, fresh spinach.... Simply amazing. Even better, they are served sizzling and still have a great fresh crisp consistency; perfectly cooked. And, unlike other places, the fajitas aren't swimming in a fatty, oily mess. I just can't express how much I love these. I could eat this dish every day. My dad also loves this place. He usually orders and enjoys the shrimp Diablo or the shrimp chimichangas. He said they are both incredibly delicious. He and I agree that the food here is unmatched. We are so fortunate to have such a high quality restaurant in little Portland, TN. Why go elsewhere when the food is really good, the service is good and the place is clean? My wife and I have been here a few dozen times and only once was there a miscomunication between the waiter and myself and they made it right right away! It took a few minutes for someone to greet us (please wait to be seated) and we were finally told by the cashier to go sit down in the corner. It took another 10 minutes before our actual server came over. I ordered the lunch cheese quesadilla which probably was a mistake to begin with because you get what you pay for. It was the same size as my daughter's kid's meal. It was not very good. The guacamole was very bland. They charged $3.99 for 2 oz of mashed up avocado. This is a fairly new place in the strip mall close to H G Hill. The decor is colorful and fresh and lively. The vegetarian options are pretty decent and quite tasty. Prices are good and, according to my flan conniseur wife, the flan is "very good". If you don't see an option on the menu, just ask and they will make it like they made my 10" spinach & mushroom quesadilla or my wife's cheese and mushroom quesadilla. In general, a good place to eat at and return to. Our daughter and son-in-law treated us and we observed the non-vegetarian plates they ordered.
