Went to dinner here last night with a friend before a show at The Temple Theater. This is probably the 10th time I have been here since moving to the area in April. The food and service have been excellent every time! I've recently gone mostly Vegan and they have a Garden Burrito on the menu that is amazing! Their chips are warm and salsa is fresh and delicious. Sadly, horrible service. Food is mid at best...But the last time we came in we decided it was our last after what happened, considering service isn't great usually anyway. The server didn't understand what we were trying to order, proceeded to get very openly annoyed/angry and was very quickly taking our menus and walking away WHILE we were still trying to talk to him and tell him what we wanted...I understand we all have bad days but there's still a level of respect I think you should maintain. Needless to say we were absolutely at loss for words and decided that was the last time we'd be there. read more

Went here for dinner after a day of yard work. We missed happy hour by 25 min, kind of a bummer. We split the fajitas. The chorizo was a nice touch but the "sizzling" plate was no where near hot. The rice/bean and cool sides arrived after on the Luke warm side and the w tore meal was bland. We brought the kids and they got their food food first. This was a nice touch, however they finished before us, so we had to inhale the rest of our dinner because ours came out in parts. The service was decent but not very welcoming. I'm giving it 2 stars only because it was close to home and filled out belly's. The place was pretty busy, so people like it, but I don't plan on returning. read more

First off--when we asked for hot sauce we got two different house made kinds for free and both brought the heat with flavor. That was a good sign. The menu offers some interesting choices including several American or Americanized ones so if you're looking for "authentic" traditional Mexican food you might not find it but you will find good small town Mexican restaurant food. The chips and salsa were fresh and the salsa has great flavor. The nachos I ordered with chorizo, bean, cheese and pico were some of the best nachos I've had in a restaurant like this. This place is a little far off of Interstate 65, but well worth it for the small-town atmosphere and the awesome margaritas! First of all, the restaurant is located on an old Western Street next to a railroad line. Bonus points for not being in a strip mall somewhere. The decor is lively, the music and atmosphere are authentic, it's got a super cool looking bar and the service is awesome. I ordered the Lemon Pepper Tilapia, which came with rice and avocado salad plus tortillas. The tilapia was amazing, tender, and flavorful. The rice and salad was wonderful as well. You can chalk this one up to "happy accident" as I was actually planning on hitting another restaurant up the highway in Franklin, KY. Having missed my exit, I opted for the next place that Yelp found. Well, hello happy serendipity, maybe I'll just aim for this place next. The margaritas and food are pretty awesome and I love the atmosphere. Score! read more

First off... our male server didn't know much, then another female server came back to reconfirm our order with her 2 yr old son yelling at her then she got my order wrong. I asked for enchiladas and I got carne asada and rice and beans. Wrong. So I bit the bullet and didn't want to wait for my enchiladas and I ate it. I didn't get one visit back from either server and the female server walked right by us and left holding her sons hand. Wow. No water refills, no hot sauce, no "I'm sorry your order was wrong but how was everything?" NOTHING. All in all, carne asada was very good. Service was NON EXISTENT. read more

Do not come here if you are a single woman. You will be ignored. Last Friday night, I came in for dinner. Couples and families were seated while I suddenly seemed to have acquired the super power of invisibility. I was hungry and didn't want to go looking for another restaurant in this small town, so I finally grabbed someone and said can I please have a table. He seated me and brought me chips and salsa - so this was good. OK...I'm finally set, I thought. But no....waiters passed me by repeatedly in favor of family tables (who'd come in after me). So after ten minutes, I had to tackle a waiter, who didn't apologize for his inattention, but simply asked "Do you want a drink?" Uh...yes. "But first I'd like a menu." "Oh. OK." (foreign concept, it seems.) On the plus side, the margarita was very good. But....not good enough to outweigh the terrible dish. Enchiladas with white cream sauce????? So...if you're in this area and get a hankering for Mexican food, head a few miles north to SOL Azteca in Franklin, KY. They treat single women customers just like they treat anyone else--with fast, professional service. And they don't serve cream sauce. Great margaritas and better chips, too! read more

El Aztecs is my favorite Mexican spot in Portland. The spinach dip is amazing! The street tacos are really good as well. The service is usually pretty good, even when it's always packed. There are a lot of young teenagers that work there, but they are always very nice and they work fast, so I'd say they're all great servers. The mixed drinks are good too. read more

I have ate here before and the food is just ok it is not the best Mexican food there is but it will do. It is clean. The meat is a little tough especially the steak. The chicken is good and so is the salsa. The cheese dip is ok I might recommend this to a friend. read more

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Portland, TN area. The staff is friendly, the environment is nice. The seating is a little crammed inside, but I usually sit outside on their covered patio area. My only complaint is that if you go during lunch 12p-2p during the week the service can be slow from the staff - refills, getting the check. The food itself is always fast, delicious, and correct. Lunch specials mean saving money. read more

My daughter and I went in for the first time around 7:30 pm on a Monday night. Super cool interior, we were greeted at the door and seated promptly. The food was delicious! Really good chips and margaritas! I got the Fajita Quesadilla and my daughter got the kid's quesadilla. We were very happy with the food, especially so close to our new home! The service on the other hand, was not so bueno. The gal seemed like she was in a really big rush to get out of there rather than wait on us. She was knowledgeable, when we were able to steal a moment of her time, so that's a positive. After 10 minutes of waiting for her to come back after our food arrived, we flagged the busser down and asked him if he could find her. Had to do the same thing when we were ready for our check. We were not told to pay up front either so we sat waiting for her for another 10 minutes. I'm really hoping the service issue was a fluke because the food and atmosphere were really great!
