My favourite place to eat in Crouch End, if I can get a table that is!…read more I'm a big fan of their version of jerk chicken! It was a slight bastardisation of what I'm used to, but even though it's not quite authentic, it was bloody lovely! The addition of a pot of peanut sauce is GENIUS! I opted for a coke float, although I was hoping for a can of Ting or some Bigga Grape, but meh, the coke float was pretty great too! Mrs D had a fry-up which looked great, but couldn't compete with my chicken. It's not a cheap meal out, and some of the staff seem to cope with the constant throng of customers better than others, but I love it here anyway, and I'll definitely be back.

I went travelling for 7 months in between now and then and can sincerely say their food is the stuff you dream about when you're stuck in the middle of a strange country without your home comforts. It was also one of my first stops upon returning to London. My only slight criticism is the amount of time you sometimes wait to be served and perhaps certain staff could be slightly more friendly, but it is a minor flaw in an otherwise great restaurant. I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich, jerk chicken salad and jerk pork chop which is often on special. If you're not a fan of 'the jerk' don't worry, you can't go far wrong with any of the dishes really. And the prices are very reasonable. And as a quick aside I have dined on a table next to Simon Pegg, held the door open for Victoria Wood as she was leaving and there's a plaque claiming Bob Dylan was there in 1993. If it's good enough for them...

Once again a random find…read more.. I think the entire restaurant is run by two people - a chef and a waiter. Yet the service and the quality of the food is much better than at places where waiters buzz around you like crazy and where there's an army of chefs prepping your food. Granted, it took a little longer until the food actually got served, but I had a good book with me and was quite contend overall. Also, the food-ordering experience is quite interactive, so to speak...upon bringing the menu, the waiter gave me an empty sheet of paper along with a pen and I had to take my own order. These were the dishes that I ordered and that I would definitely recommend further: - Nut Cutlet (a patty made of nuts and served with a spicy tamarind sauce) - Jeero Aloo (basically baked potatoes with tomatoes, curry leaves and other typical Indian spices) - Daal Makhani (a lentil dish that was so creamy and so tasty...finger-licking good) -Stuffed Paratha And all that for mere 11 Pounds!!! Go, grab a few friends, take the Piccadilly Line all the way to Turnpike Lane and start your Indian Adventure in North London right now... (Btw, this is a vegetarian restaurant.)

I could judge Bistro Aix on the dull, loud-voiced idiot who was sat at a neighbouring table…read moretiresomely boring his friends (and us) half to death. But that would probably be unfair. Unfortunately the service on the night was also quite disappointing. After being served by every member of staff at some point during the meal, we had great trouble getting the bill from any of them. It was near the end of the night and everyone seemed to be too busy preparing cutlery and so on for the next day. Also, why do wait staff bring the bill and then walk away for another 10 minutes? Do they think it takes that much time to remove a credit card from a wallet? Once the bill was paid, there was no sign of our waiter bringing the coats he had kindly stashed away for us on entering. So I had to go up and request those as well, and on leaving there was not so much as a goodbye, thanks for coming. French restaurant, British service, it seems. On the plus side the food was pretty good, if overpriced in my opinion. And call me old-fashioned, but after three courses I expect to feel full, and on this occasion I didn't. My duck breast was good if unremarkable, but the calamari was excellent. High marks for the ice cream which came with the profiteroles, as well. The dining room has a relaxed, seductively-lit atmosphere and is good for a romantic meal - just ask to be seated away from large groups when you book, perhaps, and wear bright clothing to remind the wait staff of your existence.

I can see that there is a mixture of opinions on this place...so my I just introduce mine as well?…read more One of my earliest Yelp reviews was on a vegetarian Indian place near Tottenham Hale Station...also called Jai Krishna. This place in Stroud Green is very similar in that it is very simplistic in design, but very functional & efficient: As soon as you sit down, one of the staff will bring you a menu and a piece of paper, on which you should write down your order. To me, this seemed to be quite strange at first, but after having come back 4 times already, I actually like it, because you can take your time with your order - no one is rushing you, even though the place gets quite crowded on the weekends. Now, my favourite item on the menu is the masala dosa. But really any dish has been tasty and I recommend ordering a bunch of dishes if you are with a group and then share it all. That way you get a good overview! For dessert (or starter) I recommend their pistacchio lassie...yummy! What I like most about this place is the people who work here: everyone is so friendly and peaceful - especially the lady who works the cash register. She seems to be the lady running this place...but she's just very good-natured! Be aware though: this place is a BYOB, so pop in to the nearby Tesco or Sainsbury's if you want to drink alcohol along with your meal.

Jai Khrisna is a slightly shabby Indian vegetarian restaurant in Finsbury Park on Stroud Green road…read morejust past the Tescos. It is a family run place and one of the best restaurants in Finsbury Park. Having lived in India briefly as a child I am always keen to find somewhere that does good, authentic Indian food. Jai Krishna definitely delivers; with all the favourites as well as some more interesting dishes. I would particularly recommend the pumpkin and aubergine curries. The food is also great value with prices as low as £3 for a main dish. Jai Krishna does not have a liquor license but you're welcome to bring your own drinks(for which there is a small supplementary fee). The only caveat is that the atmosphere is a little austere, and so perhaps best avoided on a first-date or similar situation. Still, if it is an issue you can also take away.
