After walking by Sensi several times (it was right across the street from our hotel) we decided to have dinner - we had a pleasant meal. While it doesn't look like much from the outside the place has a lot to offer on the inside. It is two levels, the main dining room being on the ground floor and a smaller one above with a small bar. The mood is very trendy and lively and made us (tourists from NYC) feel right at home. Also, the crowd seemed to favor on the younger side, which was also perfect for us. The rustic décor and the bare-stone walls completed the look and reinforced the chill vibe. The staff was to-the-point (it was busy when we were there) but helpful with any questions. I do wish the bartender checked on us a bit more frequently, esp since we were literally sitting in front of her, but it wasn't that big of a deal in the end. After making a reservation we were promptly escorted upstairs and were seated at the bar, which we liked because it was certainly more lively for just a couple of two. We started with a few cocktails, made right in front of our eyes and tasted delicious, and then began with a few small plates. To be honest, I don't remember what we had but we did ask for recommendations to go along with the items that we specifically picked out. My point is, everything was very tasty and enjoyable. Certainly, as with tapas, there wasn't a TON of food... in fact, I don't know what the heck Europeans eat b/c everyone seemed satisfied with only a few plates and I was pretty hungry still after only a few... but everything was tasty. Given that it is tapas it is going to be pricey - and it certainly wasn't cheap when all was said and done - but it was a great experience and one that we greatly enjoyed. What I would give to be in Barcelona right now, eating tapas from Sensi..... My friend and I did not make reservations but luckily got a spot for two at the bar pretty quickly. It was pretty full so I recommend calling before hand. Service was fast paced but very friendly, which is understandable. Each taps dish had so much flavor, it makes my mouth salivate as I type this. I noticed the tapa selection were different to what I saw on Yelp so I assume they switch it some items. The paella is always a stable though and I would highly recommend. I would give zero stars if I could. Me and my husband chose to eat here because of the great reviews on Yelp. However we were very disappointed by our experience and I can say that this is the worst meal I ever had in Spain. We arrived early so we were seated quickly without a reservation. Beware that you have to pay almost 3 euros for a bottle of water, and this the waiter does not tell you upfront. The portions are tiny and expensive for what you get. The seafood paella was nothing special. The truffle ravioli were hard and seemed to be undercooked and drenched in cream, the taste was ok but nothing extraordinary as described by other reviewers. We ordered one oxtail mini burger each, it is literally one bite. Again, it was good but nothing special. The vegetable tarte tatin and the chorizo croquettes were good and worth ordering. Service: dishonest and lack of transparency The waiter served us ONE basket of bread that we did not ask for and we were charged for TWO servings. When we pointed it out on the bill, the waiter explained it as a "cover charge" that was charged because we were sitting at the table. This is not the first time we dine seated at a table in Barcelona or in other places in Europe and it is the first time that we hear of this "cover charge". Even if this is a thing, I do not understand why it was not explained to us BEFORE we were served and BEFORE the bill came. Also, the prices posted do not include tax. And they ask for a tip on top of it. The bill came down to almost 50 euros and we felt angry and ripped off. All in all, the food was nothing special and not at all worth the money, there are plenty of hidden charges, service was nothing exceptional. Please spend your time and money elsewhere. This place is tiny so be sure to make a reservation. We came rather late in the evening- maybe 10:30 or 11 pm and the place was still busy. I love the layout and the fact that they have great air circulation throughout the place. Plus all the servers are wearing this cute leather suspenders. Love it. We shared a few dishes. The stand outs for me were the patron peppers. They really are not spicy at all. It comparable to a shishito pepper. Very mild and great flavor. The mushroom souffle was savory and delicious. In a very busy and cozy street in the middle of Bairo Gotico this small, well decorated and always crowded restaurant will give you a good taste of Barcelona. You must reserve to be able to sit here, you should go for a "late diner" (22-23h) and bring an appetite cause the tapas are amazing! We could not have made a better decision for dinner! We got there shortly after it opened as a quick Yelp search showed us it may be worth a visit. They were able to get us in for 2 hours before they were completely booked. The experience was phenomenal. The servers worked as a team. As you finished one thing, someone would take the empty plate or glass and bring you more. I have never seen such an efficient team! Also, the food... c'mon! My fiancé and I made a reservation here for our first night in Barcelona (at 10:45, very proud of us for jumping right into the locals' schedule!) and I'm so glad we did! The place was bumping and there's no way we would have been seated without the reservation, but the constant flow of patrons made me feel immediately immersed in Barcelona's food scene. We each tried a couple of red wines to pair with our many tapas selections, which were hard to 100% decide on because truly the entire menu looked appealing! Luckily our waiter had some recommendations to steer us in the right direction and I think we ended up with 6 or 7 plates by the end of the evening. Some standouts: We of course had to order the jamón which totally lived up to the hype, as well as the potatas bravas. A favorite of mine was definitely the grilled octopus, which was served with some complimentary sauces that really made the flavors gel. I also SUPER loved the seafood paella, which I mostly ate all of myself as my fiancé is not a huge seafood person. Shame for him because this was some of the most delicious seafood I've ever had. Restaurant was very full when we walked in at around 10:30. That was a good sign. We ordered based on the server's recommendation. The mussels we ordered were lukewarm and was super salty (double strike!) The ravioli was ok but not great. The pork tataki was a standout - was cooked perfectly and very flavorful! The small seafood paella was not dry, but only come with 1 shrimp and 1 mussel. We sat at the bar and we saw the team worked really hard but seemed like the place over-committed. Phenomenal. Pros: -Interesting menu that has a mix of traditional dishes and flavors (chorizo, paella, Iberian ham, etc) with other worldly influences (Italian, Indian, etc) -Amazing tapas. Simply the best. I specifically loved the cheese plate, chorizo croquettes, and patatas bravas. The Indian chicken was a nice way to mix it up too, although it wasn't very spicy. -This was a nice, slow paced meal. However, I found in Spain meals are sometimes slow because the servers have too many tables to attend to. Not the case here; it's just an impeccable gastronomic event and you're well taken care of. -We each had two glasses of sangria and ordered 3-4 tapas per person. It worked out to be about $45 USD per person. It would/should have been twice the price back in the US. Meh: -The place is very small. A reservation is a must. Depending on where you sit it could feel a little tight and claustrophobic. Cons: -The tuna tartare was a big disappointment. Best tapas we had during our whole week-long trip to Barcelona. Prices were affordable, service was great, and food was delicious. Definitely try the zucchini rolls with goat cheese, and the spicy curry sauce mussels. Both had amazing flavors and were great portions to split between two of us. My boyfriend ordered the chorizo, which had a great sauce for dipping the (endless) bread they give you. We also split the truffle ravioli, which was a bit of a contrast from the rest of the food we ordered but still super tasty. This is my all time favourite place for tapas. I would be okay with coming here multiple times during my visit! We didn't have reservations but we came shorty after they opened and got a table right away. However, about 20 minutes after, the place got swamped and there were no more seats so I highly recommend booking a reservation! I love the staff here. We were helped by a few of them and all of them were incredible friendly, sweet, and helpful. The tapas here are phenomenal! Tapas are much like appetisers where you order a few and share with your table. The portions are small, that way you are able to try many! They wait until you're done with one (or a few if you're in a big group) tapa until they bring out another. I'm assuming this is to optimise freshness. The taste and presentation of everything was on point. We were excited to get the next tapa every time! We got the chorizo croquettes, grilled octopus, seafood paella, and truffle ravioli. I would give everything a 5 star, and I would give the octopus more stars if I could. Hands down the best octopus I've ever had. It had so much flavour and just melted in your mouth. Both were INCREDIBLE! The ravioli was very filling and had a rich, but not overwhelming, truffle flavor balanced with Parmesan cheese. I hate giving a bad review, but I ate dinner here recentlt and was looking forward to it after the raving reviews posted but was sort of disappointed. I ordered the poached egg with mushrooms and the small seafood paella so perhaps I did not get the right things. The egg was super watery and the mushrooms very overpowering. The ham on top was very good however. The paella had a somewhat bitter flavor and some of the seafood was quite overcooked. I had a red wine which was amazing, a grenache. The woman serving me was lovely and the other servers were very attentive but I didn't appreciate that that they brought me bread I didn't order and when they offered me water (most places I've been to in Barcelona serve tap) it was a fancy bottle that I felt I couldn't rescind once they brought it opened. Between the two I ended paying an extra 4.5 euros. This was probably the most expensive meal I had in Barcelona (still fairly cheap at 24 euros for both dishes and the drinks/bread) but was also probably the most disappointing. read more
