This place is an awesome emergency room. No matter what problem you have you can come here (unless like it's something really horrible - then I guess you should call 911). I took my wife here last Friday afternoon with appendix pain and she was seen and had a room right away. Its efficient in there and super clean. They then transferred her to the main hospital and she was good to go. Both this location and the other Sentara nurses both recommended to come straight here when you have a problem. The main hospital is too crammed with ambulances coming in so DON'T go there. Also if you need a main doctor check out Mt. Vernon Internal Medicine upstairs - it's a really great doctors office and they're super nice. read more

Since the buyout of Dr. W. the service has descended 100%. They make errors on my prescription and it takes them days to correct it, even with multiple phone calls. The nurse line has to call patients back. They must have a lack of staff. read more

Been a crazy last month due to caring for my parents; however, I would like to give a shout out to SYLVIA who led me the way to find my laptop. You have good people working there and that are very helpful. I cried, after having both parents in the hospital these past months, to lose a laptop was the least of my worries however I felt defeated. Great for appointments and xrays. Been here previously years before and have been seen within an hour. Today had extreme abdominal pain and have waited two hours plus in the waiting area. I left and made sure to let them know how terrible and disappointed I am with the service. Rather die and wait to see my physician. Then, they told me only one dr on duty today. Outrageous. They should've disclosed that at check-in rather than after two hours. read more

I can't believe this Urgent Care has only 2 1/2 stars. I'm not one to give 5 stars for mediocre service but this place deserves more. For various reasons my husband and I have had to use Sentara Urgent Care three times this year. Each time we have gotten good care, sometime long waits but still reasonable (who wants to wait if they're sick or hurting?). The doctors, nurses and techs are excellent. They explained what was happening and helped us to know what to expect. Thank you to all! read more

In Short, dont go here unless you must. 5/15/17 - 7:45pm Over 3 hours and still no labs and the Nurse is no where to be found. I asked 3 techs and they said she is coming but nothing in the last hour. They told me labs should take around 45min. 5/15/17 - 3pm Live Update, my Mother has chest pains and arrived at the ER at 11am with shortness of breath, chest pains and has been sitting in the ER waiting room for 5 HOURS before moved to a room were they put her in a bed. All this time she didn't get an IV done because the first person couldn't find her vein. So 5 hours later and with my mother screaming in pain I told them to please give her an IV and some fluid because she was dehydrated. It is 6pm and the nurse/doctor has not told us anything and the only thing that was done was an iv and morphine. My Mother is still in pain and we are still waiting to hear from a nurse any nurse with whats going on. I feel hopeless as a Son and I don't know what else to do. Do not take someone you love here if possible. I will go out of my way to go somewhere else next time. None of the staff can find her veins. I will try to provide an update later. read more

Yikes is probably the best and only word to describe this experience. Let me first say the admissions staff, the intake nurse and the nurses in the ER are top notch fabulous so this review is in no way, shape or form related to them whatsoever. Just want to make sure that is clearly noted. However the ER doctor................ Man, have you ever had someone walk in the room and there attitude introduced themselves before they even opened their mouth? Well let me tell you I met her in the wee hours of the morning. I bought my mom to get checked out due to some pain she was having and this lady man, I had to rub my eyes to make sure she was real. She was rude and impatient. Every time she opened her mouth it was to cut you off, she would not let you finish your statement. I figured out when she thought she had hear enough whether you were done or not she inserted her "ok, ok, okay" followed by a yea, yea, yea. She even advised my mom not to read the side effects that are listed on prescription medicine because if you read down it long and far enough, you'll find something. Talk about the worst and just when you think its bad enough. She would stop you midway, open the door and ask anyone who walked by, "is that main calling for me?" Now let me just say, I know its an ER and everyone has a critical need but I would like to remain confident that if someone was calling for you, they would come get you, you wouldn't have to keep opening the door and asking in the middle of us trying to give you the necessary information. But as if the cake wasn't fully made already, the icing was when she actually did just leave the room abruptly and left us with "umm hold on" Hopefully this was an off night since they were busy however, I should not be able to read your personal attitude that clearly. Came here for a sprained ankle and everything about my visit was pleasant. The wait time wasn't bad for a Saturday morning and the front desk associates were helpful, even providing me with a wheel chair and rolling me around as needed. I saw 2 doctors and an x-ray technician - all of whom were kind and attentive. They were friendly, asked every question in the book about me regarding my health, and brought me drinks and snacks. They are taking covid precautions very seriously and making sure everything is clean. I'm very happy I came here, I know I'll be in good hands if I ever need to come back. read more

Should be a minus 5 stars. I wrote a 3 page paper about the awful, incompetent, expensive experience to them. Did wrong test, sent bill to wrong health plan, etc. When I told doctor I had a very mild, unrelated issue, she gleefully announced; "You just bought a CT Scan!" ($7,000). Multiple tests were all negative, and I was told I was to be sent to the main hospital to see a surgeon. All without a diagnosis! I said gimme another shot of morphine and I'm outta here, and left. Pain went away, and hasn't returned. Got the bill for over $14K. My primary Dr ordered an ultrasound, and found gallstones. My bill payment for that test was $135. Stay away from this greedy, pompous, less than average group. read more

I really don't know what to say. December of 2015 I came to this location after having kidney stones. I was un comfortable and having to use the restroom every 2 min. Nothing came out. I was tired and frustrated. What's wrong with me? I was going on Vaca in a week or so so I needed to get to the bottom of it. I thought I had a kidney infection or something in those lines. Got in quickly. Saw some young doctor. Peed in a cup so they could do a eurin analysis. It should blood in my eurin which is mostly consistent with my history of having a kidney stone. He choose to treat me for a std. For what ever reason I'm married. Even the nurse knew. I was still wanting to know why he treated me for something I didn't have and ignore my history. So I called my cousin who is an md. Read him the results same conclusion stone was passing through and was causing me to have the problems. Took it to my personal doctor agreed with my cousin and the nurse. I'm lucky that it wasn't something more serious. Or someone would be out of a job and I would own a hospital. Not every time I came I had problems. Just this Friday I took my wife there after being in a auto crash. It took forever to get in there but once in we saw a doc quickly. They called back to the back when my wife told them of chest pain. Still waited. Once in back it started of good but they kept calling for radiology but took them over an hour to come. They kept sawing they were on the way. She is still having issues and it think they should have done more test mri cat scans. To determine and make sure there is nothing wrong that won't show up on a xray. It's a hit or miss with this place. You would be better to call 911 and have the fire department take you. read more

I went there for a misplaced IUD. It took months for them to say what was wrong, each time saying something different. I had to stay hospitalized for 3 days to get a pelvic exam. On top of all of that, when they called me and I picked up, They didn't know I picked up and I overheard the nurses talking about a dead patient, how she was young, and her background. I am so sorry to the family whose trust was broken by their nurses. I tried to say I was on the phone and that I had picked up, but they were so into the conversation they didn't hear me. read more

I have had to go to this facility more than I would like to over the past few years due to kid emergencies. Every time I walk into this place the front desk person is lifeless with 0 sense of urgency and may as well be a plant. There have never been more than 3 whole people in the entire waiting room yet the process to be triaged, cared for and released is always a 5+ hour ordeal. WHY?? The nursing staff seems capable. We've seen 2 subpar doctor types so far. Again no urgency at all and I thought I was being punked by how slow and uncaring this staff was. Every time I end up here in an emergency I quickly remember that I should have rushed to the other main Sentara hospital on Opitz instead but by that time usually a kid needs to stay for one reason or another. NEVER AGAIN!! We will bleed out first. Worst "hospital" staff ever!! Hire people that actually GAF! read more

I received excellent compassionate care at this facility. The PA Venise, nurse Brooke and tech Robyn all were so professional and kind. I was seen quickly given an IV and pain medicine and the CT scan they ordered revealed exactly what the NextCare Dr. thought I had. I walked in there with her very bad lower left abdominal pain. I was upset and crying and they did absolutely everything to take the pain away and diagnose what was wrong. So grateful to all of them for taking such good care of me. The facility was super clean, the staff was excellent and I was treated promptly. Thank you so much for making me feel better and I will definitely follow your instructions regarding follow up care with my internal medicine and the gastroenterologist. read more

The doctor said "yeah you probably have a herniated disc but we reserve our MRIs for true medical emergencies" and that was basically it. They insisted the only appointment they had was at 7A and I had to get there at 630A. Completed paperwork when nurse came out around 650A to state she will be another 15 minutes. After an hour (750A), I approached the receptionist to have her call nurse and have her come right out and take me for my CT scan. Totally unacceptable wait time when you make an APPOINTMENT FOR A SPECIFIC TIME. By looking at the numerous negative comments, I think Sentara needs to think about new management to run a more efficient operation. I went to sentera by tackettes mill close to 1pm. It took over 2hrs just to get xray and i had to go to find someone just for that. Another hour later they still hadn't received results. Someone passes down the hall said "we haven't forgotten about you". Really?!?! Nurse comes back and I ask just give me something to relieve pain and i'll go somewhere else tomorrow. Even though the lady that answered the phone when I called was a tad rude, I still give this place 5 stars. This is because they are so clean. I love this because I usually go to Potomac whenever I have an emergency, but the last few times I went they were really dirty. This place is so clean. It is also never crowded. They move patients in and out very quickly. I also like that the doctors are so kind and do everything in their power to help. I took my son in there and when the regular doctors couldn't figure out what was going on with him, they called a specialist to see what was going on. I like that they didn't give up and send us home with unanswered questions. They also had coloring books for my son, and they offered both of us something to drink. Someone also came to check on us often instead of leaving us waiting around. When they did my sons X-rays they were very gentle and patient with him. If you ever find yourself needing to go to the emergency room, try this one if possible. read more

I was there yesterday from around 4:30 PM to 8:25 PM with my daughter. She just needed to be evaluated for a swollen lymph node. I understand how busy they were because it is the day after a holiday and people tend to get sick more around this time of year. My baby girl was fine with waiting because she was in good spirits. they apologized for the wait once she was triaged. She saw the nurse for a few moments and then she told us there were no rooms available. Again, I understood that the main hospital was severely packed with e.r. patients so this was the overflow. They saw her about 2 hours later and had us on our way. Im glad I went here instead or else I may still be waiting. I work in healthcare so what People need to be mindful about is time management and insurance verification and if you are having a dire emergency, to go to the main hospital. Yes, this is for emergencies, but if you are having a major e.r. dont come here DUH!!!!!!.... Every person is different and recieves certain things differently. If a nurse or doctor leaves a room for a moment, it can seem like forever but may be more like 5 mins. . Happy holidays read more

I was extremely dissatisfied with this "er". I took my infant there and we were there for 4 hours and all that was done was an xray because we had been waiting for transport to main hospital for an ultrasound. I could have driven her myself much faster then it took me to wait which I was told I could not do. Babies require bottles to be fed and I no longer had anymore supplies for pumping or to feed her because I took her there straight after work. If you don't go there at the right times (when all services are available such as an ultrasound ) you will regret it. This place is just a glorified urgent care and should change their name from er to urgent care. read more

This was the worst hospital experience I have ever had in my life. I went to the emergency room for stitches for a dog bite I was there for 4 hours and I, for the first time in my life, had passed out from the freezing cold. In addition, after I paid the bill in full, 2 months later I discovered that there were additional charges. With this hospital you will never be off the hook, even if you pay your bill. I disputed and asked them to remove it. They won't correct the fraudulent, late charge in the bill which I suspect resulted from finding out that a third party (dog owner) actually covered the expenses. So they also shared my private billing information and balance with the third party without my approval. Think thrice before you step into this institution. It is a diabolical place in terms of service, the environment and the billing practices. read more

I, unfortunately, had to visit this location on two occasions in the middle of the night for my young son. I chose this location as opposed to the main hospital because of how close it was to my home and I figured it wouldn't be as busy since it really is only convenient to those who live in Lake Ridge. I was right! We walked in and before we could really finish triage they were walking us back to our room. My son had to have a splinter removed that was causing him a great deal of pain. The whole ordeal was jarring and a bit upsetting. However, the nurse and doctor were very patient, accommodating, understanding, empathetic, and worked with both my son and me so we were as comfortable as possible with the procedure. I'm so thankful for this location and will absolutely be returning here specifically if the need ever arises, but hopefully it never will or at least not anytime soon! read more

The new doctor that recently took over the practice won't see patients on the same day they call in which defeats having a primary care doctor; especially when you're sick. Brought son in to be checked. He had severe abdominal pain. We told doc he had been screaming and crying in pain. Doc and nurse witnessed it. X-rays, urine and blood tests and she diagnosed "possible" food allergies. Good thing we immediately took him to Inova Pediatric hospital. One ultrasound and they found he had appendicitis and immediately scheduled for surgery. I bet Sentara won't misdiagnose our bill... read more

My aunt was seen here by a Dr. McLoren today. She has interstitial lung disease and is on 4L of supplemental oxygen 24/7; + she is immune deficient (no immunity to 11 common pneumonias, no immunity to diphtheria or pertussis or tetanus. She's got non-HIV immune-deficiency, chronic EBV, CMV, chronic urticaria, and has been hospitalized 17x for pneumonia/sepsis in the past 3 yrs. Her Harvard immunologist told her to show ED docs his most recent documentation about her susceptibility to those common pneumonias, and she tried to get Dr. McLoren to "please just look," and because in the past many doctors were too lazy/uninterested in my aunt's respiratory problems, the bottom of her lungs are collapsed and her lungs are scarred and fibrotic. She needs oxygen around the clock. She lives alone, and in a wheelchair too. Her primary care told her to go to the ER because she'd had a bad cough for two weeks, then overnight her oral temp went from 97.5 to 101.5, but couldn't find a ride yesterday. I took her this am as soon as I could. Her fever broke a few hours before we got a return call from her regular MD, and because pneumonia doesn't always show up in x-rays, her doctor insisted on the ER rather than an Urgent Care because a fever over 101.2 means infection somewhere in the body, she was coughing up thick mucus, and has a history of sepsis. She's been hospitalized at Sentara many times for pneumonia that progressed to sepsis. But, Dr. McLoren didn't draw any blood, check her urine or order a CT--even thoughf (at first) she said pneumonia doesn't always show in xrays. Instead, she blew her off saying "It's bad to get more than 2 CTs in a lifetime, you don't have a fever now, so you're fine to go home. As an ER doctor, my scope is very limited. Go to your regular pulmonologist." WTH? What is the PROBLEM with these people??CT radiation is MORE DANGEROUS than possible pneumonia in an immunocompromised person who's got a pulmonary disease and has needed supplemental oxygen for years? She didn't look in her ears, nose or throat, but said, "you've got tachycardia," and that xrays aren't great at ruling out pneumonia, but only did 2 things: an xray and ECG. Now, I am waiting in another ER 20 miles away, while my aunt gets a CT. A urine test here, 90 minutes after leaving Sentara showed she's got a kidney infection and UTI too. CBC and metabolic test was abnormal too so this different ER doc at this NON-Sentara hospital came and asked about her lung disease, if she'd had any recent fever, cough, headaches, ear pain, nasal discharge, coughed up mucus, recent bowel or bladder changes, pain that was new or worse than usual, etc etc. Nobody asked her much of anything in Lake Ridge. She told him she'd been at Sentara an hour earlier and he asked to see the Sentara labs. But there were NO tests besides a ECG and xray. At 9:30 pm, (5 hrs after being sent away from Sentara) her temp suddenly started climbing again, and now (12:30 am) it's 101.3. NSAIDs aren't safe for her. They want to admit her here. She's tired (and upset). I've been with her for 9 hours. Sentara risked my aunt's life and wasted our time AND $$$ (but will get paid for doing nothing.) I'm going to warn everybody online that Sentara is a hell hole. read more

After leaving the dentist I went to Food Lion in Woodbridge. It was the middle of the only snow storm we had this year. While opening my car door, I carefully tried avoiding nicking the brand new Mustang next to me. Along came a gust of wind, flew the door open and caught my left ring finger in the door latch. It apparently tore a bunch of ligaments and chipped a small piece of bone on the knuckle under my cuticle... NO PAIN AT ALL. The site of it looked very much like John Wayne Bobbitt after reattachment. There was no pain but the sight of it was horrifying. I was told by my physician that Sentara was a great hospital.....will be replacing her soon. So I drove to the branch on Minnieville. I walked into a waiting room that was completely empty. I stood in front of the receptionist and she had her head down on the desk. I tried alerting her to my presence and but the head was still down. I loudly cleared my throat and still no movement....a "hi ... excuse me" moved her a bit and a minute later her head rose. I said, "am I in the right place?" and showed her my Bobbitt finger. Within 1 minute I was in one of the cells for treatment, surrounded by an overabundance of women. They told me to remove my sweatshirt and put on a gown that appeared as if it were dyed with pus. I said it wasn't a moving accident it was a freak of nature and I was totally cognizant. "Why am I removing my sweatshirt", I asked?. NO retort from the godesses."We are going to cut your ring off" spewed the girls. I asked, "why" and easily removed what was a very expensive ring. Then I get a tetanus shot. When I later asked why, since there was no blood and the only pain I felt (on the scale of 1- 10 a 1) all day was from the shot. Then a man wheels in a wheelchair and plans to wheel me to xray. Perhaps since it wasn't so busy maybe he could have put the foot rest in the proper place; conducive to a 70 yo woman getting into it. Away we go to xray, where I am told to put my finger in a certain position. As I am standing there trying to not move my finger the man starts closing the back of my pus colored gown...the ties hadn't opened .... I asked him to "stop!" with groping my gown ... it was fine ....then he does it again. I told him to stop, again. We move to another position for another xray and he starts again trying to hold it more closed....at that point I told him one more time and I am taking it off. Then I get back onto the cumbersome wheelchair with the foot rests still in the center....back to the cell. Where I was allowed to sit quietly for a long time..... no reading material....nothing. After what seemed like forever, a new goddess appears, pulls my finger (ha)......puts it in a little plastic papoose and binds me so tightly I didn't think healing blood would ever get there again... I rebind in the parking lot later on. One more person after that and off I go to pay up. Gave them my payflex card, my medicare card and my aetna card. Payflex wouldn't go through because I do believe they were spawned from the same incompetent hive that Sentara is. I visa-ed it $350. (later a bill that added $81 that aetna wouldn't pay for). Did they at that time tell me that I would be hi-jacked for another $2000, 6 months later from a doctor who apparently looked at the chip and told me to go to some hand doctor. And hand doctor sent me to Manassas to another hand dr where I REFUSED CHA CHING SURGERY AND MY FINGER IS FINE now!!. As I said, I am almost 70 and running all over to uncover the truth about my malady. It is very stressful. Never really was told the facts. . . by anyone .....including the gods of medicine. STOP TREATING US AS BODY PARTS WITHOUT A REASONING BRAIN AND GIVE US INFORMATION none of which was given to me. I love how the gods and godesses tell us to stay off the internet regarding our health concerns.....Pah-LEASE. Definately not recommended!! Went to er due to a Crohns flare with vommiting and abdominal pain. Nurse was great, reception & tech very sympathetic and caring. The er doctor.....McLaurin.... Im pretty much lost for words with this one. I do not know how some people earn their degrees for real. Her snooty attitude, ego and just lack of true compassion should be enough to put her in retirement. If you are not interested in helping others but rather the paycheck you will receive for putting in the required hours then i believe you choose the wrong career. I was left crying and in severe pain due to what she was ordering for lunch became more interesting. When she finished with her very pressing lunch decision it was time to follow up with me to rub in my tear stained face that it is against Sentara policy to give pain medicine when you have chronic pain with a gleeful smile. In my 15 years of dealing with Crohns and with a very well noted file with Sentara with all surgeries, severe allergic medicine reactions and extensive hospital visits realated to this particular disease i have never heard such bs in my life. First time for Everything i guess. I hope she enjoyed her lunch and it made her full and happy... At least someone had a good day. In the end of things i should have known the Inova system would treat me better and be concerned about my health. They were fantastic and took good care of me hurry up Inova and come to woodbridge!!
