The service in this store is like you are in a huge broken vending machine. Came in there to get a free birthday gift. Well used to be free. The store had run out of them, used the over used phrase " You have to go on line." Also it's a free gift with purchase. & as a bonus if you spend $500.00 I get $10.00 in earned bonus points. Oh boy! (excited voice). The "Service" is non-existent. A disconnect from "what can I help you with", to actually helping. Kendra helped my daughter pick out makeup for the Boston College senior ball to do herself at home. When my daughter was indecisive she offered to make her up. Her work was so good and her makeup suggestions so on point that I had her do my makeup too and I wasn't even going anywhere. My daughter took a cold shower so she wouldn't mess it up for the ball. During the past year I've had the amazing opportunity to take advantage of their FREE "Beauty Classes/Workshops", which I believe they began piloting since I was the only person there for the very first Skincare 101 class. Anyway I don't think every location has this feature, but just go on the Sephora website to check what they are offering and to reserve a spot. Example of some classes: Skincare 101, Contour & Highlight, Brow Shaping, Correct & Conceal, Nighttime/Daytime Smoky Eye The classes are typically on Sundays at 9:30AM before the store officially opens at 12PM and it usually finishes early so you have the rest of the time as "private shopping" time and to ask any additional questions. The classes are usually limited to 10-15 people so you can get more 1:1 attention. At the start of most classes they will do a color IQ on you to find the correct match in foundation. They really do a great job breaking down the steps so that anyone at any skill level can follow along. They also provide a clipboard with a diagram and overview of all the steps. The class is set up so that we watch the Artist with instruction do the live Demo on one of the Sephora cast members. Then we apply the same technique on ourselves at the work stations that they have set up for us. They provide all of the tools that we need (brushes, eye shadow, lip product etc...) and the facilitators will walk around to check and help everyone. The experience in the beauty classes has really impressed me and convinced me to update my review from a 4 to 5 star for the personalized experience. read more

I've now gotten half a dozen makeovers from several ladies (Tanisha, Laura and Lettie) and have left happy every time. Each lady has their own style but all clearly know their stuff. I am severely disappointed in my recent experience with this Sephora. I frequently purchase from Sephora but typically only purchase online. I decided to go into the store and be fitted for a foundation color. The actual color matching consultation was great. But once I got home, and opened my newly purchased foundation, I found a mostly used foundation bottle in a completely wrong color from the box. I'm both disgusted that I have used makeup from who knows where and annoyed that I have to make an additional trip to the store to rectify the problem. I wish I could have a Sephora all to myself. I'm very turned on by little jars and bottles. I could sniff, and powder, and smear on samples for hours... Unfortunately, it always seems like all the girls in Boston would like to do the same thing, because every location I've been to is always packed and it's impossible for me to really enjoy myself to the fullest. I also wish that the Sephoras here were of the same caliber as in New York, but they're smaller and don't have as much of a selection. I went to this Sephora yesterday and will never go back. I went to buy some Bare Escentuals makeup for the first time. The lady who helped me probably had on the worst makeup I have ever seen. She had very thick, obvious concealer under her eyes, makeup too dark for her skin, obvious shading on her face, awful silvery frosted lipstick, BLACK lipliner, and very heavy, unflattering eye makeup. This, in a place where the customers are tasteful and refined? I was very hesistant to take her advice, because I certainly had no desire to look like her. The first color she put on me did not even come close to matching my skin. Shew told it it looked fine. I then asked to try a different color, when she told me matched and looked fine. She definitely gave me the impression she really couldn't care less. After that I wandered around for a little while while everyone ignored me. There were about 4 employees and two customers including me, so I guess they were too busy...... Then the cashier was really cold and snooty. I am going to return the makeup today, because guess what- it's the wrong color! Only I am going to the Sephora in the Pru, where they have nice, friendly employees who know something about makeup! Update: now that I got the correct color at a different store, and have been watching the video that came with the "get started" set, I see that the lady who helped me at Chestnut Hill did not even show me the correct way to apply the makeup. Major fail! Why not just say "I don't give a sh*t, go pay for your stuff and go?" I'm putting them down to one star. Did I mention how awful that lady's makeup was? This location is definitely small, but they all are compared to the Pru store. Stopped by on the recent tax-free weekend to do a little stocking up and surprise, had a 10% off coupon waiting for me in my VIB account. Got some kick-ass Clinique Take The Day Off make-up remover (best, easiest to use remover ever), a Sephora brand cuticle eucalyptus oil pen, and some Tarte concealer, which at $24, is actually a good price compared to the similar YSL Touche Eclat concealer pen. I'm sure you can find that one next door in Bloomindale's for $40, if you're so inclined. I also got a sample of the new Boscia black, peel-off mask. It's so very weird. You gloop on this pitch black goo in a thick layer on your face and wait for a half hour. Then you peel it off. Strangely, the mask forms an impression of each and every one of your pores (or craters) on the under side of it. Yeah, kind of icky. Sephora is definitely not a place I choose to go, or really feel comfortable going into. Ever. Makeup is one department in which I have no knowledge of whatsoever, and honestly, don't intend to ever. I only come to Sephora when there is absolutely no where else to get a gift... now my second time here. I only come here when it's the ONLY place to find a gift. Before this experience, I have been into the store in Dedham once, and also received great service there (since whenever I come in a place like this, I find someone who works there and tells them exactly what I need to purchase, and make my purchase quickly and get out!). This location is much, much different than the Dedham store in a better way (for me at least, probably not for people who are obsessed with this sort of thing), as the Dedham store is 3x the size and much busier. Once I stepped into the store, I found an employee, Nathane, who was incredible! She was so helpful, friendly, and patient throughout my entire experience. She made me feel comfortable in the store, which I appreciated extremely. She even was able to complete my transaction with her mobile device, and wrapped it into multiple bags (and a bow), to make my gift look impeccable. Huge thank you to Nathane, for making my experience here amazing. If I am to ever need to visit Sephora again (most likely next December), I will be making the trip to the Mall @ Chestnut Hill instead of Legacy Place (plus, parking here is SO much easier than at Legacy), and making sure to get help from Nathane. 5 stars. read more

This Sephora is close to where I work so that gives it one star and it at least carried what I was looking for so I gave it a second star but for the amount of time I spent in this shop without being acknowledged... FAIL! No more stars for you! Sephora is not too dissimilar than visiting a foreign country as any outside visitor requires a guide. So I was surprised to find that I was one of three patrons of a small scale Sephora that was staffed by no less than 6 employees. So there is really no reason why I should find myself staring blankly at foundation while another woman had three assistants to help her pick out lipstick. Sephora is always the first place that comes to mind when I need a new lip color, blush or even perfume. Since this location is nearby, and right by Bloomie's, I find myself at the Chestnut Hill location most often now. Yes, it's smaller than other Sephoras but all the brands I am looking for (Nars, Sugar, Bobbi Brown, Urban Decay, Dior, Laura Mercier, Benefit, etc.) are there. And I may have to ask for help if I am looking for something specific, though sometimes I'd rather than have four people ask if I need a bag, assistance etc. The people that work there are very nice, and although they may not know about all relevant suggestions the store is small enough to just wander around and compare products. One woman was patient enough to go through multiple perfumes with me before then creating a sample to take home and think about. I love that they will make you samples of any product if you ask and that I can always find something I want at Sephora, though maybe that's a not a good thing. read more

Sephora is like candy land! I am kind of reviewing Sephora as a whole when I mention how obsessed I am with the Sephora App. It stores all my past purchases in my beauty insider account which is not only fun, but also super useful when you fall in love with a product and want to remember the color again. I also can't get enough of the emails they tempt me with! I get so much junk email, but I always click on the sephora ones just to see the pretty little goodies inside! This particular Sephora is small as people have said, but I do agree that the selection is adequate. I have never had any problems with not being helped, and I do find that they are not annoyingly pushy, so solid B+/ A- for the help. When I can I go down to the Pru, but this store is much more convenient for me and provides enough fun treats for me to play with! read more

Second, the store is very dirty and Disorganized. They have a very limited selection of each brand. When you ask for a specific product they role their eyes and sort of yell at you. Hands down the worst Sephora experience I've had in the Boston area. I was at the Chestnut Hill Mall this Saturday and met a friend for lunch at Charley's. After lunch, I decided to walk around the mall and I stopped into Sephora. I was greeted by an associate who asked if I needed help and I politely responded that I was just browsing. Less than 1 minute later, another associate approached me. In the 15 minutes that I was in the store, I can honestly say that was approached by at least 5 associates (maybe 6), I was definitely followed by one and watched by two who positioned themselves near the doorway. I'm not a thief, I'm not on the FBI Most Wanted posters. I don't appreciate being treated as though I don't belong in there or that I'm doing something that warrants being monitored. There were only a handful of customers in the store that afternoon, so it wasn't as though they needed to stand guard to protect the merchandise from the swarm. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a Sephora. The sales associates behavior actually made me leave the store. Do yourself a favor and visit the Burlington or Prudential Center locations. read more

I went there late at night, and even though I understand this young woman was probably looking forward to going home soon, she was just miserable and treated me with outmost disrespect without any reason. This is a great Sephora location! The ladies that work here are really an A-team compared to all of the other Sephora location's I have been to. Its a small location and they don't carry many brands but they carry most of my favorites. They have Bobbi Brown, NARS, YSL, and makeupforever. Very friendly employees. The make up artists are very talented. I've had a couple of them do my makeup. I also recommend trying their smoky eyes service. I like to go to Sephora during off hours when it's not too crowded in there. Obviously the no pressure concept is working for them. I also like to support small local stores as well but one of the nice things about this place is you can browse among a lot of different brands and not feel pressured about commissions. I love Sephora products but perefer to order on-line since it's easy to filter down to what I need plus there are reviews of people who already used that product. I go to the store rarely when I ran out of something and need to replenish right away and there is a reason why I rarely go to the store. Nearest to me is at the Chestnut Hill and what I noticed is that they aren't very interested in what I'm looking for and it feels like they try to sell stuff that is not moving fast enaugh from the shelfs.
