I then had a walk around browsing the store. Once or twice I saw something I hadn't heard of and I took out my phone to Google it. I'm a bit socially awkward and I sometimes prefer to read about things online instead of bothering someone with questions. I went to the door and told the gentleman at the counter thanks and good bye. He said to me, "so I'm curious, were you just shop malling me or what?" I'd never heard that term and asked what he meant. He said, "You look at our boxes and then you look the prices up on your phone -- that's shop malling." I said that I was really mostly interested in the Guerlain perfume, and if they'd had a deal on it I would have taken it. But they didn't and plus, I'm not going to shell out $145 for a perfume if I can't try it. He said to me sarcastically, "Support local businesses, huh." I replied, "Well, I still might be back, you have some good stuff." And he said, "I won't hold my breath." It's not nice to be snippy with a customer who's just coming in to have a browse. It's hard to commit to just one fragrance so I opted to get a smaller perfume. Well the salesperson recommended I actually get 3 small ones for only $40 more. Two employees greeted me and my boyfriend as we entered. I walked over to a shelf to look for the perfume I wanted to buy. Immediately I was offered a sample by the first employee. I told them I didn't want help. I was then asked what kind of fragrance I usually wear; I told them, and immediately regretted it, because I realized they were then going to use it to push more product on me. I was right. The second employee started telling me how much she liked the bottle of my usual fragrance. The first employee then started saying they had a fragrance for me to try out. I once again said I didn't want any help. The first employee then told me it was "her job to help me". At this point, I realized my boundaries were not being respected, and that they were only going to bother and pressure me until I purchased something. I told them I was all set, and walked out of the store immediately. It's a shame, because they had the perfume I was looking to buy for the lowest price I've seen, and would have qualified for the buy one, get one 50% off sale. They would have had a sale, had they not been so pushy and made me so uncomfortable.
