This is such a great place to go for your makeup, and more. I love seeing all the products displayed and sometimes get someone to assist and sometimes don't. I love going here with my college age daughter and I actually ask her what she likes and uses (I don't always abide by it)! This time we picked up our birthday gift and got some make up. It is located in Butler Town Center, an outdoor shopping mall that houses restaurants and stores. It is a very good location for them to get all of the UF Students. I don't recommend them for perfumes since the prices are high but sometimes they have testers or travel vials that are on sale. If you don't like something you can always bring it back. read more

All those perfumes are so overwhelming and all I told her was "smoke" and "incense". She found exactly the scent I was looking for. Absolutely loved NINA from Butler Plaza North location! She was so sweet and knowledgeable and helped me pick the right cosmetics. I was having a really hard time picking colors and shades and she spent a lot of time with me, helping me choose. very patient, very professional. I heard they have a very good manager there. Me and my friends decided to grab some Mascara for our Miami trip, and we shopped at Sephora a lot but not this one. So one of the employees was trying to help us and she was so kind, we were testing the Mascara and we loved it. We planned to buy 2 until this Indian Old Lady snatched the Mascara and was being extremely rude and just walked away with the annoyed ugly face. Until the nice employee told us that she forgot to give us the backup brush to test the product because we aren't not allowed to test it directly with the product, and she was ensured with us that it wasn't our fault. Like people do mistakes sometimes so I don't really understand the point of being rude and unprofessional from that Indian Old Lady, her behavior was literally so disrespectful and I can't believe this kind of behavior is existing at Sephora itself. I'm a beauty and skincare junkie so of course, Sephora is one of my go to stores. This Sephora is a stand alone location placed in the Butler Town Center, which is an up and coming outdoor shopping mall with retail stores and restaurants. When I walked in, I was greeted by multiple beauty advisors with warm smiles and conversation. I recently moved back to Gainesville, and this store is a smaller sized store than my normal location in the Boca Town Center Mall. However, the beauty advisors were very knowledgeable about the products and what was available in their location. I went in for 1-2 products and of course I walked out with more than that. I really like Sephora, and the beauty lines they carry, but I was disappointed that most of the things we went for were out of stock. I mainly went for the Lady Gaga glowing foundation but they said they wouldn't be getting those products for another month, even though it was advertised that Sephora carried the line. We also found many lipsticks and blushers out of stock in the colors we liked. On another note, the staff were extremely suffocating. We couldn't look at anything without 2-3 staff members asking us if we needed help. I don't like to be shadowed in beauty stores. I like to take my time browsing and trying different things. Believe me, if I need help I will reach out. As far as the products they did have, I'm very pleased. read more

Sephora can be very overwhelming because they have so much to choose from but they have great sales and they are fast shippers. I like that they have their own brands and that they have testers available. I'd like to try the salon but it's super expensive and I'm not sure if it would be worth it. read more

I've been here twice so far and usually I'm an Ulta girl but the staff here are so friendly and helpful. They are good at matching shades to you, and will help you pick a shade/product if you are unsure. I am wearing all of the products they recommended to me today and my makeup looks better than it ever has. Store is also very clean and well organized. Will definitely visit again! read more

In May of 2009, Sephora, the chain of beauty, skin-care, and hair-care stores added a location to the Oaks Mall in Gainesville. We already had a mini-Sephora (I don't know the official name for such, but "mini" should do since it's little) located in the JC Penny's in the Oaks already, but in May we got a large store. All Sephora stores are more or less the same, though they do carry different brands to some extent at different locations per what they believe the local market will buy. Hence, our Sephora lacks a few brands the Jacksonville St. Johns Town Centre location has, but they do carry an impressive list of cosmetic brands nonetheless: Dior, Givenchy, Laura Mercier, Makeup Forever, Nars, Smashbox . . . pretty good stuff. Where they really shine though is skin-care: you'll find brands such as DDF, Murad, Perricone MD . . . pretty much whatever you'd like to try for skin-care. They also have a wide array of perfumes. There's really nothing else like Sephora around: the nearest Ulta is in Ocala and they are not nearly as good for make-up and skin-care as Sephora though they are great for hair-care products, and we don't have a Blue Mercury (the nearest is in Jacksonville). The staff is very friendly at our local Sephora, if somewhat overbearing at times (one associate tends to follow me around when I'm looking at skin-care and tries to show me things despite my polite mention to her that I know what I am after already). I feel we're very fortunate to have a Sephora here and that their corporate office took a chance on Gainesville despite the rough economy in 2009. read more

I genuinely do not use yelp for reviews and on any other sites I leave only good reviews but this sephora is atrocious. Every time I step foot in here it's immediately bad vibes the employees have no idea what's going on and the manager is a tyrant and just simply a big bully. Their big sale of the year is going on and I am a college student and don't make many self indulgent purchases but I was running out of my perfume and I figured this is the perfect time to buy. I checked out and my total seemed oddly high so I got to my car and realized I didn't receive the discount and went back inside to have it fixed and they told me I was not a rouge member so I decided to just return my perfume. I went back to my car again and checked my app and I was in fact a rouge member, super frustrating. I've left another review for this sephora in the past but I can't seem to see it on their page anymore... weird. read more

The ladies here helped me to achieve the impossible and find a foundation that I love. I don't wear much makeup, and when I do, I don't want to look like I'm wearing any at all. At the same time, I've been struggling to find something that will cover my dark spots (thanks, adult-onset acne) without making me look like Little Richard. One of the makeup artists, Jocelyn, tried two foundations on me, but they made my skin look like muddy water and they did not compliment my yellow and green undertones well at all (despite her raving about how well the products matched my skin). Instead of blending in with my skin, they sat on top of my face like a yellow tinged paint. She gave me samples of the product to try later, but after viewing it on me in a brighter, stronger light, I realized that I needed to keep looking for my perfect match. Another makeup artist (I forgot her name, but she was a black girl whose name also started with J. Jess, maybe?) asked if I needed any help. I told her that I was looking for something that had a more natural finish. She put me on to some really fabulous foundation from Cover FX that made my skin look dewy and fresh instead of cakey and dull. I walked around the store and checked out my skin in different kinds of light. It looked fantastic. It also wasn't heavy or greasy. She also introduced me to a peach colored primer from Make Up Forever that helped to even my skin tone and make the look even more flawless. I appreciate her taking the time to make sure that I found the right product for my skin. I've been to MAC, bluemercury, and a couple of other stores that have just tried to sell me stuff, as opposed to taking the time to make sure that I leave with a product that is right for me and a product that I'm satisfied with. I want to start by saying i love sephora. This free standing store is big and has plenty of products that i love. I was in search for a good tinted moisturizer and wanted a sample of the hourglass $55 one. The sales woman acted like i was some teenager wanted something free and not wanting to actually buy it. I prefer to get samples instead of having to return something that doesn't work for my skin type( i have very dry skin). She literally gave me a dot of product as a sample. I don't think it is even enough to try one time let along a few to see if it works for me. I'm disappointed in this particular sephora. read more

Not into makeup. Not into skin care. I have no reason to ever set foot in a store like this. But then I got waxed, and helloooooooooo ingrown hairs! In my limited knowledge about this sort of thing, I dimly remembered hearing that Tend Skin was good at preventing this kind of thing. I also remembered that Tend Skin was relatively expensive. Maybe Sephora carried it? They did, and I bought it with a bare minimun of fuss. But that's not why they're getting five stars. After two weeks of using this product regularly, it became painfully obvious that I had bought the wrong item. Tend Skin is actually meant for someone who shaves on a regular basis. After you wax, you're supposed to exfoliate the waxed area with a loofah. Guess what Tend Skin clearly says in its directions? "Not intended for use after exfoliating." Know why? The main ingredient is alcohol. Exfoliating is essentially giving yourself a voluntary scraping. Yowch. I returned to Sephora and explained my problem. The employee I spoke to immediately directed me to "The Cool Fix," which is a gel, not primarily made with alcohol, and a much better solution to the problem. I happened to mumble something about the price and the employee asked me if I still had the Tend Skin. "Yeah, but I used it already--" "Bring it back, we'll exchange it." "Seriously?" Seriously. Even though I couldn't find my receipt. Even though the top tenth of the bottle was gone, which meant I had used the product multiple times. I've known places that wouldn't accept a completely unused product WITH receipt simply because the seal had been broken. I gotta admit, I was super-impressed. The Cool Fix seems to be working pretty well. And I'm still not into makeup or skin care--but I'd return here in a heartbeat because the customer service is so good. 5 stars. read more

If I could marry a chain, it would probably be Sephora. I love that you can go around the store and try virtually everything in there. You can even ask for samples of most of the products. And you can't forget their absolutely unbeatable return/exchange policy! Also, I've found that most Sephora workers are 50x friendlier than their snooty MAC counter counterparts. read more

Terrible experience this evening. My daughter went in to return some items. She has been a long time shopper at Sephora. Usually they encourage you to try something and their policy is that you can return items if they aren't to your liking. Well their policy has supposedly changed and they refused to take back several items she had (well over $100 worth). The manager, I think Maria, was very rude and condescending to both of us. Went over to JCPenney and returned all the items with no hassle at the mini Sephora. Hmmm. Didn't seem to be a problem or against the policy there. The large Sephora has lost a customer for sure. read more

Had a VIB make up session with Lindsey and she was so nice to work with. She didn't rush and spent over an hour on my makeup appointment when she found out I was celebrating my birthday that evening. We had fun conversations and the overall experience was so enjoyable. She recommended a few products I really liked and didn't pressure me to make a purchase or up sell the things I did choose. Best tip was using YSL touché eclat as eyelid primer in addition to concealer and it did very well with keeping my eye shadow in place. Also helpful with sampling fragrance and eye creams. Best part was the eye makeup, she did a great job. The sales associates were all very friendly as was the manager, seems like they have good morale. read more

I had an interesting experience.... I work in hospitality so customer service is very important to me. A lovely gentleman, named Randy, was extremely helpful and made my experience worthwhile. But I was surprised to find some employees with an unsavory look on their faces- you can tell when people hate their jobs and it makes you uncomfortable. I have been a sephora lover for years. I am a Rouge member, which shows i spend too much money there! i absolutely hate the jcpenney 'kiosk' in Gainesville Fl. I like the fact that you can park and 'run in', vs having to walk all through the mall to get to the big store. I only go there anymore if the main sephora is out of stock of something. Even then, it makes me cringe. I show up on a regular basis, to either of them, in my crappy gym clothes after working out. These are usually my free blood donation tshirt and some bleach stained yoga pants. When I go to the big sephora, I am greeted warmly, with lots of enthusiastic help, treat me like a queen. When I go to the jcpenney looking like that, I am lucky if I even get a nod or acknowledgment. Went again today because the main was out of the Kate von d lip gloss I wanted. As usual, i was in my paint stained capris, crappy looking tennis shoes and and old tshirt. No one even said hello. but when dudded up, beautiful women came in, they were all over them. While I was looking at the lip gloss, i literally had to reach over a sales person stocking, who never even acknowledged I existed. I actually left after receiving no acknowledgment after about 10 minutes, went to yankee candle,etc. but eventually came back because i REALLY wanted that lip gloss. when i had to ASK about the new bronzer from hoola special they were running that day, i finally got a reluctant helper, who acted like I was a person just wanting samples.i had originally gone in wanting to purchase two colognes for myself and my son, but then was too upset to spend my $100. Then, to the counter to buy the lip gloss: 'oh! your a rouge member!" The lady who acted a bit bothered when I asked about the hoola sample was there and stopped and starred at me..'OH! you have 976 points, would you like to get something?" Then there was suddenly a lot of butt kissing and the way I should be treated. Last time I was there, they treated me the same way. i got annoyed after being ignored and went to the main sephora, where I spent about $300. I only came back because they were the only ones that had the mascara kit I wanted. the lady was like, 'but we had everything you bought here!" I said ' I know, but when I was here before, no one wanted to wait on me" It was a very Pretty Woman scene;) my advice, don't judge a book by is cover. When I'm gyming and running errands, I look like poo. when Im running around with the girls, shopping,etc, I look pretty good. but I still have the same amount of money in my pocket either way read more

The first time I ever went into that store, I was followed around like I was going to steal something. Then, when I did pick up something that I was looking at and wanting to buy, the lady kept asking me"Do you want me to hold that for you?", it made me feel completely uncomfortable. Not to mention when I made the rewards account at check out she completely missed spell my name and email, so I had a fight with Sephora on the phone for almost an hour to try to change it. Recently though, I went to return some eyelashes that I bought a couple days ago. The lady that was helping me make the return, was completely rude. She asked me what was the problem, I explained to her that every time I put them on there is still a gap and you could see the false eyelashes. She then explained to me that maybe it's too big for me and I need to cut them. I told her that I know that but I didn't feel like cutting them and I just wanna different pair. She kept going back-and-forth with me and then finally she said well I can't sell these now. And made a face. It was the worst customer service ever. read more

Repulsive attitudes, uncaring, lazy, forgetful, and clueless, some of the wonderful traits of Sephora and it's plethora of out of stock items. I'm a pretty patient person and regular customer at Sephora, especially in Gainesville, but lately i have been treated like the last piece of half chewed, under cooked fried chicken at the Golden Corral buffet. I walked in looking for clear brow gel and a couple palettes I've been eyeing up for a while online, but was let down by who I thought was the Mad Hatter sipping on Tea with a splash of lean, double cupped out the ass. The associate told me they haven't had the palette in months and wouldn't even order it for me cause apparently my rainbow slippers and "spongebob outfit" repulsed the manager and the whole crew. After a while charade of miscommunication and dealing with an employee with Alzheimer's, they found one palette I was looking for and right before they handed it to me, THEY OPENED IT UP SPIT IN ALL THE COLORS AND RUBBER IT ON THEIR ASS. I recently made an appointment to get hair and makeup done for prom. I scheduled my appointment for 12:15 in order to be done by 1:30 because I was told it would take an hour maximum. I showed up on time and I was told it would be about twenty minutes. I waited for an hour and the girl who I had an appointment with was working on someone else and started to get another girl to do my makeup. She had little experience and the foundation wasn't my color and she had to start all over on my eye-shadow. In order to do so she wiped my face raw which resulted in making it look like I had black eyes. After an hour and a half the lady who I was scheduled to work with showed up to fix the mess. Then I was getting my hair done, I asked for small curls but she couldn't because they had to share curling irons and she only had a big one. I ended up being late to dinner because i was having to fix everything when I got home. I payed 80 dollars for a mess. I was a very loyal customer and I am greatly disappointed. read more
