I like this Sephora more than the one located in the Galleria. It could be because they are smaller, but the staff at this Sephora seem friendlier and less uptight. You can basically explore without feeling tailed or obligated in anyway. It is also quieter, less crowded, and not as saturated in clashing cologne smells. I always see makeovers in process there. I mainly come here to pick up skin care potions and lotions. If you sign up for their free rewards club, you rack up points with your purchases and eventually, you can redeem them for any assortment of gift items offered that month. Believe me, it's easy to spend an average of $50 there. This Sephora also seems more generous with samples and they do not give you the stink eye if you need to exchange/return anything. read more

Love Sephora, loathe this location for one single reason: sales associate Karin. Been using anti-aging products for the past 10 years, went 3 months ago and Karin insisted that I leave my go-to brand of Clinique for Caudalie (because according to her, Clinique is crap). 3 months later, noticed that Caudalie wasn't really helping, came back to look for something else, got helped by Karin again. I told her I noticed some visible signs of aging, and she just blatenly told me that Caudalie doesn't do anti-aging, its just a mosturizer! I told her she was the one who highly recommended Caudalie 3 months ago, and she didn't even apologize. She just stared at me and said: "well, you have great skin, you don't need to worry about that." When, again, stressed my disappointment at the fine lines that developed recently, Karin just said: "what you need is to use Caudalie as a baseline... then apply blah blah blah...." This woman just talks at the customer, and not pay attention to what I actually need. Avoid her! I am still a fan of Sephora, but I will never visit this location again. I still remember my first "makeover" at Sephora in high school (think 2000). They were the ones who introduced me to Benefit High Beam face highlighter and the magic of eyeliner (both products and tools I hold close to my heart a decade later). So, in general - I am a big fan of the mecca of beauty products that is Sephora. And the Rice Village location takes my love of Sephora to a whole new level. At half the size of the galleria location, this Times store is a lot less intimidating to take on and much easier to get in and out of. I am very much a die hard Laura Mercier fan and tend to stick to her products which are thankfully carried at all Sephora locations. But every now and then, I get an itch for a new beauty tool and that's when I head to my neighborhood Sephora. The Times staff is always so helpful and knowledgeable of their products. They always narrow down my search to a few options and 90% of the time - they have chosen the perfect product for my needs. And when I'm not satisfied, they happily take it back for a full refund -NO QUESTIONS ASKED! Sephora is definitely a candy store for women, but unlike the fancy makeup counters at Nordstrom's, Macy's and Sak's, you feel at ease sampling all of the makeup and perfume without some counter girl pushing you to buy to get her commission. I honestly feel like I'm being followed by vultures at the perfume counter at Neiman's. At Sephora, you are free to test and sample at ease! Hoorah! What I love most? They also have a great member rewards program that is free of charge. I am constantly getting $ saving emails. My favorite is when they send you the "spend $50, take $15 off" coupons - they basically gave me a free Laura Mercier eyeshadow! Score! Sephora, in general, makes me anxious. They always seem packed, the staff seems to be consistently grumpy, and the stores in the mall are always SO MASSIVE. THIS Sephora, however, is awesome. Great condensed selection of all the bests and the greatest tidbits of their line. If you need help finding a particular item or just getting a overhaul on your money maker the staff is extremely helpful. Parking can be a concern, so try and hit this location up during the week, midday. Drop that pharmacy crap and go add some luxe to your look. read more

The first time I ever walked into a Sephora store, it was an amazing experience and to this day I refer to it as Make-Up Mecca. The Village store is just over a year old, but I still remember how excited I was when I found out a store was opening there. No more fighting the insanity that is The Galleria to visit Sephora! Granted, The Village can be just as crazy, but it's usually better than The Galleria. As a matter of fact, the only negative thing I can say about this place is that lots of times, it's really hard to find a parking spot. I try going at off-peak shopping times to get around this, but it still sometimes sucks. However, this problem is something that plagues all shopping in The Village, so it's not just a Sephora issue. This place has an absolute stunning array of beauty products. There's make-up, there's skin and body care products, there's perfumes, and more. They carry brands that you aren't going to find anywhere else and there's always testers of the products available so you can see how each item will look on you. In addition to being able to try the products in the store, Sephora also has a wondeful return policy. You can try the product and, if you don't like it, you can take the unused portion back to the store within sixty days for a full refund. Since most of these brands aren't cheap, it's a great way to try the item and not worry that you're going to be out if you don't like how it looks on you. The staff here is also always very friendly and helpful. If you tell them what you're looking for, they will help you find the exact item or exact shade. While I don't come in here all the time, I do come in pretty often and several of the staff members always remark on how nice it is to see me again, which I find an endearing touch. Recently, their big one year anniversary party was held and they also had a professional make-up artist, Sylvia Rivera, who was simply amazing. She helped my friend find some stunning eye shadows and gave us both tips on how to apply make-up that were easy but made a big difference to our appearances. I spent way too much money (like I always do), but I think I'll be more than pleased with the results that they provide. Sephora has also introduced a rewards card - their Beauty Insider Program - that is free to join. You receive one point for every dollar spent at either Sephora.com or in a Sephora store. Every time you accumulate 100 points, you get to then choose a Beauty Insider Deluxe Sample with your purchase. True, it's not much, but if you're going to be spending money anyway, you might as well get a gift too. While it's true that the products here aren't cheap, you'll definitely be able to find something to your liking and even if you don't want to buy anything, it's fun to look around and get ideas for the future. I can see what other people mean about the service here. I was in the store for a good 10-15 minutes right after they opened, mucking my way through an attempt at color matching, before I decided it would be easier to hunt down someone to help me. Once I found someone, she was very helpful, and wasn't pushy at all about trying to get me to buy half the store (which can happen sometimes with Sephora folks). She got me my color match, asked if I needed anything else, then poofed. Other than the rather absent, but still helpful, service folks, the store itself is very nice. As with all Sephoras it's organized by brand. This particular one seems to have a more extensive selection than most, or maybe it's the same selection but there's actually space to maneuver in the aisles. One major pro for this place: Natural lighting! Many Sephoras are in malls where you're only going to get fluorescent lighting. This can result in a color match that looks funky and fake in sunlight. I will definitely be using this location for my color-matching needs. I actually went here twice in one day - once first thing on a Saturday morning, then again 4 hours later because like the silly blonde I am I forgot something. Let's just say this place gets PACKED. Definitely try to hit it during an off hour if you are going to need customer service. read more

I love this location! Sephora is my Waterloo, and as those of you who have been kind enough to answer my questions of late know... I am a little (lot) strapped for cash. So the Village Arcade Sephora is awesome for a few reasons. If I just need sunblock that doesn't give my schizo skin a reaction, fighting mall traffic isn't realistic. That reason alone makes the West U Sephora pretty perfect. Parking in this area isn't awesome, but it's not that bad. What I really enjoy is the scaled-down size. For those of us who are easily overwhelmed, Sephora can bring on bouts of dizziness and faintaing. Typically, I can't make an purchase from their website without a week long cost-benefit and in depth multiple monitor color analysis. The smaller Sephora has all of the essentials, some generous natural lighting, and is great for us OCD types. It was helpful to my bank account too! Much easier to stay on track, with the reduced selection. The staff at this store is fantastic. I really can't say enough. I have a peculiar way of behaving when I get around women I perceive to be in a position of beauty authority. Maybe it's flashbacks from high school, I dunno. But typically, I walk through the door and am instantly reduced to a mumbling, shrinking violet. (Oh, the errant products and services I've purchased over the years! All because I couldn't say no.) But at this store, everyone is very friendly, but not aggressively so. They're just... nice. And very helpful. I was steered away from a more expensive single-purpose product to a less pricey dual use product. I appreciate that, very much. Forget the "higher ranked" Sephora at the Galleria. My go-to beauty store is Sephora at the Village Arcade! The folks who work here are usually very pleasant and helpful. I particularly gave this location 5 stars because of Cate, the make up artist, did my complimentary VIB make-over and she was AWESOME. I gave her the minimum requirements of (1) day-time smokey, (2) waterproof mascara and eye liner, (3) some color on my lips, and she ran with it. She used tons of high-end products (Dior, YSL, etc) I would never use. She knew how to accent my best features and minimize the things I didn't like so much. You can get free make overs any time as long as you spend $50, which isn't hard to do! You can make appointments in advance. Park in the Village Arcade garage when you go here. This is my preferred Sephora location. Why fight the Galleria crowds? This location has knowledgeable associates, and I feel comfortable taking my time and trying products, with or without help. Every product has an open tester, and there are stations with makeup remover, alcohol, applicators and mirrors at the end of every aisle. The large windows at the front of the store are great for checking your makeup in natural light, which is something the Galleria location is lacking. Generous samples can be prepared from any product for you to take home, which is fantastic, since you can't always tell how things are going to last or look there in the store. I was able to find what I came for, get some great advice and samples, and try out some new products I'd been wondering about. read more

I am a huge Sephora fan. However, not all store locations are as good as this one- which makes this my favorite Sephora destination. (avoid The Galleria, Baybrook Mall and Memorial City Mall) The people who work here are awesome. They aren't pushy sales people, but rather people working in the industry of their choice. They are passionate about certain products and will promote them but still give you different opinions. They will take the time to make a sample for you to take home and try. I really like their huge selection of Tarte, Benefit, LORAC, Make up Forever, YSL and Dior. Their hair product selection is also extensive (YAY FEKKAI) and their Philosophy and Bliss inventory drives me nuts!! They have free professional full make up application with a $50 purchase. I have totally used this perk in the past. Think about this scenario: going to a friend's bday party, you can get your friend an awesome Sephora present and get your make up done professionally!! My favorite Sephora location. I can spend all day in this Sephora. The store is very organized and it seems much bigger than the other stores in the Houston area. The sales associates here are very helpful. They are nice and attending, but not pushy like some other cosmetic/beauty store. They would spend time with me to show me different products from different lines and explain how each product worked. If you're in the market for make up, they do a great job showing you how to apply the products. Everytime I come back from Sephora I always come back with a bag full of goodies and my husband always asks me why I need so much make up. A girl can never have too many beauty products! I love Sephora because they have a great return policy. I bought a face serum and after a few days of using it I notice my skin was very tight and dry. I brought it back to Sephora and returned it. They made it such a pleasant experience, didn't give me a hard time about returning a used product. I always walk out happy every time I go to Sephora. The only downside is that they close at 7pm on the (why do the close so early when other stores in the village closes at 9pm??) and parking can be hassle on the weekend, but that's not Sephora's fault. read more

This location is my favorite Sephora. The staff at this Sephora are so knowledgeable of products. Every time I have left this Sephora I always have the right shade foundation and concealer for my skin tone. I always leave trying new products that I am so happy with. The Galleria Mall Sephora seems like the staff always pushes wrong shades and random products that are not right for my skin tone. I love my local Sephora so much more than the other ones around Houston. I like shopping without too much employee interaction. I don't need to be checked on every five seconds, and if I see something I like I'll definitely buy it. If you're looking for new releases, Thursdays and Saturdays are the days that you should check the store. They also can't put things out until the companies send them the display, but if it says that the Village location has it online, the SAs are more than happy to go to the back to see if they have it in store (most of the time they do). The manager (Suzanne) is so friendly and a joy to see in store. I don't think I've ever seen her without a smile, and she's always willing to grab whatever samples you want to try out. While the parking can be a pain, Sephora will validate your garage parking. Even if you don't wind up buying anything, just ask a SA near you to grab you validation. read more

Laid out different then I am used to, but the staff was friendly and helpful without being pushy. Sephora offers a great Beauty Insider program with birthday gifts and point perks that are per dollar you spend. I also love the samples that you can get at Sephora. Kee + Sephora is a dangerous thing. It is amazing that I can walk into this store with one thing on my list and walk out with 5. There are several Sephoras in town but this is my favorite one, mostly because its more spacious and organized. The fact that theres more space in this store makes for better browsing because I dont feel like I will bump into everyone and her mother when im shopping. The staff at this particular store are also friendlier and less rushed. I love how Sephora is so organized - with make up and tools at the front of the store and fragrance + skincare towards the back. I also like that they carry a wide variety of brands and even have skincare and fragrance for men. While this particular store is indeed a bit more spacious than other stores, it can get crowded. As in crazy crowded. I also dislike how the testers can get a bit grungy and a bit icky. This makes it kinda difficult to swatch colors as the grime compromises the shades and pigmentation of products. They have a rewards program that gives you free stuff for every x number of shopping points acquired - making shopping at Sephora even more tempting. Their return policy is very liberal as well. The only downside to this store is that being in the Village - parking is difficult and sometimes impossible. Ive given up on ever finding parking close to the store and just park away from the center of the Village and enjoy a leisurely walk to Sephora. They stopped selling nail polish at this location a few months ago which was a bit disappointing but apparently people weren't purchasing nail polish here. Super bummed about this place. I was originally here in the fall and Emily from corporate helped me. I had the best experience that day. Then now I come back to get a shade change and a few other items and nearly everyone has an attitude. The only friendly face was at checkout. First things first. I didn't know where the lip gloss sticks were in the store, and asked one of the makeup artists for one. I needed one more and when I came back she was so rude about it and said, "Here! They are right here! That way you don't have to keep asking me!" Then when I was trying to find the lipgloss shade I asked for help to find the one that was in the holiday set. The lady said "I have no idea. You will need to go online." Then she just walked away. Um, thanks for the help? After trying 3 of them on myself, I figured I would ask someone else. The person I asked went and got the same exact lady I asked previously. She repeated the same thing. I guess there's only one person that could have helped me? I've learned how to get guys to hit on you at a gas station at this Sephora. First, you need to get in position: hips cocked, with a manicured hand on hip, and your assets pushed out on display. Then, you need to have your phone out, so you can pretend you're texting someone. Your head needs to be down, so you can spot the man approaching you out of the corner of your eye, as well as seem like you might not give the man the time of day (though you totally could, by checking the time on your cell phone). When the man gets your attention, you want to appear taken off guard while executing a hair flip. Check and mate. I haven't tried executing this, as I'm afraid of the sort of man who'd hit on women at gas stations, but I've been assured that hot men flock to a lady pumping gas. (Note: ladies do not necessarily flock to men pumping gas, especially if the man is wearing OshKosh B'Gosh overalls and has his...assets on display). Each sales associate has a specialty: makeup, skincare (haircare may be incorporated into that, I'm not sure), and perfume. The sales associates/makeup artists here are in abundance and are friendly, but will let you browse in peace if that's what you're there for. I can spend hours testing stuff, trying to fill an invisible gap in my collection, and, half the time, the sales associates can tell that I'm super involved in turning my hand into Joseph's coat and leave me be. If you do look a little lost, they can usually pick up on that, too. Jennifer, the makeup artist who kills it at the gas station, is of course, my favorite. The first time I talked to her was when I went up to her, peered at her closely, and told her she looked like the photo outside advertising her as part of this year's Sephora Pro Beauty Team. The girl's got talent AND she can testify to the ginormity of Kim Kardashian's booty. I learned that the best booty is the one you can ride like a horse, complete with galloping motions. Half the time when I'm there, she's doing someone's makeup, and they turn out gorgimous (a word I learned from her--combo gorgeous and glamorous, which, I know, doesn't quite add up together). I also trust her to tell me what colors look good, as, sometimes, you need confirmation that something's ugly or gorgirous--nope, gorgimous works better. This location is also great because, though it can get a little crowded on Saturday afternoons, it's mostly free of people in the morning and afternoon, and moderately busy after work (sometimes lunch as well). Compare that to a Sephora located in a mall, where they're smaller and overrun with teenagers. This location is spaceous and has the usual suspects (NARS, YSL, Smashbox, etc.), as well as others (Korres, Anastasia, Tarina Tarantino). Some locations have abbreviated skincare and haircare sections (with the latter, bumble and bumble is a recent addition), but not this location. As with all Sephoras, you can always ask for samples, and the return policy is great. If something doesn't work out at home, you can return it, though I always make a note to tell the person at the cash register that I didn't test the item, so it doesn't get tossed. Sephora has a Friends & Family once a year in November (20% off), though I usually like purchasing online, as I can get three samples and get cashback from a rebates website. If you have a Beauty Insider card (which is free), you can earn points for free goodies as well as access items that are special to Beauty Insiders. If you spend enough money in a year, you get to be a VIB (Very Important Beauty Insider) and there are additional sales for you. Sephora is my go-to spot for makeup and skincare--why shop at department stores when you can browse and test in peace at a Sephora? I remember walking into a Paris Sephora when I was 12, making a lap, and exiting quickly in bewilderment. If I were there now, I'd probably roll around in ecstasy (admittedly, part of it would be because I'd be in Paris). read more

Worst Sephora. Lack any ability to help their customers and are rude. Don't waste your time coming here.

This was the worst Sephora I've ever been to. I'm a VIB member, so I love to spend money on make-up, hair and skincare, but I walked out of this store empy-handed. Why? Because this place has the worst customer service ever! I walked in and not one single person greeted me. I wanted to buy a whole new face cleansing kit, but I couldn't even locate an employee, except for the one working behind the checkout counter. I'll stick with the one in the Galleria. read more
