While I waited for my daughter to choose from her color/IQ matches I shopped around for other things I wanted. Every area I went to someone was there helping me. I was searching for a new fragrance and Marlene even made a sample for me. Marlene gave me great pointers & suggestions. My daughter and I left with several samples and had a great time shopping. Sephora obvioulsy pay a lot of people a lot of money to get such five star reviews. Nowhere do I see the things I hear about in every day life; nor do I hear the system explained. So here is my experience. And I will never go into this place again. I went into Sephora in Fashion Valley to see if I could buy foundation. I wanted two samples of two different foundations that covered my skin (I'm older) because I haven't used foundation for a while and I needed to test it before I bought it. I told one of the ladies and she said she would be back in a minute. When she came back, she asked someone else to help me. I found that strange (and offensive) because she was clearly not helping someone. I explained to the lady who came to help me that I would like two samples of foundation between the prices of $15 and $40 (Okay, I'm a cheapie) and that I wanted it to cover my face so that the marks didn't show. She promptly told me that she didn't have foundation in that range and that all the foundation she had was from $40 up. Then she proceeded to show me somthing for $60 (which didn't cover up anything) and then told me that she had nothing else and to go and see the girl in the other section. I was bewildered and asked her why she couldn't show me. "Oh, we each have a section and we can only work in that section." Oh, so screw the client's comfort. If the client wants things in different areas of the store, then the client has to deal with ten different people, whatever. So I walked out minus samples and quite bewildered that the store didn't have foundation in a price range that most stores sell. Then I discovered on the website that they do sell foundation in my price range. So the lady was either a complete liar, or what she meant was that in her particular section she didn't stock that. She could, of course, have just told me that the cheaper makeup was somewhere else without wasting my time. I also ran into a guy at the bus stop that recognied me from somewhere and asked me if I had been into Sephora because he worked there (actually he worked at a coffee shop as well and that's where he recognized me). I told him that Sephora was understaffed and that was as far as I got before he called me a 'f... bitch.' Really? Someone else explained to me that the reason sephora uses this system is so that there is always someone in one area of the shop so that people can't steal when staff is elsewhere. Well, then Sephora is understaffed, becasue what they do then is employ security to look after the store and see where there isn't staff. But I never got that far because this member of Sephora staff was calling me names. Suffice to say, I will never shop at Sephora again, and I think that all these reviews are fake.Why? Because I spoke to several other people about it and I didn't hear one good word about the store. read more

Been to sephora multiple of times for products and to get my make up done. All my visits have been fine but yesterday I had an AMAZING experience with the fabulous Gina Pauling. I went in to get my makeup done for my maternity shoot and Gina did an amazing job. I showed her pictures of the style I wanted and she nailed it (which no make up artist has ever done for me). My make up turned out better than I could ever imagine!! She didn't rush and we had great conversation the entire time. She has definitely become my go to make up artist. She is probably one of my favorite humans on earth! read more

Let me begin by saying that I have frequented this store, never with an issue (and left satisfied), until today. In December, after having my make-up done for a special event. I bought the foundation they used. I realized that I was not as fond of it as I had been when I bought it- it was too light a shade for my complexion. Today I brought it in for an exchange. Because I paid cash, no receipt, no linked account email, they would not accept it for exchange. I did not want it. I have returned or exchanged items in the past, never with an issue or problem. I was surprised and disappointed. I told the sales clerk. I was not asking for a huge amount of exchange-1 small bottle of foundation. You sell it. I had my make-up done with it IN THE STORE. I came in to get my contour lesson as advertised in the Cosmo mag and was pleasantly surprised. Val was a cheer at the front door and even remembered my name when I left. I had the pleasure of being taken care of by Tracy! She is the cutest thing since baby gifs ;) not only did she teach me the techniques of contouring but she was a master at using her tools to help me find the perfect concealer, foundation, powder, and brushes so that I could look just as amazing as her! AND she even went out of her way to help me find a moisturizer. A male co-worker w glasses came to help us but I didn't catch his name... I had my make up done today by Janelle. I'm normally a mascara only person so I provided very little input and she did an amazing job! She also showed me a cleanser that is so great (ole henriksen-pure truth melting cleanser) I've always avoided the associates and now, after spending over an hour with them, I feel more comfortable to ask questions without feeling like I'm imposing on their day. It was a wonderful experience. I'll definitely be finding another excuse to have my make up done again soon. read more

One word. Overwhelming. Even midweek in the evening this place is a zoo! The employees are working their butts off. They're helping people as much as they can but they're bombarded by mobs of people seeking beauty assistance. Ever feel alone in a crowded room? Yep. That was me. People go there because they can try before they buy. They can get an expert opinion on whether the make up makes them look good, clownish, or like a street walker. My advice? Go with a friend just in case you're unable to flag down assistance. I did get a brief second opinion on eye shadow and a lipstick which I ended up purchasing. They were helping other people, so I mean it was a brief second opinion. Sephora offers a wide variety of popular brands but it's truly overwhelming if you're not sure which brand is best for you. I'd say make an appointment to have a consultant help make you over and choose what's right for you. read more

Wow, great customer service! From the gentleman who greeted me at the front door to the makeup artist (Ginnel) who took such great care of me. I pretty much only purchase make up from sephora and because of Ginnel I only get my make up here too. She literally is the best, I always request her even though they can never guarantee. O-M-G!!! They had the Hello Kitty perfume necklace in stock yesterday so I snatched the 2nd to the last one! Anyway, I must say I love love love this Sephora compared to the bigger one across the mall. EVERYBODY here at this location has always given me such exceptional customer service. I'm always greeted w/such sincerity & warmth. Much more pleasant shopping experience than the other one. It may be a lot smaller but this is actually my first choice Sephora just because the guys & gals here are genuinely kind, very knowledgeable, always advise me on the right kind of products that I'm looking for & it doesnt take like 30 friggin minutes to get some assistance. Such petty staff unfortunately. They will tell you that you can't return anything that you buy at the big Sephora store. YOU CAN!! Show them the back of your receipt!! Came in to buy a product, they didn't have it. Walked across the mall to buy it at the bigger Sephora and then I remembered my JCPenny Sephora gift cards so I went BACK to see if I can just do an exchange that way I get to just use the gift cards and toss them. Crystal; who was the cashier had told me I couldn't because they're receipts had the "big S " on them and they are too different that they're machines can't read them. Thought that was off but whatever. Went BACK to the other Sephora and returned the item. On my way out I ended up asking lost prevention and asked him if I'm able to return any Sephora item at an Sephora location and he told me indeed I can. He showed me the back of the receipt and it says right there that you can. He then told me that they don't like having their sales go down so usually when a customers looks for something that they don't have in a specific color, they tell their customers to buy it in a different color there and return it for a different one at a different store. I also called Sephora customer service center and he notified me that you can indeed return an item at any Sephora and for the inconvenience they had caused me, he gave me an extra 200 points on my account! So I went back to talk to a manager and the manager of the day even eventually came out with that that yes you can return an Sephora item at any Sephora store. It is just so unprofessional and petty to do that to your customers and neighborhood Sephora when you work for the same company. It even got me thinking how they probably do this to pregnant woman or other customers who can't walk or have a hard time walking! read more

Every time I go into Sephora it's crazy busy, but I decided I'm going to grab what I need and leave so I went to the one at plaza Bonita and this lady said 'oh no you should try this and that' so I took her recommendations (everything she showed me as like double of what I was going to spend) I told her the type of skin I had and how I'm super dry and she recommended Kat Von D which was horrible for my skin! BUT I came to fashion valley last night to exchange everything! ( they didn't even apply my point on my beauty card) and I Had this girl Kylee help me out, she was WONDERFUL and I'm telling you she didn't try to up sale anything I told her what I needed and she gave me samples of what she recommended I fell in LOVE with all the products so this morning I went back to purchase 5 more items! I called about a palette on Tuesday. They told me to call back on Friday when it opened. I did, they said they didn't get any in. I called later to ask if they would get it at all, they told me they got some today and ran out. Came here today because I wanted to try the Bare Minerals Blemish Remedy collection that's exclusively sold in Sephora. I've been a long time user of Bare Minerals and I always purchase from their boutiques because the ladies are always super nice, helpful and friendly. Now, I know why I will never ever again attempt to go to Sephora. This place sucks ... To say the least. Unless you walk in there with a face full of make up, looking like Nikki Minaj, the sales people won't give you the time of day. So, the lady who "helped" me was ERINDIRA. She was the first person I saw when I walked in, so I told her what I was looking for. I explained that I don't wear much make up, but my face has been breaking out so I wanted to try the Bare Minerals Blemish Remedy collection. She used this IQ matching machine on my skin and preceded to ask me questions whether I want it to match my face or my skin. Every response I had, she just seemed annoyed and had attitude. I then asked about concealers, and once again, she seemed uninterested in helping me. I told her I don't use it so I don't know what brand to get. Again, she looks at me with a blank face. She finally tries on a couple of colors on me, one was too dark and the other too light. I told her my concerns, and she agreed. Then she just stands there once again staring at me. Umm hello ... There's like a gazillion make up choices in this store?!? She only had one brand to match me with?!? When I told her I didn't really like how it looked, she agreed and preceded by saying, okay I'll just ring you up for the powder. Umm ... How about hell no ... I wouldn't waste my money in this store seeing that you were the least interested in helping me ... Until it's time to get commission!!! She never even offered me to sit on the chair to properly assist me. Needless to say, I will never come back to this store. I'll take my business somewhere else with better service, like the Bare Minerals boutique around the corner! And you better be sure your corporate office will be getting a long email!!! read more

I've given this Sephora several chances before I wrote this review. This last time (their third chance), was the last straw. I was greeted by NO ONE. I was asked if I needed help by NO ONE. I even tried just genuinely looking dumb and lost and several employees walked past me with no acknowledgement. One employee even like tilted her head down as she walked past me even though I had caught eyes with her and started to do the "raise my eyebrows, open my mouth" look to signal for help. I understand what it is like to be so busy that you can't just satisfy all your customers 100%. But can I at least get a "hi there, we will be with you as soon as possible"?!?!?! The girl that just walked in wanting to buy foundation, bronzer, lipstick, mascara and a new palette just walked out because customer service is EVERYTHING. read more

I walked into this store and was greeted, I told the guy exactly what I was looking for and he pointed me in a direction that wasn't to far from him where he continued to stare at me. A few seconds later a women walked in and he greeted her and asked what she was looking for and called over his mic to have someone come up front to meet her. Not only did he point me to the oppositeof what i told him I was looking for, two more employees were staring me down and didn't bother to ask me if I need help as another walked right past me. As I was walking out to leave he asked me did I find what I was looking for I told him no and mentioned about the other three employees that watched me and didn't offer any help. Super crowded on a Friday after lunch and no assistance from anyone. Long line on the check out but friendly staff.

There has only been one time that I came to this store where someone was actually friendly and helped me. Other than that, I basically get ignored. Last time I came in looking for a contour kit, and I'm not big/good on makeup so I don't really know what to buy. While I was looking at one, a sales associate asked if I needed help with anything and I replied that I was just thinking about whether this would be right for me. She said "Okay." and walked away. No offer to use the sample on me or give me any info on it. I bought it and ended up returning it. As I'm standing in line (and the store is basically empty) 3 employees walked by the cash register and no one offered to help me. I even think two of them were managers. It's pretty ridiculous and I would much rather go to MAC where they are much more friendly and helpful. read more

RUDE and INCOMPETENT staff. I went to exchange the Guerlain foundation that I purchased to a different shade. The shade was not in stock so I asked a staff and she said she will check the back but instantly told me 'we probably don't have it' before even checking. She was also very careless in checking the bottom drawers and seemed reluctant to go check the back. I waited for almost 30 minutes and I had places to be so I couldn't wait any longer and walked up to the register to order it to be shipped. I waited another 10 minutes to hear that the staff could not find the shade. 40 minutes to find a makeup?? was she snacking in the back or something? I did not catch her name, but she was a big black girl. Another staff at the register finally ordered the shade for me. I told her what shade I wanted very clearly, multiple times. She even communicated with the black girl that was looking for the shade about what shade I wanted. Guess what. I just checked the shipping confirmation because I need to use it tonight and it's supposed to arrive before end of day today only to find that a WRONG shade is being delivered to my house. How incompetent do you have to be to take 40 minutes to find a makeup shade AND order the wrong shade online? Do you hire people based on incompetency at this location? You are making me waste my time and my energy so much and I am seriously upset. Loved this Sephora!!!! I usually buy my stuff online but I had a couple questions and thought I'd try going in to talk to someone! The store was super busy and you could tell all the workers had their plates a little full but it didn't stop them from giving me the best customer service ever! Answered all my questions, would stop whatever they were doing to walk me all the way across the store to the products I was looking for and helped me choose when I got confused. I got helped by a few people I wish I had grabbed their names but I had Anais write her name down on my receipt so I could shout her out! Super knowledgeable and great customer service (gorgeous makeup too but I guess that's to be expected at Sephora ). I went to Sephora because I was in desperate need of some new eye shadow and wanted to see if someone could show me how to do a smokey eye that would look good on me because when I try it I end up looking like a scary clown. I listened to other Yelpers and went in early (about a half hour after they opened) to avoid the crowds. The only problem with this is there was only one girl working (Sarah) so anytime someone came in she had to go help them. I am a patient person but it was more than a little embarassing sitting in the chair facing a main aisle with only one eye partially finished... In dark purples... I tried to keep my head down but was getting weird looks from everyone that passed and I spent more time sitting there alone with my eye of shame than actually having the makeup appied. When she was done it was a little (ok a LOT) more than I am comfortable with but that was my fault, I told her I wanted a smokey eye I just didn't realize it was going to be that dark. I was looking for something more everyday but I should have been more clear with her. Sarah was very helpful though. She answered all my questions and got me signed up for the rewards program. I settled on a beautiful palette and loved it even more once I got home and got to play with it. read more

I took my daughter to learn how to do a "smoky eye" and Jaime was so helpful. She taught both of us how to do a very gorgeous and age appropriate smoky eye. She also showed us some personalized skin care products and gave us samples, and her skin was flawless. I recommend asking for Jaime! read more
