My sister wanted to stop at this store and I was dreading it, because, there are always so many people and I don't shop here. To my surprise, it was such a nice experience! I credit every staff member for the positive experience. Staff floated around with ease, politely checking in on people and socializing with people. They were fun, knowledgable and seem to know exactly were everything was, to the location and shelf. Impressive. The staff member at the register - so nice as well. They had a lot of specials that day, discounts, combo purchase deals etc. It's a little crammed in there when there are a lot of people, so I wouldn't recommend bringing the entire family in the store, just those buying and helping with recommendations. Prices seemed reasonable for a boutique store. If my sister wants to visit, I won't hesitate to join her here for a little shopping fun. read more

I had a great visit to this Sephora today! I think it's pretty remarkable to have a shopping experience in a mall in December that's uplifting and overall a great experience. But that's exactly what happened to me today! I went in looking for a couple of skincare items I've regularly purchased at this location in the past. One I completely ran out of last night and one I was about to run out of. (I know I shouldn't have pushed it this close with my timing but I always avoid the mall in December until I really need to go). So I looked in the normal place and they weren't there. Figuring they had just loved locations, I asked and apparently they hadn't been stocked in store for months! Luckily the helpful associate (whose name I missed) helped me realize that Sephora no longer carries the brand but it was available online elsewhere. She said it's possibly being discontinued and advised me to purchase asap because of that, even though it wasn't through Sephora. Rather than encourage me to buy from Sephora, she helped me in the way that was best for me, which shows great customer service. And even after that, she helped find me some comparable products to give me free samples of to use until my online order arrives. She also explained which ingredients in the products I'm currently using might be good to look for in the future if the ones I'm using really do get discontinued. I've had amazing service every time I stop by this Sephora! I think they only carried Stila liquid eyeliner in one color last year when I was searching for it, but they carry all the colors now :) Although it's a tiny bit smaller than usual, it's compact and the staff is awesome. I stopped by over the weekend and I had 2+ people ask me for help before I made it to the checkout (and hey, I was moving PRETTY FAST). I was helped so fast that I even forgot to pull out my Wrapp coupon so I obviously have to go back before the end of the month to find something else that I absolutely (kidding!) need. I happened to be looking for a new moisturizer (WINTER IS COMING GUYS) and Alyssa recommended me three different brands to try, complete with sample and a small printout about the product. The Rep Deadra helped me so much to find the right foundation for my skin tone. The technology they have is amazing. It will help blend in the prosthetic I'm wearing for my show LOST BOY FOUND IN WHOLE FOODS at Portland Stage Company. Deadra was courteous and professional. I had purchased $30 eye shadow by Urban Decay from this Sephora in the fall sometime. I thought I was happy with it until I recently learned that there is TEFLON in it!!! (listed as ptfe). Best Sephora I have ever been to hands down! The entire team was super cool and accepting. I have been struggling with finding the right skin care products for too long. The tatcha products I bought broke my face out and it was a mess. They took the products back and helped me find something better for sensitive skin. Meaghan is amazing! I have never met anyone so knowledgeable, personable and helpful like her in any Sephora. You can tell she really knows everything about skincare! I've been struggling with dull-looking skin and blackheads and nothing seemed to really help. Meaghan, within several minutes was able to figure out what I really needed without trying to sell me products. Thanks Meaghan! This Sephora doesn't seem to stock as much compared to the ones at bigger malls, but they can always order things without costing you shipping. Staff are friendly and lines are never too long. Sephora also started carrying a lot of Korean and Japanese products. It's so nice to be able to try without committing to purchasing now! How can I forget?!? Sometimes you go to stores and the staff isn't very polite about helping you. This is not the case with Kyle at the south Portland location. He's helped me twice and every time I go in I always try to get his attention, because he is so helpful, polite, down to earth and does everything he needs to help me find what I'm looking for, and gives me options on different price ranges, and doesn't push me toward the most expensive things. Yesterday I stocked up on makeup for college and I've got to say...I LOVE this store! Every time I walk in a staff member welcomes me and assists me right away. Buying makeup used to be a chore for me, but now I look forward to it since going to Sephora. I've always found what I need and I always come out with more than I expected to! The service quality is truly above par compared to the local competitors Ulta and The Body Shop, and Macy's around the block. I love makeup, and Sephora is my house of worship. I've never had a bad experience there. The staff is always welcoming (manager Nicola greets me by name, that's how often I go there!), and always offer assistance if needed. I usually know what I'm looking for when I shop, but I'm not afraid to ask questions, and get thorough answers from a Sephora team member. Samples of certain products like foundations, lotions, etc. are available upon request, which is cool if you're looking to try something new, but aren't quite ready to commit. I love makeup, always have, and I love Sephora.. but one day I went in to pick up a few things and when I cashed out they asked me if I was interested in a credit card, I denied.. I then went on to ask the y'all dark haired male employee if I could get an application and he starts asking me all of these personal questions like my address and how much money I make a year saying that it's all for the application.. after we're done he says the application will be mailed to me.. suspicions I walk out.. a week later I get something in the mail from Sephora.. not an application, but a credit card I clearly stated I did not want to sign up for. I attended a class at Sephora offered this weekend. They open the store early and spend an hour detailing makeup techniques and tricks for free. I went by myself and there were two others who attended. The others had driven from further away than I did and I was surprised not knowing what to expect. I wouldn't have traveled very far for a free class at sephora personally. Now that I've been though I'm going to do it every time. The instructor was very engaging, helpful and informative. They didn't push you to purchase anything and I didn't. I definitely will be purchasing some of the products that were demonstrated in the class, just online. It seems like these classes will become a huge part of sephoras marketing strategy. I don't blame them, I'm sold! read more

I am consistently disappointed by this Sephora. While their selection of products is AMAZING, their staff leaves much to be desired. I've had maybe two positive experiences in here interacting with staff... one in particular led me to my absolute favorite eyeliner ever (Stila all-day liquid liner -- amazing). But I've had many more negative experiences, including a couple times where I've been downright insulted by people who were supposed to be helping me. I'm also a photographer and I've heard several horror stories from clients who either went there looking for makeup advice or went there to have makeup done. He listen very carefully to what I wanted - taught me what I needed to know, encouraged me, and showed me how to get the effect I wanted. I am so happy with the result! Even an inexperienced user like me can get a great look. I won't go bare face again. I went back to see Michael before I renewed my driver"s licence. He knew just how to adjust makeup for photos. He did a fabulous job. Its the best photo I've ever seen on a driver's license. I learned a lot too. I am not a make-up person... do'nt know how to put it on, don't know what to look for, I'm a 30 yr old novice. I usually lotion up my face, layer on the maskara and curl my locks -- that's it. Don't get me wrong, I like make-up, but I don't know how to use it (correctly) so I shy away. Yesterday, my sister and friend took a trip to the mall (which I usually try to avoid because it's so chaotic) and we obviously had to hit up the makeup department! Brandon (spelling??), you're my man! Each time I've gone in, he's helped me find what I needed. The first time I was looking for a fun lipstick... this took us about an hr because apparently my lips are a shade of purple and that is SO not my color. He created a lip concotion that I absolutely fell in love with; an orange base and a pink lip gloss to top it off.. created a beautiful, bright, salmon color for my kisser! Yesterday, I went in not really wanting anything. My friend knew exactly what brand, color, type of product she was looking for so we were planning for an in and out time frame. Brandon came to my rescue again. I inquired about a concealer that will last all day, not super noticeable, but made a significant impact on my skin without wearing lbs of it. He led me to this one right away. It worked magic. I don't know the name of it because, like I said, only a few, obvious, brands come to mind. He also worked a smokey cat eye on me, but that's a whole new task at hand. Either way, he's strong and educated on all of their products (maybe not the fragrances because I think there's a person for that) and will lead you what YOU want, not necessarily what they want for you. I'm not one to break the bank on much of anything, unless it's a crazy, amazing, dining experience, but this place is a crazy, amazing, beauty product party! I received the worst service from any business today from Sephora that I have ever experienced. I'm a single mom, shopping with my toddler daughter. I walk in pushing her in a stroller and I get no "welcome What can I help you with" only side eye and dirty looks. I'm in the store for well over 30 minutes trying to find a good highlighter and I'm comparing and contrasting highlighters from all brands. After about 15 minutes and a few swatches, I grab the rubbing alcohol to wipe off and clean what I've sampled on my hand. Literally out of nowhere the nasty rude woman who was working the cash register, so very loudly (basically yelling) interrupted her current guest and told them during their transaction that she would be right back with them. She marched over to me (literally pouting/ stomping) and very loudly scolded and demeaned me about how i " wasn't using the alcohol right and that I was wasting it" mind you I'm a regular at Sephora. I rack up so many points that I can always get a freebie when I checkout with my points. It's pretty obvious that as a single mom and the only colored woman in the entire store (working or customer) that my money wasn't welcome here. No "may I help you, what can I help you find? Did you have any trouble? Are you finding everything all right?" Even through the store was completely dead aside from like 3 other guests. All I got was a nasty rude miserable woman who shouldn't even have her job belittle, degrade and publicly embarrass me because she thought my money wasn't good enough. Mind you I have a very well paying job so money isn't an issue. If you hate your job find a new one. If I ever talked to a customer like that at my business of employment I would've been fired on spot. Never again. I went to Macy's and bought a nice highlighter from Mac. Unfortunately I will NEVER return. Employees should be held to higher standards of customer service instead of insulting them, treating them like dirt, and chasing them away. I do not need you, you need me as a customer. I can buy makeup elsewhere with better brands or even online. Absolutely disgusting I will never return. read more

I absolutely loved this Sephora. I have been to a few others, but this one is definitely as good as it gets!! I went in looking for a new perfume. I have never been able to find one that I love. I tried explaining what I was looking for... something warm and cozy, not fruity or floral, and not over-powering. I didn't want to smell like grandma. The male sales associate at the store directed me to the Lavanilla line (which I had never heard of!). He showed me the Vanilla Grapefruit scent. It's perfect!! I made an appointment for a make up session before a wedding, my sister recommended seeing Ashley as she had done a great job with her daughter's prom make up. A $50 purchase is part of the deal. All I can say is"WOW." I brought a photo of what I wanted, she asked me what make up I preferred and she worked her magic. Ashley has a theater background and wears dramatic to make up herself and knows her stuff. I live Sephora because they have the ability to use different brands. I loved all my Bobbi Brown purchases but the Byte stick was a favorite. Ashley is super knowledgeable about skin conditions too. I have laser treatment for rosacea and use Retin A. I love the company but am only giving 3 stars for this store because you NEVER get your free samples unlike every other Sephora in this country that gives them to you with every purchase, without asking!! I've also been brushed off when asking questions about lipsticks and coverage of certain foundations and made to feel like I'm asking dumb questions.
