This was quite possibly the worst, most disappointing experience I have ever had. We took our long…read morehaired dachshund in because she was consistently pooping blood. We were told there would be a wait, which was expected as it is a first priority based place. What was not expected was to be told either pay $165 to wait for hours in a room and then pay an additional $2000 for bloodwork, X-rays, etc. or to just pay the $2000 up front to "skip the line". No vet looked at her, there was no exam, there was not even an idea of what could be causing this or what they would be testing for. After discussing with my husband, we thought we would try to keep her comfortable at home until our vet opened in the morning. We were home for an hour and then our dog began throwing up blood as well as pooping it. I decided to take her back because I was so worried she was getting dehydrated. Her gums were looking pale at this point and the diarrhea and vomit was constant. I took her back in and paid the $165 for the room. They knew why I was there because I had already come in. They had me wait two hours before anyone came in. At this point, my dog had been having bloody diarrhea and bloody vomit for 8 hours NONSTOP. I had to go to the receptionist and ask for dog pads because my dog was getting blood all over myself and all over their floors. I also went to the receptionist after two hours had past and asked if anyone was coming to see my dog. She seemed surprised no one had yet. She went to the back room to ask and that's when I got really upset. Their walls are thin and I heard every word and someone back there had the audacity to say, "Well if she hadn't left we would have seen her already!" This made me extremely upset. I was already heartbroken that I could do nothing for my dog and feeling helpless and sobbing and to hear that was like a slap in the face. So when the vet tech came into the room I was really upset after he told me that two hours later all they would do is the $2000 blood work. I asked if they could get her fluids, anti nausea, ANYTHING TO MAKE HER COMFORTABLE while we were waiting. He refused and repeated what I heard through the walls. That it was my fault I didn't stay earlier. I was even told that I would have to leave her overnight...the place closed at 7 am and it was already 3:30 am at this point. By the time they did all of this testing and got me results and a treatment plan, I could have taken her into her vet that opened at 7:00 am and that's exactly what I did. And that's when I made the decision that I would rather have my dog of 7 years die in my arms at home then give one cent to these people. I got ahold of her amazing vet and they got her in right away, knew immediately that she had HGE based on her symptoms and giving her a BASIC physical examination, and started treating her immediately. I paid $2,800 for EVERYTHING: bloodwork, xray, medications, treatment, hospitalization for three days, etc. When I was being asked to pay $2000 up front at this place with no ideas of what it could be and refusal to start anything that could possibly make her feel any better. My problem was not the wait. Or the order of priority. My problem is that they will not do anything to help your dog when it is clearly in distress and dying without intervention. Fluids are a BASIC essential to vomiting to help with dehydration. So is an anti nausea. Anything to stop the vomiting or diarrhea and then they could have ran every test in the world. On top of that, I was basically shamed into trying to make the best decision for the dog that I love and consider family. I'm so disturbed by this place and how they so clearly prey on vulnerable people in the Central Valley who have no where else to go in an emergency. I will never go here again and I hope you read the reviews on here and make the same decision.

The place is very easily located on Blackstone very close to Hearndon. The practice is physically huge, and extremely well kept up. The lobby is clean, spacious and very client oriented with a phone charging station, coffee, tea and snacks available. Even late at night there were two folks manning the front desk, and let me tell you, they are rock stars: calm, patient and unflappable, friendly and caring. Everyone we dealt with that night was calm, professional and empathetic. Our issue was serious, and got immediate attention. The doctor was calming and knowledgable, and gave us very complete information. We were there a long while that night and into the next morning, and staff was the same with everyone who came in. The hospital is remarkably well equipped. Vet medicine is never quick, but it was clear they were doing their best throughout. We HIGHLY recommend these folks in general, but especially for after hours emergencies. One note: they are very good, but this is not an inexpensive option.

1-Star Review -- Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more I brought my dog Ellie to Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency when she was already extremely sick, and we were very worried about her. The first thing they did was hand us a $780 estimate/authorization to sign so they can perform a triage. We did NOT sign it. We asked for an emergency exam because we needed to know what was wrong with our dog. What was extremely frustrating was that the emergency exam basically consisted of us telling the vet what was wrong. They did not check her vitals or perform any testing until we agreed to additional charges. They then presented us with another charge of about $300 to test for parvo, which we agreed to. It came back negative. They then offered to check her blood sugar, which was another additional charge. Her blood sugar was 28. We were repeatedly told that Ellie would not make it if we didn't hospitalize her. We asked what other options we had, and they offered a dextrose injection, explaining that it might raise her blood sugar within 15 minutes to an hour. But insisted that it would not be enough to help her. We agreed to the injection anyway and signed for the treatment. Afterward, they told us they did not recommend taking her home because she would not make it through the night. We took her home anyway. On the way, we bought a blood glucose meter so we could monitor her ourselves. Ellie continued getting worse, and we were even considering taking her back to euthanize her because we didn't want her suffering. Before doing that, I checked her blood sugar myself. It was over 400. Her blood sugar had been 28 at the hospital and was over 400 after the dextrose injection. I am not a veterinarian, so I cannot say whether the dosage was too much, but seeing such a drastic change while my dog was getting worse was terrifying. I decided not to give up on her. I stayed up with her, syringe-fed her, gave her water, monitored her blood sugar, and cared for her through the night. Ellie survived. She is now doing amazing and is completely fine. What makes this experience even more upsetting is that this was the third time my family experienced something similar at this hospital. The first time was with my brother's dog. He was told essentially the same thing -- that there was no hope for his dog. Unfortunately, he trusted that information and made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize her. The second time was with my sister's dog. She was also told there was little to no hope and was presented with numerous tests and charges. My sister decided to take her dog home instead. Her dog got better. Then it happened to me with Ellie. After what happened with Ellie, this was my last straw. I understand emergency veterinary care is expensive, and I understand that tests and treatment cost money. My issue is feeling like you cannot get real answers or options without continually agreeing to additional charges, while being told your pet has little to no chance. I truly believe Ellie could have died if I had simply accepted what I was told and given up on her. I will never take another pet here again. If you bring your pet here, ask questions, make sure you understand exactly what is included in the exam, ask about alternatives, and don't be afraid to get a second opinion.

This company produces Target's Kindfull pet food. Some private label stuff…read more In September 2023, my dog had their chicken and rice small breed dog food and had bloody diarrhea. It took a couple days to connect the dots unfortunately but I immediately took her to the emergency vet. I have vet records showing she had no bodily trauma, no illnesses, no viruses. The only change was I opened a new bag of dog food, fed her it, and she was spraying thick bloody goo all over. The vet tested her poop and found nothing but they didn't test the food because for all of us, it was a no brainer. Well no, it has been months and it's still impossible to get in contact with this company. Target uses Sedgwick claims (which has been helpful) but kindfull has dodged emails and calls. In an email in December, they responded and said they closed the case because their food has really good testing and maybe me exposing their food to air or my hands contaminated the food. ??? Are you serious? The same air and hands all of her other food have been exposed to. I made it clear that it only happens after she eats this because I fed her some of the food at the vet office to replicate what's been happening. She has diarrhea within 20 minutes. Fast forward to today, I call Target to let them know that kindfull has been dodging me and Sedgwick and only has a contracted vet speak for them. On the phone with Target, she reveals its actual Perfection per food who is Kindfull. I just checked the label and no where does it mention that. I wouldn't trust kindfull dog food or treats anymore as there is clearly some shady practice going on to avoid being accountable or seen in a bad light. I honestly just wanted the cost of the dog food and vet and missed worked covered. All of this over $400 to a company valued at $235 million is nuts.

So by looking at the signs that was saying no driver beyond this point which was the door to a warehouse, i still entered it to see what was taking so long. I could not see those people that I was checking in with, so I entered a warehouse and came up to a forklift driver and I asked him what was taking so long. He asked me who I was, and then he told me that he doesnt even know that I'm here. Apparently, there was a shift change and workers didn't communicate between each other. So I was forgotten. Its 9:30pm and they told me that they will start loading me in about an hour or so. So good advice for the drivers: keep walking to that office and make sure they're on track. If they cant communicate between each other make sure you communicate with them. Otherwise you will stand there for a while.

We thought she had hurt a hind leg and was just in pain. Doctors did X-rays and blood work. X-rays were good but the blood work showed an infection along with a fever. Docs put her on fluids for her dehydration and gave her IV antibiotics. After a couple of days in the hospital her fever was down and her blood work looked closer to normal, but she still wouldn't eat. We went out on Saturday night and spent about an hour with her trying to calm her and get her to eat. When we got there she had a petrified look and was scared to death. We were able to talk to her and pet her but still couldn't get her to eat. Doc said she might not eat there because she was so scared. We left her one more night for the fluids and antibiotic IV and a recheck of her blood work on Sunday morning. Temp was down and blood work was close to normal so we brought her home. After checking out the backyard and house she and our other cats all relaxed. She's eating and drinking like crazy now and just demanding attention. Everyone at VCA was great! From the receptionists to the technicians and doctors! Thank you for the wonderful care our little girl got! You all are fantastic!!

These incredible people saved my dog Benji's life…read more Benji was diagnosed with IMHA, and his platelet count was continuing to drop. My husband and I were absolutely terrified and truly thought we were losing our baby. We brought him to Animal Emergency and Urgent Care, where we met Dr. Horton, and she immediately went to work caring for Benji. Dr. Horton was incredibly thorough, compassionate, and reassuring during one of the scariest experiences we have ever been through. Benji spent two nights in the hospital, and he had an amazing team caring for him around the clock. I had never left Benji anywhere without me before, but knowing he was in their hands gave me a sense of comfort and peace that I desperately needed. Dr. Hyman also cared for Benji, and speaking with her about his progress brought me some of the greatest comfort I had experienced in those incredibly difficult days. She took the time to explain things and made me feel like Benji truly mattered to her. This urgent care is a GEM, to say the least. Every staff member we encountered was hardworking, welcoming, compassionate, and genuinely caring. The facility was also exceptionally clean and, surprisingly, peaceful, which made such a difference while we were sitting there as nervous wrecks. I even appreciated the TV and the selection of shows and movies playing in the waiting room. It may seem like a small thing, but during those long, terrifying hours, having something to distract me helped more than they probably realized. I cannot thank Dr. Horton, Dr. Hyman, and the entire team enough for what they did for our family. They fought for Benji when we were afraid we were going to lose him, and they gave us our baby back. Writing this honestly brings me to tears. We will forever be grateful for the care, compassion, and expertise they showed Benji.
