He was incredibly thorough during our tour--no rushing, no skipping over details. He patiently answered every question and made sure we clearly understood how the community operates. His calm, knowledgeable presence immediately built trust. The CNAs and nurses were equally impressive. They were attentive, compassionate, and consistently greeted residents with genuine smiles. What really stood out was how client-centered they were. Every staff member we passed made eye contact, said "hello," and acknowledged each resident by name--as if each person truly mattered. It's rare to find a place where excellent care, kindness, and professionalism all come together so naturally. This review is from Jan. 2023…read more I write it - long overdue - for you to make sure there's been a change in management and underlying grossly negligent systemic conditions threatening patient safety since then. It was an incredibly dangerous stay. CA should shut the place down if those conditions persist. 1. Broken blood pressure machines. My parent needed his B/P checked several times a day, to adjust his medications. No one told me the blood pressure machine was broken. It was a traveling nurse who informed me to bring one in that actually works. 2. Failure to administer oxygen My parent was short of breath and needed oxygen one night and into the next day. He pleaded for oxygen. A traveling nurse told me all they had to do was text the doctor for oxygen tanks in his room - but no one did that. Stanford hospital finally intervened, getting him in-room oxygen tanks. But he never should've suffered like that. 3. Threatened discharges The Terraces threatened to discharge my parent for "refusing" to do PT. He never refused - he wanted to do PT! The PT notes clearly stated it was "too dangerous" for him to do the PT. The PTs had to help us fight the discharge. 4. Dairy given to lactose intolerant They regularly gave him food full of dairy, when he was marked as lactose intolerant. This made him very sick each time, increased his weakness and worsened his underlying health conditions. 5. Warehoused him For 2 weeks, no one informed the family of his medical condition preventing PT. Just left him lying in bed. After 2 weeks, a doctor said he'd adjust his medications. After another week, the doctor offered to increase the medications because he wasn't improving. But he wasn't improving because he'd never received the first dose! In increasing his medication, the doctor never checked whether he actually received the first dose level. Totally dangerous. Again - a traveling nurse was the one who checked. 4 weeks later, he started receiving the medication and could start the PT program. 6. Nurses didn't follow doctor orders Because nurses weren't following the doctor's orders, I taped handwritten signs to the wall over his bed, stating the doctor's orders in large print. My parent had to repeatedly ask the nurses to read my posted signs. In conclusion, if nothing is changed since 1/23, The Terraces should be shut down. It should be reopened ONLY under new management and AFTER it fixes the underlying systemic problems inflicting gross negligence in medical care on its elderly fragile patient population.

Not only is the food superb, but it is very much tailored to healing . Their PT and OT teams were on also fabulous. I learned so much what to do and very importantly not to do with my new knee . I learned so much that it was not a problem to continue these exercises at home. The staff recommended FOCUS as a Home Health company. They are absolutely excellent, thorough, reliable , the PT and OT and nurse have helped me tremendously. The nursing staff and the CNA's were so very good :they paid attention to medications very well. Not only that it was the right medication, but that it was the right time and the right dosage. I had my first postop appointment during my stay at the Vi and they arranged transportation that was quite helpful!! My two weeks there gave me the best basis for my new knee being unnoticeable and un painful very soon!

I agree that the health of people should be foremost, most especially those who are often confined to their rooms 24/7 from old age and/or disabilities. I don't know what department you work in, but if your mother, sister, brother or daughter needed care, I would hope you would not want them to accept living in a unit full of construction dust, much less with possible asbestos dust from a popcorn ceiling. Review: Not long ago I personally experienced, with witnesses, the results of the COVIA/Front Door rehabilitation process at Lytton Gardens next door. I also toured parts of Webster House. I have photographs and specimens of the materials that remained after unit rehab, and the things I was told by management align nearly exactly with what is quoted by the Attorney General in the case details below. Webster is attached to this property, was built around the same time and from my observations in using similar methods and owned by the same company. I would possibly have ended up in Webster Place SNS if/when my health degraded. Yelp oddly removed my original review, with their excuse, "because it wasn't clear that your review described your firsthand experience as a customer of the business." So specific and rapid, I'm curious why this happened because Yelp is so full of reviews that would be hard to verify were by people's "firsthand experience" at a business. He listened to our situation, provided me with insight and contact information on the local facilities, explained what I needed to know, and what to consider when reaching out to these prospective places. His advice was invaluable. He was always there for me, whenever I had questions. He was super responsive, emailing back or calling right away. And through this process my mom kept changing her mind about where she wanted to live (mid-peninsula near her friends, south bay near me), and so our requirements kept changing. Through it all Alan was patient and positive - something I really needed during this stressful time. I seriously have no idea how I would have handled this whole situation without him. Within the last year, I have had two family members -- neither a resident of the retirement community -- spend time in that new facility. This review is about the facility, not about the retirement community as I have no experience with it -- beyond meeting many delightful residents. Everyone working at Channing House is friendly -- they do a first-rate job of hiring topnotch people, not just the kind and knowledgeable nursing staff but all the employees who work behind the scenes to keep the place humming, greet visitors, drive patients to medical appointments, and bring gourmet meals to residents. Everyone gets personal attention. Our most recent experience was with the SNF, and everyone who came to visit the patient commented on how clean and cheerful it was. I was told that many of the residents of the retirement community volunteer in the SNF -- one of the volunteers said to me "we figure we are all going to spend time here at some point, so we want to make sure it's nice!" I credit Channing House with the fact that both my family members recovered from serious health setbacks and progressed to the point that they could be discharged back home. The location -- perfect for walks (and always lots of parking) -- is a nice bonus, and let us take outings to coffee shops, the nearby park, downtown library, and even Sephora.

They set the tone for this independent, non-profit retirement home. The staff from top to bottom has done a Herculean (and Sisyphusian) task of keeping residents and staff safe. The communication has been **daily** with outside family, including emails, voicemail blasts when necessary, and a weekly update by the head of Channing House via Zoom with all residents and family that wish to participate. The staff is working so hard and so effectively and sensitively to keep everyone healthy, comfortable, and well cared for. They are surrogates for all of us family who cannot be there in person. I will be eternally grateful to them for everything.
