Upscale ambiance in downtown Frankfort. The food was great. We had green fried tomatoes as an appetizer which were crisp and topped with pimento cheese. We had lasagna, which was very good and a large portion, and a white fish risotto feature. The risotto was cooked perfectly and was not heavy or too creamy. The fish was very flavorful too. The reason for four stars is that the cocktail game could be upped. I ordered an old-fashioned with Woodford and I'm pretty sure that I got a Manhattan with cloudy ice and a maraschino cherry. A few tweaks and they could have a good bar program in the heart of bourbon country. Give it a try and I don't think you'll be disappointed, just be specific about your cocktail request. We were passing through town, and hungry. So, we decided to stop. This place has won several "Best of Frankfort" awards. It's billed as "The best fine dining that Frankfort has to offer". If Serafini were the best of my town's offerings, I'd move. Or starve. Either is preferred to ever going back to Serafini. I ordered penne with pesto cream sauce. Just a hint for the chef - if the penne is floating in a green OIL SLICK, you're doing "cream sauce" wrong. The pasta is from a box. Lunch portions are $10. Kiddie portions? Also $10. My husband asked about this when the check came, and the waitress assured us that the portions were the same size (they weren't...kiddo's was MUCH smaller, but at this point it's totally moot), and our waitress "knew" this because they were all pre-portioned "in little baggies" in the kitchen. So...the pasta is from a box, and is pre-made, and sitting in little baggies in the kitchen... In "the best fine dining" restaurant that the Capital of Kentucky has? If it weren't for the dated-but-snooty decor, I'd have assumed that I was in Fazoli's. And the burger that my husband ordered... Forget ordering one if you want anything other than medium-well or well. They'll flat-out tell you that they won't cook it. I would never EVER come back here. We were there during "lunch", but took a look at the dinner menu. Serafini must be out of their quasi-italian gourd to think that such food is worth $30 per entreé. Not sure what I can say that hasn't been said. We sat outside and asked our waitress what varietal was in a certain wine because we couldn't remember (they have several different kinds). She asked us if it would say it on the bottle. It might but why are you asking us? She returned saying she couldn't find out. Really? Because while you were inside not finding it out, we googled it. The funniest thing though was the mom and her children who sat in the restaurant's table right next to us with their McDonald's food as though this was the public park. The restaurant didn't say a word to them. They ate and then left leaving the table dirty. My BF's halibut and risotto was delicious and my lasagna was good, not great, it's just lasagna after all. All the wonderful flavors. A bit pricey for a view of the high school hang out, but the food was spot on. The mussels app was soak your bread in it good and they tasted fresh, perfectly a touch pink and a good consistency - not too chewy but not at all dry. I loved my goat cheese, some kind of sweet roasted pecans that were more than your average honey roasted nuts, apples, and this sweet and tangy dressing that is literally making my mouth water 5 hours later. And I'm still stuffed. I had the Seafood something or another (top of the list) with scallops, shrimp, mussels again, and a perfect addition of sundried tomatoes. The flavors flawlessly coexisted on my plate and in my mouth. Yum. The scallops were tee-niny and there were only 2 shrimp which I thought was a bit skimpy for 26 bucks, but there were tons of mussels and it was very good, so I was a-okay with it :) Quaint little street and it does fill up on a weekend, so definitely call in a reservation. I was pleasantly surprised with the courtesy and cleanliness of Serafini. Previous reviews did not give Serafini the credit they deserve. The reverse cast-iron sirloin with mashed Yukon gold potatoes was fantastic. Jerrod, our waiter, was phenomenal. He made us feel welcome and special. Jarrod, with the ingenuity of the chef, orchestrated getting us grilled carrots for our veggie. I highly recommend Serafini. read more

I just walked out of this restaurant. I ordered a drink and a side salad upon speaking to my waiter the salad came first and it was disgusting the ends of the spinach leaves were black and there was totally degrading melted lettuce in the bow, if I wanted lettuce that gross I would go to my own refrigerator. The salad was immediately pushed to the other side of the table, I was still waiting for my drink a half hour after sitting when I watched my waiter from across the way force my Cocktail onto another table as they insisted it was not theirs, I got up and started to walk towards the table, when one of the patrons ultimately just accepted my drink/cocktail. I started to walk back to my table and then realized that I was just not in a restaurant that was up to my standards I followed the waiter to the bar and told him you just gave my Manhattan to the other table to which he insisted he hadn't even though I just watched it happen. read more

The service was great (which is the reason for three stars instead of two) but the food was just "meh". Note, the beer cheese app is served cold. I find this weird. Was there on NYE, party of 4. Restaurant was practically empty. Two 16 year olds working the door, seemed like only one waiter for our entire side of the restaurant. Looked like the bar area was getting more and quicker service. The waiter didn't know the menu enough to recognize what several people ordered without looking at the menu. Most of the food that came out was a bit overcooked. One person ordered a crusted prime rib med. rare and it came out medium well. I had some sage chicken on a bed of fancy mushroom cheesy risotto. My chicken was fine but the risotto was burned a bit on all sides and had the outside texture of a hashbrown. The wine I ordered was decent and the white russian someone ordered was made with 2% milk. There was a lot of bourbon in house as another person had 2 doubles of I believe Elmer T. Lee, the world's best bourbon. We had to wait a really long time to get our app salads and a really long time to get our meals. Dessert was like, why bother? So we left about $200 poorer. The meal took a long time to get out to us, service overall was basically awful and the food was mediocre. read more

The table was broken, and I spent the majority of my time waiting fixated on the large crack The waitress was very nice but extremely busy. Over the course an hour we never had or drinks refilled, or a straw. The meal was unappealing and more importantly tasteless. It was some type of pasta dish that included sausage. The noodles were lightly covered with Alfredo sauce. Most of it had pooled to the bottom of the bowl, I had to mix the bowl to cover the noodles. I'd imagine this was due to sitting under a heat lamp. The sausage was spicy yet had zero flavor. I have never sent a meal back until this meal, and will not be returning. read more

I had a Recommendation from 'Tim Farmer's Country Kitchen' for when I moved to Frankfort to try Serafini's. Once I moved in town I went to Serafini's for lunch. It was 20F outside but when I stepped inside Serafini's I felt their warm atmosphere draw me in. The elegance and colors of the room highlighted the history of Frankfort with it's old world sculpted high ceilings and decor. The lighting bathes the room in warmth and intimacy. The rear of the restaurant opens up to the old pharmacy who's has been transformed into a gorgeous oaken bar while waiting for your party to arrive. I was greeted by Carlos who was more than happy to give me the history of the establishment. The menu is a mix of continental and fine dishes. I ordered the Sausage Carbonara and tea. The sausage is sourced locally here on Kentucky and the quality of the meat was out of this world. The flavors and aroma of the fettuccine and sauce was like nothing I have had before with it's richness, it's fresh cheeses and vegetables. I knew instantly this was the best Sausage Carbonara I had ever had. The prices are very reasonable and the quality and service here is unrivaled. If you want a place to take friends, family, that specific al someone or colleagues for a warm dining experience you must experience for yourself. I will be dining here often now read more

Maybe the bar is low because there aren't many restaurants in downtown Frankfort, but this place was awful. We sat at the bar and had to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to come over and take our drink order. The smell and cleanliness level of the restaurant did not make us want to stay, so we only ordered a caprese salad. It's hard to mess up tomatoes and mozarella, but somehow they did it. Stay away!!! Did a banquet for our mothers birthday. We set this up weeks in advance and had requested Filet Mignon at a set price for all. To our surprise when we sat down to eat they were all out of Filet, but offered Rib Eye as a substitute. After 3 orders of Rib Eye they were out. Everyone else was stuck with Beef Tips. When the bill came everyone was charged for the Filet. To add insult to injury the food was cold. I had also ordered specific wine at $27 dollars a bottle and after one bottle they again were out. They were more than happy to replace it with a $47 dollar bottle. Felt like a "bait and switch" scam to me. Needless to say I will never do business with this establishment again.
