We had Serendipity cater our wedding at The Wayfarer on Whidbey Island on September 6, 2015 and they were amazing!

The service is friendly, knowledgeable and excellent and the food is creative and interesting. Whidbey tends to do classic dishes well but is a bit light on the innovative creative dishes - this place makes up for that gap. We had the asparagus special on a potato puree which we loved as well as the "Curd" pizza which was super interesting. Bonus is the Roost has a water view!

I mean, wood-fired oven, eclectic ingredients, and local sourcing. What's not to like, right? Well... We ordered the sausage and added their garlic mushroom special topping. While the crust had just the right amount of char, it was really chewy. It may be grown and milled locally, but it lacked the crispness and airiness of a good Napolitano pizza crust. Also, we paid an additional $8 for the mushrooms. There were minuscule amounts on our pizza. There wasn't that much of sausage, either. We ordered a glass of Sangiovese and another of Tempranillo. They were imported and fairly acidic. Why not take advantage of the great WA wines? The guy handling the orders (dark hair and a good amount of ink) was great. He apologized that they had just run out of the Walla Walla onions we wanted to add to our pizza. He gave us a reasonably good estimate of the wait time. When we finished our wines and decided to change our dine-in to to-go, he made it happen with no issues, despite dealing with a long line of people placing orders.

A friendly welcoming staff and awesome menu offerings greet all when entering the clean & organized cafeteria type setting. The "menu" changes weekly, as posted online, so that's refreshing avoiding boring as often occurs in a medical cntr.; far beyond the expected "cafeteria" fare. We were lucky to have experienced the "Happy Hour" Thurs. special: "kitchen sink tater tots" as shown in my pic. Now this is a dish to be applauded; copious amts of perfectly crispy tots with your choice of "toppings" (fresh chopped tomatoes, purple onions, black olives, cheese sauces, fresh cilantro, sliced jalapenos, shredded cheddar/jack cheese, sour cream). Husband also had a bowl of the navy bean soup which he applauded. We saw staff coming in droves to indulge and for take out boxes, they recognize the quality & value. Our whole meal was less than $10, amazing!

Homemade soups, salads, burgers with fixings... again, basic, but affordable & the perfect place to feel like you are part of the community! Not cheap or a huge portion but worth every penny. Probably the most delicious use of saffron in a dish I've ever experienced, and although it was a little pricy for the serving size, it was worth every penny. Not usually a huge fan of mussels, but whatever magic they worked within their huge vat of broth turned them into something I couldn't get enough of. Thank you Paella House for opening my eyes to the potential of this beautiful dish. :)

I decided to purchase one serving for $14.33. They have seating for four at the truck so I ate the food right there. I was quite disappointed for two reasons. The portion is less than what would be considered typical of appetizers. I would probably need to purchase three servings in order to get full from their food. In addition, their seafood did not taste fresh. The mussels tasted dried out and the shrimp had no flavor and was "rubbery". The only thing that they had going was the flavor of the rice, which was decent. However, with such prices for average tasting food, and way below average sizing, I would not go back again.
