We came in for a Tuesday Lunch. The host told us they had nothing immediately available and it would likely be about a 10 minute wait. About 10 minutes later we were sitting at a window table overlooking Penn Cove. We were welcomed by a friendly server, Amanda, and placed orders for a bowl of seafood chowder to share, the green curry mussels, and the mussels rockerfeller. The chowder was packed with both seafood and flavor. It had great seasoning and herbs and was soooo much better than the one we wasted our money on further south on Whidbey. Both mussel dishes had excellent flavor. We took leftover chowder, mussels, and garlic bread home with us for another meal. We're looking forward to trying their other mussel preparations on our next visits! read more

Honestly not sure how the overall rating is less than 5. We came to Coupeville for our 6th Anniversary and the staff was so excited for us! We had a short wait time of about 45 mins, and it was worth every minute. The food was to die for, the atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and (again) the staff was delightful. I wish I had 5 stomachs so I could eat everything on the menu, but I guess I'll just have to come back! If you are looking for a nicer place to celebrate, go on a date, or even just take the family out for dinner, definitely go to Front Street! The view is amazing and everything just went right for us. Every time we're on Whidbey Island, I always make time to stop here for the mussels. They have so many fun flavors, but my go-to is the green curry and it's still the best mussels I've had in Washington. The mussels are always fresh, and the garlic toast is a must to dip in the sauce. Their cocktail menu is also really good with a lot of fun options, and the vibe here is one of the reasons I keep coming back. Service has always been good too. This is one of my favorite stops on Whidbey, and I'd easily recommend it if you're in the area. PS: Don't forget their dessert. So good. read more

What a delicious time at this quaint, sea side restaurant. I ordered the gnocchi which was so good, and "Greek style" (think tomatoes, olives, balsamic vinegar, etc). It was one of the most unique dishes I've ever had, and definitely a must if you're a vegetarian like me. My partner had the calamari which he loved, and the New York Strip Steak with veggies, which he also claimed was delicious. The drinks are great as well, I loved my lavender fields forever cocktail and he loved his huckleberry spritz (just as a warning, both drinks are a bit sweet). Been coming to the island since 2021 and this is the first time I've had dinner at Front Street. My girlfriend's mom talks about it highly and I highly anticipated having dinner with her there. Being Friday and bring 5pm, we probably should have made reservations, but decided against it. We did get one of the last two unreserved tabes, the "reserved" tables being at the window overlooking Penn Cover. It was a beautify evening and Mt. Baker was looking glorious, as we entered a full dining room. Odd, there was no one at the bar. We sat down and the first thing I noticed was the young child behind me screaming and crying and the parents ignoring the tantrum. After about 10 minutes the child was taken outside but this wasn't how I wanted to start a nice Friday dinner. But that isn't a knock against the establishment or the service, just an observation. We ordered a round of drinks, the Stoller Family rose and a pilsner from 7 Seas Brewing, along with the calamari appetizer. Drinks came quickly and were followed a few minutes later by our calamari. This gave me time to look at the art (for sale) hanging on the wall, lots of neat wood carved pieces that lent to decor of the place. The appetizer arrived and it was a nice size order of deep fried calamari and a pink side sauce for dipping. The breading was flavorful, crispy and not too heavy, lending to the flavor of the squid. The sauce as expected kicked it up a notch with just a hint of spice. Dinner, I opted for the fish and chips, because you can never good wrong with such a simple, filling dish. The white fish was thick and flaky, coated in a simple batter that was "GBD," golden, brown, delicious! The chips were actually thin fries and not the thick cut chips I was hoping for. Overall the chips were average, but the fish was wonderful with a dash of malt vinegar on top. My girlfriend's mom got the crab cakes and a side salad. Very generous with the crab and light on unnecessary fillers. Both cakes were lightly breaded and fried, served with a simple sauce and lemon wedge. All in a nice meal with good seafood. Our server was quite attentive, especially in a crowded setting, we never felt hurried and enjoyed our time together. read more

We did a weekend stay in Coupeville and came here for dinner! Absolutely loved this place. Food: The mussels were sooo fresh and good. I got the Rockerfeller Mussels (spinach, bacon and wine sauce). They also had an award winning jerk mussels (due to an allergy of mines I couldn't try them out. But a must try if you go). My wife had the caesar salad (not too special just plain) and crab cakes (very fresh and good). Service: very good customer service. I advised of my allergy and they were very cautious with my food. I brought my mom and Cousin here when they came to visit me on my long housesitting gig. There was some sort of festival going on downtown so I was a little afraid that it would be too busy for us to get a table, but we had about a 45 minute wait and while we waited, we just walked around to all the cute little stores. I got the Jamaican mussels with linguine added, and oh my gosh, I cannot even explain to you, the flavor, explosion and deliciousness. I was a little afraid when I saw Jamaican because I actually have a sensitivity to black pepper of all things which usually means I can't eat anything that has jerk in the name which is what my mind immediately went to. These mussels, however, were so delicately flavored, but also so intensely flavored with the mixture of Jamaican spices and coconut milk and with some fresh fruit like mango added in. It was absolutely phenomenal. My mom got the crabcakes entree which comes with a salad. Their Caesar dressing is definitely homemade. It made me close my eyes in ecstasy. Then my cousin got the garlic, shrimp prawns - I think that's what it was called. He said his dish was absolutely delicious as well. Before visiting her for lunch I read the reviews and was quite skeptical but after my wonderful experience I am excited to go back. I was able to snag the last table overlooking the water since I arrived early and it was a gorgeous view. Our server Tina was so sweet and attentive and truly made the experience just that much better. I ordered the Cesar salad with a crab cake and it was divine! The flavor and texture of the crab cake was absolutely perfect, and as a crab cake connoisseur, I was very pleased. I am looking forward to getting the crab cake entree or appetizer so I can eat 2 of them! The fries were also very tasty and the lavender lemonade was delicious! Perfect amount of sour and sweet. Their cioppino was rich and flavorful with a wide variety of seafood including mussels, clams, squid, baby octopus, and shrimp, all in a tomatoey broth. We always stop by here for mussels in Whidbey and they were delicious as usual. We got the Jamaican spice mussels with linguini which were a light curry flavor. The mussels are nicely cooked and the portion is large. The reason for the 3 star review is because they have a 15% auto gratuity on their online ordering portal (for take out) that can't be removed or changed. I like ordering takeout for this restaurant, so we can have our food by the time we get to Coupeville, and we take it to eat on the tables by the pier. In addition, I order takeout on online web portals all the time, and have never seen an auto gratuity added especially not for just one dish. Still enjoyed the food and I don't mind tipping on takeout, but I think it's crazy to have it set as an unremovable auto gratuity. read more

Where do I start. They have mussel farms in the bay in front of them. We had an order of Jamaican mussels and Thai coconut mussels. It was like being at the steps of heaven. They were plentiful and large and the garlic bread you order with it soaks up the juices from the sauce. I almost licked the bowl it was so good. The Brad was crunchy outside soft center with plenty of garlic. The setting is comfort and yet classy and sits right on the water. Our server was very on point and kept our drinks full and answered any questions. I saw another customer eating a seafood pasta that I was tempted to take a fork and try. While I was on vacation in Whidbey Island, I visited Coupeville. These are a must try when visiting Front Street Grill-they were the best mussels I've ever had. The mussels were locally caught in Penn Cove and you could tell they were fresh the moment you ate the first one. I loved the flavor, and the spices/vegetables/coconut milk they used for the Jamaican curry went very well with the fresh mussels-i would highly recommend this dish (and I can see why this dish won awards). I'm usually not a mussels fan, I prefer clams, but I'd definitely order this dish again. My bf and I shared the crab cakes with Caesar salad and as a group we shared the white wine mussels. Both dishes were great we enjoyed them. Popped in for dinner since I'm in town for a marathon. We had reservations elsewhere but this menu was so appealing. Happy we came since it was quite busy and progressively got busier. We ordered crab cakes to start and they were a bit tart and salty but the salad was nice and their inhouse dressing today was super tasty, I got the halibut burger with fries and the it was very good. The bun was slightly sweet, had a good toast on it and it was t oily to the touch. The fish was a little dry and the piece was small (it left about half of the bun empty), veggies were fresh and fries were amazing- that super crispy but soft and seasoned to perfection. Partner got the white wine mussels with linguine and it was very good too- tons of fresh mussels, just needed a bit of salt. We opted for the mixed berry crumble even though we were stuffed and it was sooooo good, warm without being hot and the ice cream kept its structural integrity. Service was attentive and friendly. It tasted like curry and the mango bits were refreshing. The sauce paired with mussels and bread was amazing! For the whidbey mussels, the mussels itself were of the same quality - super soft and tender. However, i wasn't a fan of the pretty strong wine taste, but i imagine it'd be right up the alley for those who enjoy the taste of wine! The non alcoholic raspberry mint drink was also pretty good. Spent the day at Whidbey Island to celebrate a birthday in our family, and waited over an hour to end our day with dinner at Front Street Grill. It was awful and I'm not sure which was worse- the food or the attitude of the three servers we had. The food was bland and tasteless, and although we tried really hard to make it work by adding in salt and pepper to everything, it was still terrible. We decided to box all of our half eaten dishes and "fix" them at home since it would have been a shame to waste all that food, but while we were boxing the first couple of dishes one of the servers decided to clear the other half of our table without asking. The servers were all rude and honestly pretty disinterested in serving us overall, so this wasn't surprising at all. Simple questions like, "is this the Mac n cheese from the kids' menu?" (as I pointed to the huge plate of penne pasta covered in cheese they'd served us earlier), were answered with attitude and a "Yes, that's how we make it, you ok with that?" in a rude and aggressive way. When I told the server as we were leaving that the food had been really bland and also that the other server had cleared our plates without asking, all she said was "Ok." I then told her that we'd also felt very unwelcome throughout our time there, and she simply said "Ok" again. She clearly couldn't care less, especially since we were a party of 8 and a 20% gratuity had already been added to our bill (totally ok in normal circumstances, but these girls had definitely not earned it in this case). Overall, the service and attitude reminded me of something I'd expect to see at a McDonald's- not a high end restaurant like this one. read more

Love the mussels here. My go-to favorite is the Whidbey mussels in red wine, however I tried the award winning Jamaican mussels this go around. Loved the melody of flavors; not too spicy, not too sweet. Steak was perfectly cooked, and the butter smashed potatoes were amazing. The burgers, sandwiches, and chowder are also local favorites here. Lots of GF options on the menu and the staff is very knowledgeable and safe regarding food allergies/celiac. Ambiance was not loud at all and boasts spectacular views of Mt Baker behind Penn Cove. Usually a wait for a table at peak hours so put your name on the list and relax outside on Front Street. We boated over from Edmonds for the first time today. The restaurant isn't very big but has great views and is cozy enough. I wish I liked mussels because the tables around us looked amazing as far a presentation. Our server was kind and for the most part attentive. Missed some empty waters and such but oh well. Fun drink menu. We had the crap dip that was more mayo than crab. The bread it came with was delish. Fish and chips were good and the Ruben was great. We took a spontaneous trip to Whidbey Island and decided to try Front Street Grill for lunch. Since it was a bit unplanned, we walked in during lunchtime, and it was packed. So, I would definitely recommend folks make a reservation. They took our number and buzzed us when a table was ready, which was great because then we didn't have to sit in there waiting. We were able to walk around and visit other shops while we waited. About 45 minutes later, our table was ready. Our server was kind and helpful with mocktail suggestions. We ordered mocktails and the crab artichoke dip appetizer. The mocktails were tasty, and the crab artichoke dip was delicious, served with a very generous amount of garlic bread. For our mains, our table ordered: Whidbey Mussels: The mussels tasted very fresh. The port, blackberry liqueur, and red wine sauce was very sweet. I have an extreme sweet tooth, so I really liked it, but the other two in our party did not like it as much. They said it was way too sweet. We added two slices of garlic toast for an additional $4.50. -Chicken Bacon Pesto Caesar Wrap: Really tasty and refreshing. -Bobby's Raspberry Jalapeño Gouda Bacon Burger: THIS IS A MUST TRY! We loved it! It is a perfect blend of savory, spicy, and sweet. The restaurant is small but charming, with big windows. The food portions are very generous, and we were very full and satisfied. My only complaint is that we didn't really get checked on often by the staff. Other than getting our food and bill, we didn't really see our server or get offered any water or beverage refills. For our stay in Whidbey Island this past weekend, I was looking forward to trying the Front Street Grill having read so many nice reviews in various blogs and publications. I made reservations to make sure we had a table. We arrived just in time for our reservation. Our table wasn't quite ready, so we had to wait a few minutes. I looked around it was a nice enough space, but nothing really special to note. They did have a decent view overlooking the water. We tried a few things: - Whidbey Mussels - Not good. The mussels themselves were good and plentiful, but the port, liqueur and red wine made it too sweet. - Bourbon Creme Mussels - Not good. Same problem as the Whidbey Mussels in that it was simply way too sweet. - Tomato Soup - Not good. My daughter generally likes tomato soup, but she didn't like this one. I tried it, and didn't really enjoy it either. Couldn't finish it. - Wagyu Spider Steak - Partly good. Steak itself was nice, but a closer to medium than the medium-rare we asked for. Potatoes were quite good, but the vegetables were extremely plain. Service was friendly and attentive enough, so no concerns. Overall, a disappointing meal. I was happy to see the different variety of mussel preparations, but didn't enjoy either of the dishes we got. Rest of the food wasn't outstanding, and the meal was very expensive for the quality we got. read more

My friends and I ordered a smorgasbord of items, including the Whidbey and Copenhagen mussels, pesto prawn and garlic pasta, Wagyu Kobe burger, and Whidbey salad, which were all delicious. Loooved the Whidbey salad -- the strawberry vinaigrette was so delectable and paired nicely with the berries in the salad. Of the two mussels, the Whidbey mussels were the clear winner for our group -- tried and true for a reason! This place is known for mussels, but don't sleep on the burgers!! The Wagyu Kobe burger has a humble presentation, but it was actually my favorite dish -- perfectly juicy and tender. Not to mention, the bacon jam is the stuff of dreams...
