I decided to give an update since it's been a couple of years. As of now, I've been going to DeeDee for about 5 years. After trying out different stylists with less then stellar results, I have to say DeeDee does exceptional work! Especially considering my hair is not processed, other stylists have not been able to get the right degree of straight and bouncy that I prefer. My hair was grown a lot and become much healthier since she has been my stylist. She always works around my schedule and if I have an last minute event that I'd like my hair done for, 9 times out of 10 DeeDee finds time within her busy schedule to accommodate me. I always leave very satisfied and looking 10 times better than when I walked in lol. I really don't know what issues a reviewer is referring to about the quality of the work she does. I had a hair style that I kept in for 4 MONTHS (with regular maintenance)! But I have never been disappointed in the quality of her work, and I'm pretty hard to please with my hair! I've even had my hair done by Ashley once (another stylist there) when I was strapped for time and just walked in -- and after I told her what I needed she went out of her way to make sure I left with the style I wanted and usually get. I also really love the atmosphere of the salon, it's open, spacious and very inviting with a large window that let's in a lot of light. I've been to other salons where it was really dark and cramped feeling. On the weekends, they even have fresh fruit and beverages while you wait. So basically, I'm very loyal to this salon because they're very loyal to my satisfaction! read more

Serendipity hair salon is not a place I would go back to. Not only did my hair fall down after 3 weeks, I went back to get redone. When I called to schedule a time to get it redone it took me a week to get a call back. By that time, my hair was falling out due to how bad it had gotten. When the owner did finally get back to me, she was completely inflexible with giving me a time to get my hair redone. The second time around, I used a staff member who was really sweet but I was disappointed with how much was cut off. I called to have more hair put in and no one had the decency to even call me back. Dee Dee is a wonderful person..she is sweet and SUPER funny. She makes you feel comfortable and always makes sure you are satisfied before you leave her salon. The atmosphere is nice and shes always on time. She's professional and not only is a great stylist but knows how to create great relationships with her clients..and that's why she has had the same clients for years! *including myself* I trust her with my hair and would never want anyone else touching it. She is diverse and can style anyone's textured hair. Just pull out a magazine and there you have it..She can transform you into Beyonce, Rihanna, or JLO if you want it.. I have been going to Serendipity for the past 5 years and have yet to have a bad experience. I work out and like convenience and recently, I purchased hair from DeeDee that i absolutely LOVE. It is bouncy and flows nicely. I pull it up when I work out and wrap it at night to begin my day. It is awesome. If you are tired of messing with these beauty supply stores and not getting what you pay for, and you want quality and beauty, I recommend the Brazilian hair. DeeDee is the best at what she does and she will keep it real. For maintenance, I am in and out within an hour in a half, most of which is dryer time. I look forward to my visits and can't imagine going in where else. read more

Ok...it has taken way to long for me to write this review but here it is. I had the most pleasant experience at Serendipity. I was ready for a change in my hair care world and I couldn't have lucked up on a better salon. Both Dee Dee and Ashley were very friendly, professional and most important truly customer oriented. When I asked Dee Dee a question about my hair services she was informative made suggestions and was willing to work with me on whatever I wanted! That is huge! The Salon has plenty of space and the atmosphere is warm and laid back with a little swankiness to it and great music. I was leaving on vacation and I really took a chance going to a stylist I was not familiar with ... scary right? But I was pleasantly surprised and Dee Dee sent me on that plane whipping my hair :) Btw I immediately received hair compliments upon leaving the shop! Can't wait for my next appointment! This review is long overdue because I've been to DeeDee 4 times and she does amazing work. I am African American and I wear my natural hair, I come in for pressing/flat-ironing, color, and occasional trimming. I was really scared about finding a new beautician when I moved to the bay area because many do not do well with natural hair (either they dont get it straight enough, they use too much product, it looks damaged, etc). DeeDee has my hair laid every time I walk out of her shop. My hair lasts so long without having to use more heat and it continues to grow long and healthy. She takes great care of mine and all of her other clients hair (I've noticed). DeeDee is also extremely friendly and I love to talk to her when I come to the shop. Her shop is very nice and I like that I can make my appointments online. BUT you have to make sure she confirms your appointment before you come. I was lucky to find her 6 months ago, thanks to Yelp! She is the only beautician I've been to in the bay area I will continue to go back. read more

I was referred by my best friend, who not only is good friends with DeeDee but who is ALWAYS rocking a brand new and amazing hairstyle, courtesy of. One day when I was complaining about how EVERYBODY who hears me say "A TRIM" always cuts my hair off, my bff told me about DeeDee and how she will not only listen, but show you how much she is about to cut. I made an appointment, but not before my cousin did, who I referred to DeeDee before I even got to experience her myself, and LOVED my hair (not my normal steam-coming-out-of-my-ears/want-to-cry reaction)! Made a promise to myself to maintain my trim schedule now that I have a person I absolutely trust, and just this last Tuesday decided to have my love put in layers all over, which I LOVE more than the plain-old trim! When I leave Serendipity, my hair feels the healthiest it ever has! She deep conditions me and only uses a little spritz when she's done curling, and my curls stay in for dayyyyyyyssssssss, but with that soft, touchable feeling! Dee Dee is amazing! I've been to many salons & stylists in the bay area & she's the best. MULTIPLE people have said, "Your hair is growing & looks so healthy." Before, my hair would grow, but break constantly, & I assumed this was normal because I had a relaxer + color. At my first visit she said, "Some thing's wrong -- your hair is breaking all over, not just in spots, so it must be one of the chemicals your other stylist is using." She correctly diagnosed the problem & changed the type of dye I was using. Now my hair is the healthiest, thickest & longest it's ever been. Dee Dee is the only stylist who listened when I said that I wanted my hair to grow long -- she said, "Fine, I'll trim your hair at every other visit". Yeah for Dee Dee! read more

I would not recommend this shop to anyone. First of all I paid $250 for a sewin weave and it was falling out 3 weeks later. I had gently shampooed it twice. I can't stand this unprofessional imp of a person. Her hair is never done - always in a stank looking cap. You are a stylist - DO YOUR OWN HAIR!!! I had to go to another stylist and fix the mess she charged me $250 for. DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to waste your money! read more

I came to this shop a couple years ago Ashley was my stylist... THIS WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE.. I went in for color cut an style my appointment was at 10am she showed up late like at 11:15. I was still there at 6:30pm getting my hair done. She ran out of color half way through my hair, and left to go buy more color. Mind you I have naturally curly hair which is reeeeaaaallly curly but not unmanagebly curly. When she finally got done I was overall pleased with the color lauers an blow out.... Unit i washed my hair an it was bone straight no curl what so ever my hair wouldnt even hold a curl. I called the owner to complain an I was told Ashley no longer worked there an to call a different salon an take it up with Ashley... Ummm I paid way too much money to be chasin a faulty stylist around oakland california. All in all this chick slipped some type of straightener in my hair an here i am 2yrs later an my curls still arent back 100% I dont recommend anyone to this salon... And to add insult to injury despite numerous emails an visits to the website to UNSUBSCRIBE frome their emails an updates these heffas still have the nerve to keep emailing me.... They call themselves a multicultural salon trust me dont fall for the hype read more
