I grew up at Winterhurst and as a kid it was the greatest place ever. Every Christmas we would receive season passes and spend every free moment here. Open skate with both rinks on a Friday and Saturday is where I hung out. We were in town over Christmas and decided to take the grandkids to an open skate. The place has definitely changed over the years. Both rinks were open, but you could only skate in one at a time. Where the front entrance was is now the Pro Shop. The entrance is now behind where the ticket booth used to be. The skate rental room has been expanded to hold more rental skates. They have walkers for the little ones learning. My grandkids tried the walkers, but once they got the hang of balancing, they didn't need them any longer. There was a guard for most of the sessions second hour. I'm not sure if she was in the other side earlier or if someone else was over there. It was somewhat crowded due to holiday break, but not over crowded. My husband and mother in law sat in the stands comfortably and not frozen. I am surprised they are the original wood bleachers. . You can still go to the second floor and watch from up there. It was a great time for all of us. The kids now want to learn back home in Phoenix. I'm presently on the search for an ice rink in Phoenix Arizona! read more

I've had nothing but great experiences here. My daughters a figure skater and has competed several times at Skate Cleveland here. The ice was always in good shape and the sound system without fail. They have adequate locker rooms, which are dated, like all older rinks, but enough space. We dropped in here, on figure skating ice, on a Friday evening and found good ice, same good sound system for co petition music and lovely people. The front desk, ice surface and the club members make or break your skating experience and all were wonderful! read more

Time it right and you'll get the best ice. Rental and skating (for Lakewood residents) will cost you $8, all in. They do sharpening on site if you have your own skates, parking is great and depending on what day you go you'll have the entire rink to yourself. If you don't have your own skates, they have both hockey and figure skates (yeehah)! We were warned that it's completely bananas on weekend nights so unless you're young, into crowds or bumpin' tunes, wait for the weekdays and weeknights. read more

Definitely a nice rink. My little cousin was in town with his team for a hockey tournament and I came here to watch them play. They played in the rink on the right as you walk in the door. There was PLENTY of seating area which was nice, since both teams had a ton of parents travel with their kids. The place itself is clean and big - two rinks - and the employees were friendly. I can't comment on classes or free skating, since I was just there for the game, but it was great for a spectator! The rinks are nice, so I'm sure they're good for freestyle skating, too. read more

Another favorite of mine. I've skated here since before it was Serpentini. The staff is nice, the prices aren't obscene, and Friday Night Skates are the bomb. If you plan on skating frequently, I HIGHLY recommend that you procure your own skates. The rental skates are old, and very rough on your feet. During a period when I did not have my own, every skate night ended with tears and blisters. Food is VERY good. They have funnel fries for heck's sake! Drinks are a bit pricey, but that's how everyone makes their money, so I'm not surprised. A few Fridays each month, there's a "Chillin' at the Rink" night, and for $12 you get skate rental *cough* bring your own *cough* admission, and free pizza and soda. Loads of fun and great music, and a must for any teenager worth their hoodie. This place holds a special spot in my heart, and will always be a 5/5 for me. read more

Instructors are all really nice and fun. The 3.00 skate rental is bullcrap though. Even if you pay for lessons be prepared to plop this down every time you come or buy expensive skates for a kid who will outgrow them ever 3 months. There is a bar upstairs with GLBC beers and the lady is super cool and fun to chat with. There is no set hours for the bar though which sucks. One day it can be packed and no bartender or another day there can be 10 people in the whole place and its open. Also, watch out in the parking lot. The suburban moms in Land Rovers, talking on the phone and driving don't give a damn about your walking through the parking lot. Being late for a teeth whitening session can make 'em a lil crabby... read more

This review is for open skate only. It's fun and the ice is a-ok. A bit pricey, but cooling all that water can't come cheap. My husband is not a fan of the rental skates, and I don't blame him. They are really dull and feel a bit like a torture device after about 30 minutes on the ice. One improvement suggestion: Have people change direction every 30 minutes. Going in the same direction the whole time makes for an imbalanced workout. read more

Very nice rink with classes for all ages and levels. Good instructors. Reasonable prices for the classes too (Lakewood residents get a discount). And they have birthday party packages! A mainstay of the near west side. read more

Rink 1 is pretty nice. Lots of seating, good spectator views. However, rink 2 sucks. No good place to view a hockey game and cold as hell!

Nice rink to go to. Has plenty of seating and even has a warm room to watch from above. Has a bar upstairs for the adults. Locker rooms are nothing special except for locker room 11 which is really nice. Not that you need flashy to get dressed and play a game. All around a great place read more

I was with my friends at DJ skate. They only had the disco ball on and I couldn't see anyone. I ended up getting lost. And in top of that the ice rink was super dirty. I would not recommend the ice rink. read more

Went here today with a group of friends & was disappointed... The ice was rough & had some chunks missing in some spots, the skates weren't sharp so it was hard to skate (I even got blisters), one of my friends fell & hurt his ankle - the 'rink aide' looked & laughed at him... When we said something about it to somebody else that worked there, they said that he was 'not all there mentally'... Honestly, I understand mentally challenged people, but if he is there to 'aide' others then he needs to do so instead of skating around & ignoring the people that have fallen & could possibly be hurt... I will never go back again! read more

I went for skating with 7 of my friends and we left a half hour in to it. We paid $12 for 2 hours of skating, pizza, and pop. They did not have skates large enough for my one friend so he paid the $12 and was going to sit on the bench and watch us skate. He was told that if he did not have skates, he had to leave the arena or they would kick him out. We were also told that we could not walk around the lobby in our tennis shoes. We HAD to wear our skates (I don't know about anyone else, but I feel like I'm going to break my ankle when I walk in ice skates)! I could almost understand this if they were using it as a way to tell who paid and who didn't, but we were given wristbands to show that we had paid. I was very disappointed in the way that we were treated and the way that everything was handled, so we left after 30 minutes. read more

I went for a Friday night open skate with some friends. The rink is nice and large. There isn't too much to complain about regarding the rink. The problems start with the horrendous rental skates. The first pair they gave me were made out of blue plastic and absolutely destroyed your feet after a few minutes of use. I quickly asked to swap for hockey skates which were more comfortable but the blades were really dull. I spent the rest of the night using the hockey skates which was manageable but not good. The overall place is average and I would recommend it to a friend if only the management wasn't so atrocious. Let me tell a story: I arrived with my friend, walked in the door when another friend I haven't seen in awhile comes over and gives me a hug. A few seconds later this grouchy old man is scolding us for horseplay and lecturing us on how someone could've gotten hurt (because my friend had skates on) and how much money we would have to pay for an ambulance ride. He then asked me why I didn't have skates on. I said because I had just arrived. He responded by rudely ordering me to go stand in a long line and buy skates. I was surprised at how rude this comment was and I guess my facial expression showed it because he started scolding me on how disrespectful I was to my superiors (I guess he was claiming to be my superior). He then walked over to a police officer who was on duty there (I feel sorry that you have to put up with this guy) and told him to talk to me. He pulled me aside and kindly told me that this man deserves my respect for all the hard work he has done in his life and his time spent running the rink. NO! He basically told me I should respect this rude man because he worked a lot at an ice rink! With this logic I should respect Hitler for working hard to improve Germany's economy. He then threatened me with the knowledge that I could have been kicked out or arrested but just not this time (because I did nothing wrong). He also told me when the owner tells me to do something I do it because he is my superior. I'm pretty sure the cop knew I didn't do anything wrong he was just trying to appease the owner who was standing next to him. So after they finished telling me how rude I was for making a "surprised" face, I apologized trying to end this peacefully and not abandon my friends by getting kicked out. To summarize: I was confronted less than a minute after walking in the door. Told I was rude. Ordered to purchase crappy rental ice skates. Chastised for being rude and not respecting this "hard-ly working man". Scolded for not following orders the first time given by someone with no authority over me. I really wanted to just leave but I didn't want to abandon my friends. So I skated that night but I vow to never return to support that disgusting business. As a bonus the employees asked me what happened and I told them that I looked at him funny. They laughed and said "That sounds like him!" The employees basically said that this was normal behavior for their boss. Another thing I noticed throughout the night was that the owner kept pulling kids aside and yelling at them. He was always occupied by scolding someone. I hope you are luckier and don't have a "night ruining" experience with your visit to the rink. I left the rink angry and ashamed of giving him my money. I won't make that mistake again. read more
