Serramonte subaru is two places in one: a rip off dealership on one hand and vehicle servicer that advocates for you and provides great (if typically expensive) service. As a dealer, every vehicle on their lot is overpriced. And I'm not talking marginally. The MSRP on a car might be 30k, but it's marked up $10k, and they will not budge on this price. Of course they have no incentive to, because of the silly economics of Californians in the Bay Area. How's this for an idea? Test drive the car at Serramonte, find a good dealer out of state that offers these vehicles at MSRP, buy a one-way plane ticket, then have yourself a sweet little road trip and put the savings toward a new kitchen or something. Peoria Subaru in Phoenix offers these cars at MSRP. That's seriously only a one long day's drive. Now for the service. I recently had a spun bearing in my engine. Apparently this is a somewhat common issue on Impreza WRXes but the car was still under warranty. I wasn't hotrodding the car or anything but I was still worried about getting guff from the service people, as the repairs were looking to be near $6000. The service rep told me he would go to bat for me so long as I had all my service records in order. "I'd rather have them pay for it than you," he said. So I located the garages who did my service and got copies of the service orders and they got me a new engine for zero out of pocket cost. Really saved my ass. Anyway the collision of these two things is why I'm giving them a 3-star review. If I were to rate their dealer, it would be 1 star, and if I were to rate their service dept, it would be 5 stars. read more

Terrible service regarding their finance dept. I cancel my service plan 10 days after a purchase of a new car in April 2018. I was told it will take three months for paperwork to be process for my refund. Its has been pass 4 months and nothing has been done. I called and talk to their finance director Pete T. and was assure that he himself would take care of the situation. To this day, I am still waiting for answers. Yeah, the sales guys were great: funny, amicable, etc. But all those promises they make (free car washes with every service! .... yeah, right) are just typical BS. They're rude, condescending and have never once gone even slightly out of their way to provide noteworthy service to a returning customer. To judge by the reviews, this place is great at selling cars and just lousy at taking care of customers. I love my Subaru. Won't be bringing it back here. Made an appointment for an oil change, dropped it off early, was quoted 2 hours, came back 2.5 hours later and was told they had just started on my car, done in 20, "maybe less!", and if I'd wait in the sad little lobby they'd fetch me in a jiff. 40 minutes later I return, still no car, "almost done!" Being friendly doesn't make lying acceptable. You ignored my car for two hours and then told me you had just gotten busy. That's neither plausible nor acceptable, and I might as well call out Earnesto for fumbling at every step of the way. It really hurt me to get to work late, and I had things I needed to do on the way that didn't get done. If you really were that busy, you shouldn't have lied to me when I asked how long it would take. If you messed up, you should have leveled with me instead of pacifying me with bogus info. Thanks for really ruining my day, Serramonte Subaru! And thanks for being unapologetic and unaccommodating about it too. It was HORRIBLE. One star is too much. I would give em negative 5... Sales person did not know any details about the car - this was ok, because i have done my homework before asking questions. The worst part of it was - The finance manager (or whoever that was(bald, tall white dude)). Lying in my face and not even blinking about the price of the car... First of all he wanted to steal my trade in vehicle that is worth about 21K-22K for only 15K Second of all - He said that the car that i want (which is 21K MSRP) will cost me 30K (even thought i did not ask for any extras on it). Impreza with no additions, for 30K, seriously??? They did not even mention that they could offer me a better car (Sport package) for the same price (even thought they had it) If i would not look it up myself - i would not even knew about it. This experience was very bad, especially when i had to spent so much time on the dealership with my pregnant wife, only to get some lying moron in my face. DON'T BRING YOUR CAR HERE TO BE SERVICED (unless you want more problems than you came in with). This is in regards to their SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I really wanted to give them a high rating... but I can't. Let's start off with the good. They are polite, give free local rides, and let me borrow a car from Enterprise for a day. They also reexamined their sloppy work free of charge after completing a fuel line recall BUT my car ended up with more problems. My wrx has been smelling like raw fuel inside the cabin and burnt fuel with the windows down. They performed a fuel line recall free of charge after I spoke with Subaru of America. I got the car back with a check engine light (misfire in cylinder 1), a misaligned alternator belt and an improperly clamped fuel line. Gasoline was spewing into my engine bay but I tightened the clamp myself. The gas smell persisted so I figured they forgot to clamp another line. I brought the car back and told them everything I noticed. They said a $1350 valve adjustment would fix the check engine light, and claimed all of the fuel lines were inspected and did not notice a fuel smell. I declined the work and picked up the car after numerous attempts to reach them. I popped the hood at the dealership and noticed two fuel lines were spraying gasoline into my engine bay! It still smelt like gasoline so they lied to me. The service advisor on duty verified what I saw, said the lines should be replaced, and will notify my service advisor. The alternator belt was not adjusted and now I have a misfire in cylinder 1 and 3... :/ I've been here more than 6x for the same issue. They scheduled an afternoon appointment one weekend and couldn't service the car within that time frame, so I had to return another day. Like we all don't have busy lives... The mechanics work from 8am-5pm on weekdays. You can leave your car at 7:30am. It's very difficult to speak with the mechanic working on your car when you also work those hours (unless you take time off). It's almost impossible to reach them. My service advisor says he would call me at certain times but doesn't. I periodically call to check up on the status of my car, but am greeted by voicemail after being rerouted by the volkswagon/subaru operator. I feel bad for constantly bothering Emily or Christina. The service department does not have a direct line. read more

*** WORST F**KING SERVICE EVER !!!! *** You'd think I was making this shit up. This review is directed towards their service center only. My Subaru suffered from the common blown head gasket on my 2.5gt. I was fortunate enough to have this covered under warranty but this turned out to be a huge nightmare and my WORST customer service experience I have ever encountered in my lifetime. I was pretty excited to bring my car to a dealership service center thinking I would be in good hands. Drop off my car, weeks go by and I had to call once a week just to get get an update on my car. Not once did they call me during this time. Finally on the 3rd week I give them a call, they tell me my car was damaged in the parking lot while moving cars around. Keep in mind at this point, my car was still not repaired or worked on at all. This is not the type of shit i'd expect from a dealership. I even called other bay area Subaru dealerships to get a ETA quote and if they'd offer me a loaner and all said it would take 1 week with a loaner! 4th week comes around and they repair the body damage, repair my head gasket. I get to the car and you cannot believe the condition my interior was when i got it back. It looked like it was sitting inside of a body shop with the windows rolled down, full of dust! Scratch on the fender, tear on the e-brake handle. I'm getting this car back practically in worse condition than when I dropped it off. I pointed this out and the manager took a rag to clean up the mess. How could you not inspect a car before returning it to a customer?! Things like this shouldn't happen. I get the car back and you'd think I was making this story up... CHECK ENGINE LIGHT comes on. SERIOUSLY!? I had to return the car back to the dealership and waited another few days to get the car back. (they also repaired the scratch on the fender) On top of this, i was never offered a rental/loaner car and when I requested one about 4 weeks in, they declined me initially, called me back later and THEN offered me one. I had to ride my bicycle and bart to this service center and was not offered shuttle service either. I will never ever go back to this dealership and do NOT recommend anyone to do service to their Subaru at this dealership. Get your shit together!!! read more

We got Subaru 2019 Outback from here a week ago and are completely satisfied wit the customer experience we got especially from Steven and Jose. They are the nicest people there and were very patient with us. We were confused between Subaru Outback and Subaru Forrester and Steven really helped us out there. We visited the dealership 3-4 times before we bought the car and every time- Steven and Jose were there to help us. Steve spent extra time with us to explain everything about the car. To reiterate: JOEY MANUEL (Sales Representative) IS A GREAT GUY TO WORK WITH!!! This is an update of my experience last week. Today, I drove my Subaru BRZ to the dealership to get my free Zurich shield applied. Very painless process and Matt Sammut was a great person to work with. I got a free car rental while they worked on my vehicle. Afterwards, when I was getting ready to drive off, a person walked up to my car and asked if I could talk. This person is: Ray Kwan (General Manager) Whoa, a big shot wants to talk to me. I get nervous because I mean who doesn't when a high ranking person wants to talk to you directly. I go into his office and he starts apologizing for my experience last week at Subaru Serramonte. He had already written up every employee that was negatively involved in my experience. He wanted to make it up to me and offered free oil changes, free tanks of gas and discounts on parts. Ray told me about their dealership-wide meeting regarding the incident; how it is completely unacceptable to treat anyone that way and how he had already reprimanded every person negatively involved. I thought it was very nice of him to take the time to talk to me directly about that and especially to apologize but some things didn't feel very right. When Ray said, "If this discussion has changed your mind in even the slightest bit, please think about maybe editing your Yelp review because it is really hurting us right now as we're a brand-new dealership." I felt...slightly bribed. Am I being given these things to lie on Yelp? I stated how I felt and Ray apologized for making me feel that way. While I did not feel comfortable taking any of the free stuff he offered, he insisted that I at least take a free tank of gas on him. Thanks. It was a nice gesture. I really feel that your upper-division management cares about its customers but my purchase was with the lower division staff. My 1 out of 5 score still stands but I guarantee Ray Kwan will take care of you if you've been wronged by the lower division staff. read more

I purchased a 2017 crosstrek premium for my mother on 7/15/17. Her and I went in around 5:00pm and were approached shortly after by a young representative. He asked if "we had been helped yet" and proceeded to learn more about what we were looking for. He took the time to explain to my mother and I the difference between few cars according to their features. We were able to narrow down to the flutes we were looking for and found a car we liked. However, I explained to him the price was out of the budget I had establish for that car. He explained his job was to find a car we liked and that his manager would work with us to see if we could find a good deal. We then met with the manager and explained why the car was marked at that price. I informed him that there were two other dealers I wanted to check out, told him I was looking to remain with in my budget. He then proceeded to work some numbers for me guaranteeing that his dealership could provide competitive price to the other two dealers. He was able to get me a better deal on their initial offer and able to get me a better APR%. I ended up going over my budget for $1,000 but it was worth it for the car I got with only 5 miles. I recommend you visit this establishment and tell them what it is you are looking for and not looking for so they can help you to drive away with your next car. This was my first new car purchase and I have wanted a Subaru since I was 16. Needless to say I didn't go with my local Subaru dealer and went all the way to Sason because he didn't prejudge me based on my age, gender, or my first time buyer status. So we were looking for a new car for the folks and were at the Chevrolet dealership to test drive a full size highly rated Impala. That was fun but we were going to try the full size Avalon from Toyota also. On the way we saw the Subaru dealer and since we heard good things about them we went for a check! Here is what I liked: 1. Meeting the sales rep - Yes you will be greeted by a sales rep right away but that is great. They are pleasant and friendly and not at all pushy. We worked with Rodel and he was very professional considering I did not what a Subaru really. We were just checking. 2. Learning - We learned a bit about the different models and test drove a Legacy. The sales manager Donald came out to say hi to us and to introduce himself. Now this I took as a positive because he was also very very professional and wasn't giving any sales pitches. He just wanted to let us know he was available. 3. Test Drive - We test drove all over the place and anywhere. Rodel was accommodating and when we wanted to go up steep hills he showed us some great ones up the Guadalupe Parkway. The best part is that the car had lots of gas and wasn't blinking warning like other places. 4. Leaving- this is the hardest part when you want to leave and of course DONALD came out to ask us what he could do to earn our business today. We told him I was interested in the Avalon and he said no problem, gave us some pointers to remember about the Subaru cars and gave us his card and asked us to come back. We did not have to fight our way out..... 5. Now, we went to City Toyota and that was " interesting". No one met us, we had to ask. Took along time to test drive an Avalon and it had plastic all over which made it less than impressive. The shift knob was unscrewed and removed so it was not pleasant to handle The test drive was minimal, barely any gas and very uninteresting. Oddly, I found myself wanting a sales person like Rodel and a manager like Donald to talk with even though I was limited on time. Stewart Chevrolet was nice and the rep there was good but it seemed no one was really interested to sell and discuss as we did not meet any manager. 6. The purchase - very open processes. We went back and Rodel was busy so Joe helped us out and was also low pressure. We were given prices, able to negotiate and got a good price. We then got a better deal from Putnam Subaru and Donald/ Joe could not meet it but gave me their best price. He told me our car would wait and to go to Putnam and see if it works out but he strongly felt his final price was the best. In the end, we drove to Putnam, experienced the lack of price integrity. They offered us a slightly cheaper deal than Donald and Rodel/ Joe but we liked the price integrity, support, honesty and service of everyone at Serramonte Subaru. Price is key and so is peace of mind and knowing you were dealt with in a most professional manner. 7. Financing part was also great and took 20 minutes. No hard sell on warranties! I highly recommend Serramonte Subaru. Excellent service, pricing and support. Ask for Rodel or Joe! Donald the manager will support them. read more

I contacted Serramonte Subaru to ask if I could just have my coolant topped off. They recommend using only Subaru Super Coolant and not any aftermarket products. Melanie responded within half an hour. I came in and she explained to me that there could be underlying problems to having low coolant. She had the technicians check out the source of my problem, and she also replaced my wipers and filters at no cost! Melanie is very knowledgable and provided excellent customer service! She really cares about the customer and she even went above and beyond what I requested. Great service like this is so hard to come by these days. read more

After further reconsideration, I decided to opt out and received a receipt for cancellation and was told it will be reflected on my account in a few weeks. I have followed up with Yogo countless of times, either he didn't pick up or he told me he will handle it. The issue was not resolved, so I decided to go to his manager Ray. I just brought home a 2013 Impreza Sport hatchback from Serramonte Subaru. I worked with Aaron Li through the internet sales department & I can't say enough good things about him and the process of getting a quote, checking out the car, and finally getting it home with a minimum of muss and fuss. He was knowledgable, worked within my budget, didn't screw around trying to up sell us on the car/options, and actually came in under our target number, which was great. Despite getting hosed on my trade in (to Aaron's credit, he was basically begging us to take the car home & sell it elsewhere, since he knew it was a terrible price - we just didn't want the headache, and I can't really fault the dealership for low balling us when we took the offer just to get the car off our hands), I feel really good about the price I got on the new car, so it all balances out in the end. Knocking down one star for what were dealership issues - first, I don't like being blasted with email. It took me a few weeks to go from pricing out cars to getting down to buy one, but I DON'T need five emails a week reminding me that I asked for a quote and that your dealership still has cars in stock. I clearly know how to use your website & I have your contact info; I'll be in touch on MY schedule. There were several other dealerships that had the same method & it's incredibly irritating. I'm just glad they didn't have my phone number. Second, things did not run as smoothly as I would've wished after we'd looked at the car, settled on one we wanted, and were ready to sign the papers. I came in with my own financing & was ready to go; we spent a lot of unnecessary time sitting around and waiting to be seen. I realize everyone's busy, but it really should not have taken 3 hours to see the cars, take a quick test drive, and get the paperwork in order. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with Aaron again - he was a pleasure to deal with, knowledgable and enthusiastic about the product, and never verged into sleazy sales guy territory. I will never just wander into a dealership ever again; being able to do a lot of the haggling via email was convenient and took a lot of stress off the purchase. read more

I usually bring my Subaru here to get its regular service done since it's so close to my work and I can just drop her off in the morning and request a ride to work then later call for a pick up in the afternoon. Very convenient! The shuttle driver is also pretty nice and the ride has never been spent in awkward silence. I've also waited while they performed the service (a couple of hours or so) and although they have a TV, complimentary WiFi, a small play area for small kids to play in and plenty of cushy seating, I think it's better to just drop off your car so you're not just sitting around, waiting. Each visit has been fairly normal for me and on 2 occasions, they even washed and vacuumed my car, which was super helpful! I'm still on my pre-paid service plan that I purchased with my car so I'm not really sure if they do that for all the customers or if it is part of the plan. They also have a very convenient form on their website where you can schedule your service. You can see all their available openings even weeks in advance. It's best to make an appointment because apparently they are busy every day, all day. I had a flat tire once and needed a new. I called in the morning to see if they had the tire I needed (they did) and so I asked if I could just drop off my car to have them replace the tire that day. It was the very first time I was ever told that, sure, I could drop it off but that I should make sure I had a backup ride home because there was a chance I would have to leave it overnight because they were so busy, otherwise I could set an appointment that was a week away. My immediate thought was: Overnight to replace 1 flat tire? Isn't it a safety hazard to drive on a flat tire for too long? Needless to say, I bought the tire from them but had to take it to another shop to have it balanced and mounted. My only other complaint is: I've scheduled all of my appointments online at least a week or 2 in advance and each time except for 1 I decided to drop off and catch a ride to work. I think almost every one of those times I dropped off, even though my appointment was booked for, say, 10am, I've called around 1pm to check on my car and it was never done. A few of those times I was picked up at 3pm and when I arrived there my car is still not done and I end up waiting a little bit anyway. I think what must happen is since I drop it off for the day, they probably push me lower on the list. Oh, also, you can't really schedule a pick up ahead of time. You have to call before the time you want to get picked up. I once called around 2:15pm to request a pick up for 3pm but the driver was out so I had to wait a little while. And sometimes they'll do multiple pick ups so my best recommendation is to request a pick up that is much earlier than when you need to actually have your car, like if you have an appointment to get to after. read more

We were immediately approached by Tom who was very helpful. We explained we had other cars to look at but took his card. Low and behold after a day of going from dealer to dealer we decided to head back to Serramonte Subaru. When we arrived Tom was with another customer but quickly introduced us to Jerry. I had a 2003 Honda Hybrid which was on it's last legs when I started my search for a new car. Why did I wait so long? Because I hate car shopping, dealerships and pushy sales people. I have always had Hondas and Toyotas and they were my "go to" choice because I knew that they were exceptionally reliable and long lasting. However, I'm a senior citizen and am concerned about safety on the road Subaru offered outstanding safety features so they were a competing choice. When we got to Serramonte Subaru, Charles Duboise approached us and introduced us to several different models. He patiently explained the difference between the models and gave us time to look around on our own. i got overwhelmed quickly and discouraged because all the models looked so huge and had dark interiors. When Charles re-approached us, I explained what I liked and what I disliked about each model. Charles synthesized everything I said and steered me to a orange CrossTrek model which immediately appealed to me. I liked the color and I loved that it was shorter but a bit higher than the models I had focused on in the showroom and it was loaded with the latest safety features. Before going on a test drive, Charles made sure that I understood where all the controls were. This impressed me because earlier in the day I was test driving a Toyota but the mirrors and seating were not adjusted and it very distracting. The salesperson turned out to be new and unfamiliar with many of the Toyota features. It was getting late at night and I was starving and ready to close the deal but I was really worried about the car not fitting into my garage. and not being able to return it. Instead of pressuring me to purchase the car on the spot, Charles volunteered to drive the car to my home the next morning to be sure that the car fit without any problem. As it turned out, the car fit nicely in my garage which was a huge relief for me. We followed him back to the dealership and I completed the deal. The day after purchasing the car, I was confused by some of the setting in the car and called Charles for help. He had left work already but volunteered to swing by my house and help me out. It really impressed me that he was heading home but he was still willing to go out of his way to help me like that. Charles is an honest sales person who is a good listener and a great communicator. He is highly professional and doesn't do the stereotypical "hard sell" that car sales people used to be known for. I felt like he sincerely wanted me to find a car that would fit my needs. Once I purchased the car, he remained concerned that I was happy with my purchase and was always available to answer my questions as I adjusted to lots of new and exciting technological automotive advances. I knew I wanted a new car and had a Volkswagen beetle and was very much over the electrical issues I've had with the car. I came in not sure which I wanted, and Chad was there to help. Not only did they get me a better loan than the pre approval I had through capital one, a company I have accounts with, they gave me a great deal on the car, warranty, and service package. All in all I am so happy that I came here. The finance manager was super friendly, everyone was masked up, and super friendly. I'm actually in awe that Hollywood hasn't caught on to the rich entertainment fodder available here and made a movie, or at the very least, a reality TV show. So, since you've already decided to spend thousands to buy the car, sit back, relax, and watch the magic happen. Treat it like a business decision, because it is. Don't take everything so personally, because it's not. And have fun with the process. Smile. Laugh. You're buying a NEW CAR, not having a root canal. But I digress... I bought my first ever brand spanking new car here. I came here twice - the first as a walk-in and the second time because the salesman who helped me the first time - Rod, was so personable. He was mellow, friendly, cool. I liked the guy. And if I'm going to haggle over a $1,000 here or $1,000 there, I'd rather do it with someone I like. There were other guys involved... a "closer" who rushed out after me (I'm telling you, Hollywood, get on this!) and shook my hand all official like (I think that was Ed). He was fun. Finance was a'ight - my mom taught me to always expect the sell, so I listened to the guy drone on (oy, get to the point) before I politely nodded and said "no, thanks" (see previous comment about the business decision), and that was that. I did have to remind him about Gap insurance though (eh hem). Ok, so... negotiation, done. Finance, done. Gimmmeee my car!! Nope. Apparently, I have to learn how to use it. Bells and whistles need instruction. The car needs to be "delivered." Once again, fun ensued. Rod had to understandably head out (I give these people the permission to have lives), so he handed me off to Omar who graciously, patiently and yes, even humorously, walked me through all the little details of my new car. It was late and at the end of the day, and while Omar wasn't directly involved in the sale, he still took the time to make sure I was all set before driving away in my spankin' new Subaru. Jared in the Service department is the most friendly helpful person! As a mom with a fulltime job and two kids, my wife and I have no time to deal with car issues, especially since we know nothing about cars! He's always been so nice and so helpful willing to bend over backwards to provide top notch service, which is so refreshing in the bay area where bad service is rampant. From all the reviews posted here, it seems like Jeff Wong is the superstar at this dealership and after coming in today, I couldn't agree more with what everybody is saying about him. My friend and I stopped by Serramonte Subaru today after hearing amazing things about this particular Subaru dealership. The whole staff had warm smiles on their faces, but Jeff was the one that approached us and showed us the vast selection of shiny cars on their lot. He was super helpful and knowledgeable about each car he showed us and not once did I feel any pressure or overwhelmed by him. He walked us through several models based on what we told him we were looking for, and it seemed as if a light bulb went off his head every time we told him a new feature we wanted. It's like he knew exactly what we wanted, before we even finished vocalizing our thought. I would DEFINITELY recommend this dealership if you are looking to purchase a Subaru or any car at all! I came here on a Saturday with a friend of mine looking to buy a car for her. The car in which she was looking at was a used (pretty new tho, less than 25000 mi) stick-shift hybrid (I was so surprised that one even exists) and asked me to test drive it for her since I was more familiar with driving manual. We met up with Yancey and he was nice and patient with us in trying out the car. Yancey as well as the manager were pretty straight forward with us on price and where the car came from (turns out it was a trade in for an STI) which I really liked. When finally settling on a price, my friend needed to go to the bank to get a cashier's check which the manager said to Yancey to drive us to the bank, which was a kind offer. The whole process went by pretty smoothly and was relatively quick for being at the dealership. Car broke down. Needed a new vehicle. Found Chris at Seremonte and I could not recommend him and the dealer enough. I didn't end up buying from them because they didn't have the right car in stock, but compared to every other dealer I spoke with they were miles better. Chris helped every step of the way trying to help get the car at seremonte or get the car elsewhere. They don't have the same sales approach like other dealers where someone is always trying to get something from you and the incentives are mess. Chris will just simply help you and not put you through the grinder of car sales BS. If you want to buy a Subaru you will be very happy with seremonte because they work with you and for you. Not the other way around. 10/10. And whoever manages Chris, assuming he isn't the manager of the sales department, make sure you do whatever you can to keep him or promote him. Nothing is more important to the consumer than feeling like someone genuinely wants to help, especially when you're stressed out trying to figure out how to buy a new car in this market! (If people read this 5 years there were a lot of car shortages and buying was extremely difficult if you want to get what you wanted without waiting months). Thanks Chris! read more
