Overall a decent stop for some casual Mexican food. It's right next to the Target in Poway. They have all the typical food options including tacos, burritos, plates, and tortas. There are a few tables inside for dining in. Prices were fair for the portion we received. Food was tasty. I really enjoyed their tortilla chips which tasted like a hybrid between tortilla chips and Fritos. Only thing is you have to ask for salsa and the salsa was quite watery. Bacon breakfast burrito.. not bad.. not something to wrote home about. Good chunky potatoes.. well seasoned but dominant ingredient. Average size and amount of bacon and egg and cheese. Not bad. Salsa that we received was no Bueno. Red spicy... weird after taste. $1 extra for carrots.. small snack bag size amount. Delicious but not worth the $1 extra charge. No open salsa bar at least in the AM despite photos on yelp. All i. All of you are in the area and need mexican sitting a target trip... it will do. My daughter wanted fish tacos and we had a Target pickup, so we decided to head here because of how convenient the location is. Inside seems like a pretty standard taco shop: a few tables, a tv playing soccer, a cooler full of paletas. We took our food to-go, but there definitely would have been space to sit inside had we chosen to eat there. The lady running the register was super friendly and packed our food with care, which I like because tacos can easily become a hot mess if you hold the bag the wrong way. I ordered the carne asada torta and it was pretty delicious. I really like how it had a layer of beans, almost used as a condiment. Tortas can frequently be too dry, but the beans actually succeeded where the usual layer of mayo fails. It really stood up to the bread. The fish taco was pretty good, my daughter liked the fish, the lettuce, and it had a nice healthy amount of tomatoes (which I love, but my daughter doesn't- so order accordingly!). The corn tortillas were kind of "meh", so she only ate one of them and left the second one that they use to keep it from falling apart on the plate. Overall, it is a pretty good restaurant and there are plenty of choices. It will probably be our go-to place when we are at Target, but more so because of the location. read more

Although I am frequently in the area running errands, I don't often patronize this Mexican restaurant because it's usually not my focus to get food when I'm here. That said, I have enjoyed several orders from this shop, but this last visit was subpar. The salsa bar remains closed, which is understandable. But you have to ask for salsa when you claim your order. I noticed the orders ahead of me were not offered salsa at all. When asked, customers are given salsa. Really?? That's lame. Most places will ask if you would like salsa. - 1 star The 4 containers of salsa I received were disgusting. It was like green water, void of any chunkiness resembling fresh salsa. The jar of salsa verde I had leftover in my fridge had more texture. I was so disgusted I tossed the salsa before I took a pic. Just use your imagination; you don't need to see that mess. - 1 star for crappy salsa I ordered carne asada fries ($11.85) and the price is even higher than my local favorite Alvaro's, which is to be somewhat expected in this area. The fries were thick cut and soggy. The carne asada was not well marinated and lacked flavor. And based on the texture, it was lower quality meat with several pieces of fat. I also ordered a carne asada plate ($13.99) with corn tortillas. It was plagued with the same subpar meat but came with a soupy mess of beans and dry rice. - 1 star for watery beans & dry rice. And to top it off they charge all debit and credit transactions a $.35 fee. No minimum order required. Just straight up 35 cents. It's clearly posted at the order counter. But if I'm ordering $40 of your already pricy Mexican food can you wave the fee like other places do? That just seems like price gauging to me. - 1 star Needless to say I won't return here for subpar Mexican when I can get better quality for less price without no debit/credit card fees (with a minimum order) elsewhere. read more

We always get the California Burrito from here and it has always been made just a little differently depending on who is preparing it. This most recent time it was really good, the right proportion of sour cream and cheese. I've noticed the sour cream is easy to skimp on and makes the whole thing dry when there isn't enough. This place lacks a lot of things that is important for a business to be successful. First off all, how can serve guests with the type of temperature at this place? The small restaurant is so hot that I started sweating while eating here. I'm kind of nervous on the food quality if it is extremely hot in this place. I ordered the shrimp burrito and it was not good at all. The shrimp was still wet and the burrito seemed like there was a soup inside. I went and asked the lady working if I can get a plastic plate and she got mad and said didn't I already give you a plate. I was so surprise on his ride she was and I just told her no. She was really hesitant to give me a plastic plate. She was near the cashier area and the minute I got up, she went and made it look like she was cleaning the table in the kitchen, even though she just cleaned it like 5 minutes ago. Once Ike Sandwiches is open, this place will be irrelevant, if not already. I've came here 2x and I had bad burritos and no one ever comes here. You are better off to ignore this place. read more

I'm so disappointed with the food I received from here tonight. I recall it tasting better in the past. I ordered a veggie burrito, and it's partly my fault for not reading the ingredients. It might as well have been a fajita burrito without meat. It was packed full of white onion, green bell peppers and red bell peppers. The tortilla was average, and so were the rice and beans inside. However, the excessive amount of onion, and bell peppers totally ruined the flavor overall. Unfortunately, I won't be buying another burrito here. You all need to consider coming up with a different veggie burrito. What you have is a fail in my opinion, and I'm a vegetarian. read more

The fish tacos are massive, the largest I have ever seen in my life and tasty. Fish tacos are covered in tomato, lettuce, cream sauce. The corn tortilla wasn't anything special. The pinto beans are really soft and tasty and the rice has lots of flavor. I always judge a place by how much they flavor the rice and the beans...and this place made an impression on me. The salsa - there was one kind at the time, a red sauce. It is spicy level 7.5/10. Well rounded flavor, without being too spicy or too smokey. The children operating this place are not up on customer service. In addition the prices are not competitive and are on the expensive side. The food is just so so and comparable to americanized mexican cuisine. It's disappointing to find out that they close at 8 pm although the app says 10 pm. My recommendation is skip this place and head to nearby Taco Taco in Poway. The food at Taco Taco is delicious and well priced and served with customer service minded people. I used to like this place, I mean it was the run of the mill good fast Mexican food for reasonable prices and friendly service. The last time I ordered there the old man behind the counter wanted to charge me for more than 3 (small) salsas to go. I told him they NEVER charged extra for salsa and he quickly responded " well we do now". With that I responded back, " well you now lost a good customer". It wasn't just about charging extra for salsa, even as the prices of menu items has sky rocketed, it was about his arrogant DONT-give-a-shit attitude that completely turned me off...will NEVER support this particular business again....too much fantastic competition out there.... I've eaten here several times before and I'd say Serranos is generally better than average. But tonight something was different. A small taco shop with a good menu. Service is fine, the portion was large, and the food was hot. I got an egg burrito, which contains egg, beans, and rice. As I said, the burrito was large and will fill you up, however, the burrito was very plain, particularly the beans, and the rice was on the mushy side. Another unfortunate negative was that the salsas are pretty bad..I tried all three and all were extremely watery and lacking flavor and taste. The best was the one that is the least blended, but it still isn't that great. Overall, based on this visit, I wouldn't return again, after already being awhile since the previous visit. read more

I'm a burrito fanatic. This is not my first rodeo but after their cali burrito around 1pm I became bloated for the rest of day and felt like throwing. Prices are crazy high and have to ask for everything even utensils. Charing for paying with a card and then tips for some reason. You ask for tips if you serve the customer by bringing food and cleaning table not for standing and just taking order behind covid19 plastic in 2024. This place is right by my work and has potato rolled tacos and had been my go-to for lunch for a while. I had sworn off of this shop for many months since my last experience of trying to order a veggie burrito went terribly. The person at the register tried to charge me almost 11$ for a burrito with no meat or dairy in it. Fast forward to today, I thought, hey, why not give them another shot? I ordered potato rolled tacos no cheese, no sour cream, expecting all of the other things like guacamole and pico to be on there. Nothing, just a big handful of lettuce on top of my rolled tacos. My friends who ordered chicken rolled tacos got guac and pico on hers. When I called the owner insisted that they only put cheese, sour cream, and and lettuce on rolled tacos. Unfortunately, that's not what their menu states. So this was all disappointing, but I was still reasonably appeased until I bit into one of my tacos and it was beef. I would like to say I have been to at least 75% of the Taco shops in San Diego (there are a LOT of places in San Diego haha and I've lived here all of my life), so I feel somewhat qualified to say that this is truly the best bang for your buck Mexican food you can get anywhere in San Diego. There are a lot of places that are over-hyped due to social media, but this is a hidden gem nobody really goes to! (or, at least, not many people know about) The owners and cooks are really nice and caring and always ensure your food is 100% delicious and is served out in a prompt manner. Absolutely a great place to get quick Mexican food. The Pork Adobada burrito, Carne Asada Burrito, and fries we ordered were terrific. The Pork Adobada was the best I've ever had, period, absolutely you have to try it!. Just the right amount of spice, juicy, not dry like most places and a great salsa. The Carne Asada burrito/fries were not only massive, but one of the best we've had at the mom and pop shops. The fries were up there and another huge portion. The salsa bar is limited, but overall, not going to keep us away, I wish they would expand the offering a little bit. The same folks are typically cooking or manning the counter and they do a terrific job. Easy to overlook this terrific little place, but don't, its now our go to family emergency dinner. Clean, quick, hot and great portions, and best of all, always a lot of cheese! The staff is super friendly. We typically grab a to go item and they always offer to cook it as we're about to leave to ensure it's hot without asking. Customer service! My only ding on the great staff, is that they are a little skimpy with the napkins. All you have to do is ask, but it would be nice to get a few more when it's time to eat. I have a breakfast burrito here every Saturday before shopping at Target next door. The dining area and restroom are always clean, the employees are very nice, and the food is always fresh! Everything on their menu taste really good! My favorites are the beef tacos, rolled tacos, carne asada burrito, fish taco, and the carne asada fries are to die for! Did I mention fresh ingredients?
