Came here the other day & it didn't disappoint! The food came out super fast, and you could tell it was made fresh. I especially loved the guacamole and the generous toppings. The setup is easy: you order at the front, and wait for them to call you up to pick up your tray. The place was clean, spacious, and had a chill, no-fuss vibe, & perfect for a casual bite! One of my favorite features was their salsa bar. Not only do they offer the usual salsas and condiments, but they also had huge roasted jalapeños, which added such a good kick to the meal! The owners of this establishment should properly teach their workers the California laws and regulations. Tonight, we watched a worker refuse service to a young woman with her service animal, who, very clearly had his vest on and very clearly was trained and calm. decided to try this place again as it was nearby and recently had surgery. the woman behind the counter (dark hair pulled back, middle aged, heavy set), was less than friendly. a 'cup' of carnitas meat, which was $5 or $6 is now $9 (extra for the tortillas). my friend's food was bland and average. no taste, just something to fill the stomach. the horchata was very watery. the patio was dirty. some kid in the restaurant w/ no shoes (this is not the beach). one with a towel wrapped around his waist (was he wearing anything underneath??). pretty disgusting overall. will go the extra few blocks to a better place that greets its customers and cares about food quality. read more

Living in Rancho Bernardo there are a lot of Mexican food shops in the area. This is hands-down, the best one that I've eaten at. We typically go there about once a week and because I have to be gluten-free. The only really things that I can eat is either their rolled tacos or their crunchy tacos. Their beans and rice are absolutely delicious and my mom always said that that's how you can tell that It's a really good Mexican restaurant. My son typically gets a burrito while my daughter typically gets the Carne Asada fries. The service is fast and friendly, and the ambience is very low-key. I went in on a Wednesday night and there were several people ahead of me to order in line. It took about 10 minutes to order because the cashier kept walking away from the cash register to cough all around the restaurant and near the drinks. I ordered the cheese quesadilla with fries and chipotle shrimp plate. Everything was so soggy and bland. I think the best thing out of both dishes was the tortilla that came with the chipotle shrimp. I would not recommend this place and wouldn't go back. It was gross how the cashier was coughing all over the place. read more

It is an order counter and take it to sit, and I chose "to go." The menu has all the typical options. There is a salsa bar with five salsa options, onions, lime, all to grab on your own. Easily the most consistent S-Tier Burritos this side of the border. The El Grande and the El Grande Surf and Turf are staples for a big ass meal that's high in protein and quality. The shrimp burrito has the best white sauce and the diablo shrimp is so spicy but hits every time (worth the pain). Been coming here for a decade and they have never disappointed. I have been going here for 15 years and this will forever be my favorite bean and rice burrito but today I went in and my burrito was $6.10 I miss the days when their bean and rice burrito was $1.99. A bit confused as to why it has gone up so much in price as these ingredients are very cheap in this item. They also always mess up orders which is quite inconvenient. I ordered a bean and rice and got home to get a bean and cheese, I even confirmed with the worker that there would be no cheese. I went back to get the correct burrito and the tortillas also look very different which is kind of odd. The food is so-so (I only liked one of their red salsas which is why I even went back a second time) but their staff is very rude. The first time I went there I had an extremely greasy and fatty birria taco which I couldn't even finish because it was so gross. One of the two men in the kitchen area pointed to the side so I thought maybe the side door was open and all were locked. Whoever the middle-aged woman is working there was particularly rude. The service here is quick, and very good. I found the staff to be welcoming, and friendly. The menu prices are very good for the food quality, and serving size: I know we the Cotijas has various locations, but they seem to be independently owned (not a traditional change). Recently ordered a Hash Brown Burrito and Carne Asada Chips. I want to mention, it was delicious! Sometimes it's good to eat at spots that you haven't been to in a while. The topping was good but I felt something was missing from the it, the carne asada felt like their was no seasoning on it, pretty plain jane. I had to add a lot of verde sauce and jalapeños. Don't get me wrong, the staff was friendly and took my order, make sure their was no beans. It's not there fault. I also ordered myself a burrito, with sauces on the side since I was going to eat this at home and I do not like soggy burrito. I would give the burrito a 6.3/10. I forgot to check on if there was rice in it, it was just meat and guac and salsa. Not filling. For $9.29 it was cheap.
