This is another taco shop close to my work in East Poway. Never had a problem with the food, but it seems like their prices go up on a monthly basis. When burritos start getting close to $15 or $20 they better be something special. Having said that, their spicy carne asada fajita "Ranchero Burrito" is the best I ever had. And I've lived in So Cal my whole life. I love the salsa bar with several salsas (although a bit watery), sliced jalapenos, pico, pickeled carrots, radishes, chips too! Pretty quick service. I'm just concerned that they're going to price themselves out of business. But no doubt, the food is good. read more

Got a bean and cheese burrito. My burrito was loosely and poorly wrapped. After picking it up it was flopping around. The weight of the runny beans created a hole to poke through the bottom and beans were just spilling out the bottom. There was so much excess tortilla on the left, just rolls of tortilla and all the beans were on the right side. The cheese was still cold and unmelted. Bummer. read more

Big & Delicious Burrito! I ordered a Bean & Cheese Burrito and to my surprise it was AMAZING! They use a big 16 inch flour tortilla and the burrito comes out big. I also ordered a side of potato fry and the basket was full. The prices are very reasonable and I definitely had a good dinner at a great value! read more

I saw a sign at lunchtime, D'Soto's Taco Shop, and only naturally, I had to check it out. I wasn't hungry enough for a burrito, so I went for a shredded beef taco and a canned Diet Coke. Taco was very good, I even licked up the taco juice from the parchment paper. The condiment bar is epic! This alone brought it to 5 stars for me... Pickled raw onions with fresh cut jalapeño, fresh cut cucumbers, fresh cut radishes, then the different sauces...my goodness I was the happy camper..... My next visit will be to try a Carne Asada burrito. Stand by for my review on it soon... Come here and eat if in the area.... read more

I really really want to like this place. Their menu looks very appetizing . A large selection of items. It looks like they have a regular menu and a Marisco's menu. Although I think they are not going to serve seafood anymore. Unless I misunderstood the guy (he didn't really speak English that well). Their salsa bar is great. Self serve and a good selection. Hot carrots and pico di gallo is always a plus. They do offer free chips, but all three times I've been here. They were stale! I ordered their fish rolled tacos and Gobernado taco. Both were delicious. Crispy tortillas and flavorful fish and shrimp. The beef rolled tacos were standard. They do fill the rolled tacos with a good amount of beef. I feel like hole in the wall places will serve rolled tacos in the styrofoam tray with aluminum foil on top rather than a clam shell styrofoam container. They serve it on the tray. I should have made the drive to Point Loma. Looking to yelp for lunch and close to my hotel, I rolled into this place. I should have kept rolling and head to Aldaberto's (I know you read that review). I don't like negative reviews so I'm going to find a positive spin on this.........well it's across the street from my hotel. First the meat. You would think it would be piping hot since I only drove right across the street?!?!? It was lukewarm at the best. And as for the flavor of the meat it was ok. So maybe the guacamole and salsa cooled it off but there wasn't much on there. And I wish there was more cilantro but again there wasn't much there. And I forgot to ask for any sauce but you would think they would offer or even put a couple of cups in the bag. Overall one star. It was just below average. Now excuse me, I'm planning my next meal. When I'm in the Poway area for work and I crave Mexican food, this is my go to spot. They have an amazing Taco Tuesday. You have four choices of meat from Carne Asada, Adobada, Chicken and Carnitas. Today I did 4 adobada tacos it comes with guacamole, cilantro and onion on top. They have a self serve salsa bar if you want some lemon and hot sauce for your food. Beside Taco Tuesday I come here for other great choices, I love their beef crunchy tacos, add sour cream, rice and bean plate. They have so much to offer. Work at one of the nearby corporate building and best Mexican food in poway. Can't go wrong with the breakfast burritos or their taco Tuesday specials. The young lady working the cash register is always extremely rude towards me everytime I visit and she's working. Always telling me to close the salsa bar lid when I make sure to close the lid every damn time, even when she's not working. Of course, this is after rudely taking my order and robotically calling me sir as though she was forced to do so if she wants to work there. Today was where I've had it. Taking my order rudely per usual but yet really nice to the patrons after me in line. Then she waited for me to fill my salsa packet with the hottest one they have before announcing to everyone else behind me that the others will be restocked shortly. Really? I would've given this place a couple more stars due to the male chef being really nice and providing accommodating service when he's there working alone but this young lady's sustaining rude service superceded that decision. To that young lady, if you ever come across this review, if you do not enjoy working in the service industry, then please don't keep pushing your rude service towards a negative Yelp review and potentially cause this presumably family-owned businness to lose customers and jeopardize its sustainability through revenue generation. Go pursue a career in engineering or computer programming where you can introvert. At least then, your negative attitude towards the EM schematics or computer monitor full of lines of codes cannot write you a nasty review. Well, at least until AI in that general area has been perfected. Then the reviews will surely be highly accurate! Time to pick another taco shop option for lunch. read more

I checked the menu online before going in to get some rolled tacos here. The price on the menu online was significantly less than the price on the menu in the actual restaurant. Then I was charged an even higher price for them by the employee. I asked about the discrepancy and she just said the sign hadn't been updated yet. The rolled tacos were fine. I haven't yet been to D'Soto's in person - but last night I went to a birthday party that had a great Mexican dinner laid out buffet style and we asked the host where it came from and he told us D'Soto's. Our host said the food was ready on time for pickup, pipin' hot and ready to go, and quite affordable. We had carne asada, pollo, carnitas, rice, beans, guac. I woild think that ordering tacos on a taco Tuesday would imply that you want the 1.39 taco deal on taco Tuesday. The screen register was down and upon receiving the receipt, I noticed I was charged for large, regular tacos. I was apologized to but was unable to get any refund. I was informed that I was the one responsible for specifying that I wanted mini tacos instead of regular tacos. Unfortunately this put a very sour taste in my mouth. The food tasted average for a Mexican taco shop. It wasn't bad nor was it great. Tldr; specify that you want taco tuesday mini tacos when ordering tacos on Tuesdays. Great, convenient hole in the wall taco shop in Poway; near General Atomics, Cohu and HME. Well located, quite tasty, reasonably priced, unlimited free chips; what is not to love? I pick up breakfast burritos and sometimes lunch here and have never had a bad experience. Very convenient to my workplace when I forget breakfast or lunch. The chefs are quick and confident. In the land of Carls Jr., McDonalds, and strip malls the simple sign reading Taco Shop was like a beacon of hope. My hard working man makes his money out in these parts and occasionally I zip out to grab a bite with him for lunch. The menu has all the delights a taco shop should, service was quick and everything was fresh. The BF had a burrito and was happy with his choice. I had my current obsession, the chorizo egg plate with rice, beans, and corn tortillas. No complaints here! They offer two choices of guacamole, one with sour cream and one without. They also have your typical taco joint salsa bar and the veggies and sauces were flavorful and fresh. Its clean and the staff was friendly, it got busier and busier (we rolled in about 11:30, by noon the seating was pretty full) although there is some outside seating out the back. There are oh so many taco places in SD, but in this neck of the woods, its the best you're gonna find! read more

I went inside to make a to go order as I was waiting I guess the people before me accidentally took my food when they grabbed theirs the cashier noticed I was still waiting and asked what I ordered, I showed him my receipt and he said ok it's almost ready, then I SAW him go outside to the people eating and take the tray that had my food he then put it on the counter and said here's your food!! I come here about once a week or so, because I work really close by. I usually get either the chorizo burrito or the bean and cheese. As far as hot sauce, I always get the red one. Not that red one, the other red one. No, not that one...the other one! Well, atleast they could try to name them... Also, if you like peppers, request some fried ones with salt along with your lunch. They will do it for free, and I love the taste of fried serrano. Even though the cooks ogle any good looking woman that comes in, my food has never been burnt....but it's not like the bar for good food at a hole in the wall taco shop was that high anyways.
