I absolutely adore this B&B for its architecture--the mouldings, plaster and pocket doors, the beautiful old staircases and many other original features of this grand old house. Did I mention how delightful the owner is? Claudia is an absolute gem. This beautiful home is in a city setting albeit a small one off two major interstates. For those who don't mind exploring a city and its culture, there are a range of restaurants and eateries to fit your budget, historical sites, parks as well as museums. Ragland Mansion is ALWAYS on my list of places to stay when I'm nearby.

There was a small fridge in the room and a pot of coffee made for us each morning in the room next door. The breakfast included in the price of the room was absolutely delicious and filling (four cheese omelet one day, cinnamon raisin french toast casserole another, rosemary potatoes, LOTS of fresh fruit). Our hosts were attentive, accommodating, and just the right level of friendly. For example, not only did Tina ask about food allergies and dietary restrictions in terms of breakfast, but she also asked about and provided the kind of milk I take in my coffee. We were also provided with a map of Old Town and recommendations of what we could find in various eating establishments in terms of both food and entertainment. The house was in walking distance of everything in Old Town. I was a little worried that our room might be hot considering we were visiting in the middle of a heat wave and many historic houses don't have CACH, but the window AC unit did a fine job. Petersburg is great for a weekend trip if you like small towns, history, antique shopping, or have a thing for the past. Plenty of nooks and crannies to poke around in, and everyone was friendly, pleasant, and talkative!

Parking was a breeze, purchasing tickets was easy, and we were able to shop in every single room of the Inn, which also essentially doubled as a tour. The rooms were all lovely and the Inn was the perfect backdrop for shopping. I even tried a sample of their holiday tea (and subsequently bought some). One of the owners was dolling out the samples and it was nice to chat with him. You could tell he and his wife put a lot of love into their Inn. I wouldn't hesitate to return for other events and will keep this spot in mind for future visitors looking for a B&B experience as well.

She has seen weddings, receptions, birthdays, proms, quenceneras, baby showers, bridal showers, engagement announcements, rehearsals, bridal shows, retirement parties, dinner parties, public and private Teas, Holiday parties, business meetings, celebrations of life, fund raising events and even political rallies.The house was originally built in 1770 by William Walthall and passed down to his daughters, Polly and Susannah (our purported ghost), then sold to a Doctor Anderson who extended the front of the house in the 1830s. Later, he sold it to a Doctor Friend who resided there when she would serve as a civil war hospital. Sold again, yet to another doctor, Dr. Thomas Cheatham, the house grew again to form a “T” shaped structure. After his death, the home would fall into severe disrepair only to be restored in the 1930s and named Wrexham. The Hague family lived there and maintained what became a “mansion” in the 1960s when it was added to once again. The new addition begged for an upgraded name, which is the now, Wrexham Hall. Sold to Judge Gates in the 1970s, he would sell it and have it moved to its current location. The last addition was made by the Brennan family, an event room that would serve many for years to come. It was the most affordable compared to other venues, most beautiful, and we have the luxury of staying the weekend and relaxing with our family! The house is amazing, and the soy crops outside mixed with the trees really sold it for us. Not only did we love the venue, but we also felt warm and welcomed by Annmarie. Since the moment we booked she has been a great communicator and we feel like she is really listening to our needs. Not the "corporate" feel if you will. We also did our save the dates at the venue with their photographer! They turned out AMAZING! It was so fun and taking pictures with the horses really made them feel so much more magical. We are booked for May and I could not be more excited! Also just to add- they had so many options to help with vendors, which helped us pick our caterer! It's so much less stress than I imagined because they are SO helpful! I am so excited about our wedding and could not recommend this venue enough!

Our room was nicely appointed and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was a nice size with good water pressure. They do not cook a full breakfast in the mornings but there were bagles cream, cheese, other pastries, coffee, tea, and juice for us in the morning. We never ran into the owner until just before leaving on the second day, but felt at home the whole time. We will definitly be back again the next time we are in the area, it is definitley a home away from home kind of place and was a great value for quality of accomodations. She was super attentive and even got us tea and wine to relax with that evening! And she had great suggestions of where to go in Williamsburg. The property itself is well maintained and absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in Dolly's room which is actually located in a cottage in the back of the property but there are plenty of gorgeous rooms available inside. They were also very attentive to my dietary needs. I have celiac disease so they made sure to make something I could eat for breakfast. I highly recommend this place to everyone. It's gorgeous and the owners are absolute peaches. The holiday decor was amazing, so I suggest going in the winter time. We loved it, we'll definitely be back!

We were booked into the inn by a client who wanted to make our first visit to Suffolk a memorable one. The home is a true Southern belle - a grand dame of historic mansions. It has been so lovingly restored and is perfectly appointed. We had so much fun exploring every inch of the home and absorbing its character. The proprietor (and very talented chef) Ruth has mastered the art of hospitality, inviting us to truly make the home our own. She didn't mind one bit that we planted ourselves in the reclining leather chairs in the stately octagonal library with another couple and yakked enthusiastically until the wee hours. After a blissful night sleep, breakfast the following morning was a marvelous affair. We prepped a coffee for ourselves at the Nespresso machine (fantastic!) and meandered around the grounds until the heavenly smell of baking croissants lured us to the elegant, light-filled breakfast room. Usually an eat-and-run proposition for us, we lingered for over an hour enjoying the delectable food and the conversation with the other guests. The charm of the house and its gracious owner had worked its magic - we were refreshed, satiated and inspired. We departed with great reluctance but the spirit of the Truitt house hung about us for the rest of the day and onto the next as we traveled home. This place has that without losing its original charm from 1909. Because I'm here for work, I'm purposely spending all my time at the house when not on location and I love to be able to move from study to library to the atrium and other rooms in order to read and for a change of atmosphere. We could not have asked for a better place to stay while visiting Richmond. My boyfriend lived in…read moreRichmond for a couple of years and we were returning to the area to celebrate his birthday. Our number on priority was location, and The One was beyond perfect. It's within walking distance of Richmond's greatest museums as well as the popular Carytown neighborhood where we spent much of our visit. When we arrived, Sean and Polly weren't at home, but we were provided with an access code to get in to the guest rooms. We were absolutely floored when we walked in. The One only has two guest rooms, which makes it the perfect place for privacy. Our room, The Dream Suite, is located at the top of the stairs and is beautifully decorated in shades of deep red. My only very minor gripe is that the bathrooms are no located "en suite." Instead, they are directly outside the rooms. So while each bedroom does have its own bathroom, you do need to leave your room to get to it. Not a huge deal since there are only two guest rooms...but you can't traipse to the bathroom naked at 2am, either! The parlor is located across the hall from the guest rooms and is not only a comfortable lounge spot, but is also stocked full of snacks and beverages. This is also where continental breakfast is served in the morning. The spread is pretty standard- muffins, bagels, cereal, etc. It didn't particularly suit my fancy (way too carb-heavy), but it's the type of breakfast my boyfriend loves. Sean and Polly were fantastic hosts; very attentive and friendly. Honestly, they were the best B&B owners I have ever interacted with. You can tell that they truly love what they do. We can't wait to go back to Richmond to spend another night at The One. Thanks to Polly and Sean for a great stay!

The Tinder Guest House is right on Railroad Ave with walking distance of the Ashland AmTrak…read morepassenger station and the campus of Randolph Macon College. The guest house is on the second floor. The building is a converted 1898 store front. It has three rooms that are nicely decorated with vintage furniture. If you are a rail fan, this is your place. More than 40 trains, both freight and passenger pass each day. However, the bed rooms are in the rear of the building and the passage of the trains did not wake us up at night. Kids are welcome and will like the game room with a foosball table and plenty of room to run around. Sharon, the owner, is a very nice person who pointed out where to eat and get a beer, all within walking distance. We were there for a college Lacrosse game and found this location to be a good value, neat and clean and ideally located.

The rooms are huge and there was plenty of space for all of us to get ready including hair and makeup people and photographers. Sharon, the owner, was so hospitable and even left us homemade baked goods including muffins, chocolate chip cookies and quiche. Will definitely stay here again if ever back in the area!
