Plenty of meat on them and topped with a nice layer of fat which caramelized nicely; I first seared the short ribs before cooking them in a slow cooker. As stated on its website, Sweet Tree Farm is committed to sustainable farming, does not use growth hormones, nor do they routinely use antibiotics. Their beef is 100% grass-fed and finished. If the quality and flavor of their short ribs are any indication of their other products, they're definitely doing something right!

Yes, they are a tad on the pricey side when compared to the supermarket (about $1/ ounce with tax for the rib eye), but the excellent flavor and clear conscious don't hold a candle to that supermarket stuff. Plus, it's still way cheaper than you'll find at any respectable steakhouse. And who doesn't love supporting a good local business? These folks offer a number of items, including various cuts of steak, beef and pork roasts, ribs, chops, sausage, kebabs, bacon, ground meat and chicken. Don't forget the eggs and maple syrup. Plus, they seem to use as much of the animal as possible, given that they also sell shank and marrow bones, dog bones, heart, tongue, oxtail, liver, and beef and pig fat. I love that. Find the friendly Sweet Tree people selling their goods at the Troy Farmers Market (Saturdays), the Schenectady Farmers Market (Sundays) or pick your order up at the farm by appointment. The menu boards, fixtures, small grocery shelves are covered in plastic, brown paper/cardboard taped to the floor, and cardboard shaped cutouts hang on the walls and labeled with black marker with what's supposed to be hanging including clock, pictures, and several G'ville sports plaques. There are current NFL schedules taped on the glass counter for the Giants, Jets, and Bills. However, there are outdated The X-Factor/Pepsi promos in the store and depicts two ex-judges (Paula & Nicole) from the first season. Al's Pizzeria sells round and sheet pizzas, pizza slices, subs, cold salads, dinners, and homemade bread loaves at fair prices. In the cooler, bottled Pepsi products, cold beers, and milk are offered too. I ordered a 12 cut Sausage Sheet Pizza, which was ready in about 30 minutes as promised. I used an Entertainment coupon and the pizza was just under $8 with tax. The rectangular thin crust pizza had a light airy, but firm crust with thick crisp edges, ideal for breaking off into breadsticks. The pizza had a good amount of thick tomato sauce, sprinkled with not too much mozzarella cheese and chunks of spicy ground Italian sausage. I enjoyed this good family style sausage pizza over several days for snacks and lunches. I would probably return here again if I wanted inexpensive slices of pizza, but I'm crossing my fingers with a small glimmer of hope that the pizza shop may be fully renovated on a future visit. As a previous reviewer noted several years ago, the shop was under construction then and it's still under construction today. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

They use Boars Head meats here. They also sell candy bars, small candies, chips, cold drinks, coffee and tea. The place is very cozy inside which is order at the counter with a few finished tree trunk cut table seating and seating along the front window and a collection of antiques & toys in the store. I stopped by Dixie's for lunch takeout. I got a Hot Dog with Meat Sauce, Mustard & Onions ($3.50 plus tax) and a Large Mac & Cheese ($6.99 plus tax). The food was ready to go in under 10 minutes. The mac & cheese was a dense mix of soft elbows and a semi rich cheese blend. The firm hot dog was loaded with seasoned ground beef, mustard & onions on a standard hot dog roll, very similar to the Michigans I've enjoyed in the North Country (NY). Dixie's Deli was a good call for lunch. I will have to stop by again when I'm traveling through the Mohawk Valley.
