I have been a member of service Legends little club (scam) for 6 years. In the Last 2 years we have had issues with our agreement. Just recently the straw broke the camel's back. I had a damper break and was quoted $576 for a club price. Being mechanically inclined i decided to check the price but had already paid them ( which they insisted be done before they would acquire the part) . I called Grainger ( whom is also a honeywell distributor) i was quoted $176 retail cost shipping included! Also found an aftermarket part on Amazon for $64! When i confronted management they said that they didn't get their parts at Grainger and i said maybe they should! He did offer to adjust the bill then he would cancel my membership because "we have had this problem before " . I was told 2 days, the part is in Omaha (2 hours away) . It's been 2 days ( i would have already had the part from grainger) and service Legends inform me that the part won't be there till most likely next Tuesday! So ti fix a simple zone damper takes 7 days ! Way off from the promises made in my contract! Anyone who's thinking about using this company should think again! read more

I had an ac and furnace install 4 years ago with the gimmick of it's right or it on us. What A bunch of bull all the way down to there top service advisory. The whole system has been a joke and way under the homes needs. But he is right in his statement, this one is on him Mr. Brian Leech. I will let everyone I can know about his company and the scam we received as part of there service. I hope the honest people of this area will be warned enough to do business elsewhere to compensate our out of pocket loss right back to there business. The home they did the repair in is in DSM and I live in California. I've made this clear every time I've called. Their company has called me twice at 6am and woken me up, once on a Sunday, to ask how the service was. The first time I explained, "I do not know, I don't live there." They apparently have pretty bad record keeping because the second 6am call asked me the same thing and she did not apologize when I told her their company had woken me up twice now at 6am. I asked to have my cell number removed from their database. I'm giving them 3 stars because Adam, the tech, was very nice to work with and I'm sure hoping the work was done correctly. read more

I called Service Legends last night at around 1:00 AM. I was actually surprised to get a friendly answer and not some groggy person that I just awoke! They scheduled me for an appointment from between 8:00 and 11:00 AM. I was pleased. I did a live chat mid-morning to see if they were still on schedule. At 11:00 I 'chatted' again to see if I had been forgotten. They took my name and info each time and said someone would contact me. I tried again at 12:00. Another friendly 'chatter' but still no response from Service Legends. Now it is 1:00 and still no response. Company is going to start showing up for the Holiday (Memorial day) and as the outside temp is over 100 degrees we will have to do this inside where it is extremely stuffy. I'm fairly certain that my system needs little service except for adding additional gas. Surely this service call (if they even show up) wont take long. I have even taken the time to spray the area around the A/C for mosquitos to make the tech's already unpleasant job on this sweltering day, a bit less so. I'll follow-up and this review whether they show up or not. It is now past 1:00, and still not even the courtesy of a call or e-mail. read more

I bought their maintenance program for heating/cooling units. Last fall, they came and inspected the furnace which they stated needed $2000 worth of work. So I thought, ok just to make my top of the line furnace (Amana) lasting a few more years. They replaced a part on the humidifier and found out after having it replaced, it still didn't work. They failed to replace the switch on the humidistat! Then, last week they inspected the CA unit, upon which the tech stated that I had a leak and that it would be "wiser" to replace the unit rather than add more R22 which cost an ungodly amount of money. They quoted me a price of $6077 to replace the unit, which was $3000 more than 2 other HVAC installer's gave me. Then I had one of the other company's check my CA line again, they found NO problem or leak. Thank again before you hire these guys. They lie, or try to make your problems seem more than they are, just so they can make a bigger profit off of you. read more

Was given the window of 11am-1pm for one of their techs to arrive, and told they'd call 30 minutes ahead of their arrival time. At 1:15, I called to find out where they were. Turns out they wrote my phone number down incorrectly, and when I didn't answer they apparently canceled my appointment. When they realized their error, I was told they had "a technician there with her"who could be at my place in 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, I got another call saying the technician was held up at another job, and would get to me "soon." Totally different story than previously given. I canceled my appointment and called Schaal, who scheduled me the next day, came precisely when they told me they would, and performed the repair $150 under the original quote. read more

Not so happy right now. We have had our furnace, which we purchased through Service Legends, for 5 years now. It seems to have issues every winter and at some point stops warming our house. We were told there would be 24 7 service available but yet again I go to voicemail and when I get a phone call back I have to wait until tomorrow between 11 and 1 to get someone out here. Guess the fact that its freezing outside is not important. We pay monthly for "Gold" membership and have it maintained like we are supposed to...why bother...wish I would have bought from someone else...Service is not a priority to them. Service Legends to those in the know about heating and cooling systems, obviously does not believe in truth in advertising. I worked in the industry for years, and every time I hear one of Brian's radio commercials, It infuriates me. Why? Because 99% of what he claims is not true. For example, part of his 2000 point so called check seasonal check up claims to tighten, lubricate, clean, calibrate and tighten belts. Since probably the late 60s early 70s, all manufactures of heating and cooling systems have used direct drive blower fans with sealed bearings and no belts to be tightened. Thermostats and other electronics have been solid state for years as well. There's nothing to calibrate, either they work or they don't. The dust that collects inside your furnace does nothing to inhibit its operation and the smell you smell at the beginning of the heating season, is just that a smell. Once the dust burns of the heat exchanger the smell is gone. His most recent claim, that by putting $150.00 bucks or so in his pocket once or twice per year, will make your system last in excess of twenty to thirty years is absurd. His other claim that his tech takes two full hours to complete their inspection is ridicules as well. It shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes for a trained tech to determine if your system is working correctly. I about flipped out when I discovered my elderly Mother In Law was paying someone twice a year to have someone come and bless her system. Take my advice and save your $$$. A heating and cooling system is like flipping a light switch in your house, either the light comes on or it doesn't. Do you have someone come twice per year to go around and flip light switches to make sure the light comes on? I don't think so. There are a few things that you as the homeowner should do throughout the year, such as changing your filter regularly and take a flashlight to shine through the condenser coils outside to make sure they are not becoming clogged, usually with cottonwood trees or leafs or dust, but generally it takes years to clog up these coils in most residential neighborhoods. When Brian makes the statement that they fix it right or its free. Just means he's banking on the reliability of systems today, and that the chances of him ever needing to live up to this claim is pretty remote. Buy yourself a good CO detector, change your filter regularly, listen to your system each season to see if you hear something strange. If its heating and cooling as it did when you turned it off the season prior, chances are its going to keep working fine. read more

Couldn't be happier with Service Legends. We had them out to work on our 22 year old furnace. After working on it for 3.5 hours on a Sunday afternoon, we worked with them to replace it. Curtis and Austen couldn't have provided better service and knowledge. Straight forward, honest, hard working people who gave us a great quote, then matched a competitor's quote, and installed the furnace the next day. Horrible parts mark up. I was charged $165 to replace a $3 part and $479 to replace a $150 part, plus a $99 "service call" I had no problem with the service call fee. It's the mark up for the parts that I just can't get over. Oh, did I mention I had to already replace the parts, and they were installed in July? I was so mad, I had someone else do the work and didn't even care about the possible warranty. I paid $200 vs the $787 Service Legends charged. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I met with a sales person to discuss installing a humidifier. Service Legends was not the least expensive nor the most expensive. I paid Service Legends for the humidifier with a Saturday install date. On Saturday they didn't show. They explained I must have misunderstood. The install was scheduled for Monday at 8:00. I had a nice long talk with the marketing rep that could not contact either the sales rep or the service department. She called me and promised they would arrive at 8:00 on Monday. At 9:20 on Monday I called and cancelled the order. Called the bank and stopped payment on the check. At 9:50 the installers showed up. Good thing the furnace wasn't out, it was 1 degree all weekend. What is wrong with customer service these days? read more

We have bought two furnaces in a time period of 3 1/2 years from SL. (Due to a recent addition). Both times we were promised a rebate. After a huge run around and many phone calls, we did not qualify for a rebate. We think their personnel should know that before promising! I wanted to use some of my saved money from my maintenance plan for filters since we didn't need the fall service with the new furnace but they wouldn't let me. It didn't specify this on the contract. They did give me. $50 credit because of my annoyance which bought the filters though! I couldn't get through to anyone but their receptionist. I would've preferred talking to the owner but could never get that accomplished. And with the new furnace they didn't install a new thermostat so had to make another appt to have a tech come install one. To top it off, when their salesman called me to tell me I didnt qualify for the rebate he ended up hanging up on me. I am pretty stuck with them due to service contract but will probably choose another company in the future. read more

BEWARE of PRICES I spent 2 hours hearing the whole sales pitch because I needed a new ac unit. Granted they sound great. Good warranties, guarantees for everything and one that they would price match. After the 2 hour sales pitch the comfort advisor tells me the amount 7300.00 for one unit. That was more than double other companies. I then asked him to price match he tried his general manager and no answer. He later did call me back got my voicemail. The message was a song and dance. FYI I was comparing the same unit!!!! So unless you want to pay for the commercials and cars. Look somewhere else. read more

Originally called to have a grinding noise in our furnace looked at. I was told that it was the inducer motor and it would cost about $1000 to fix. He told me that I was getting a discount and if I didn't agree to have the work completed at that time the price would go up. I was also talked into signing up for their service plan because I would get a 20% discount on the repair and be able to get a free inspection/tune up within the next year. The discount basically covered the cost of the program. I found out the part that they put in was only about $200, so I paid about $800 for labor on that job. When they came out for the inspection/tune up, they did clean the furnace pretty good but I was then told it was too cold to do the AC unit and that would have to be rescheduled for later in the year. The tech told me they would call me to schedule it. This was around March and they called/cam back for the AC inspection in about August. During the furnace inspection the tech told me we had some negative pressure because the duct work wasn't right and it was going to cost me about $600 to fix. Again I was told that was the "discounted" price but I had to agree to the work at that time or the price would go up. I didn't agree or have the work done. I called Service Legends again this year to get an estimate on a new furnace and AC unit for a rental house I own. I told the guy that came out that it would be about 30-60 days before I made a decision on what I was going to do. When I told him that he started to refuse to give me an estimate stating that the "price is fixed" and it wouldn't be good after that day because the price of copper could fluctuate and cause the pricing to change. I explained that if he couldn't give me a price then we had nothing else to talk about. He then started to try to ensure that they have the best service around and that he would give me a price but it wouldn't be good in 30-60 days. He handed me a piece of paper with the two estimates on it, one for a 80% and one for a 95% efficiency unit. He then told me "I need that back". Meaning he didn't want me to keep the piece of paper. I asked for the numbers on a business card or something and he reluctantly gave it to me. After reviewing all of the quotes it is easy to see why they operate like this. They quoted me about $7500 for the 80% and almost $10K for the 95%. The quotes I got from other well known heating and cooling companies were more in the $5K range. They need you to agree to stuff that day so you can not find out how bad they are taking you to the cleaners. When I was asking him for the estimates he made a remark about me needing to do things this way so I could try to get one large loan to pay for everything I need to do to the house. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish with that remark but I can tell you the only thing it did accomplish was them losing my business. read more

Is it possible for a 0 star rating? Here is yet another poor review. Paid top dollar for an Amana furnace 2 years ago with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. We have a gold club membership with Golden Rule and 10 days ago they checked our furnace and found the collector box is leaking and our humidifier is not putting out a drop of water. The installers with "service losers" put a capped off orifice fitting on the humidifier water line and proceeded to hook it up to the humidifier unit. Not a drop of water is reaching the unit and no humidity is added to our already dry air. On 3/2/15 another one of the service losers came out for a 1 year inspection of our furnace, missing the leaky collector box and the non functioning humidifier. All found by the reliable person from Golden Rule. I let service legends know several days in advance of my appointment what parts they would need to bring to the appointment and the repair person showed up with nothing, looked at the water line and determined it was capped off, didn't even touch the furnace and left after 5 minutes saying they would get parts from their Omaha warehouse and have them overnighted. 3 days later no contact, so I called and spoke with a lady , was put on hold twice and then told the parts were coming from Texas and another state and they would call me when they came in. Asked her for Brian Leech to call me and he farmed the call out to one of his supervisors who left me a VM @1130am, I returned his call at 1230pm to his voicemail and finally heard back at 6 PM. Must be Friday? A simple orifice fitting would take care of the humidifier. We have went nearly 23 months with NO humidifier, a dry home in the winter, and service that simply doesn't exist. For what we paid for our furnace, I expect better service. When we purchase a new central air system this spring we will look for another company that knows how to provide consistent efficient service. The new commercial for Service legends will now say our house feels EXTRA DRY!! Great job Service Legends and Brian Leech. Worthless company, totally worthless. If I could give no stars I would. This company was such a disappointment. I live in a small rural town. My previous HVAC specialist was forced into retirement do to an accident. After hearing all the radio commercials for all these years I decided to give Service Legends a try. I booked a "tune-up" appointment 3 weeks out. they gave me a 3 hour window of arrival. 1 hour left, they called and said that they were running late. I said no problem, I will be home for quite a while and to just get here when they could. She said that she would keep the appt. and call me back in an hour and a half. She did call back in an hour and a half to cancel the appt. I said no problem, that I would be home tomorrow also. She stated that there next available apt was 3 more weeks out. I said that I would go to another company if they could not get to me sooner. She apologized and insisted that it would be 3 weeks, then stated that she really wanted to "make it right" with me. I said that I would listen to her ideas of how to "make it right", she again stated 3 weeks is our next available apt and she would knock off $30.00. Look, I don't have any issues at all paying a premium price for a good quality service. I have a great propane company that I will never change from, a shout out to Ryan at Stubbs Propane. I also never plan to change garbage or insurance companies. The whole fact that she would offer to knock off $30.00 is slightly insulting to me. It is so hard to find quality service anymore. Most people seem to think that they are doing you a favor, and that you owe them. If I find a good company, I never look for cheaper services etc. I will gladly pay for quality service. I recently remember hearing a radio commercial about Brian Leach saying that people often stay with mediocre service or bad service just because they don't want to change. I was willing to change and become a lifetime customer, I guess they just don't need the extra business. Again, don't waste your time with this company. Piss poor company, piss poor. This is a tale of two companies, it seems. We were a SL customer for years after a coworker of mine talked me into giving them a shot. Time after time, they delivered excellence. I was one happy camper; especially when your HVAC doesn't work on a freezing Sunday morning or the A/C dies on a Friday night... Sure, we had some bumps in the road, but nothing that would have made me pull my support for the company. (Still better than all of the other HVAC companies we've had) That was all fine and dandy until I was considering changing careers. I knew that I loved the work SL does, and I was always impressed by the guys they sent to the house, so I thought it was worth looking into. After looking through the employment criteria, I eagerly applied and thought of what might be. I got the call for the first round interview. After listening to Brian talk about the company and why it is the way it is, I would have signed on the dotted line and been there the next day. An interview that was described as "the best one yet" gave me a confidence boost heading into the next round. The next interview was scheduled and happened. It wasn't as good (in my opinion) as the first one, but it was ok (Not too bad considering I was up at 1:30 am that morning so I could get my 8 hours in so my current team wouldn't feel the impact of me taking off for an interview) Obviously, I didn't get a call for the "almost there" 3rd round. After the window of opportunity had closed, I waited about a week and tried to contact HR to verify that I didn't get anything and sought feedback on what I could work on, what they liked, didn't like, etc. I never got a response back. Several weeks later, I tried again, as I was still VERY interested in working at an amazing company like SL... still nothing. I tried to contact one of the people I had interviewed with - again, nothing. A while passed, and we're looking at moving. One of the many communities we looked at moving to was Ankeny, which is MUCH closer to SL than my current residence. I reached out to HR with one last Hail-Mary attempt at seeing if there was ever a chance at working at SL, with the new caveat that we might be moving much closer to the shop. Again, I never heard anything back. How do you go from "Best one yet" to "do not contact"...... At least give me some feedback to I don't hold out hope when it's a definite no, or do I try again.... Needless to say, not too impressed, which is really sad because I did really love this company read more
