Had a new bathroom installed in our basement and the brand new sewer kept backing up. The contractor said that it couldn't have been from his work and refused to do anything about it. Schaal installed a new furnace, AC and water heater in the spring of 2021. We also enrolled in the maintenance program and still have that. Every year the AC fails to work until someone comes out to look at it. We try to book the free AC service from the maintenance program for late April/early May to have it ready for summer but they constantly call to push those appointments due to "high demand for service calls" and frequently don't get that free visit until we call because the AC is working, usually on the hottest day of the year to that point. This year is no different and we have not had AC since Friday July 17th. Called to set up an appointment and the earliest I was told was available is Monday (July 20) afternoon. I asked about priority scheduling with the maintenance program and they said they would put us on an emergency services waitlist. It is now Sunday afternoon and when I called to check they said nobody will be coming before tomorrow with our scheduled appointment. I cannot believe there are that many other priority customers that with all their technicians they cannot get someone out to my house within 3 days. I can only assume it is because the terms of the program also mean I don't have to pay overtime/weekend rates so they are prioritizing higher revenue customers. If I were a potential customer looking to replace an HVAC system I would not go with Schaal again. If I were a potential customer needing service I would not call Schaal either; look for a better locally owned company (Schall was bought out by private equity a few years ago). I'm giving 2 stars as the installation and service in 2021 and 2022 was as expected but fell off quickly after ownership changed in 2022. read more

We had a weekend call after our furnace stopped working overnight. Prior to calling, we tried everything to fix ourselves...but no luck. They came out on a Sunday without charging an emergency fee because it was during the day and normal business hours. Nice! Bode assisted us and even though we had a pretty one off situation and it took him a few to figure out - he didn't stop until he did and we were back up and running. No upselling, no nonsense. Mack and Aaron were excellent to work with for our HVAC needs. They provided complete maintenance of our gas furnance and installed a new high tech thermostat that is really nice. We have worked with Schaal since the early 1990s and have never had a bad experience. The very few times there was some issue, they came back in less than a day and fixed it - no charge ever. We cannot recommend Schaal Heating & Cooling enough! The men, such as Aaron and Mack, are professional, polite, considerate and just really concerned about leaving everything clean. I told the men they did not need to wear covers over their shoes as the weather is so nice but they insisted - I was impressed by that. Won't go on and on but we cannot recommend this company enough. I called for a furnace check before the winter. $75 for a service call. They told us that we should get a new furnace as ours was 20years old. WOW. Did we want to sigh up for $4,200, or more, depending on what they found? Then, insisted on a $199 service call payment, for talking to us, before he would leave. I'm elderly and live alone, so I paid. I asked friends who told us about their experiences and regrets NO GOOD REVIEWS !!! i called several competitors .. NONE CHARGED A PENNY! In 2008 I purchased a new heating/cooling system from Schaal. It was a great experience, quality work, and from that time they serviced my units. In mid-August 2024 my A/C went out, they were my first call. The person who came out reviewed the system and came up and told me that in order to get the A/C working it would be a minimum of $3500 and there was no guarantee that would keep the system working. He also said the heating unit was non-serviceable and turning on the heat could kill us - he made me sign a waiver. So, of course, sitting in my kitchen drenched in sweat and hearing this news I asked him if he'd provide an estimate on a couple of new units. He said he could, but only if I paid for a one year maintenance plan and if I went with them this amount would likely be refunded. So this is how they treat a 16 year customer, and one who was stuck without A/C in 90+ heat. But heat makes you do crazy things, and yes, I paid the maintenance cost to get the estimate. The estimates came back extremely high so I had to do my due diligence and check other companies. Ended up with four others who came right out over the next day and a half -- and guess what - none of them charged me $250 to get an estimate. Obviously I went with a company that treated me with respect and fairness. Since last fall I've sent Schaal a couple of letters letting them know I didn't appreciate their tactics and asking for them to reimburse the $250. I did this in place of going online with a negative review. But given that in a year I've heard nothing from them I wanted to take an opportunity to say to other potential heating/cooling customers - use this information as a component of your review when you're looking for a major HVAC purchase. read more

We need to replace a kitchen sink so we contact them base on their weirdly high google review. Now think about that, they must pay a lot to control all the one star reviews against them and maybe that's why they need to rip people off all the time. They were trying to charge us for over 8000 to get a new sink and that 8000 doesn't included drill a hole on the wall. We have to make a hole on the wall for them, they don't make a hole for us. The other company said they can do everything under 2000 and if they need to make a hole on the wall they will do it themselves no need for our help and price is included in that 2000. Such a big difference that makes me laugh. I don't know how they dare to call themselves professional and charge people ridiculous high price for only half quality service. Ps. I called to get service for my wall unit and my Fourseason room and set an actual appointment. Of course I have to take off work so I can sit and wait for their "window" the tech will arrive. About an hour into the service window. I get a text saying I'm next on the list within about 10 minutes of that text, I get a call from them saying that he doesn't know how long he's going to be And to set me up for another day. And I said no I need my service on my appointment that I set up earlier in the week I had to wait two or three days for this now the unit does not work and I'm calling someone else. I knew I should not have given them another chance after they screwed up installing a water heater. Being a construction manager, I called in and raised all kinds of hell for the water heater and the service manager himself actually came out and fixed it. It was over a half an inch out of plum. They completely tried to scam my elderly mother with a plugged dishwasher. They quoted her $11,000 for a sewer repair that she did not need & somehow got her signed up for an 'extended warranty' . I was looking for a new HVAC system, and for most this is a once in a lifetime investment. I got four different bids, all different as night and day. Schaal was without doubt the worst. Being a modular home with the furnace in a closet, I was interested in moving it to the basement. The other three bids said it would be no problem with all the extra room, but with Schaal the price doubled. In the basement, the others were actually cheaper. At one point they even talked about replacing all of the duct-work. They even sent two guys so they could agree with each other. The bid itself was very simple in that there was no identification of item but brand. It's like saying I'll sell you a Ford for $10,000. If you are going to sell me a big-ticket item, you might want to let me in on just exactly what you are selling me. All other bids I received were good for 30 days. I am late writing this review. My life got very busy after our service but I had time to reflect and decided this should be posted. I has Schaal install our new furnace and ac unit in March of 2023. We purchased a one year additional pack for furnace filter changes and check ups. They began calling me in December 2023 to schedule my check up. We connected and I about fell out of my chair when they said their first available was June. We went ahead and accepted. An hour before our appointment, they messaged their tech was sick and wanted to reschedule for July 3rd. We again accepted. My husband was home to meet the tech where we paid 50 plus dollars for a furnace filter we could've got online for 15$. I let it roll off. Fast forward to an hour after the tech left. My daughter realized that our air was holding at 79 and was no longer working. I panicked and called them. They proceeded to state they would try to get us in before their techs went home for the holiday weekend. Please remember my air was fine prior to their visit. I let the receptionist know I was afraid because it was the 4th of July weekend and it would be peak charges if I had to call another company. She began to get loud with me and said she would see what she could do. I was in a full on panic and left work early to figure out what to do. They called me back 30 minutes later to tell me a manager was going to come which I appreciate. When he got out there, it was two wires on my unit that is outside. My husband realized that while the tech was outside looking at the unit he was also trying to sell us another one year package when we didn't get to use the one we had. My husband thinks it was messed up maliciously due to the nature of the conversation. While I'll never know, I will never let Schaal back in my house. No one apologized or offered anything to make us feel better about what had become a huge deal. I will say the manager that came was friendly and it took him two seconds to correct the issue but knowing if I had been quiet, I would have had to pay another place to come fix their error still doesn't sit right. They are wonderful! Prompt and reasonably priced. They actually had to come out twice, once when we had no heat and no idea why and the second time when we just needed a stronger part to keep things running right. Both guys on the first visit were very nice, knowledgeable and professional. They explained things in "normal" terms and made sure I understood. Craig Thomas was on a solo trip the second time and he was very nice and seemed quite interested in mundane conversation as he fixed our heater. We quoted Schaal for an air conditioner and possible furnace replacement. We got the company name by a referral, so we actually planned to make them our last quote until they came out. Schaal's pricing was at least double any competitor I quoted. The company refused to provide a written quote (only read off price list) and I found the representative who came out unhelpful when inquiring about options. I also found the advertised special at the time ("free furnace with air conditioner purchase") very misleading given the pricing we were offered. read more

They installed two high-end HVAC systems in our home, some years later, they can't even be bothered to order some faceplates for our vents without charging us $99 to send someone out to our home (presumably on top of the charge for the faceplates). They told me I needed a new furnace at the time and recommended I also replace the central air...they had showed me a picture of dust that had accumulated in my furnace...I had a bad feeling about this and cancelled the person who was to come and give me an estimate! Just today I had to have another furnace man come to my home and get my furnace started for a minor problem and was told my furnace may last me many more years! We had Schaal install our new furnace and air conditioning about 1 year ago, and then recently they came out to provide an inspection. The installation of the furnace went by very smoothly, the staff was professional and worked very cleanly, they did all new duct work, and moved our furnace/AC unit from the main living area to the basement. All in about 4 days or so. The furnace/AC works very well and I really appreciated that they sent a technician a year later to inspect everything and to let us know what other services were available. The inspection and maintenance explanation was also thorough and professional, and the technician was quite knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely would work with Schaal again! read more

Was provided a bid for a new furnace and air conditioner which included the existing humidifier to be attached to the new unit. They did not reattach it and disposed of it. They claimed they would attach a new humidifier if I paid for labor. It's been two months and they have not followed through with that arrangement and now they are no longer responding to messages or requests for updates. We used Schaal because they were available for service the day our furnace stopped working. Upon inspection, the tech said we had a bad board. Cost to replace the board was quoted $1131 for the part and $55 to go pick up the part. Having had the same part replaced three years earlier, I checked my previous statement. It was about $550 at that time. (statement was for board and two inline surge protectors for $901). So I scheduled Metro Heating who had previously serviced it. They charged me $642 including tax and trip charge. The Schaal tech told me Schaal had a big parts increase that year due to the tariffs and said that Metro was selling me the board for $50 over their cost. That was a crock of BS that I verified with two other companies. I had scheduled Green Heating and Cooling to service my two furnaces today, a week after Schaal had been here. I asked Green to quote me the price to replace the same board. Their price was $551 for part, $89 for the service call, no charge to pick it up and no charge for the annual service if they would have been performing at the same time. In my opinion, Schaal was attempting to rip me off. They may think that when a furnace is down in cold weather the homeowner is not likely to let the tech leave without completing the repair. That is what have happened with me had I not recalled that the previous repair for the same problem was 50% cheaper. In this case, Schaal would have charged me $1364. Metro charged me $642. Green would have been $685. You can be sure that I will let others know what I think of Schaal y'all. read more
