My unit is 21 years old so that price is on the low-end, but still seems very fair too me. Highly recommend!

I received a call today stating that they never received payment for a service that was provided in August 2023, even though they did receive payment for another location that was serviced on the same day. This was due to them not writing down the correct email for the second location. I do understand that mistakes can happen and that payments are necessary to run the company. However, the way the office manager spoke to me about the payment was very unprofessional. It felt like she was the owner of the company. Due to this, I have decided not to call them back for any of my seven locations in Des Moines. I read on Yelp that "72 is about creating and developing relationships with our customers by providing superior service". However, this is not how they can build a relationship with customers. I have been working in customer service for the past seven years and I have never encountered anyone who has spoken to me in such a manner. I just hope that the owner, Kendel Richlen, reads this and takes action to improve his business for future customers.

But OMG, the price: $368 for 20-30 min of work to replace $45 worth of parts (that's if I buy them retail). So, $320 for 20-30 min of labor. It's America, I don't mind paying people well. But this is just offensive. And they charge you $99 just for showing up, so you're caught in the trap that if you don't hire them, you lose $99. Frame of reference: $368 is roughly equal to what the average American household earns in a WHOLE DAY. (Note: I'm in Des Moines, although my Yelp location shows me in San Francisco).

Corbin who initially came and talked to us was the most knowledgeable of the people we spoke with. Daren, Josh, and Thomas who came on the installation day were on time, polite, and efficient. They explained what they did and explained the system. Our home was left spotless. I was also thankful they were very good about did not harming my plants with the installation. I told the repairman that I had turned it on once and I had no cooling. He checked inside, no problem. Went outside, took the cover off surrounding the air conditioner and immediately could see the problem. My dog had urinated on the corner repeatedly which ate away at everything and corroded the pipes that hold the refrigerant. He said he had to order the parts and it would be $3000 to fix. After 8 days I called and was scheduled for the repair. I never received a written estimate for the repair. Was never told the maintenance call was now a diagnostic call or that I would be charged. Never received a bill for this either. The repairman said it could take up to 4 hours to get it fixed. It took 2.5 hours. I paid and asked for a receipt, was told it would be emailed to me. After 4 days, I called as I had not gotten my receipt. It was promptly sent over. I was charged for 4 hours of work when it only took him 2.5 hours. I immediately called back and explained the overcharge. I was put on hold for over 15 minutes. Then I was told yes, the repair took 2.5 hours, but the additional time charged was from the earlier maintenance calll. I said that was already paid for as I was on their plan. Was told no, since it turned out to be a diagnostic call, not a maintenance call, I was being charged. I said he didnt diagnose anything, once the cover was taken off it was obvious what the problem was. She doubled down on her explanation. I had never been told this, never received a bill for this. I feel i was overcharged for the repair and they were simply making an excuse for the overcharge. I promptly cancelled any further maintenance from this company and will never use them again. ​

    I feel sorry for Smith's Sewer Service…read more Thirty-one years ago I purchased this house and have lived here since then as a single-by-choice woman. During that time I've asked Smith's Sewer Service to help a handful of times with a project, and they always did a very nice job. That was not the case, however, a few months ago. In August, 2024, I needed them again at which time they sent a tech who also needed a plumber to complete part of the project. That plumber worked at Priority Plumbing, and he completed the requested plumbing work very quickly. Everything went well. One of them asked me in the presence of the other individual to pay the entire bill due to Priority Plumbing, which I did in ​three or four days' time. Then this year I scheduled another project with Smith's by email, but I soon received a follow up email saying they would no longer provide service to this property, because my account had been "deactivated". I had no idea what that meant. So when I called to ask why my account had been deactivated, their office manager​, "Heather", said, and I quote, "I don't know, but we must have had a good reason." OK. So in my effort to seek further clarification, I spoke by phone with "Bill in the shop". When I asked him the same question, he said, and I quote, "I don't know, but we must have had a good reason." Feeling under obvious and understandable attack, I emailed them numerous unsolicited documents that provided evidence of my good standing with my bank, which I've been with for over 50 years; my FICO score which literally cannot get much higher than it is, etc, etc, etc, etc. Then I must have asked the "magic question". When I asked Smith's if they received the payment they were owed for their share of the work from the 08/2024 project, their tone changed entirely to one that was irritable and defensive. Begrudgingly, "Bill in the shop" refused to answer that question but agreed to provide service at this address once again. However, by that time, given everything they chose to put me through for so many days after so many emails and ​so many phone calls, I told them I would take my business elsewhere, and I wished them all well. I still do not know why my account was deactivated. It must be that some things in this life are just not meant to be understood.
