Excellent service from a trustworthy company. Have used them a few times from routine HVAC check-ups to HVAC repairs and replacing a water heater. Calls are answered almost immediately and if not they call back in a timely manner. Both the HVAC and Water Heater issues were taken care of same day (next day for water heater since original consult showed needing a replacement unit) but their rates were very reasonable and they don't gauge for 'emergency' service calls. Their techs have always showed up at the scheduled time and been fast but professional. Service Max is a misnomer. Maybe they should be called Service Min because their service has been atrocious. First, after a regular service call at the place that I just moved into, they came and installed the wrong part on my furnace. Workers can make mistakes, but it seems that he did not even test it before he left to be assured that it was working correctly. When the furnace then failed to produce heat that evening on an extremely cold night in winter, they did a temporary fix then did not return at least a week to replace the part. No discount to compensate for my inconvenience. OK, so I just let that one go as one bad experience. Then when I scheduled an additional appointment to have them replace my thermostat, they have scheduled and then canceled three times on the day of the supposed house call. I stayed home on those days, and when they do not show up, it impinges on my daily life. Each time they tell me that they will reschedule, but oftentimes they don't return my calls at all or they don't call back for days to reschedule. I have been very courteous and understanding that they are having employee challenges during this time; nonetheless, the lack of professionalism and respect has been unacceptable. At least give me a timely call back to explain. It has been four months of hassle with this company. I finally decided just to go with a competitor, even though I had signed a long-term maintenance contract with Service Max and I have spent thousands of dollars with the company. read more

They couldn't execute. We scheduled a Friday morning visit (scheduled it earlier in the week so it wasn't last minute). They were scheduled to visit between the hours of 8am-12pm. They notified us at 12:05pm that they overbooked and would not be able to help. I was experiencing a leak from the ceiling in my washroom. I couldn't locate the source, and didn't know whether it was caused by a plumbing or HVAC problem. Malek called me at around 10am Memorial Day, said they had an opening at 2pm. As I write this I've received only one other reply/estimate from any of the other companies I reached out to (which was for later in the week and for about double the final cost. After 1.5 years in our new open concept home we had finally had enough of the extreme temps between the three floors. Mike diagnosed that the original installers had incorrectly sized the return duct and filter. Also, the home had never been balanced. His crew did a great job of fixing the issue and installing the upgrades. The system could finally breathe correctly and the temps were more even. He came back a few weeks later to tweak the balance and everything is great. On Mike's recommendations we added a Dynamic Air Cleaner and a Guardian UV Air cleaner. The house is cleaner and our allergies are almost nonexistent now. We've signed up for yearly maintenance. Mike is extremely knowledgable and great to work with. read more

I called out Malek primarily for an electrician. They were able to send out Steve (electrician) within the same day. He was extremely polite, helpful and even gave me some great tips on home automation products. In hooking up the nest (there were some wiring issues), he checked the furnace and noticed it was pretty filthy. Since we had just purchased the house, we figured we'd go ahead and get it cleaned. I was told over the phone that I would be charged $79 for a "service visit" which would include cleaning the furnace, cleaning the AC condenser on the roof, and running the additional wiring needed for the nest. The following day, as the service was being done we were told that $79 only covered a part of those services and the total was actually going to be over $200. I really appreciated the service provided by Steve. I think he went above and beyond. I was a little annoyed with the breakdown in communication that led to us signing up for an extra service we didn't intend to, and paying more in the process. UPDATED 5/17/17: Malek customer service contacted me, apologized for the mix-up, and offered a complimentary service in order to compensate for the mix-up. Appreciate the fast response and dedication to customer satisfaction. I would definitely use Malek again in the future. read more

beware - they seem to be like so many in the construction/service trades - not trustworthy. the technician that was sent was very inexperienced and conducted most of his diagnostics while consulting with a more senior technician on the phone - fine, not a big deal, everyone needs to start somewhere. where things take a turn is when a simple part was determined to need replacement, I was told only after the part was installed and only then was I told it would cost 180 dollars. I looked up the part - it costs $25 retail. I understand that they have to make money on parts, but that is gouging. Had I been asked (I was in the house) I'd have declined the work. Then, when I get the invoice, I see that they also charged me another $200 to install the part! that was on top of the $119 I was charged for the guy to just show up. I was not told there would be an additional labor charge above the service charge. Even if there was an additional fee...$200 for a 5 minute job? All in, over $500 for a $25 part. nice racket. read more

I cannot rave enough about Mike and this company. I purchased a trane furnace because my other one broke down after 11 years. Mike immediately saw that the previous unit was installed wrong and pitch which caused water inside and unit rusted and secondary cracked. He explained things to us and yes I got several quotes and Service Max gave me the best offer. But it was Mike and his professionalism his knowledge and time given to us why we went with him. His technicians were extremely knowledgeable and installed it within a few days of us ordering it. The day after the installation Mike came out and inspected everything. I had some questions about a noise out of one of my cold air returns and an odor. He immediately explained the odor was due to new electronic filter installed asked if I would like to adjust it. Also showed me how to take filters and unit apart to clean.Also knew immediately why some noise out of only one cold air return and was able to fix it. They did "Kitchen Exhaust Ducting to Roof" for me. They did a good job. They were a team of people. First there is Mike who came to inspect and give estimates (he also gave an estimate to upgrade the electrical panel to 200 A but later I decided it is no necessary to upgrade after consulting another old/more experienced electrician). Then there were someone who arranged the dates etc. Then another two guys came to do the actual work. This might be necessary for a company with a lot of business, though I still think that the old way -- one guy as a dedicated person for communication in the whole process --- would make customer feel better. The two guys worked and discussed with each other pretty well. Initially my plan was to install a new range hood and I already bought it. But they showed me that the old hood/microwave combo can be configured to have the vent up, so no need to install the new one. I agreed that their option is better. One minor issue is that patching the dray wall was not included in the project after they opened the wall to put in the duct to roof. read more

We live in the Galewood area and a heating company located four miles away refused to continue service calls on our aging boiler because we did not live within their service area! It was a blessing in disguise because we found Mike at Malek Heating, located ten miles away. One look at our boiler and Mike identified all the issues and told us the "work" done was to mask the bigger problems. He found the immediate problem within minutes and changed the damper. We have had nothing but trouble with our system in the three years, last week the furnace started leaking again and we found out, there was a bigger problem. I was introduced to Mike Malek through our home inspector who highly recommended him. After discovering some major issues with the HVAC system of a new home purchase, we had Mike come out to examine the system thoroughly. You can tell immediately that Mike is an expert in his field and after asking many questions and doing an examination gave his opinion on the situation. We were very impressed with Malek Heating & Cooling. Our old air conditioning system gave out on one of the hottest days this summer. Our repairman said that it was not worth repairing, since it was over 26 years old. We decided to get four estimates. We called Malek Heating & Cooling in the morning and asked for an estimate to replace both our furnace and air conditioner, and a technician came out the very same day. He arrived on time and was very knowlegeable. The salesperson in the office was also very impressive. We called a couple of times with questions and she got the information right back to us. She also emailed information to us. We decided, in the end, to use another vendor, but our experience and impression of Malek's technician, salesperson, and overall responsiveness to our calls was very favorable.
