WARNING OF PREDATORY PRACTICES - DO NOT USE SERVPRO *** If you think the water and/or fire damage you've experienced is traumatic, just wait until you've experienced working with ServPro. The predatory practices employed by this company cannot be understated. Not only did they submit an invoice to us for $45,000 for water remediation, but their harassment including repeated threats of putting a lien on our house. But more about that shortly. *** The long and the short of it is: * When you're in distress, you'll "sign" anything -- predators will take advantage of this * When predators think they can do whatever they want and someone will ultimately pay for it, they will do so * They will attempt to bring in more machines and do more demolition than is necessary (under the guise of "preventative measures", that means more $$$ to them - they will rack up as many charges as they think they can get away with * They will charge you for service they did not perform * When they play chicken with the insurance company on invoicing *you*will be the one caught in the middle * They will threaten you with liens, lawsuits and whatever they deem effective instead of working with insurance on a resolution * Instead of feeling taken care of, you will be left taken advantage of with PTSD about the potential for something similar happening in the future Bungled plumbing on an upstairs remodel flooded our downstairs with 2-3 inches of water. After shutting off the main, I called ServPro as their company was the first that came to mind. When they arrived, they had me sign a contract on an iPad, that I never received a copy of (digital or physical), they started moving water and furniture out of the house. They asked for insurance information and were connected to a call center representative from USAA who implied they could do what they needed to do related to abatement. And the concept of "carte blanche" began. Once they helped remove the standing water, the immediately brought in machines to the upstairs and began ripping out flooring, doors, and drywall (walls and ceiling), and told me they'd need to remove tile from the floors and tub surround. With a wink they told me explicitly "we'll get insurance to pay for all of it and you'll get a whole new bathroom". I told them I wasn't interested in removing the tile and we should wait until we determine whether it was truly necessary. Unfortunately for us, our insurance adjuster came to the site a few days after work had begun and immediately bristled with the ServPro team about their approach. This inability to work in a coordinated fashion led to ServPro-versus-USAA dynamic with us in the middle. They brought 30+ machines into our home for over a week (water extraction, HEPA filters, heaters and blowers) which ultimately accounted for $33,000 of the $45,000 bill. Standard practice is to remove machines as they are not needed, which did not happen at our house. THIS IS WHERE THEY MAKE THEIR MONEY. Also be warned that they will offer to take items from your house, "clean and store" them. They took our rugs and stored them for which we (and insurance) were billed $1500. For three rugs. Three rugs. They will hold your belongings until they've been paid in full. Do not let them take your items. That leads us to the threatening phone calls. In mid-June, we received a call from Steve, the owner of ServPro of Redmond who demanded payment in full, complained about the lack of communication with USAA and threatened to put a lien on our home and a halt to our remodel efforts. We immediately obtained legal counsel. It was clear that these threats were intended to get us to put pressure on our insurance company, and it worked. We ended up escalating with USAA, and were able to broker conversations between ServPro and USAA. As an aside, it's incredibly unnerving when someone threatens your home and your credit, particularly when it's out of your control. At the end of the day, ServPro acknowledged that *maybe* they didn't need all of the machines they brought and *maybe* they didn't offer the weekly discounts they should have - ultimately ServPro and USAA agreed on a significantly lower amount, and they have been paid. I don't know whether this is indicative of how all ServPro franchises operate, but this was one of the worst experiences we've ever had with a service company. There are many alternatives out there, I strongly recommend using ANYONE BUT SERVPRO. read more

SERVPRO of Redmond has provided service on two occasions when we've had leaks in our home. In both cases, they've been able to provide after-hours service and clearly explain the remediation steps. Our second engagement with them is just starting, but I was particularly impressed that the owner, Steve, got back to me quickly; did an initial over-the-phone initial quick assessment to confirm no need for same-night service; and made time in his schedule to come out the next day (a Saturday), despite the fact that all remediation services are overbooked due to widespread flooding. Prices for the work seem reasonable, and their quotes are very transparent, listing every line item and damaged-area measurements that they took while on-site. I've been nothing but pleased with SERVEPRO of Redmond's service and professionalism. read more

Ok. I am done. It's been FOUR years and the owner is still harassing and threatening me on Yelp. If you think you have a case to sue me, by God, just do it already. This is getting really old, really annoying, and given what my attorney has found out about this owner--a bit scary he's still so obsessed with this. --The update I posted that was removed by Yelp was a cut/paste of a private message from a 'company' called Cyber Investigations, LLC http://www.cyberinvestigationservices.com/ who claimed to be hired by an attorney to reach out to settle this matter. I forwarded all the information to MY attorney and did not respond. The removal of the review was warranted, as I did publish their name, email and phone number, while exposing the fake accounts they were starting under other names in order to contact me through Yelp-- I have faithfully and truthfully updated this review at each stage of this man's psychotic obsession. I even increased the star rating when he acted halfway decent (short-lived), which is documented below in each of these updates. I cannot change records that are four years old. As I said many times, IF IF IF IF IF it is the wrong address, I cannot rectify that now! He suggested specific competing franchises I should put this under instead.(published PM below) So, he's totally OK with an incorrect/inaccurate review on someone else's business and damaging someone else's reputation--just not his. Classy. My recommendation is you never hire this man for anything as he will hound you for years if you don't succumb to his demands. He's convinced other reviewers they 'had the wrong address' (or faked accounts to do it). I find it REALLY unlikely any/all negative reviews that aren't filtered are ALL for the wrong location. I paid for part of the horrible service done to my residence, (ever heard of a deductible?), was in direct contact with my landlord, the insurance agent and the on-site workers on a DAILY basis and EVERY piece of paperwork I've ever seen had the Redmond name or address (he's also previously attempted a create duplicate listing of his business at his HOME address in Bellevue, another way he is trying to game Yelp instead of following the rules) . My landlord is a gem, and always keeps me in the loop or lets me lead any project that happens inside this home. He also graciously went through records and called insurance agents YEARS after this to ensure what I had was what the paperwork recorded. Based on his behavior and past (publicly available) criminal record, I will NOT give him direct contact or reveal other people's (landlord) contact information. I am not about to have him beating down my door or harassing my landlord. Steve : You've shown every potential customer that might have come from Yelp why they shouldn't hire you all with your own actions, not mine. Please leave me alone. Do not PM me, do not review me or about me, do not continue following me onto Talk threads, do not contact me in any way shape or form. Every contact ever received and screen shots of Talk threads have been forwarded to my attorney. -------------------------------------- Working with servpros at work now, I can tell you well over half, for some locations up to 100%, their business comes NOT from individuals, but insurance companies. I highly doubt insurance companies surf Yelp before dispatching a remediation crew. I really suggest that Steve learn to accept he cannot control everything, and spend more time using Yelp properly, and understanding what Yelp is, what it is for, what their rules and policies are and how the site functions. It is not his personal page, and not in his sole control. Acting like an adult, with professional demeanor --not emotion, rants and obsessions-- would go a lot farther to build his business than anything else. He should also take his own advice, as his own reviews he's now writing are lambasting other businesses without the grace and accordance he himself demands. Continuing to harass, malign, threaten, follow, contact, or otherwise connect to me in any way will result in legal action--just by me against him. read more

Our insurance company recommended Servpro to perform a clean up of a septic back up situation that occurred in our home. We were very pleased that Steve N. and his crew showed up and went to work on that same day to remove the affected flooring, drywall, carpet, furniture, etc. Steve answered all of our questions thoughtfully, thoroughly and patiently and explained how the process of dealing with his company and the insurance company would go. He was just great. They worked quickly and efficiently to set up dehumidifiers and fans to dry out any moisture remaining, and contained the affected area. At least one crew member came each and every day to check on the dry out process. Steve N. also set up another contractor to work on the situation under the house, which made it nice that we didn't have to search for and schedule a contractor during this stressful time. Toward the end of the process, the owner (also named Steve) came out to the house to see that everything was done to our satisfaction. He was very professional while maintaining a caring and friendly demeanor. We would recommend Servpro to any of our friends and family. We just can't thank them enough! read more

Do not be fooled by the initial line of "we will work with you" and "we are here to help you." This SERVPRO franchise has no transparency in the billing and invoicing process. I have used Servpro of Redmond twice and it was top notch and exactly what I hoped for both times. Situation #1 was with a client who I provided remodeling services for, who needed a "contents pack out and temp. storage." Having a third party company handling my client's personal belongings, with tight timeline restrictions, was a huge leap of faith for me and Steve and his team delivered. They were professional, on time, organized and great communicators. My client gave me a report of services when his belongings were brought back to the house and his words were, "boy, I am so thankful for the recommendation for the Servopro of Redmond team." Situation #2 was very recent, and involved a comprehensive analysis of a structure that I am currently converting into habitable living space for another client. Steve once again fielded my call personally, and immediately brought his team of experts to the site to conduct their moisture readings and air quality assessments. There was evidence of what appeared to potentially be microbial growth, along with "higher than usual" moisture readings in some places. There had also been a major Rat infestation in this building. Steve's team completed their comprehensive report, made a detailed proposal and immediately began executing what was needed. The peace of mind afforded to my client is hard to quantify in words. You can imagine how stressful it would be to deal with the things mentioned above, let alone be left to "clean up the mess." If I could summarize what I have experienced with Steve and his team so far in one sentence it would be this: They specialize "taking care of the mess" Thanks so much Steve. I had an overflowed sink the night before Thanksgiving. Servpro was on site with in a couple hours and despite the holiday, made it a priority to make sure they did everything possible to mitigate any potential long term effects of the spill and did a great job with the cleanup and getting the area dried out. The team kept a close eye on the drying over a period days and were efficient with removal of any wet or damaged material. Several different people from Servpro visited my home over a period of days to monitor the drying process and complete the cleanup. All were professional and very knowledgeable about managing these types of situations. I also worked directly with the owner Steve and found him to be him to be knowledgeable, professional, and very easy to work with. I cannot speak to the cost of the project as the insurance company was billed directly and all I paid was my insurance deductible. I would recommend Servpro Redmond without reservation and would call them first if I ever had need for cleanup or restoration. read more

We hired servpro when we had water damage to help us at our insurance company's suggestion. They were difficult to get to come out and they arrived very late but they did arrive. Initially on the phone they said that they would pull back the carpet to dry, etc. and when they arrived they wanted to do less. They didn't monitor the drying situation very often, they usually appeared to keep normal business hours so we may have been charged more because it was infrequent check ins. They did do the damage removal and they had the equipment. There was no quote provided and so at the end you get an itemized invoice. Since even a small area, like 100 square feet can cost potentially thousands, it's very expensive to have them do the work so it would be nice if you knew in advance. I knew that they were very busy at the time that we called them. They did complete the work and billed our insurance company. Several of their employees are more thorough and explain more than others. They know what they are doing and they are set up for it. However, they are very expensive and if they are busy then they don't have as much time to monitor and you are paying a lot to have the fans there. If you have a small area and you are not doing a large insurance claim then you might want to consider going and buying fans and dehumidifiers and a tool that tests the moisture in the walls. It would be cheaper than paying thousands of dollars for a few hundred square feet of damage mitigation. They were not always good at communicating and did not come back and lift the furniture for the carpet to dry afterwards as promised but we were able to finally get it lifted on our own. read more

Good and confusing.... I thought the guys did a good job of getting water cleaned up in a timely manner. Their work is solid. One thing to be aware of....you will get an initial quote and then after job is done you will receive a final invoice. That invoice will be what they determine is the appropriate cost, however you will not be notified of variance to the estimate. As they told me over the phone today - it could be $250 or it could 400% over the estimation. You won't know the real cost until receiving the invoice. read more

My insurance company told me to call them for water damage remediation. Boy was that a mistake! I needed someone reliable to take care of my rental in Redmond, WA. The company owner Steve, over promised, under delivered and didn't even follow their own policies and procedures. Some companies should just turn down business instead of provide exceptionally poor service, but they didn't. They damaged my appliances and walls without recourse as well. The people at Servepro are excellent at communication. They came out immediately to assess the damage and provide an estimate. (The final charge was very close to the original estimate.) They performed the work they said they were going to do and finished it on time. They were not able to leave two scrubbers at my place for 2 days as planned, but made up for it by leaving 1 scrubber for 10 days at no extra charge. The guys who came out to my place were energetic, enthusiastic, and all-around nice guys. I would call upon Servepro again, if needed. read more

Steve Alling and his cleanup crew were nominated by our insurance company when we recently flooded our kitchen and parts of the basement below. They were on site within a couple hours and had their equipment in place drying the place out within another hour. Now we're all dried out and based on the professionalism and care that Steve extended to us, we have hired his crew to also manage the installation of the new cabinets and countertops that it was just time to do now. I came home from vacation to a flooded house and called Servpro; I remembered a TV commercial they had ran at one point. From the initial point of contact, the Servpro of Redmond team was on it! They not only isolated the core issue, but did a thorough job of inspecting other areas of the home that might not be visibility damaged. I truly felt as though they were working for me and were there to get me through this bad situation with as little pain as possible. Steve (the owner) was very hands on to ensure things were going according to plan and does a good job handling these complicated jobs. Once I got through the various insurance issues, I needed to perform reconstruction. Little did I know that this Servpro handled construction too, so that gave me one point of contact from start to finish. This was is April of 2013.
