This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the city. Ray and his partner are meticulous in their preparation of the delicious items they prepare. We have missed them during their time of closure and look forward to them reopening their doors. Excellent food at great prices really can't be found in a lot of places these days, but Sesame House never disappoint. This small restaurant deserves a visit. Limited seating, not much ambience, but excellent food, attentive service, and good variety. I have eaten here several times and done takeout even more frequently. Some of the standout menu items are the hot and sour seafood soup, cold sesame noodles, steamed dumplings, and their aromatic house Chinese tea. Plenty of parking in the plaza parking lot. I have never been disappointed with the quality of their food or the service. We will continue to come back to this establishment. read more

A long overdue update since my last review for Sesame House. The dining room for "eat in" is re-opened. Otherwise, all of my other previous review comments still apply. Ordered takeout tonight. Lady on the phone was so monotone and not personable at all. I should have know when I ordered in quarts and pints that I wasn't going to get what I was looking for in terms of Chinese food. What we ordered * crispy tofu * dinner special general tso chicken * veggie lo mein * sautéed string beans * vegetable fried rice * beef ho fun Thoughts * my tofu wasn't crispy by the time I got home but it was decent, nothing to write home about. I've had some gooooood crispy tofu but this was basic. * general tso chicken was in big chunks which was great but the flavor just wasn't there for us * lo mein had no flavor, these noodles are basically the reason I don't enjoy Americanized Chinese food. I decided to try this place based off the reviews. I am VERY picky about about Chinese restaurant. The reviews marveled about how fresh the food is and how boneless chicken breast is used in most chicken dishes. So we ordered Orange Chicken, Sweet & Sour chicken, shrimp and broccoli . We ordered combination platters and they came with soup and an egg roll. The food was very fresh and the flavors were on point. This place for me is just a bit of a take out spot. But it is very clean and the service is good. They are open pretty decent hours and have an easy order process online. read more

Small restaurant with limited seating (closed for now due to Covid), we did takeout of fried veggie dumplings, egg roll, curry chicken and chicken with garlic sauce. Dumplings and egg rolls were flavorful but about half the size we would get in North Buffalo. Portions for the main courses were also a bit undersized. The curry chicken had great flavor and a good spicy kick to it, my wife found the garlic chicken inedible due to the poor quality of the chicken-dark meat and fatty. We won't be returning. read more

We tried this place because the one we usually go to was closed for the day (Sunday). We were pleasantly surprised. The food was great quality, it tasted cleaner than most Chinese Food places, if that makes sense. You could tell it was real white meat from the chicken and the veggies tasted fresh. The egg rolls are huge!! The veggie lo mein and the fried rice were soooo good!! The only complaint I have was the crab Rangoons. It's very hard to find a place that does everything perfect. There is always something off. The crab Rangoons were that thing. There was no detectable crab meat in them, and the flavor was just really bland. I'm always on the hunt for good Chinese takeout, and I feel as though I lucked up here. The place is reasonably priced, the portions are plentiful, and the service is great. I love their orange chicken. I'm really picky about chicken, so I don't always like ordering it when I'm out, but their chicken is delicious, not at all grisly, and it's none of that artificial stuff. I have yet to try to general tso's but that is next on my list. I also love their shrimp and broccoli and shrimp fried rice. It and none of their food is greasy, which is something you often deal with fried rice. The food is very flavorful and always fresh. It's always piping hot too. I definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for takeout as it's a small place on the inside, and I can't imagine dining in though there is space for it. read more

Was going to order from my go to Chinese restaurant, but saw on Yelp that Sesame House was closer and rated at 4.5 stars. We put in our order for four lunch specials: sweet and sour chicken, beef lo mien, beef with broccoli and beef with mushroom. We also added an appetizer of steamed wontons to the order. At $5.95, the lunch included rice and a soup which is a terrific price. For an extra dollar you could get an egg roll in place of soup. Overall the price, quality, etc. was very good and the order was available on time. It's everything I'd expect from takeout Chinese food. read more

To all my fellow northtowners!! If you're searching for amazing Chinese food.. you NEED to order from the Sesame House! I just ordered and it was the best Chinese I've ever had. The orange chicken actually tasted like ORANGE flavored chicken (ha, who knew!?), the sweet and sour chicken were massive with breading that was light and fluffy- which my husband noted it was golden and fresh tasting which we concluded they probably change their frying oil frequently, and the chicken lo mein had chunks of chicken, not the strips that sometimes make you question if it's actually chicken or not! and get this-- it wasn't any more expensive than all of those other Chinese restaurants, and the quality was far better. Overall ok, food for price is good. The quality could be better, I got a general Tso chicken lunch special. There wasn't the crusting I expected on the chicken and the included wanton soup only had 1.5 wontons in it. Atleast the rice was good. Overall the flavor was a little bland. So, I intended to take some photos of my food. I promise, I really did. However, I figured I'd do it after a bite. Needless to say, there wasn't anything left by the time my camera was ready. After eating at this restaurant for a few years, I have settled into a delicious groove where I enjoy ordering Wonton Soup, General Tso's chicken, brown rice, and the occasional appetizer. Last night, we went for the steamed dumplings. The soup was nicely seasoned and had hearty wontons. These wontons feature a thicker noodle and a substantial serving of flavorful filling. This was the first time having the steamed dumplings in a long time. The texture of the noodle was perfect, the filling flavorful and well textured, and the sauce was quite complimentary. Their dumpling sauce has changed a bit over the years, and I must say, the most recent version is definitely my favorite. Finally, the crown jewel was the chicken. I have to echo what Asha said, this truly is one of the few places where you don't have any qualms about indulging in the fried chicken chunks. They may even be breast chunks? I don't know, but they are fantastic. The breading is crisp without being burned or bitter tasting. The sauce is mildly sweet and tangy while being refreshingly spicy. Be back soon! read more

My $50 order took an hour and a half to make and is a lukewarm mess. Although it looks appealing it is basically just cornstarch slime. The dumplings are mostly old dough with mystery meat. I ordered ginger chicken (barely any flavor and thickened with cornstarch) and beef with mushrooms (again so much cornstarch it's inedible.) I'm starving and nauseated at the same time. I ordered through Postmates and for once the order wasn't delayed because of them. Now it's too late to have any other food delivered and I'm out $50. This place has really gone downhill! Ordered a very small order for pickup. The girl who took my order was rude and said it would be 30 minutes. When I got there ,35 minutes after ordering, was told it would only be a few minutes and girl cashed me out. She told me to pull my car up and she would bring it out. I sat in my car for another 10 minutes and watched customers come out with their food. I had to go back in and get the girl to come out with order. I'm thinking they forgot my order. My wife and I stopped in to get a quick bite to eat while we were out shopping. It was our first time here. We ordered the steamed pork dumplings. The atmosphere is very pleasant, modern and clean. The dinning room is decorated with flat panel screens and gleaming photos of Hong Kong's skyline. The dumplings arrived in about 5 minutes. There were six filled with a nice portion of pork inside each one. They were simple, delicious and fresh. Just like a dumpling should be. While waiting, we had a pleasant conversation with the owner. Maybe the only Chinese restaurant where I've cut into a piece of General Tso's chicken and not wondered if it is, in fact, actually chicken. Prompt service, I got take out, was early and it was already ready. Small but nice inside, food was great - I think the veggie rice had mushroom in it (which was my fault for not checking or asking) but definitely my best experience with Chinese food that I've had in the Greater Buffalo Area in regards to cleanliness and quality of food! My family and I love american Chinese food. We've been trying different places. My husband and I are from NYC which has the best american Chinese food but there are some good places here in Buffalo. Unfortunately, one of the negative reviews I read on yelp before ordering was spot on: while the food is fresh, it has no flavor. The orange chicken barely had flavor. The pork fried rice had absolutely no flavor and hardly any veggies in it. The dumplings were super doughy and even the sauce was odd. The only dish that was ok was the teriyaki beef. My family was not happy and we all decided not again for this place. My sons love lo mein but they said the shrimp lo mein was so so. I'm a huge fan of Chinese and this is one of my favorite places to go. They have the good crunchy soup noodles where most places just serve those rice noodles, excellent (actually flavorful) wonton soup, and great pricing for their lunch special. Overall my 2nd or 3rd favorite place in the area! Plus the staff when picking up your order are always extremely nice and outgoing. My only complaint is that for takout orders they don't give you silverware in the bag, so you have to remember to grab it on the way out. read more

Yum! After a year and a half of trying various chinese takeout restaurants in WNY, we've finally found a place that we will order from again. Food was fresh and delicious. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, chicken lo mein, pork egg rolls, BBQ ribs and Szechuan beef. The SS chicken was not over cooked and every piece had chicken, not just lumps of fried batter. Other places we've ordered from over the last year have made it look like there was more chicken by adding lumps of fried batter. Food was flavorful. It was not greasy either. Lots of Chinese restaurants we've ordered from around here drown the food in grease. The reason we gave 4 instead of 5 stars was because the online system was not working properly. However the owner (or man in charge?) was very pleasant, apologetic and did an excellent job expediting our order. We even made it home in time to watch S.H.IE.L.D! Lol! If the food is as good next time as it was this time, it would definitely be 5/5 stars! Now, if we could only find a pizza place that had real NYC style pizza....... read more

I've wanted to try Sesame House for a while as I live near by. I stopped in this afternoon for lunch and got a take out lunch special of Chicken with garlic sauce, fried rice and hot and sour soup. The food was exceptional. it was the freshest fried rice I've had in a long time. I usually douse my fried rice with soy sauce and this did not need it at all. Delicious!!! The chicken with garlic sauce was so tasty I couldn't stop eating it. I'm saving the soup for another meal as there is no room left in the inn. read more

I had an unbelievable experience with this restaurant. Have ordered several times and food was fabulous. However my experience last night saved my believe in customer service beyond believe. I placed an order on line, as I was at a graduation. When we left I called to check on the order, I got no answer and realized they closed at 9:00 pm. So I figured we were out of luck and went home. Five minutes after we reached home they delivered our food, I couldn't believe it, he said they were leaving when they got our order and didn't want us to go hungry, so they went back cooked our food and delivered it!!!! absolutely amazing.
