The clean, large salon had a lot happening. I haven't been in a large salon in 20 years. They had a menu of freebies on the table at check in. How exciting! One star down because...no one asked if I would like anything. Not while I waited, not while I had my hair done and nothing to go. Not even water guys! Wow what lack of customer service. Why have a delightful looking menu? Second my hairstylist Beth took her time and gave me layers. I asked for layers. Lots of layers, however my thin, barely there hair got way too chunky (and not blended) in some areas rendering HOLES in my hair. It took me a minute to write this review and the cut thank goodness is growing out. Will I return, probably not. Finding a new hair cutter that works for your hair is one of the hardest things out there. read more

Very disappointed in the service. When you pay top dollar to get your hair colored it is disappointing to have 2 people squeezed in while your hair is processing. I loved my visit and had a very talented stylist. Prices are good and everyone is just so nice. I received tea, and while we were cutting my hair, the spa technician cane over and gave me a hand massage, testing out a new hand cream she'd received and wanted feedback on it. How sweet is that? Great salon! Very cute on the inside and flexible with appointments. I called 10 minutes before I wanted to come in and they were able to give me an appointment. Only reason for the four star rating is because the color of my nails looked nothing like what I chose. I wanted a soft pink and somehow got invisible. Not worth the cost for what I paid ($50). When I chose the color, it was shown to me on a plastic nail that made it look WAY different. More accurate examples of the nail colors would go a long way. Ultimately, my nails are smooth and nicely filed... With a polish that is extremely underwhelming. One should use extreme caution when booking an appointment at this salon and using a credit card. I would NEVER spend my hard earned money at this salon again and had a very bad experience, having been given a Christmas present by mother for color and cut with a quoted rate of $180 plus tip. While my stylist was wonderful and the salon itself is top notch, it was extremely expensive and I was not told that the services were going to be almost double of what was given to the front desk for the budget, nor was I given a receipt at the end upon checkout. My mother only learned yesterday when she received her credit card statement that the bill was $380 which included a $63 tip!!! (rather than $200) as agreed upon. We've spoken in length to the operations manager yesterday to no avail and surprisingly to my dismay the owner of the salon refuses to take any client calls. One would think a business owner would be highly interested in the satisfaction of his clients and would also rather avoid yelp reviews such as this one. Oh well, they refused to discuss any compromise or admit any fault of their own. It was their failure to communicate the additional fees after they were supposed to make note of her request and budget for a gift. Unless your rich and famous, I would suggest avoiding this salon like the plague. read more

I love Rituals. I feel like it is my home away from home. I get my lashes done with Madison, facials with Alla & hair with Errin B. The vibe is so welcoming & comfortable. Everyone there is so friendly as well as helpful when asking about product types I should use for my skin & hair. Madison P. is amazing with all things lashes(she also does facials & waxing). I have done lash lift/tints and extensions with her for the past year and end result is always perfection. Alla is so enthusiastic about skincare and preventative maintenance to keep you looking fresh faced no matter your age. She is always educating herself about new procedures & treatments. Every appointment with her I leave relaxed & refreshed. Errin is amazing with cut & color of all types. I am simple but my hair looks amazing every time I leave her chair. Very easy to schedule with. My brother recommended I come here to try it so I scheduled an eyebrow wax appointment. Everything was great! I like that they have a chat box where you can speak with someone virtually to schedule an appointment rather than call on the phone (Introvert approved!) The lady who I spoke with on the chat was very friendly and personable! Upon arriving for your appointment, you must sanitize your hands and have your temperature taken - which is a nice and much appreciated extra step during this pandemic! There were quite a bit of people in there which was a little overwhelming, though everyone is required to wear a face mask, which is a relief! This was my first time going to a "real salon/spa", I've only ever been to Hair Cuttery or Great Clips before, but everyone here was SO friendly and welcoming and made me feel very comfortable in this new environment! Very beautiful place on the inside, too! Definitely looks and feels like a spa! In mid December, I called Rituals to pay $ 200.00 in advance as a gift to my daughter for a haircut and color. I was told they would not accept a prepayment, but that I can give them my credit card information to use for this amount on the day of my daughter's appointment. I decided to do this in that manner since I was going to not be be available during the latter part of December. Mistakenly, I relied on the integrity of this business to follow my specific instructions. Unfortunately, when I received my credit card bill, the charge on my statement for this service was $ 381.00. Despite my attempt to discuss this issue with the salon manager, she refused to listen to my explanation about the use of my card or how no explanation of the cost of services was provided to me or to my daughter. The owner was not willing to discuss the matter with me and the manager was unwilling to consider any compromise (such as refunding any portion of the fee for service or the gratuity in excess of $ 60). She insisted that the blame laid solely on me and my daughter. Needless to say, I was stunned at the attitude from a service business that relies on their customers to be successful and who gains access to their customers' credit cards to use as they so desire. read more

She refused to cut my hair, saying that she didn't feel comfortable and that someone else could do it but never offered to have "someone" cut my hair today. Erryn has been my stylist for several years and I've never been made to feel this way! Additionally, I told them that they had lost a customer and I would not be back and nothing was said, not even an apology! After I left, I called back to have them cancel all of my appointments and spoke to Mary Glenn and it was more of the same. She said, " OK I'll cancel all of your appointments." I can't believe I haven't discovered Rituals before now! Id been to the same salon for 4 years and loved my stylist but she left so I was on the hunt for a new place. I tried another place and it was a disaster... then I found Judy at Rituals! I will never go anywhere else. First of all, Judy was fantastic- she took the time, listened to what I wanted, and then delivered! My hair will take a couple visits to fix from the last woman but already after one visit with Judy, it's tremendously better. It actually looks great (even though there's still a bit to fix). Already booked my next appt with her! Now, for the salon itself... I have never felt so pampered getting my hair done. When I arrived, I received a tour of the facility, was offered a variety of beverages and a hot neck wrap (it was soooo relaxing). Then when Judy finished applying my color- complimentary champagne (or wine, beer, coffee, chai tea, etc). I, of course, chose champagne because well, why not?! Then while my color was processing I was treated to a complimentary hand massage with Eminence Organics' Coconut Lotion. You're probably thinking, "yea, complimentary, right..." I paid the same thing I've been paying for years for far less. The price ranges are right on par with all of the other salons in Richmond- Mango, Bombshell, Aveda, etc. but I got so much more for my money here. read more

I wasn't thrilled with the androgynous hair cut although I support people who sexually identify as binary. Every time I go to rituals spa I get the pleasure of speaking to the receptionists that are are impressively rude matched equally by their breath taking stupidity! My son went for a haircut the day before prom. His hair is long in the front especially. He told them he had prom and only wanted a trim and it shaped. He came home with a crew cut! Even when I went back and showed them, they gasped. They were nice and understood, but unfortunately, you can't put hair back. I guess really pay attention to which stylist you get. Since moving to the area, I've yet to find a place that would keep me as a loyal customer. Nothing personal; I just found "it", yet, you know what I mean? My hair was way too long. Thick, coarse hair almost to my elbows? I'm not Gisele, so, no--it had to go. A friend recommended Allie at Rituals. She was wonderful: confident, approachable, capable. She shaped up the mess growing out of my head. It was a little bit of a shock once all those inches were gone, but I'll go back. The space is gorgeous. Elizabeth was very friendly and was able to recreate my usual cut based on my description of what it normally looks like when I leave the salon so I was one happy customer! Pixie, short, or edgy cut? This is the place. Cameron does a great job with short hair, bobs, etc. and recounts what she's doing as she goes so you can replicate the style at home. My sisters and I were in from out of town for a wedding and in searching for salons by our hotel for updos, I found Rituals. Thank god I did! The experience to put it simply, was nothing short of amazing! From my initial call to make appointments, Allison was an absolute sweetheart and so accommodating. I have very difficult hair to work with (I have extensions and my natural hair is VERY thin). The initial stylist I was scheduled with started my updo and ended up turning me over to Allison, who is the style education instructor. She is a pure genius!!! She knew exactly how to work with my hair and made it look more amazing than I could have imagined, all while making me comfortable and at ease. She is extremely knowledgeable about the products without trying to push a sale and she is quick to jump in if any stylist needs a consult or assistant. The customer service is top notch! While my sisters and I were styled, one of the technicians came around to administer personal hand massages while another offered us glasses of champagne. I've been going to this salon for years now. Unfortunately, they do not uphold to their cancellation policy without charging you for a rescheduled appointment. They guarantee prior business day cancellation/reschedule requests without penalty. Jessica Skim is the operations manager and is extremely rude and condescending to understanding medical needs of clients. Jessica stated "oh well, I can't help that you have medical issues and can't come, I have to make sure we're making money, and hung up the phone after stating there's nothing I can do for you aaawwww." Extremely rude, unprofessional, and condescending. It almost seemed unreal how much character was portrayed in her delivery. I asked to speak with the owner to provide my feedback and Jessica refused to provide Pete's contact information. I am a lady of professionalism and morals and treat others with respect. When a client visits the "Spa" geared salon - they are seeking to enjoy a relaxing time of service. Not an establishment that disrespects it's clients to the utmost the way Jessica interacts. A salon's brand is representation of its management. If I could rate a negative 5 stars I would. Completely dissatisfying. read more

I was in the area for a wedding and wanted to have my sometimes-unruly hair done up all pretty for the occasion. I asked for something loose and to the side- pretty, and romantic, and definitely not tight. This gorgeous 'do is what I got and I couldn't have enjoyed it more! I got heaps of compliments. It even stayed done through all my dancing and toddler-chasing. While getting my hair done, the ladies I met were SO courteous and friendly. This is a great place for men's cut and styling. Emily made the absolute best out of the remnants of my last not-so-good haircut (from another reputable salon) and REALLY made me happy. I would absolutely recommend her for either a man's traditional haircut or for contemporary styles. I'm a realtor who also plays in a band so my typical style is somewhere in between. I toggled between giving 4 or 5 stars. I typically only like to give 5 stars for "world-class" but then the charge/cost would be commensurate. First of all, let me say I'm a loyal, 3+ year customer of Rituals, and as long as I live in Richmond, I will always come here. But, with that said, I plead: Rituals, please please adjust your haircut prices!! I dread the appointment when I am scheduled for both color and cut, because it pains me to pay $55 for a trim. That is all I ever get done, and I truly don't feel good about spending that much when I simply get the dead ends cut off (a process that usually takes less than 10 minutes). I don't know if there could be a separate price for someone who wants simply just a trim, rather than an actual styled haircut, but that way I would feel much better about the value of my money!! read more

i have been a regular customer for about 10 years. the ones who have done my hair have been awesome. i used to live about 15 minutes away. i moved and now live 45 minutes away but it is always worth the drive. anyone who gets hair color done knows it costs a pretty penny. today i am highly upset with the front desk ladies....i don't know her name....blonde curly hair. i had a reminder phone call for my appointment that was scheduled today at 9:45am. ...my reminder call was placed to me on Wednesday April 13th at 1:32pm by a person...not a robocall....i spoke with a person who reminded me of my appointment April 15th at 9:45am.... i had a reminder email.....but somehow when i show up today....i am not in the system.....and my usual person is booked??? instead of scrambling things around....finding someway to fit me in...they let me walk out pissed off...their system glitch...not mine....i told them...if they let me leave...i wouldn't be back....that is 45 minutes of my time...one way....plus gas with gas prices today....and they let a regular 10 year patron leave highly pissed off and the girl didn't care. nice......it just goes to show...it doesn't matter anymore how long you are a regular....doesn't matter....and my hair doesn't get done before easter.....it isn't like i can walk into any other place and get done today what i had scheduled to get done today for easter. read more

I've gotten mani/pedis there and they are so good (and I am so picky about my nails!). Most recently I've had the pleasure of having a spa day there and it was just so good. I visited the salon on 05/03/19 for a haircut and custom color service. I'm not going to state the name of the stylist I saw, because I did enjoy her company. Unfortunately for me, I didn't receive the service I expected. Being a licensed hairdresser myself, I am familiar with expectations vs reality when you show your stylist photos of what you'd like your hair to look like. I understand that in some cases, it can take multiple sessions for hair to become what you envision the end result to be. My stylist was confident (seemingly so) that she could get my hair to where I wanted it to be in the two hour appointment window she scheduled for us three weeks in advance when I first came in for my consultation. Three and a half hours later, my hair was cut way shorter than discussed, and I had (what looks like) an all over "dark brown" color along with some splotchy silver/orange highlights. This was so far from the grey/purple toned hair I was going for. I paid $246 dollars for the service (tipping the stylist in cash), and felt optimistic driving home. I thought: "maybe once I wash it and style it myself the cut will at least be manageable until it grows out." I was wrong. After getting home and putting my hands in it, I realized that not only would this take months to grow to an acceptable length, I'd not have to deal with unevenness as well. I wrote my first email to Rituals on 05/04/19 to express my disappointment, and then, and only then, was introduced to their "policy". Alison Harlow - the salon's "education director" insisted that I come back to the salon so that they were able to evaluate the color of my hair. I had expressed in my email that my hair was too short to fix, and that I did not want to step foot back into the salon given how ugly I feel about the current condition of my hair. I sent multiple photo's of the style/color I received, along with the photo's of the style/color I wanted, and thought that would suffice. Alison continued to insist that I come back in despite my worries and embarrassment; continuing to hide behind a policy that the consumer doesn't get to see until there's an issue. She (Alison) also claimed that she was "confident" that she could "fix" my color...well, my question is: Why would you want to put a pretty color over a haircut you hate? Why would you want to damage your hair further when you're trying to grow it out? The conversation ended with an offer of $60 for the haircut, and no additional compensation for the color service I was completely dissatisfied with. All I can do now is hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else, and wait for my hair to grow back. read more
