Stay away from this unprofessional dog rescue. They are clearly so busy going to farmer's markets to sell dog treats that they can't get back to the folks that want to adopt their dogs. We started the adoption process because we saw a beautiful dog on petfinder.com that we fell head over heels for. We submitted our information, and when I didn't hear anything for a week, I called to leave messages as well as emails. It took two weeks to finally have someone call me. The people that run this place, claim that the lack of professionalism in responding to simple phone calls and emails, is the fact that they run a small operation. Whatever, all I know is that they strung me along for over two weeks, and when they finally called our references (this past Saturday), the puppy that I was looking to adopt had already been adopted 4 days earlier! I found out on facebook, when I was checking out their page to see when they were having a fundraiser, when they had a great picture of somebody with the puppy I thought would be mine. Having just adopted a beautiful Australian Shepherd from this rescue and I can honestly say that the process of adoption from emails and phone calls right up to signing for her this morning went very smoothly. I had the pleasure of meeting both the owners and one of their volunteers and the entire process was a pleasure. I would highly recommend them! read more

I am not even sure how to write this because it has been such an upsetting journey, I found a couple dogs on the www.petfinder.com website that we were interested in and were from Seven Petals, we sent an email, filled out our application and after some time finally got a response, we went to meet some of the dogs and had one in particular that we were interested his name was Max. Less than a week from being home with us we noticed hom much water he was drinking, how little he was eating and he started to vomit, we immediately got him in to see a vet, his kidneys were not working and we had to put him on an iv of antibiotic immediately. For several days following he was violently ill and wouldn't eat. After 7 days of treatment we took him back and now have him on another round of antibiotics and testing of his white blood cell count, which has only gotten slightly better. He is just now (after 4 weeks) finally starting to eat but we still have to be careful with his diet, make sure he is well hydrated and so forth. It was very traumatic for my daughter who is 6 to see him go through all this literally in the first week we got him. If I had to adopt a dog again I would not chose Seven Petals Dog Rescue. I had to edit this post as other things I wrote Seven Petals felt defamed their reputation so they sent me a cease and desist threat from a "legal team" as they put it. They are also now trying to reclaim our dog. read more

We found Seven Petals Dog Rescue to be a great group. We adopted a small mixed breed dog this summer. The adoption process was very smooth and they were quick to respond. We thought it was important that they were checking references to make sure the dogs were going to good owners. I have spent many hours researching animal rescue programs. My rearch ended when I discovered Seven Petals. They responded immediately to my post and immediately answered all phone calls. I was impressed with their knowledge about animals and animal behavior. All questions I asked were answered in detail. Next week we will drive 150 miles to get our rescue furchild. They should have a section for NO stars. I applied for a dog and was told that my application was the only one they had approved in a long time. I went to visit them with one of my own dogs and was told that I could have my pick. I wanted to take one right away, and after giving her my deposit was I couldn't take the dog because she was on antibiotics. She said the neighbor was going to be 'upset' because she really wanted her for therapy training. That's when the games started and i couldn't get a hold of her after leaving several messages. I started making preparations for my new dog. She never called me back, she emailed me and told me that she talked to the board members (yeah right) that the dogs didn't interact enough and seemed to ignore each other and I was denied. I prefer that over fighting! If you want up front, mature dog people who don't play games, go somewhere else. I'm sure the neighbor already had the dog by the time she bothered to email me. She should have called me, not sent an email. I'm always pushing rescue groups on people and I had to really rethink that after this experience. It was humiliating to be told I could have the pick and then give me a lame excuse like that. It was a blessing in disguise as I found a younger, housebroken dog that was in a foster home and was much more advanced as far as manners, training, etc. read more

This dog rescue shelter was my first experience with adopting a dog (first time dog owner) and will be my last experience due to this unprofessional shelter. In addition to the switch-a-roo with what pet was available to adopt in the application process, we wanted a puppy and ended up matched with a 2 1/2 yr old low key mellow lab mix (which was definitely misadvertised). The contract stated training was necessary but they said since this dog had already been through basic obedience training, it would not be necessary. No medical records were given or reports of behavioral issues with the dog were disclosed other than the dog having worms. I later discovered my dog had severe separation anxiety and behavioral issues. After taking him to my boyfriend's house, he attacked the other dog and shed blood.(attacked 3 times total) I contacted a friend that worked with many dogs but not an 'official' paid trainer. I also contacted my veterinarian, worked to meet any suggestions they offered (from getting a crate that my dog broke out of, soft music, giving him his own room to which he trashed repeatedly and jumped out the window (breaking it and the blinds), anxiety meds from the vet that made him even more manic and nervous, a thundershirt that he tried to chew off, etc...) and reported it to the shelter. The strongly advised that their approved trainer be used (which was quite a bit distance from where I lived) and urged me to keep the dog when I asked if I could return the dog. Through this process, I progressively became very ill and experienced severe lung/breathing issues. It was later diagnosed after quite a bit of medical testing that I have asthma as a result of severe allergies to dogs. I was given an epi pen, 2 inhalers, and multiple prescription medication, starting allergy shots in attempt to desensitize me to dogs as well as multiple rounds of immune suppressant meds through the course of treatment for breakthrough asthma attacks. Eventually, I came to a difficult decision, to return my dog, hoping that he would be placed with an owner that is more experienced to handle severe anxiety issues. I contacted the shelter repeatedly and left messages for 2 1/2 weeks before I received a single call back. The person argued with me about never giving up on a dog and that dog training would solve all my issues. They stated the multiple reasons why they couldn't contact me sooner because they only checked their messages once a week roughly and there is only one person that takes care of the dogs and handles the business (even though they have daily postings on Facebook). They proceeded to inform me they were currently treating 10 dogs for a mysterious illness and has stayed up all night often to save the sick/dying dogs in their arms with nobody to help, and have even been bitten by dogs in the line of duty and made accusations that I have not done enough to help my dog. They said they would get back to me with a return date. I waited another week and no call. I called them again and left more messages, becoming quite frustrated and contacted my vet's office again, to continue documenting all the difficulties. The shelter finally returned my call but another argument occurred because they claimed I was not patient enough and the dog had to be returned to only them, that I should never give up a dog for ANY reason. I complained about the level of service I received. It only got worse from there. They said they did not know my dog was a special needs dog, since they had him very few days at the shelter before giving him to me. They finally agreed to meet me at a halfway point to pick up my dog, never asking for my vet records/shot records, etc... and which all shots were up to date along with flea treatment & worm prevention treatment). After they took possession of the dog, the man became extremely belligerent and swore repeatedly, cussing me out for returning a dog and that I didn't deserve being a dog owner or ever being a parent and that they hated 'my kind'. This person got in my face and pointed their finger at me, hurling insult after insult, to which I took a step back in fear and made sure I did not raise my voice or yell because I did not know what this person was capable of doing. This is a very ill-run rescue in my experience/opinion that lacks professionalism on every level and does not work to meet client needs. I was also threatened by this shelter if I spoke about my experience publicly that they would take legal action. In my experience, I cannot recommend this shelter to anybody nor will my friends/family. read more
