We randomly ran into this ice cream parlor while going to the brand new playspace and indoor playground, in the same parking lot, Energy. We ordered a banana split, even though it wasn't on the menu. They had the ingredients, so they made it for us in an açaí bowl. The bananas were all at the bottom. I wanted to ask them to put some on top of the ice cream as well, but didn't. Reminder to self...always inquire. They ran out of caramel, and only had chocolate syrup, not the strawberry, so we just took the chocolate syrup. They had quite a few toppings to choose from, and allowed us to try various flavors. We only tried one each. We also ordered a milkshake asked to be made thin, a glass of milk, which they don't sell in the fridge, but poured some since the kid wanted it, and one of their soda's. We then took one home to go. The young man in there was so sweet, genuine, has excellent customer service, friendly, the kind of guy you want working/running your establishment. You rarely see that in a teen, but they're lucky to have him working there. The games were such a nice touch like: tic tac toe, chess, a few we didn't know. It felt like a country home. One of the neatest ice cream shoppes I've ever been to! This isn't your average ice cream parlor- first off, it's very spacious and has a rustic yet clean crisp vibe at the same time. There are plenty of tables and chairs inside and if the weather's nice, you can grab a seat outside to enjoy your treats. What makes this place unique is that it's serving up not only ice cream but also acai bowls, smoothies and coffee. I learned by exploring the business website that Seven Scoops & Sips was started by Anne & Ryan Olohan and their seven children. The Olahan's story is pretty cool and you can read about it in detail on the site. This family business is big on giving back to the community and also bringing people in the community together. These missions are apparent as soon as you walk in and take a look at the decor, retail gift items, and signage. One example of the magnanimity of this biz is reflected on its website, which states, "with every drink purchased, you help women coffee farmers to earn a fair wage for their work. You also ensure that their families and local communities in Ecuador have access to clean water..." That's just one way this family is really working actively to cultivate change. The employees are really nice, really professional, and really on the ball!! The gal who helped me had a genuine smile that beamed from ear to ear, as well as a true zest for what she was doing- you don't see that very much anymore so it was wonderful to see and experience this! I love the decor and they even have a wooden chess set out at one of the tables. I don't play chess but I appreciate the nod to this centuries old mind sport and the chessboard brings a vintage bookstore and "old world global energy" to the place. I repeat- this is unlike any ice cream parlor I've ever been to...in the best ways possible. The entire store is spic and span and the ice cream was delightful! Even though the scoops were a bit smaller than what I'm used to, the ambience, prices, customer service, quality of the product, and humanitarian missions of this business deserves five stars all around!! Can't wait to go back and try more flavors and more products!! You're supporting something so much bigger than yourself when you support businesses like this!! My boy who lives in the area told me their ice cream is good and for once I can say he was right. Usually he steers me in the wrong direction but he definitely hit the top of the nail with this one. Lots of parking, easy to find. Lots of flavors to choose from. I got the cookies and cream the first time I went and I must say you can get hooked easily. The cookies weren't hard nor were they soft. They were just right. The ice cream it's self wasn't to mushy or fluffy it was perfection . However, Seven Scoops is average for the area and there are definitely better places for ice cream within a 5 miles radius. The decor and vibe of the place is pretty cool and the employees are kind. They offer a variety of items like acai bowls, drinks, and the classic ice cream flavors. The ice cream is decent, but definitely not homemade which to me is far superior. If the flavor you get is not a popular one, it tastes a bit icy. The acai is a frozen puree rather than the fresh fruit and ice. I have had better bowls in the past. Overall, if you need an ice cream fix and you're close, this isn't terrible. But I'd say Lake Hiawatha Dairy is even better than this. But Denville Dairy is the definitely the best in this nearby area. read more

Wow, what a night. My neighbor as battling breast cancer and Seven Scoops hosted a fundraiser for her tonight, donating all proceeds to her treatment. This place was packed long before we arrived and long after we left. A huge thank you to the owners! As for the place itself - I loved it. Very big for an ice cream shop. The ice cream was phenomenal. Wifey had a mint cookies and cream (I think) in a cup and I had a scoop of chocolate peanut butter and a scoop of Cappuccino chocolate crunch (ok, I didn't the correct name) in a waffle cone and it was really good. Prices are very fair, parking is plentiful, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Decor and ice cream were good, but I was given a broken waffle cone on a hot day. Like the young lady stuffed the ice cream too roughly into the cone, breaking it, and absolutely knew she broke it. Instead of fixing it, she hid it under napkins and handed it to me with broken part turned away from me. I didn't realize it was broken until I was in my car and it was melting in the heat through napkins on me. It was a simple thing to fix. Great local ice cream shop! My husband and I took his dad here for father's day and we had a great time (even with COVID). They had plenty of outdoor seating, some with umbrellas for shade. Seven Scoops has a warm, comforting vibe with board games, chess, and spacious seating indoors (for when dine-in is allowed again). The ice cream is creamy and delicious. We had the raspberry sorbet, coffeehouse Oreo, birthday cake, iced coffee, and a special request for affogato. Even though they didn't have affogato on the menu they kindly made one for us using vanilla ice cream and a shot of espresso. I honestly wish I could give this spot 1,000,000 stars! Seven Scoops & Sips is an amazing addition to Montville. It is family-owned and operated! It's clear the Olohan family takes pride in the shop and the community. They have done amazing fundraisers for people in our community and people in need. They also give back to our amazing community by donating proceeds of their sales to great causes. If that alone doesn't make you want to stop by for some ice cream and sips...well, let me tell you how simply delicious their ice cream is! My kids (and husband) devoured it! I will confess, I too, ate some of my kid's ice cream. (I live by the..."if it's not yours, calories don't apply" philosophy) They don't give you a measly scoop...they give you HUGE scoop of deliciousness served with a seven scoop smile! They offer tons of delicious flavors and toppings too! The staff is absolutely wonderful. They were beyond patient as my kids sampled several ice creams and even encouraged more sampling. My kids look forward to going to the shop and I even use it as a weekly reward/treat for being good! Now on to their "sips..." Their cappuccinos are to die for. Not only are they delicious, they are an absolute work of art. Almost too pretty to drink. (I said almost...It was too good not to drink). They can put any picture you want on the foam of the cappuccino. Don't believe me, well just check out my pics ;) Their generous ice cream scoops were extremely fairly priced. I mean $1.07 for a kiddie cone! I don't remember the last time I paid $1 for anything! A cappuccino like that would've cost me three times the amount at chain establishments. Owners and their seven kids care about the community, offer reasonable prices (kiddie cone only $1.07!) and ample sitting area. Happened to drive past the street that 7 Scoops is on and honestly their outdoor aesthetic is what drew me in- not even looking to see how the reviews were. From the outside you'll see it's very clean and same with the inside. It's quite large and open. This is a family business and the children to the owners are working and helping their parents. The children seem to enjoy spending their time at the ice cream shop. When I arrived I had a large group of children ahead of me which I knew it can take a while since they all are screaming out their flavors. However, the father/owner had asked the children to wait so he could take my order first since there was no one else behind me. I thought that was very kind and thoughtful for him to consider me first. I would have waited but it was a clever way to have everyone satisfy. Dessert: It was delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with acai bowls. I didn't get ice cream but they looked delicious. They have unique flavors while still having the originals like Vanilla and Chocolate. Plus they have some of the nicest staff around. We have gone several times and every time they have been consistent.
