Although there's not a lot of options in Buffalo for sailing, there really doesn't need to be with this place around. It's pretty awesome! The Seven Seas Sailing Center offers sailing classes, romantic outings, group sails, boat rentals and good-looking captains for the ladies ;)! My girlfriend and I came here for a Sailing Picnic and Excursion for Two. We had a little bit of trouble finding the place (we had to go to the marina right by Dug's Dive), but the owner inside the little restaurant pointed us to one of the boats and said the captain will greet us there. Greet us he did! His name was Ed and he had a plethora of sailing experience, knowledge and great stories and tidbits about Buffalo. He knew the history of all the buildings around the water front, so our sailing excursion doubled as a Buffalo tour :). And although we needed to bring our own food, you are free to bring a bottle of wine, champagne and some treats to make your boat ride as comfortable as you like it. The experience was really relaxing, my only quip about it was the damn captain talked so much! There were times when I just wanted to enjoy the silence, the beautiful moments with my loved one and he just kept on yappin'! Anyone know a polite way to tell someone to shut it? I mean, I even stopped responding, showing interest and even stopped looking his way. Nope, he had to continue filling in all the silence! Don't get me wrong -- he was entertaining, but it was a Friday afternoon and we wanted some laid back together time after a long week. Despite all that, we spent 2.5hours on the boat and it was wonderful. We enjoyed the beautiful Buffalo views, the birds flocking around and all the friendly boats driving by waving us on in full glory. We learned the history of the abandoned buildings along the water front, a little bit about boats and sailing and maybe a little too much of the captain's life, but that's okay. I would still recommend this place any day. They also offer sailing lessons for around $300 (with guaranteed graduation), which seems like a pretty cool price considering they promise you will learn how to sail. Maybe one day! read more

WARNING: Is there a negative star rating available? I'm all about spreading positive thoughts, but Seven Seas really dropped the ball to say the very least. I called several times over 4 days with no answer. I finally received a text from them asking to text back for my inquiry. From there, they did not respond for 2 days. Their total lack of communication is frustrating. Please learn how to better run a business. I would never treat my customers so poorly. My wife bought this for my birthday out of love. They upset her with their ridiculously poor customer service. Be rude to me all you want if you're willing to accept the consequences, but by upsetting her, they crossed the line. Perfect night all around. Easy to book on line, friendly fast communication . Showed up and greeted by captain chuck and joined by 2 other couples. Capt chuck was very friendly, gave a great mini tour as we departed the outer harbor. The boat was beautiful and we were able to bring our own wine and snacks. Had a lovely 2 hour sail. Capt chuck made it clear if anyone was uncomfortable to let him know, but we all had a wonderful time . We headed out to the lake and the weather cooperated.. no big waves. Able to move around the boat topside, great photos , great time on the lake . I would definitely rebook or even consider a private charter. This would be a great evening fir a special event ! We had a great time with Captain Chris ... Perfect weather !! We got off to a bad start with two cancellations, 1 due to bad thunderstorms and another to a no show! Although we had issues last season booking, Seven Seas graciously honored last year's groupon. We had six of us, 4 adults and 2 kids. We all had a blast !! Under Captain Chris' watch, the kids were given a short stint at the helm, which they loved. Captain suggested they jump in the river for a swim, while he was setting up the sails .... Some friends and I purchased a Groupon for 2 hours on a sail cruise. Our Captain and "First Mate", his daughter were both entertaining and fantastic. We got a little lesson in how the boat works and the ways of the water. Our 3 hour sail took us through the harbor to directly in front of the Buffalo skyline, a view most of us have never seen.. The sun setting on the building made everything glow, it was incredible. Other than some spilled red wine (my fault), it was an awesome experience and I'd highly recommend Seven Seas to anyone. read more

We had a great cruise on 7/10/15. Our Captain was extremely competent, having taught sailing for many years, and he was very friendly. I liked the fact that there was only one other couple, so it felt like a private cruise. We had a great cruise. Our Captain was pleasant and answered all of our questions without being too chatty. It ended up just being my husband, myself and the captain for the 2 hours. It was one on the best days to be out on the Lake. My husband had never been on a small sail boat before and this was a birthday excursion for him. He truly enjoyed himself. Last Sunday my wife and I went sailing on a sail boat with Seven Seas Sailing company and Chris as our skipper. It was a very relaxing and enjoable experience to remember. Chris introduced us to a new world and etiquete of sailing. The good weather and the sun helped make our trip the best possible. Two hours we spent sailing in the vascinity of Buffalo marina turned out to be the most relaxing afternoon we had in a while. The waves of the lake and the wind make sailing such a serene experience. Chris was an absolutely perfect host and a guide. He made sure we knew what to do if unexpected was to happen, and was always aware of us, passengers, as well as other boats in our surroundings. He instilled confidence and calm in us. We knew we were in safe hands. Since it was a hot day, we even took a swim in the lake, and were trailing behind the boat holding on the ropes. After, I lounged on the front of the boat for a while taking in the sun. That was the best part. Thank you to Chris and our copassangers Seth and Natalia from Rhode Island. Didn't get off to a great start, as the confirmation email had told us to expect a call from our captain, who would let us know where to meet him. Half an hour before we hadn't heard anything so I called him up and he tells me we're in the wrong place, and thought the meeting location had already been sorted out. So, we had to quickly taxi over to the right place, which was irritating. But, the sail itself was lovely. The weather was perfect and the views were interesting. We sat out the front on the bow and just relaxed in the sun for 2 hours. Great fun and relaxing. read more

You'd be better off booking a tour with Gilligan. We were quite excited to take a sailing cruise and booked the tour. We packed up a nice little picnic and drove the 45 minutes to the Small Boat Harbor. Once there we find out they overbooked the tour so we get to drive back home for nothing. After several emails and phone calls we finally get a response and we rebook the tour. Unfortunately that day was thunderstorms and a small craft warning. Again several emails, texts and phone calls go unanswered. After that we certainly didn't feel safe sailing with this clown operation and we ended up having to go through our credit card company to get a refund. Expect headaches, no responses and incompetence from top to bottom with this group. read more

Tried contacting company numerous times during the week by phone, text( owner states to leave text) and email to see if we should reschedule. No response. Finally got through to owner after days of trying he said no don't reschedule. Best sailing school in Buffalo. US coast guard certified captains with 'old salt' attitudes guide you through maritime law and safety with hands on/hands off combination. Allow you to make mistakes, and if safe, allow you to correct your actions. Take as much time as you need to complete the course. Once completed you remain a student and can continue learning as much as you want. For a couple of years I've enjoyed sailing unlimited in the basic keelboat fleet. Shockingly affordable way to enjoy Buffalo's greatest natural resource. I occasionally volunteer on Wednesdays, amazed at how much you can learn simply by scrubbing decks. Planning on taking the advanced course this year (finally). Looking forward to another great season. read more

I took sailing lessons with this group. The lessons were marketed as 2 hour lessons, but they put 6-9 people in the boat. Each person only gets to man the helm for about 15 minutes. They pressure you to "graduate" before you are ready, even though they say that you can get as many lessons as you need. The owner drinks way too much while working, at one occasion he flipped out and spouted slurs. The Friday night sails are unorganized and overbooked, many families that signed up together were separated into different boats. read more

The weather was perfect, Captain Skip (both times AND he actually remembered us!) is great, down to earth, made us feel very welcome and went above and beyond. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! Initially, it was difficult to make contact to make reservations. I would call, get told to email, but then it wouldn't get an answer, I'd call again - you get the idea. But once plans were in place it went beautifully. We had a gorgeous evening, and a a great 2 hour sail and picnic. It was just my husband and myself so it was just what we wanted - time to be together enjoying a new experience. Skip, the captain's talking was just the right amount of talking to you about sailing etc. and giving us time to just enjoy the sound of the waves and the peaceful surroundings. He was very helpful getting in and out of the boat, which was an issue for me, just a very laid back guy, he made it a lot of fun. It was a gift for my husband who has always been interested in sailing; after having such a good time, he's thinking of taking lessons at their sailing school. read more

Never again will I go through such an AWFUL experience with this "business". Cancelled our three bookings, well more like bailed, didn't even tell us because they FORGOT to write down our appointment. Ha. What a joke! First time they tried putting us on a boat with 4 elderly people, my boyfriend and I were dumbfounded since the original price of this couples cruise was 270!!! Are you kidding me?? Good thing I said something because they then told me that our captain went home sick so they assumed we would be okay with going on a two hour sail with strangers basically like chaperones for us. Ridiculous. After two other attempts, finally we did get a cruise from what seemed like a nasty personal sailboat from the owner's brother. Had his awkward teenage daughter on board with us who started talking about some stupid t pain concert she went to and got contact high from the people around her. Literally the worst experience I have ever gone through. You would have to pay me to go through it again. And to think they advertise this sailing cruise as a perfect birthday, anniversary, or proposal is a joke. Awful awful awful. Bill is the guy who kept forgetting our bookings. read more
