I went here about three years back and looking through my journey from boarding school to boarding…read moreschool, Aspen was one of my favorite places to be. Sure it's just a temporary home while they try to figure out where the best place to send you is, but the staff were all super kind and caring. I don't think there was one time when one of the staff wouldn't sit and join us in a game of Monopoly or try to help us out when we needed it. Don't get me wrong, they're not total push overs and the rules are enforced here but Aspen really worked with me and tried to make my stay seem less torturous compared to where I had been before. I remember my counselor, Lexi, she was amazing and I could not have felt anymore comfortable when talking to her, and I was able to send letters frequently between my parents and I. I'm not all for sending your child to boarding schools (it is traumatizing, but I also understand that sometimes it is necessary if the parent does not have the right tools to help their child anymore), but if you don't know what to do or what steps to take I would certainly recommend Aspen as a temporary placement. Your child will be confused and probably hurt but they will be talked through everything with the counselor, treated WELL by the staff, given privileges to play in the gym and outside, given opportunities to earn more games or playtime, and my main thing is that your child will just be treated well. It's hard for a kid to be sent away and Aspen makes them feel welcome. And I guess a huge point is that my counselor was able to find a terrific school to send me to that fit my parents budget. Ok! I think I've written enough, if you have any questions feel free to message me(:

My daughter lived here for a year after having been in and out of multiple psych facilities the…read moreentire year prior. It was the only place that actually helped us. Tiffany was our family counselor and she was absolutely amazing. Experienced, savvy, patient. We really needed that. The weekly virtual parent groups weren't just about commiserating, like so many other facilities who don't quite know how to help parents. They were informative and helpful, led by Jenn who is also wonderful. Elevations has a strong focus on the entire family, not just the kid and that's really the key. We aren't sending our kids away because they are "bad", the whole family system needs a reset and it is just as much the parents' responsibility to grow and change as it is our kids. Any parent who thinks their kid's behavior is solely their doing and problem is a big part of the problem. The parent retreats were WONDERFUL! I participated in every one of them. It's such a difficult decision to put your child in treatment and it is not an easy thing to go through. However, I want anyone reading this to know that there is hope on the other side of you ALL put in the work and if you have the right help. We found Elevations through an educational consultant, which I HIGHLY recommend getting. As parents, we're navigating blindly in a crisis state and need help. If you've found Elevations though, lucky you! This is a good place. I spoke to many other parents going through the program who'd wished they'd found this place first. Thank you, Elevations.

20 years later and I am still unpacking the trauma this place caused. While they have had a rebrand…read moresince I was imprisoned there, it is still the same. The rule book has been shared and it is essentially the same as the copy I held onto. Treatment, especially for minors, should not cause more harm and trauma. One of my issues going into treatment was being a pushover. It was getting me into a lot of trouble and was quickly becoming a danger to my safety and well being. I absolutely needed treatment and help. My therapist at Island View decided in order to help me find my voice the approach he used was to bully me. Not in a role playing exercise way. Just randomly in the middle of a therapy session he would insult my appearance. He told me in my final therapy session before graduation that this was his goal. To say mean things so I would learn to stick up for myself. When is it ever acceptable for a therapist to manipulate a patient? Especially when that patient is a minor? If you are looking to find help for your child because they are struggling, I beg you to avoid this place and all of the RTCs like it. They are so very harmful. Your child deserves respect, care, and actual treatment! This was my own experience with the Island View/elevations, then there are the numerous law suits regarding physical abuse. I'm one of the lucky ones whose abuse was only psychological and not physical or sexual. My heart goes out to those whose experience was physical. It is a horrible place and I would give it zero stars if I could. Your teen deserves better!
