The apple flavor whiskey was not good. Too syrupy and the peach flavor is insanely sweet; may be good in a mixed drink. The sweet potato was good. I could sip that easily. For food I had deviled eggs and brisket nachos. The deviled eggs weren't that good. The nachos tasted good and a nice portion. Though it's not bad, it also wasn't good. Glad I tried it off my list, but won't be back.

From blackberry, to peach, to honey.... they are all crafted magnificently. For our visit, we settled on whiskey + coffee. I love how she asked what level of sweetness we preferred and then brought out our favorite creamer to add in the coffee. The coffee + cream + whipped topping was perfect to sit outside on a Fall evening and sip. After packaging our to go bottles, we asked a few more questions to the distiller himself and he shared that they make about 2 batches a month,sometimes 3. Even though it wasn't a tour, his sharing helped us understand the process and how lucky we were to find this gem. Even if you don't drink whiskey, go and enjoy the scenery. Plus you have access to the other places in The Plant including a Mexican place across the way that looks tremendous. I stayed in Fair Game, enjoying a local draft beer and then the lovely bartender Desiree mixed a Fair Game Collins for me. She walked us through their menu with the kind of confidence that makes you trust every recommendation, and every drink she made had that extra flourish that tells you she actually loves the work. It's rare to find someone who can make you laugh, teach you something, and hand you a drink that's better than what you expected all in the same moment, but she does it effortlessly. Somewhere between the rum and the vodka, we learned that they're gearing up for a big move to Wilson, expanding from two stills to a dozen, which is wild and honestly well deserved because the quality here is already top-tier and the idea of them scaling up that much is exciting. You can feel the ambition from the crew here, the sense that they're on the cusp of something bigger, and it made every sip feel like you're getting in on a story that's about to blow up. We had fun flipping through their amazing cocktail book collection on the shelf too. The bartenders were very friendly and offered us focaccia from Ninth Street Bakery to pair with our drinks for free, which was such a thoughtful and tasty addition. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and are so happy to see a micro-distillery thriving in the heart of Durham. Can't wait to return for an official tour and to sample more of their spirits!

You get two generous pours of both liquors, gin and moonshine, and a short tour of their facility (it is a very small space). On the tour we learned that pine top is an old nickname for moonshine which was interesting. Pinetop shirts are available to purchase and so are home-aging kits (this includes an oak barrel and a bottle of their moonshine which is the perfect gift idea).

This is the first local craft distillery inside the beltline in the Loading Dock in Raleigh (only 5 minutes from downtown)! It's a locally owned distillery that uses all locally sourced products from local farmers to spice up their distillation process. The tour is awesome too because Tom knows so much about the process & you can tell he's passionate about bringing these craft liquors to Raleigh. Also, I loved the little tastes at the end. Surprisingly I'm now a huge gin fan - thanks Pinetop! Admittedly I don't know as much about distilling moonshine or gins, but they've got it down pat! The gin doesn't have that strong juniper taste, and it's so smooth! The moonshine was great too, not too strong either... loved it. What's even cooler: they're making holiday bourbon barrels that you can age your gin/moonshine to impart the oak & sweetness into the booze to turn it into a bourbon.... who doesn't love a little DIY bourbon project?! Such a great gift for people!! I'm stoked to try it out :) Love their tshirts too! All in all, Pinetop Distillery makes some great products & their brewery is definitely worth checking out... you'll learn a little, taste a bit, and buy up to 5 bottles to take with you (without having to go to the ABC store)!!!

The chai-biscus cocktail was really good and not too sweet. This would be a great casual hang out spot to change it up from a brewery and had plenty of seating. All the spirits are made in house and are super high quality. We have bought them before to give as gifts and everyone loved them. They even have a tasting room in the back where you can try and talk to the distiller about their spirits. We will definitely be back!
