The folks who run Seven Oaks are working hard to provide a good experience for visitors. I might suggest they consider renovating the dorms as they are quite old and dated. Some additional outdoor lighting, especially along the sidewalks, would be good, as well as continuing the sidewalk all the way around the central area so folks don't have to walk in the grass. Lastly, having a central bell on the deck of the meditation hall would be better than retreatants having to carry a small bell all over, ringing it. The grounds are beautiful. Don't miss a walk to the pond and meditating in the forest refuge sanctuary. That was a lovely experience. read more

This retreat center gives a cottage, country, rural feeling. We enjoyed our stay at the seven oaks retreat. The home is comfortable and big for families to come and relax. It's not too far from the city or Shenandoah, about 40 minutes from each. There is a nice trail that leads to a river bank. The only alarming thing is that they don't provide a key or a lock system so the the home is unlocked when you leave, from our experience, as the host never called back to clarify or provide a solution for this issue. read more

I have attended a few workshops at Sevenoaks and always come away refreshed, recharged and inspired. The grounds are magical with beautiful views, trails, flora and fauna. At night the stars are so clear, bright, and awe-inspiring. The staff that run the place always go above and beyond and are extremely open-hearted and caring. The food was great for my workshops, some of it grown in a nearby organic edible garden. I can't recommend this place enough for any kind of retreat or workshop that would benefit from peace and quiet, majestic surroundings, and dedicated support. read more

Seven Oaks Retreat did not disappoint. It was the most calming peaceful places I have ever been. In town for our son's graduation from UVA Law, we stayed in the Oak House with 10 other family members. It was such a wonderful experience to be altogether making and having breakfast, drinking coffee outside in the quiet morning air while watching the deer wander right past close enough to almost touch was remarkable. We all had such a marvelous time; everyone is still talking about it! It was close enough to the college to make getting to the ceremonies easy, but far enough to still have that feeling of "getting away." I wholeheartedly recommend Seven Oaks if you will be staying in the Charlottesville area. Paul, Kim and Gretchen are wonderful, helpful and so welcoming you will never want to leave.
