We've arrived at Misty Mountain Resort after a pleasant drive northwest through Virginia's hill country to attend Carol's ski club camping event. Our level backin site 56 has shore power, water hookup along with a peaceful sloping front lawn which the dogs are enjoying. Delightful Virginia mountain campground. Our host were friendly and kind plus their attendant guided us to our site. Definitely recommended. read more

The camp store staff and the gentleman who showed us to our site were very kind and helpful. The store had plenty of stock and the wood bundles were plentiful and well-packaged. We enjoyed the live music in the evenings, as well. Site 86 was pretty awful. There is a large tree approximately 3 feet inside the site border, making it impossible not to back in at a sharp angle to be able to access the FHU. Unfortunately, this also sets your front door and steps right at the next campsite's sewer hose. One misstep and you would faceplant on their hose. This makes in impossible to sit outside under the awning. The picnic table and fire ring are behind the site, sloping steeply down a muddy hill. The water pressure was almost non-existent. So, we decided to take advantage of the bath house directly across from our site. Not a good idea, as the water backed ip in the shower and left standing water full of bugs and whatever other nastiness was in the drain. There seem to be many full time campers there. Very nice people. Kind and friendly. However, the site themselves were pretty trashy considering the daily rate for these sites. One had a toilet plunger that appeared to have been flung onto the site deck. Others had piles of random items and tarps everywhere. Again, cool people but it's ridiculous to charge the rate this place does and expect to look at other people's pile of junk. We camp often in Virginia, but won't be going back to this place. Sad, because the place has good potential and is conveniently located to lots of places, but...ick. read more

If you stay at the campground on the hill be aware the water doesn't always work and is intermittent. People mid shower no water. Trying to flush tank is impossible. Others staying say they are aware of the issue, our neighbors were warned at check in. It is not on their website. If I had known I would not have booked. They get plenty of visitors regardless and it's likely an expensive fix so they ignore it. Sad. read more

This is our favorite campground. There are so many things to see and visit within a short drive. A nightly bonfire is cool, sometimes there is a band that plays outdoors and the playground is well kept. The campsites are well kept, and the only time we had a problem, the maintenance person was there within minutes and fixed the problem. The staff has always been courteous and helpful with advice and directions. There are several wineries in the area and a short drive to Skyline Drive and beautiful overlooks. JD Sharp read more

3.5. . Not bad at all. - Just off 250 which is just off 64. Great location just West of Charlottesville. Easy check in with nice people there as well. Camp store was pretty cool. I have to keep my blinders on on there before I start buying things I don't need. Inside the check in with the store is also a nice barroom. Some pool tables, an eatery and a nice size bar, it looked like to me. I walked in and heard Johnny paycheck playing I just SMH. oh lord yep. Here we are. :) Y'all grew up with it too come on now. Anyway, went to T1 and set up my one man tent. Took mere minutes. Its small. Afterward I yelped for food. Yelp never let's me down. Mexican restaurant 5 miles away?? Hell yeah! I went. I devoured. I came back to the campground. Slept in my car awhile with the doors open. Too hot. Just so hot. After that 4 hour hike and Mexican food i slept like a baby. Once it got dark, I got in the tent and slept but I was a sweaty mess. Luckily their showers are personalized and work great!! Cooled off nicely. No screaming kids. Trust me no fire pit. We were already roasting!! Lastly its not their fault I guess but people leave trash in the pond and on the hiking path. Also some brush near the pond and trail should be cut back. The bridge and the pond deck are in need of repairs. I know times are hard and people not working these days. This seems like hard upkeep job as well so my 3.5 stars is a good review. You'll like it. If you're looking for a place to unload your feral, loud children, this is it! Straight from an employee, this campground is wide open. There are no quiet hours like every other campground in the area. If you're looking for a quiet get-away, this camp ground is not for you. At 10:30 PM, I politely asked the herd of children to stop screaming on the jump pad (located right behind my site). One asked if I wanted to fight... and you guessed it... no supervision in sight. If you read this and still want to visit, I suggest ordering a size up on your site. My 5th wheel is 31.5 feet, and I booked a 34 foot spot... and it was a very tight fit. The only positive is the office staff are pleasant and it's dog friendly. The noise and lack of respect for all campers is enough for me to steer clear of this place going forward. read more

Perfect camping experience. We had a pull thru site for 3 nights and then move to a back in site for one night. Very thankful they accommodated our visit to our nephew who lives in the area. Full hookup at both sites. Clean, well maintained campground. Picturesque setting with creek and fishing pond. The kids all loved the Jumping pillow. Nice playground. Lots of walking areas. We stayed here for 2 nights after our original more primitive camping plans were ruined by the weather. I found MM online and we created a back country site reservation ($35 a night). The check in was easy and the store that is located on premises has many things you may need that were forgotten. Alternatively, a gorgeous market is located just down the road for the harder to find items. The biggest con was sadly the toilets that were available to backcountry sites. USED toilet paper was piling up on the sides of the toilet, wasps were flying in and out, and the door barely locked. read more

**HORRID*** Went to this campground for Memorial Day weekend with family friends with little kids & had a horrible experience. Stayed two nights. Both nights we were kept up with loud music throughout the park & especially on the last night a group of RV'ers were playing music until 4:00 am!! They were belligerent & aggressive when asked repeatedly to observe quiet hours. We were afraid as they were drunk and confrontational. The campground has NO security, no one to call after hours and in the morning when we told the staff our experience they couldn't have cared less. The bathhouses were out of TP and hand paper towels (during COVID!?!) the entire weekend and always dirty. We will never go back and suggest you seriously think hard before booking this campground. It is absolutely not suitable for families wanting a friendly, pleasant and safe campground. read more

Misty Mountain campground was filled with very friendly people. Saturday night we were treated to a free chicken dinner, chicken, potato salad, beans and a roll. Delicious. We had a great time sitting on the lawn and listening to live music. The grounds are neat and clean. We loved the dog park! It was large and well maintained. The only down side was the sites are very close together. We have a 40' fifth wheel with slides on both sides but we fit without any issues but it was tight. You are only supposed to have one vehicle on site, next door had two and two dogs not on leashes. There are additional parking spots at the entrance. We would stay there again hoping to get one of the larger spots. read more

Beautiful resort with clean facilities and plenty to do. There are a lot of tourist spots nearby too such as orchards and wineries. Really kid friendly with activities such as a game room, a clubhouse, a pool, a bounce pad, and fishing. My family has been going here for 8 years on a 4 year streak. They have cabins, tent sites, and RV hookups for all kinds of camping. The tent sites have clean water and so do the cabins. Not what I expected for the $$$. We were in spot 67 and luckily I had over 6" of shoring with me so I could level enough to let slide out. Looking around at the other site on the top area I would have to say more than 50% need several inches of timber to get level of course if you have automatic leveling you should be ok. They gave away the site we had reserved 6 months ago(!!!) to a "Long-term resident". They could have emailed us about the change and given us the choice to stay and choose a new site, or refund our down payment and we'd go elsewhere. Instead they wait until we get here and put us in a leftover site. In the middle of the fishbowl(!!!) instead of having a private forested view. Didn't even offer a discount for the disappointment. Deceptive website led to a disappointing visit. Let's start with the positive: the shared amenities were family-friendly and made the trip enjoyable. Bounce pad that was covered and had nearby picnic tables for parents, playground (one in the sun and one shaded with trees) had shaded seating too. Splashing creek by the tent camping sites was great for preschool-age kids. Property overall was clean. Pool was clean and seating/landscaping was nice, although we had to ask the office to open the pool at 1045am when the signs said it was open at 10. Unfortunately the cabin we stayed in was very different from what is pictured online, and this difference meant we could only manage to tolerate one night. Cabin 12 does not have a washer/dryer as pictured. We have small kids who make messes and have accidents, and I packed thinking I could wash items as needed. It also doesn't have a rocking chair. Might not be a big deal to some but when you are traveling with a baby and a broken arm, that rocking chair would have been nice at midnight. Cabin 12 claims to sleep 4 but 2 is more realistic. There is a queen bed in the bedroom, but the full futon in the living area has a giant gap in the padding and springs that come out and poke you all night if you lay the futon flat, so it's best to not rely on the futon for any sleep. There is also very little in the way of storage space for clothing or towels. 2 towel hooks for the entire cabin, and no drawers or closet in the bedroom. The light fixture in the bedroom ceiling had dead bugs in it. The porch lights outside flickered on and off like a strobe light. If you are epileptic, cabin 12 is not the one for you. Temperature was another issue. The only way to have a/c reach the bedroom was to keep the bedroom door open, but the bedroom door is also the bathroom door, as the bathroom has 2 doors and is in between the bedroom and living area. So plan on zero privacy if you need to use the bathroom. My husband was sweating while my baby was freezing in the living area. No one got any sleep, and we debated leaving the first night when we were all up at midnight with small kids and exhausted. Ended up driving home to sleep the second night and just came back for the bounce pad and pool the next day. The other problem was the smell. Think stale cigarettes but attempted to cover by floral Fabuloso cleaning chemicals. The scent of this cabin hits you when you walk in the door, and opening up the windows at night didn't make a difference. I've had to wash everything that came home from the cabin- even clean stuff- just to get that smell gone. It gave me a huge headache, and I'm generally not bothered by smells. I reached out to the campgrounds directly about these issues but after 48 hours and no email reply decided to leave an honest review about this experience. Hoping no one else has to have their vacation cut short because of the misleading photos online or strong chemical smells. This property has so much potential and wonderful natural features, but the customer service is holding this business back. Finally, we are a year and a half into a pandemic. It would be courteous to follow CDC guidelines during the Delta variant spike happening right now and have office staff wear a mask at any point. 0/3 employees wore a mask in the office. For a family-friendly business, considering that all kids under 12 don't have access to a vaccine, it would be kind if adults could help protect the kids who are visiting this place. Hoping that this business can make the cabins cleaner and more comfortable, and update their website so that customers get what they think they are buying. Would love to return again and give this place another chance, but with unmasked employees and kids who aren't old enough to get vaccinated yet this will have to wait awhile. read more

This is a good campground if pseudo-camping is what your looking for. The campground is nice and clean, but tents are packed in like sardines, there are lights everywhere so it never feels like you're in the wilderness, and quiet hours are not enforced. We camped for two nights and there were an unusual amount of teenagers camping who were very loud and rambunctious. There were a group of teenage girls next to us and several groups of boys that would ride around on golf carts with music playing loudly. The kids were having fun, but it continued pretty late into the night and we just wanted to sit by the fire and relax without all the noise. Also, the staff were nice, but ineffective. We asked to move sites, but they said no (even though the two sites next to us weren't being used when we checked in). Also, the group assigned to the site next to us decided they didn't want to set up camp there so they went to another site and were not told that they had to go back to their assigned site. I guess that's what we get for being polite and asking. At one point, we tried to buy ice and paper towels. They couldn't find paper towels after 15 minutes of looking then said that they wouldn't let us use our debit card for ice so we had to go back to the camp site to get cash for the ice. It really just wasn't a good experience for us. We live in the city so we like our camping to be a quiet, relaxing weekend out in the country. This did not fit the bill at all. read more

We booked two nights at this campsite from which to explore the Charlottesville area a bit before heading into Shenandoah National Park. At less than half an hour outside of C'Ville, it's convenient in that respect. I do not think this campground caters for people like my husband and I. We had come with a tent, and it seems to be mostly geared to RV campers. If you have an RV, you may enjoy this place a lot more than we did. We had booked a spot in their "primitive tent site" area, which is to say no water and electric hook ups. The sites are pretty close together, and there is no separation with any kind of vegetation, so if you're unlucky, your neighbor's tent could be mere feet from yours, which is a little more intimate than I like to be, when all that separates you is some nylon and 8 feet of open space. The bathroom buildings were on either far side of the camp ground, near the RV sites that would generally not need bathroom facilities, and the tent sites were in the middle. Going to the bathroom was a 10 minute walk in either direction, each way. I may have been spoiled from my years camping in Europe as a kid, but every camp site I've been to has had an ablution block and amenities to wash dishes. No such luck here. The bathrooms were kept clean and the camp ground too. The staff at the camp store was friendly and helpful. The noise restrictions and quiet time weren't enforced, as another reviewer pointed out. We didn't really appreciate having to listen to people's country music playing rather loudly from their RV site, usually draped with wads of Christmas lights. I know the golf carts were rented out to make it easier to go up and down the steep hill to the back portion of the camp site, but hearing people motoring up and down the hill because it was a fun thing to do because they were bored or something, got a bit old. They have quite a few amenities if you have kids, a pool and game hall and some other outdoor games, and that may appeal to you. If you prefer going camping because of being out and enjoying a little quiet and nature and such, it's better to just drive into Shenandoah and stay at a site there. Our stay at a campsite there was much more to our liking. read more

A generally adequate facility hampered by enough problems to make me not want to go back. Nice, but smallish, pool, but half the beach chairs around were covered in red ants and couldn't be used. Back at our camper, the flies were a horrible, persistent part of our 3-day stay. In our cabin, the main futon bed was saggy in the middle (looking left to right) with a bump in the middle from front to back. My wife and I slept on the individual bunk beds instead. The door to the cabin wasn't hung properly which resulted in us having to slam the door shut or kick it open. There were no screens in the cabin windows so we were forced to used the air conditioner, which was noisy and inadequate. Water pressure in showers was incredibly low. They put our camper near the road which was busy and noisy. The bathroom closest to the pool was a small, single-person room with a lock that doesn't work. My nephew was on the toilet when another kid walked in. Neither bad nor good, this place is almost all large RV's and campers. If you're a pop-up camper, you'll feel like "camper trash" here. Some of the RV'ers looked like regulars as many had uniform flags hanging out in front of their station, indicating some sort of RV community of retired people. The employees were friendly and location is great. "Good enough" if you're in a pinch but otherwise I'd avoid it. Kids would probably like this place. read more

Let me start off my saying that I did an extended stint at the Misty Mountain (nearly a year in an RV trailer). Looking back, it was some of the funnest times my family ever had. The campground has lots for the kids and adults alike. We experienced 4th of July fireworks put on by Mike (the owner), hay rides and pumpkin picking for the kids, music festivals, Jeep weekends, pond fishing, pool swimming, karaoke, etc. They have pool tables, a game room, a volley ball court, jump pad, clean showers and cabins, and a decent dog run. We've RV'd around the country and this is by far my favorite campground. Family owned and very personable. Like most of my friends, Mike is often drunk, but that makes him pretty laid back as long as your not tearing up his campground or being an obnoxious douche bag. Long or short term, I would recommend this campground to anyone wanting a nice RV or tent site with amenities close to the Blue Ridge parkway. read more

We spent two nights here and the weather was perfect. Our site was on the upper section of the campground. It was shady, with lots of tree cover. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. We will definitely be back for a longer stay. read more

We rented the Bunkhouse for my Bachelorette Party and it was PHENOMENAL. It had excellent amenities, very clean and in a perfect location. Everyone raved about how cool it was and how much they wanted to use it for their events. We also use their main room for parties. It's a great space for any event. Amazing. We rented cabin 2. The bunk bed was perfect for my son and shih tzu. The futon is a queen and very comfortable. Well constructed, we didn't hear any outside noise. Very secluded feeling. We couldn't see anyone from our campfire and one other cabin in view. Bathhouses a bit far but quite nice. Lots of events. My son loved the playground, the jumping pillow, the bonfire, the trick or treating. We went apple picking at Carters. Tons of great wineries within 10 minutes. Nice store too. Though we didn't buy anything there were several items I thought about but need some kids shirts. Probably more in summer. We will definitely come back! read more

We stayed 5 days in our motorhome and absolutely loved our time there. The campground is beautiful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the campground is close to Charlottesville, many breweries and wineries, Monticello, and local sights and attractions. In addition to being a beautiful campground, the wifi and cable are strong and there are many activities to keep kids entertained. We travel the country and our stay at Misty Mountain was fun, relaxing and very satisfying. read more

Campground facilities are nice with dog park and lots of kids activities. Big problem was that we lost water twice for many hours without warning, right before we started packing upeaming we couldn't wash dishes, flush tanks, or take showers. We were allowed a late check-out to wait for the water to come back on which was a nice gesture. read more

I live near by in Charlottesville. My family is here from out of town to visit me on vacation. I recommended Misty Mountain Camp Resort. My son got charged for 2 nights, when he only stayed for one. The campsite offered cable. My son complained that the cable was not working at his site. They told him it does not work when it rains.......really? To make it even worse , they have soft drink machines that take you money but don't give you the merchandise. I would recommend one of the other campsites in the area. Other camp grounds should take a tour of Misty Mountain to see what their location could be like. My family and I had a wonderful time at Misty Mountain, our four year old is still talking about how much fun he had. The grounds are well maintained and up to date. Wow, what a cool place! We usually go to Luray or Natural Bridge, but coming from Richmond we wanted a quick weekend get away without the long drive. We had stayed here before many years ago, back when we were towing an RV. We decided on getting a pet friendly cabin, stayed in #14... and WOW! What a view!!! Cabin #14 was located at the end of the road basically on the edge of a cliff overlooking the lower park, river and gorgeous views of the mountains. The bathhouse was quite a hike up the road, but with a golf cart it was a quick little 1 minute ride. Bathroom was a little chilly, especially when the door kept being opened... but it's to be expected during the cold days and nights. Staff was very kind and attentive, feels very homey and cozy at this campground. The golf cart (#5) had sketchy brakes to say the least, but hey it made for an interesting trip down the mountain, lol. Great place! Will be back again, and hopefully soon!! read more

Misty Mountain is the nearest Campground to Charlottesville, Va. The campground itself is beautiful and can be very peaceful and serene if you get the right spot. I had an end pull through location near the stream. While the campground does do a few seasonal and monthly trade it is very much geared towards shorter stays. I stayed here for a little over a week. Campsites vary in size. They are all fairly close together. Size wise I would say it is far closer to a KOA than a wilderness stay. I'm not a, "family", person so tended to feel the, "family", emphasis rather grating. I would definitely recommend. read more

Camped here in a tent for 1 night and had a great time! They had free dinner and dessert on Saturday night, and live music for 3 straight hours, and free doughnuts Sunday morning. Nice playground and giant bouncing pillow for our son. The bathrooms were a bit of a hike from our tent site, but they were the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen! This campground seems to cater more to rv'ers, and only has a handful of tent sites. Our site was perfect, we were able to set up our tent about 20 ft. away from a beautiful babbling brook. That might freak some people out, hearing the water making water noises all night, but we loved it. The stream is also full of big fish, which is pretty cool to look at. Don't go here if you are looking for privacy or a backcountry getaway. Go here if you are looking for a kid friendly campground with amenities for a decent price! read more

So I read all the reviews and I do not disagree, it is a really nice family campground (with the emphasis on 'family'). They have loads of stuff for the kids and that's great. Stayed this past weekend and they even chipped in and sponsored a chicken dinner for the whole campground, I think that's generous., Now the downside...... Don't even think you're going to get a good space. They don't have any (unless maybe you get by the stream). The campers are on top of each other, and if you get the fence (#23) you get to listen to melodious car traffic all night. We didn't complain because we were 'last minute campers' this weekend and didn't expect the best spot and we weren't disappointed. The 'lake' was kind of dirty looking and I don't think any self respecting fish would live there. Even the upper pasture area was overcrowded. So, nice people, great place for kids to have fun, clean but if you're going for real R&R, I don't think this is the place..... read more

This place is a joke. They showed online that the pool was open and that all other amenities were closed for the weekend. However, when we got there, there were 15 to 20 people in the pool and when we inquired about the access to the pool they said it was closed to all except the owners family. They said the only place we could swim was in the creek by the camping spots. While swimming there we saw two water moccasins in the creek. It is unacceptable to not allow the paying patrons in the pool and allow the owners family in the pool by themselves. When I inquired about receiving a discount on the cabin they stated I would have to contact the owner and refused to give me his information. By far the worst customer service and worst amenities. The cabins also were infested with stink bugs and wasps. We will never be returning and recommend nobody ever use a place that doesn't care about the people paying to be here. read more
