I stopped by on a Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. The deli is located right at the front of the store, making it easy to find. They were running two back-to-school sandwich specials with one for $10.99 and another for $16.99. Personally, almost $17-$20 for a sandwich didn't really feel like much of a special. The service was definitely the highlight of my visit. The cashier was incredibly friendly, offered great recommendations, and the woman working behind the deli counter was just as welcoming. I ordered the: *Jerk Turkey Sandwich: you can choose from white, wheat, sourdough, a roll, or an onion roll for an additional $3. I went with white bread. I was expecting more of a deli-style hoagie or Subway-style sandwich, but it ended up being served on two slices of sandwich bread. It tasted good, but it honestly reminded me of something I could easily make at home. There just wasn't much of a wow factor. The sandwich came with pickle spears and your choice of macaroni salad, potato salad, or another deli side. The side portion was fairly small, a couple of bites worth, but the macaroni salad was great. My total came to nearly $15, which felt pretty expensive for a sandwich on sliced bread and a small side. While I really appreciated the friendly service and enjoyed the food, I didn't think it offered enough value for the price. Solid sandwiches. I really enjoyed the La Mesa Trolley while my boyfriend really enjoyed the Jersey Shore. Additionally, I ordered the Godfather sandwich for later (I like to think ahead). It was also really good. The potato salad that came with the sandwich was delicious as well. Each sandwich was reasonably priced, less than $10. The service was very friendly. The gentleman running the show was really pleasant to interact with. The deli staff was late (we came right after they opened) however they had a good reason (freeway accident). They were also very apologetic so it's all good. The liquor store has a pretty good selection of booze, including a few cool craft beers. The sub is good but the pricing doesn't match what you really get. They up-charge quite a bit and for 17$ (with a macaroni salad the size of a quarter and a 1/4 pickle spear). I would recommend going getting a giant sub at Jersey Mikes at that price point and you get double the food. Inflation sucks and I can't say they are price gouging but if that's the best they can do price wise then I just won't go often. I used to go to physical rehab down the street from this place, and would always stop by here afterwards for some of the best sandwiches known to mankind. Always fresh, always delicious. Boar's Head meats and cheeses. This is a true hole in the wall, located inside a liquor store that you would probably never know about if it wasn't for Yelp. I'm glad that Yelp exists so that I know about this place! I've tried many of the subs and have never been disappointed. The owner and the girl who makes the subs are both very cool and provide excellent food at an excellent price. On a side note, cannot believe someone gave this place a one star review for having a sub named after a President. What has this world come to? First time at this place to get a sandwich... Lady messes up my sandwich and instead of making it right she skips making my sandwich correctly and makes two other sandwiches. Tried a sandwich from this local deli about a month ago and it was so incredibly fresh and flavorful!! I went with the Viva Severin (the menu made it really tough to decide) and I was so please with the quality and quantity of ingredients. I opted for the onion roll and even the bread was fresh, soft and delicious. I've been obsessively checking out the menu trying to narrow down my selections for today's lunch. They also serve the sandwich with an out-of-this-world pickle slice and your choice of mac or potato salad! Recently working in La Mesa and looking for a good lunch spot. Went on to Yelp and found this place. What a nice surprise! Fresh sandwiches, best quality on the meats and cheeses and everything made while you wait. Very clean as well which is always a super plus in my mind. I had the "Charger" which was roast beef (Boar's Head, of course) with cheddar cheese,lettuce, avocado and onions - as well as mayo. Heavenly! Great piles of fresh lettuce and onions. My friend had a spicy Jamacin sandwich that also looked very good. Service can be a bit slow if they are busy, but worth the wait. And, while you are waiting, check out the amazing selections of root and ginger beers - as well as sodas you've never heard of. They had what looked like a good selection of beer and wine too - unfortunately I had to go back to work so couldn't partake! No seating inside so all sandwiches are for take out. Step inside and it looks like a typical convenience store except that instead of a counter with rotating hotdogs and taquitos there's a deli making sandwiches to order. Ok, we came across this place the other day and wow! This is a new go to spot for me. The sandwiches are top notch here. I had a roast beef sandwich and I did not regret it one bit. They use boars head so I knew it was going to be good. The quality of the cheese, the meat, the bread, it all really stood out and made the sandwich even better.
