The sub is good but the pricing doesn't match what you really get. They up-charge quite a bit and for 17$ (with a macaroni salad the size of a quarter and a 1/4 pickle spear). I would recommend going getting a giant sub at Jersey Mikes at that price point and you get double the food. Inflation sucks and I can't say they are price gouging but if that's the best they can do price wise then I just won't go often. Not hating the place but it's tough to pay that much consistently. read more

Solid sandwiches. I really enjoyed the La Mesa Trolley while my boyfriend really enjoyed the Jersey Shore. Additionally, I ordered the Godfather sandwich for later (I like to think ahead). It was also really good. The potato salad that came with the sandwich was delicious as well. Each sandwich was reasonably priced, less than $10. The service was very friendly. The gentleman running the show was really pleasant to interact with. The deli staff was late (we came right after they opened) however they had a good reason (freeway accident). They were also very apologetic so it's all good. The liquor store has a pretty good selection of booze, including a few cool craft beers. First time at this place to get a sandwich... Lady messes up my sandwich and instead of making it right she skips making my sandwich correctly and makes two other sandwiches. I then asked the lady "Hey, whats up with my sandwich" i think she mumbled that i was next.. I was in there 30mins and now i had to wait 15mins more cause she decided to skip correcting her mistake... Then her and the cashier are yelling at each other in another language......... Tried a sandwich from this local deli about a month ago and it was so incredibly fresh and flavorful!! I went with the Viva Severin (the menu made it really tough to decide) and I was so please with the quality and quantity of ingredients. I opted for the onion roll and even the bread was fresh, soft and delicious. I've been obsessively checking out the menu trying to narrow down my selections for today's lunch. They also serve the sandwich with an out-of-this-world pickle slice and your choice of mac or potato salad! It's refreshing to go to a deli where not only the sandwiches are outstanding but the staff is also incredibly friendly and accommodating! Thank you Nathan and staff! This review is particularly for the Deli. Although, they do have an excellent collection of domestic and imported beers. Not to mention the liquor and the vast amounts of wines they carry. The deli right away gets kudos because they use Boars Head products form the meats to the sauces. I ordered the "Mayor" on Rye which included deluxe ham, Ovengold Turkey, American Cheese, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onions, honey mustard. We get sandwiches here a couple times a month and they are always so yummy. It's a busy place so be kind and bring cash for a tip! We split sandwiches as they are pretty big. Our normal order is either the KGB, the Viva Severin or the Jamaican Mon - always on an onion roll. The potato salad is DELISH. Again, don't forget to tip your sandwich maker! read more

Step inside and it looks like a typical convenience store except that instead of a counter with rotating hotdogs and taquitos there's a deli making sandwiches to order. The sandwiches are packed full and very filling. There's walls full of beverages to choose from, shelves stocked with snacks, and a whole bunch of grab and go compulsory items. Stop in for a Coke and sandwich and go for the side of potato salad, it's delicious! read more

Ok, we came across this place the other day and wow! This is a new go to spot for me. The sandwiches are top notch here. I had a roast beef sandwich and I did not regret it one bit. They use boars head so I knew it was going to be good. The quality of the cheese, the meat, the bread, it all really stood out and made the sandwich even better. The sandwich came with a really good pickle and I also got a side of potato salad. The potato salad is much better than others I've had. This deli is affordable, delicious and the service is great. Very disappointed order sandwich every weekend not anymore! Ordered turkey sandwich on French roll with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and bacon with 2 sides of potato salad.,.. Got macaroni salad no potato and only 1 however tasted terrible . Got burnt bacon if you could find it and tomatoes butts and sandwich lacking turkey... not happy won't be going back !!!! read more

Recently working in La Mesa and looking for a good lunch spot. Went on to Yelp and found this place. What a nice surprise! Fresh sandwiches, best quality on the meats and cheeses and everything made while you wait. Very clean as well which is always a super plus in my mind. I had the "Charger" which was roast beef (Boar's Head, of course) with cheddar cheese,lettuce, avocado and onions - as well as mayo. Heavenly! Great piles of fresh lettuce and onions. My friend had a spicy Jamacin sandwich that also looked very good. Service can be a bit slow if they are busy, but worth the wait. And, while you are waiting, check out the amazing selections of root and ginger beers - as well as sodas you've never heard of. They had what looked like a good selection of beer and wine too - unfortunately I had to go back to work so couldn't partake! No seating inside so all sandwiches are for take out. Can't wait to go back and try something else! Thanks guys for an unexpectedly fabulous lunch. read more

Joe Paraiso, the owner, is a very experienced coffee purveyor, and he's been incredibly kind to me, sharing his time and knowledge to make sure I get what I want. And, not for nothing, when I'm at Brew Coffee Spot picking up the beans I ordered online, I always have a coffee. Joe either does a great job of training his baristas, or he's REALLY good at hiring talent, or both. Seriously... his folks make my coffees, usually a cortado or a straight espresso, with a downtown San Francisco or Rome level of competence.

WARNING!!!!! Nobody knows this place better than I do so take my word for all of this. (THIRD TIME POSTING THIS SINCE OWNER DELETED THE FIRST TWO) I know my former boss will delete this post most likely so i'm going to save it to my computer and post it everyday so people will know the truth about this disgusting establishment. I am Megan Riley, former employee of Severin Liquor Deli and Wine Cellar. I have been employed there since the day they opened, I even helped set up the store. My job title was "Deli Manager"...hahah have you ever heard of a "manager" working 7 days a week 2-3 hours a day. That right there shows you that the owner, Nathan Mansour, is cheap and took advantage of a hard working college student. Two months ago, Mr. Mansour hired one of his relatives to work there as well... this kid works 4 days a week and double the hours I did! AND I'M THE "MANAGER"!! Not to mention, the owner wasn't paying taxes for having me work there.. I didn't have my food handlers card until about 3 months into it, and he was paying me cash under the table...OUCH. When i was working the environment was spotless, sanitized, and organized. When i would go home and return to my next shift in the morning, the WHOLE deli area was cluttered, filthy dishes laying around, the deli case had veggies and mayo and mustard all over it, the cutting board has never been washed. On top of all that garbage, when I would return to my shift the OWNER would leave the meat slicer completely filthy, sometimes it would have meat all over it that guarenteed had bacteria growing, and YESTERDAY when i arrived it had dried up lettuce all over it, and I got a customer as soon as I walked in and couldn't prep meat for his sandwich because of the disgusting mess my former boss left me with. needless to say, Nathan Mansour is running a phony business, a filthy business, and an unprofessional business. he screamed at me in front of a customer yesterday saying that I am rude and disrespectful I failed to look at him in his face when he told me this garbage and then screamed "YOU LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU, YOU LOOK AT YOUR BOSS WHEN HE IS TALKING TO YOU , WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE". thats the OWNER yelling at his EMPLOYEE like that. After that I couldn't take it anymore so I began to say you leave this place a filthy mess when I get here and i'm by myself so clean up your shit! and he was quick to tell me we just simply can't work together and that I'm fired. An hour later I show up with my mother to pick up my weeks pay, and my mom goes "do you enjoy yelling at little girls" and he was quick to kick her out of the store and then scream at her while she is standing outside that he wasn't yelling at me he was raising his voice, and that she did a terrible job at raising her daughter and that he wished he never hired me. On top of all of that he declined to pay me until my mother would listen to what he had to say. BULLSHIT. So I know this is a long review but I hope everyone took the time to review it, Nathan Mansour is running an awful business, a filthy deli, and is a hot head. BEWARE of the service you get here, he skimps your meat, fills you up with lettuce, and even sometimes stinky rotten meat. I usually avoid places like this because they are so horrendously expensive but this place has a deli counter and they have made OK sandwiches in the past. I stopped in last week to grab a sandwich, I noticed as I walked in the person working the register to the right had no mask on so there was violation one. I moved to the deli counter to the left and the deli gal walked up wearing a mask and gloves. I place my order and decide to quickly pay so I can take my food and leave ASAP. As I am finishing up paying I see some old guy walk in with a mask around his neck not covering his face, that's two! I then walk to the back of the store to avoid everyone. I give it a few minutes then walk back to the deli counter only to find the old guy standing there talking with the deli girl still not wearing a mask. They are about 2 feet apart separated by the counter of chips and a sheet of plexiglass that comes up to the old guys neck so ANYTHING spewing out of his uncovered pie-hole is going all over the sandwich and her food prep area! I tell the guy not to breath on my food, he claims he isn't then I decide there is NO WAY that I am going to eat that now and head to the register for a refund. The old guy is already there and I am standing more than 6 back from him but I can here him say something about "He got himself in trouble" and that "He will pay for the food" and he threw some money on the counter. Funny to pay for something you said you didn't do? As he walked out he said something about someone was being a douche and I shot back to him that yes HE was being a TOTAL douche! The sandwiches are overpriced but excellent quality due to the Boars Head name brand. The rolls are delivered fresh baked. The lady who makes the sandwiches is very friendly and does a good job. I have been eating subs from this deli for over 10 years, but no more. The owner proudly displays on their outside white board a sub dedicated to Donald Trump. We are at a crossroads in our country that will determine whether or not we hold onto our democracy. It's time to take sides, and I will never set foot in this deli again. The owner is a belligerent and rude man who subscribes to the MAGA cult. I hope others will search their consciences and do the same. I was in retail for over 50 years and it was an unspoken common sense rule to not bring politics into our businesses, thereby alienating customers. This is obviously not a smart owner. read more

Even after reading all the bad reviews I thought I would grab a quick lunch at this new store. As I walked to the deli counter the dark haired girl working totally ignored me as she read a book. Finally she shuffled over to me as if I was interrupting her private time. I asked for a tuna on wheat but they were out of tuna. I asked for chicken salad and she said she hadn't made it yet. I was glad they actually had turkey (SARCASM). The deli girl should not be working in customer service and made my experience less than a good one.
